  1. Thank you ,the world needs new stories and not new cameras ?

  2. And with their awful batteries they'll last... What? 50 or so minutes, assuming it doesn't overheat? And they'll still lack decent stabilization, awful Sony colors, low bit rates, and all the other features the GH5 introduced. And don't get me started on the rolling shutter I'd have to put up with for something as fast paced as wrestling or other sports! It's so weird that people always try to sell me, and other satisfied users, on FF and Sony in particular. Part of it is they don't get my production situation, which is understandable, but part of it also feels like they just can't understand that there are legitimate benefits to MFT and that sensor size really isn't that important. Wrestling events are generally 3-5 hours, with an 15 minute intermission in the middle. I NEED a camera that can shoot 90 to 120 minutes straight. I can't worry about batteries, overheating, etc. because every second I'm not recording during the action is a bad thing and creates issues in post. Sure I can work around them but why not avoid them completely if possible? I'm also constantly moving around the wrestling ring, so that stabilization and the weight of the lens and camera is a godsend. I don't want to have to use my gimbal or shoulder rig on these shoots, the simpler and lighter my set up the easier it is on my fat ass for the 3-5 hours I'm on my feet and shooting! ? Maybe I'd feel differently if I wasn't regularly just a 1 to 2 person crew. But I have way too many responsibilities and things to worry about when shooting events and these MFT cameras make my life a lot easier.

  6. Video was giving me Red flags. Just seems kinda fishy with some of these video comparisons showing one camera blowing another completely out of the water and other videos with completely opposite results. ? A7III lowlight test used Super 35 instead of FF, then used SLOG 3 for the low light test IN Super 35 Then they used improperly exposed SLOG 3(once again in Super 35 crop mode) indoors and zoomed in on the shadows. Pretty sure in 2018 everyone and their grandma knows to avoid SLOG 3 on the 8 bit Sony bodies. Okay but to be fair I knew going into this video with Armando and Potato Jet presenting that it would be loaded/unbiased in favor of Canon.

  8. Yes, SSD and SD use the same usable slot, which is annoying if you don't plan on using Cfast for anything. Maybe they'll change that in a firmware update. I was the one with Phantom power issues, but they have since (mostly) cleared up. I contacted BMD about it and they've said they haven't had any other complaints. After sending them some tests, I've been asked to send the camera back and they'll replace it within 10 days. I'm filming stuff that doesn't require in camera audio for the next week though, so I'll send it back after that. I think my camera just has some issues and it's not wide spread thing.

  11. The best interface I've ever shot with. I firmly recommend to any of you. It is virtually impossible to ignore this capture device. Several other cameras will offer you IBIS, AF and so on but no other tool matches it so far. My fav (PRO) toy : D these days! : -)

  12. Really true on the cannibalization. Give me a GH5 with MFT mount in a smaller EVA-1 body (internal NDs + XLRs) and that would be good for me (maybe another stop of useable ISO to get it to 3200 or so). Fuji could do it, since they have nothing to protect, but not looking likely in the next year or so (or maybe ever). They also have those amazing affordable cinema lenses.

  13. Somebody, I don't know who, is going to come out with a PK4 type camera in a FS5, C100 body for 3500 bucks and it is going to be game on for a lot of people. You know it will happen. I mean a real camera, ready to shoot, not one that you have to buy a bunch of stuff for it. Sure it won't have IBIS maybe but.. No reason for these too small mirrorless bodies for a somewhat dedicated video camera like the GH5, GH5s, PK4 is. Heck they could cost only 2500 bucks, why not.

  14. There isn't much options, the 3 majors brands left are seagate, WD and Toshiba. All about the same in terms of performance and reliability (check blackbaze stats on its website). So far the largest HD are in the 12-16 TB range and the price per TB doesn't lower beyond 3-4TB. We are reaching the maximim size and nothing should change until next year when WD and Seagate will introduce HAMR and MAMR. As for speed, you should get a 7200rpm but the best is not to use HD for editing, even mounted in Raid 5. Here are some comparison I made of actual price and product range

  16. Yep, a monitor is a must for many reasons. This camera can be used as it is, but most times it will need additional accessories. I will always suggest a SmallHD Focus, smallest and brightest solution. If you do not care about brightness, one of the cheap 5.5" copy cats will do.

The Hard core DNA is for 16mm and 35mm projection scopes and the ProtoDNA is for us weirdo's who love shooting with 8mm anamorphic scopes. 19. This actually look really good! I like the music too. Did you do work in post to minimize breathing compared to the previous core DNA or is breathing improved in the ProtoDNA? Is this going to replace the coreDNA? The link of your write up doesn't work.

  20. Thanks - yes tried the 750d and it looks like horrible mush compared to c100, m50 is still fairly soft in hd but better, in 4k it is close enough. Unfortunately Canon haven't offered decent hd video in any of their reasonably priced dslrs and probably never will - have been using Panasonic GH2 up til now with c100 and works better than 750d as the sharpness difference isn't so jarring. The m50 is a step closer - it is tiny though and feels a bit unbalanced in the hand with Canon 17-55mm 2.8 and adapter, the little kit lens it came with suits it better. AF works fine with Viltrox adapter, but the other issue with Canon is that for all their great AF abilities they don't have any decent fast lenses with STM and IS. Almost all my lenses are USM and so make a lot of noise when using AF and don't seem quite as responsive as the little 15-45mm kit lens

  22. This is a low light test of the Nikon Z6: It seems usable till 25600 ISO but for me 10000 or 12000 ISO is the max without post denoising, just like on Sony A7III.
    1 point
  23. So now we are getting some confirmation that the Z6 is not going to show up with many nasty surprises we are perhaps in a position to write a tally sheet of the pros and cons of the "affordable" full frame video options as currently presented. Sony A7III vs Nikon z6: Image quality/resolution/dynamic range - similar sensor means there is not a lot to choose here. Colour science/gradeability - lots of people seem to like what Nikon does here, and 10-bit-to-recorder seems an excellent option, for example, green screen shooting. 8 bit Log internal on Sony seems an advantage but Andrew's Zlog seems a work-around there. Single card vs dual card - 2 slots nice to have, but not a deal-breaker for video Auto focus - Nikon, so far, doesn't look disappointing, and demonstrations with adapted f1.4 glass are very encouraging. Eye autofocus is nice, but for video good face AF is probably where we are at. Sony strong here too, so it would be good to have some proper side-by-side tests in tough situations. Usablility - lots of votes coming on the Nikon side, Sony still not "loved" by many for ergonomics, menu systems, button layouts etc. Lens options - for Nikon shooters with a big investment in modern glass this is a no-brainer, as the adaptor seems to be very solid. Otherwise, Sony has the lead by some margin. Ironically the killer choice for budget/weight conscious shooters is the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8. Still not clear whether/when a Z mount version will be available. Still Sony glass is expensive, and F mount glass seems very useable and more available second hand. Stabilisation - does Nikon have the edge here? More stablized lenses for Sony though. EVF and back screen - (assuming this is the same as the Z7) - Nikon seems a clear winner, as Sony economised on both of these. For run-and-gun MF shooting, this may be a biggie. Stills shooting - yes I want to do this too - keeping settings for stills and video separate as the Z series do, seems to make sense. My main question is - can I ditch the DSLR for shooting action/wildlife etc. Anything else that should be added to the list?

  24. Picked one of these up as a b cam to my C100 after deciding I couldn't justify the expensive EOS-R (considering it has too many shortcomings for me). The m50 is definitely a bit sharper in hd than what the typical Canon dslr can muster, but still looks soft compared to the c100. The 4k on this little thing though looks lovely, still not quite as sharp as c100 but reasonable detail without any sharpening artifacts produces a nice image - so long as you don't move the camera - RS is bad, the crop is extreme, and of course no DPAF. As a 2nd camera for interviews, other tripod based work I think it will work quite nicely. I don't use/like gimbals but imagine this would be a great camera for that, the AF is impressive in hd. Shame they can't squeeze the wdr profile on this camera - I realise clog is saved for their premium cameras - been playing around witrh neutral profile and sharpness and contrast down, and with a little tweaking can get it to match C100. A fun little camera with a few drawbacks, as is the Canon way

  26. What's the point in comparing a non focal reducer adapter with a focal reducer adapter? The Viltrox doesn't have any flocking on the internal surfaces ( just like the early version Metabones non focal reducer adapters) but it's a pretty easy job to add some.

  27. Its refreshing to see manufacturers that aren't holding back to protect their cinema line. I can't see how Sony will not offer 10bit on the A7S3 at this point. Unless they just kill the S as some have suggested. And at this point Canon is looking a little ridiculous for having such an extreme crop in 4k on the Eos R.

  29. Everyone offers the same? There are still things that none of these full frame cameras can do that the GH5 can. But yes, cameras released nearly 2 years after the GH5 should have most, if not all, of the same features as a nearly 2 year old camera. And no FF stabilization is as good as MFT and is unlikely ever going to be. Things like DOF can be easily attained with MFT with a little effort if I need it. Given E-Mount lenses alone weigh about as much as most MFT cameras with a lens do, I'm happy with the weight difference. With any luck it'll get even better. As I said before, when I'm shooting 3-5 hour pro wrestling events I'm quite happy only having to carry a camera and lens combo that weighs 2 pounds, has excellent stabilization, doesn't have recording limits, and all the other advantages the GH5 still has 2 years after release. Better AF or not, I have no desire to use a camera and lens combo that's almost double the weight as my GH5 set up and will require repeated synching in post because it can't record longer than 30 minutes, especially if I have to stop and start recording in a match that goes longer than 30 minutes. And I'm happy that I can hand a second shooter my G85 and all they really need to do is hit record after I set it up for them and let it roll. If the GH6 doesn't continue down the same road the GH4 and GH5 have paved then maybe it'll be time to look elsewhere. But as long as they remain ahead of the curve on the features that are important to me I'll be happy.

  31. I think we are reading too much into it. As big as DPR is they have to cover their ass every which way from hell. And I doubt they have total free rein form Amazon to do what they like. They have as of late been a bit more bold on sort of knocking Canon being behind, holding back. As much as they test you are never going to please everyone. I doubt they are just kissing Canon's ass. But are not going to go out of their way to piss Canon off. And that link to here about ML and the EOS-R shows they are not sticking pins in a Voodoo Doll that has a heck of a resemblance to Andrew. ?

  32. There is a TON of old FF MF Minolta, Pentax, FD etc. lenses that are small as heck. And now there is a lot of Chinese cheap, small lenses out for the a7 bodies covering FF. So those are a way to go and stay small and light. And Sony has a few cheaper primes that are really small for FF. I have owned a Lot of 4/3, m4/3 camera bodies of all sorts, and only the newest Olympus bodies with their excellent IBIS interests me at all. But they are not so hot for video.
    1 point
  33. That's the strength of m43 and where Panasonic and Olympus are failing. They're trying to take on FF with large $2000 bodies and bigger/faster lenses that cost far more than FF when you factor equivalency - this is enthusiast territory and FF is the $2000+ standard. Stabilization and class leading video specs, an advantage m43 had for years, is no longer enough when everyone else now offers the same. Plus FF is really pushing the envelope for mirrorless AF, m43 is sorely lagging behind. Personally, with FF, I carry lighter zooms because DR is just so good with the recent Sony sensors. I use fast primes for shallow DOF stuff and with Sony I carry the a6300 as a cheap/light backup. Chris

  34. MFT will die when people cease buying MFT cameras and lenses. People will stop buying MFT when it no longer has benefits over larger sensors. I'm invested in MFT and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. I think it will continue to lead the way in video features, will continue to offer better stabilization, and will continue to improve on its weaker points, like low light and auto focus. I'm keeping an eye on full frame, of course, but even if a full frame equivalent of the GH5 came out tomorrow I have no real need to upgrade. It's just not that important to me and I don't really get why it is for everyone else.

  38. Its very informative that Canon have a relationship with a site like that and then get their knickers in a twist with them about mention of Magic Lantern. So they'll happily contribute to the creation of speculation and fake news about their own products in order to keep people on the hook but actively discourage the awareness of actual facts about enhancing ones you may already own. Honestly, them having any sort of relationship with a rumour site is a pretty sad indictment of the way things are with regard to the chicanery of the camera business. If you can't even trust the sites that are actually set up for making shit up to actually make that shit up in an unbiased way then he game has gone!

Yeah somehow the C100's seem to do well in 8bit also LoL. Doesn't seem to make any sense scientifically, but Canon must have some secret sauce they use. Damn if I know. Defies logic.

    I might get the C200

There are plugins for RawLite that make it reasonable to work with. I mainly use Resolve for C200 footage as there is more control. I tend to buy Prograde CFast cards. They just work... so why take chances? To save space I often leave the files in place and edit directly off the card. If you are working on any non 4k projects you can output excellent 2k 10bit to an external recorder. I know there is a third party external SSD adapter, but I have never used it, so cannot speak to its reliability. The C200 is an epic cinema camera. Great AF... is truly usable. Good lowlight performance, nice sounding preamps. Great battery life. You can fly it on the Ronin S, but for that I use a support vest with arm as it gets heavy. Lots of latitude with the footage and great dynamic range. Don't think you can go wrong. Fyi: can't recall ever shooting 8bit on this camera. I have other smaller cameras that can do that. If you buy the C200 shoot raw or 2k 10bit.

  47. I know that this post is more than 3 years old. But I want to thank you for the information provided here. I manage to build my first diy single focus Anamorphic adapter. I use Schneider ES cinelux 2x Anamorphic lems, 100d achromat (i don't know the strength of the diopter), and 0.45x wide adapter. It has a very soft focus at wide open (jupiter 9 85mm f2.0). Even when I stop down the edges is still very soft. What should I do to correct it? Can anyone help me? The result is the photo I took straight from the monitor.

  48. Thanks bud! I think it's hella productive to hive mind these DIY projects. Who better to play with than a community of filmmakers who thought it was a good idea to strap a projector lens onto their camera? I've got nothing against the folks selling their wares, I'm sure they will work amazingly well (and judging by the tests, they do). But for those of us who can't afford the thousands of dollars for adapters or iscoramas, a couple hundred on achromats and old wide angle adapters let's us in on the whole "being able to focus my lens" rage. So let's play people!
