  1. Hmm. Crappy. Obviously Blackmagic didn't invite me to the hands-on. Pretty clueless of them not to. I would have quite liked to have taken one on a shoot. I do at least know what ProRes is

  9. It has been reported that Samsung is now producing full frame camera sensor in "large quantities". It is unclear who they are making these sensors for, or if this sensor will make its way into a new Samsung body.

  10. Video oriented hands-on: Footage doesn't look too bad for a F4 lens in those lighting conditions. Pretty stable next-gen body/lens IS com. Dual Pixel AF better than C200 apparantly..

  11. Exactly. And If you do use apsc lenses for video, and then switch to photo mode for a quick snap of the action, you won't be happy. crop sensors are fine, forced switching between crop and full frame on the same body is not. It's unthinkable to shoot both photos and 4K video at the same event on this camera.

  12. Again, use the P4K with vintage lenses & it shines! Low light was amazing & I wouldn't worry too much about the sun - the choice was made to see her & blow the sun. You've gotta remember it's the brightest thing you'll ever film & there will always have to be a pay off. There's also nothing wrong with crushing blacks or blowing highlights - it's a modern malady that tries to enforce that you can't do this.

  13. Was this shot in France? Must have shot from Belgium for those wide shots. Stopped watching at 0:07 when he said "shoots 8 frames per second" - yeah, not if your subject is actually moving. AF locked at that speed. Day 2 other things that are super annoying - the top left button is *ONLY* the freaking on/off switch. That's it folks! You can't (yet) shoot anything other than SINGLE SHOT mode for silent shooting You can't (yet) shoot using EYE AF using tracking - it's single shot only FPS drops to THREE when tracking is enabled. Goodnight people. This feels rushed to be honest.

  16. Nikon Z looks the best out of the new offerings to me. I think the lenses are perfect too. The faster primes will be 2000$ or more I bet. How is it good to launch with lenses costing more than two grand? F1.8 is fast enough. More importantly it keeps the lens somewhat small. As usual it seems many lust for bragging rights rather than practicality.

  18. Just realized that F-Log footage basically just is nothing else than Rec2020 gamut with a LOG gamma - kinda similar to what HLG does. Makes it perfectly compatible with ACES colorspace. Just need to apply a curve and have filmic looking footage with some great color. Now I'm even less sure which camera to choose (BMP4K or X-T3)... BMP4K footage doesn't work in ACES at all. The red channel oversaturates way too much and I don't think any IDT (CTL) developed by Blackmagic in the future can help - unless they change their color science...

  21. I know for me right now, Im having a hard time trying to figure out the balance of being true and honest, with also receiving demo units. Getting the demo units means I get early access to stuff to help me grow my audience more on YouTube. But when I receive early access products, they expect a good review. If I make a review that maybe would hurt the company, then they don't want to work with me anymore, therefore I don't get early access meaning I don't get to build the largest audience. It's a Catch-22 I am finding. With that being said, you guys are going to love my Rudy Winston EOS R Spoof video.

  23. The Hoya PRO filters are in effect IR cut filters. I’m the same way that Firecrest, Nisi and Lee ND filters aren’t designated IR cut filters but work that way. The sensor is covered by the same low IR cut glass as every other BMD camera is. A regular ND filter will show IR pollution in the right circumstances. JB

  24. I feel like everyone keeps missing the most important fact... How is the 1080P?! I had a c100 and the 1080P was absolutely gorgeous! 1080P downsampled from 4k in camera is freaking sharp! The X-T2 and X-H1 also oversamples 4k in camera and produces sharp 1080P. The same with the GH5... Will this 1080P be same the same old Canon? "Great Color Science" but soft 1080P? It's been this way since the 5dmkii, minus the cinema line...

  26. Yeah, I find the skin tones in your recent vids with the a7 III to look really good. On the other hand, I am the type of person who finds canon skin tones to look way to red (and I often try to reduce the red that the EOSHD profile has on my a6500 as well). Personally I am probably a big fan of the Fuji Eterna skin tones and Nikon skin tones.

  27. I'm glad that in the end SB 0.64x works fine with the BMP4K. Crop 1.21 gives us almost a full frame (minus soft dark corners of the lens).

  28. @Jonesy Jones Honestly, the footage speaks volumes... I'm happy to report, thus far I am loving what I see. The battery life was as expected. I owned the original pocket, and loved the output, so this is a big step up from that in many regards. Better on camera audio support is welcomed. I want to mount this to the Ronin S... something tells me the two will be a good match. This camera has that something special. In all honesty, my girlfriend saw the footage from the new Canon Eos R and said, " I don't like it", but after reviewing the footage from the P4K immediately proclaimed how good it looked. I think even if there are a couple small omissions, the price more than compensates for anything that didn't make the cut. I like the new pocket 4k. I think it will be a great travel, and gimbal camera. It's also affordable enough and unassuming enough not to have to worry about unwanted attention. Sorry for the long winded answer... But to the point... So far it looks like we are going to get what was promised. Now the only question is when? Oh and the elephant in the room... what does this mean for GH5S owners? Given it's low resolution stills, it limits the camera to video only... And in all honesty the Pk4 looks to have it's lunch in the video department. Also with a new full frame Panasonic around the corner... ? One hell of a month!

  33. Canon's own ones might be, but there are plenty of decent third-party crop lenses. The real problem is, if you're going down that route, you may as well slap them on a mirrorless from... well, basically any of the other manufacturers and call it a day.

  34. This is on the article I posted: "Either side of the lens are two mic housings which are home to four microphones, tuned for vocal pick-up." "The BMPCC4K also has quiet audio circuits and a built in mini XLR, something that no alternative mirrorless camera has unless you purchase a costly add on device...." But yeah, very little to go on for now.

  36. This is great news - heads spinning with so many great options that are presenting themselves to us. Yep, this is exactly where i am & I like it. Think if they get the 4K working on the 5D, this might be a better option to the P4K as it will take photos too.

  37. I think the sensor hardware capabilities are very low level things and the crop just a result of that, but it does depend on what secrets Magic Lantern are able to unlock in the software. So in other words... Who knows? Wait and see. The 5D Mark III 3.5K RAW was a huge surprise and I never thought the hardware was capable of it.

  42. I've made you a handy cut out and keep guide of the lenses you'll need for the equivalent of, for example, a Zeiss Compact Prime set **. If you are looking for a 15.55555555561mm prime then I can definitely recommend Tamron's new 15.5555555556mm f2.8. It has far more mojo than Sigma's 15.55555555561mm f1.8 in my opinion. ** Yes, yes, I know the CP.2s would be used on Super35 so there is an additional multiplier to be factored in but it was only a joke anyway.

  43. I feel the forum is still a fun place. Just I need to skim (but I always slow down for yours Mattias!) a bit faster over some other posts, merely because all these mirrorless camera announcements has lead to an EXPLOSION OF POSTS. Have we ever recently seen so many major developments from so many brands in so short a time? Nikon mirrorless announced. Canon mirrorless announced. New Fujifilm camera, their best ever for video. (from a company you'd never have expected this from only a couple of years ago!) Panasonic FF rumored around the corner? BMPCC4K shipping. Kinefinity's Mavo LF ("Large Format") specs and price was revealed. RED's smartphone has shipped. All in the space of a few days! Just need to get a few more to come on and we'd be complete! What is Pentax up to, bringing out a digital Pentax 645 with decent video and at an acceptable price? Ha, if only! What about Sigma or Olympus? JVC? Ha, what if Samsung returned! That would really throw the cat among the pigeons! Arri and Sony are the biggest players I haven't mentioned yet, but Sony is meant to have either the a7Smk3 or a pro grade APS-C mirrorless coming soon. And the Arri Alexa LF could perhaps be added into my earlier list.

  44. What year is it, 2009? Shooting 1080p as a "work-around"? We have plenty of choice for full frame 4K. A7S II, A7R II, A7 III, A7R III, Z6, Z7, D850 and soon A7S III / Panasonic full frame. You buy a full frame camera to shoot full frame stills and full frame video that looks the same as the stills. It's HYBRID camera. If you want to shoot 1.8x crop, get a GH5S or a GH5. You'll have money left over for the EF Speed Booster. I really don't understand why people are making apologies for such a shit spec.

  45. I don’t care that much about ibis since the Fuji lenses have such good OIS, but it’s a shame they still split up the files in 4gb chunks. Especially considering the 400mb/s bitrate. But what a fantastic camera. The output is beautiful.

  46. To summarize. if we ignore: This big missing spec. This other big missing spec. This lack lasture spec. This omission. And a few other odds and ends. Then.... Canon made a "pretty darn good camera" which beats many others from 2015!
