  1. http://yedlin.net/ResDemo/ I'll just leave this here. Going 6k before 10-bit is the worst single thing they could do.

  2. No offense but if you need *8k* to crop and re-frame for 1080p editing you got bigger issues than resolution! ?

  3. I'm finding what might be described as "interesting" behaviour when changing aperture values. Aside from the unusually high degree of granularity (there are 66 different positions between f1.3 and f22 for example), I'm finding that there are a number of repeats within these positions. For example, there are two f1.3s, so when you have it on f1.3 then step up to the next value it is also f1.3. This is repeated at several other positions and is the same, for me at least, on both native MFT and adapted lenses. At some positions, there is no difference in exposure (so if you move from the "first" f11 to the "second" f11 it appears the same) but worryingly that is not always the case. On a Canon nifty fifty on a speedbooster for example there is a very clear exposure difference between the two f1.3 settings. The quirkiness of it having that many steps and some repeats is something I can live with if it was consistent between lenses and was only an indication foible in terms of the repeats but its neither of those things unfortunately. I have an understanding of why it is happening based on the BM protocol and messages I'm reading back from the camera over bluetooth but I have a limited range of lenses so obviously, it would be appreciated if any of you could check behaviour of a couple of lenses and see what happens with yours and I'd be particularly interested if anyone can try it with lenses with a wider aperture than f1.3 to see if there is a similar issue there.

  4. I also noticed a weird aperture behavior with the 24-105mm and the Viltrox EF-M2. I didn't notice it when I was using the lens with the latest firmware of the adapter (although it could have already been there!). Then I downgraded the firmware to get IS to work (nice find btw) and that's when I noticed it. Especially at the widest aperture, I had two different steps, showing the same F stop but different light gathering. And if I turned the dial too fast, I couldn't fully open the aperture. I had to go backward and close the aperture a bit and the turn the dial more slowly to get the lens to go wide open... Weird... I thought it was an issue with the adapter, but apparently it is also present with native mft lenses as BTM_Pix said. It would be interesting to know if it occurs with every lens controlled with electronics. It reminds me of a bug where switching lens IS on and off with the BMPCC did change the amount of light on the sensor. The screen showed the same f stop and same iso, etc. but the image would go darker... I think it changed the aperture. There was a work around, you had to turn IS off and then on, only when the camera is on. Don't even know if they fixed it and if it was metabones adapter's fault or the camera's.

  5. Sorry I can't be more helpful to your actual issue, but I will say in terms of batch renaming, I've been using 'A better finder rename' and it's pretty great. In terms of compressor vs media encoder, I personally like Media Encoder better and use it more. Again, sorry I can't more help for your real issue here, just wanted to chime in where I'm able to.

  6. And 2.8f, and no IS. Not the modern workhorse lens that everyone else has.

  7. I just tested with my nifty fifty and have the same thing. If I'm on f1.3, and try to stop down a notch, I hear the lens tick, but the image remains the same and it still says f1.3. At f.11 though, I stop down a notch and the image gets darker but it still reads f.11. This isn't the case with 24-105 though. When I get home, I'll try my Sigma 30mm 1.4 (f1.0 with viltrox) and see what happens. Interesting find, but don't see it have too much impact on daily shooting.

  8. As I say, they've recently updated it in the past few weeks to fix issues they had with Mojave so a lot of it will be related to those previous problems. I have not switched to Mojave so can't comment but I'm on High Sierra 10.13.5 and it works fine for me with the latest version installed. It even gives me a Touch Bar emulation at a cheaper price than upgrading my MBP With regard to price, it is a one off price for the regular version ($20-ish) and a subscription add on for the pro version which lets you use the iPad as a digitiser. I use it in a few different ways, depending on what I'm up to. In FCP-X I have the iPad Pro handling the interface and the MBP full screen as the picture monitor. For work, I will be editing pictures on the MBP and use the iPad Pro to view and control the FTP application so I can keep an eye on the transmission of the pictures to the agency without having to swap applications. As Duet works with any iOS device (and the one off payment covers you to use it on all the devices linked to your Apple account) then I tend to use an iPhone more than an iPad for that as it saves space and is an appropriate screen size for a smaller application. There are other similar products out there though so have a look around.

  9. This is why I returned the Viltrox and bought the Fringer too. So far the Fringer has worked great, with very good lens compatibility.

  10. I bought the Viltrox and IS (image stabilisation) is not supported. Autofocus doesn’t always work on all lenses. So I sent it back. I’m waiting for the fringer ef-fx pro to test it.

Wow, gotta try this for sure...

  12. No. It's not going to add the secret sauce of an Alexa for instance, but it's still better to have more resolution if all they are giving you is an 8bit image. Which is what we typically get on these cheaper cameras. It means I can produce a nicer 4K image in the end. Not Alexa nice, but better than using a 100% crop of a GH4.

  13. With the sharpness totally down I quite like the image of this camera. this is a not a color graded video. Sooc Visiontech profile

  14. I can't afford to shoot on big guns like Alexa, RED or Venice, so I'm never really getting the true potential of 4K from a 4K H.264/5 camera. Bring on the 8K. So long as most of these Japanese camera makers are going to continue to deliver us 8bit H.264/5 files, at least give me more resolution so I can make up the difference in post.

  15. I'm not sure I follow what you mean about buying all the options? If you are talking about the different resolution options, then if you buy the €90 Multi Rez Stock Kit then you get all of them included. Or are you talking about the overall cost when you add the controller? As even with the more expensive option (the Arturia) its about €180, which is less than a fifth of the price of another option such as the BM Mini controller. Having said that, the BM Mini controller is a very, very nice looking piece of kit. I previously couldn't justify the cost of the available ones based on how much I did it but these and other lower cost solutions have given me pause for thought and I possibly will in the near future. I'm very much in favour of anything that offers a tactile interface to applications, so I use numerous different MIDI controllers for controlling DAWs and synths and even Lightroom via the LrControl plugin. And, of course, who can forget my very own custom real time Panasonic picture profile tweaker Maybe I should revive that for Resolve ! For keyboard shortcuts for Resolve and other applications like FCP-X, Logic and Lightroom I use silicon keyboard covers like these They are about £5 each on eBay and just lift on and off when you swap applications. I also have a generic one for when I'm working as it keeps the elements out of the keyboard. The other thing I've used for editing for years is the Contour ShuttleXpress. I used to use the original one but the more compact one is enough for what I need for jog/shuttle and marking in and out points etc. I'm not a colourist so I can't speak about it with any authority or insight whatsoever but I can definitely see where the wheels and trackballs would be a big boon, analogous as they are to the controls inside the software. If you want to dip a toe in then Tangent (who make a series of lower cost hardware controllers for Resolve) have an app that can turn an android or iOS tablet into a virtual version. The full price is £80 but they do a free version which you can use for an hour a day to see if its something that works for you. I wasn't actually aware of it before myself so I think I might have a go as well. Video about it here

  16. @newfoundmass I was very reluctant to switch after being with FCP 2 to 7 and seeing the radically different UI and workflow in X but i'd highly recommend giving it a go, I used Izzy's online tutorials and worked on a 2 minute events highlight video to test it out, haven't looked back! Once you get used to the new way of working it will speed up your workflow and delivery, I edit corporate and social campaigns and with X I'm cutting, rendering and exporting almost twice as fast as before. With all the updates its now a very capable tool and the new Frame.IO integration looks like its gonna be a huge benefit in terms of client collaboration. Stick with it!

  17. Hey, hey, seems do I need your medicine?! *sigh* oh boy, take a look but on your belly button ; ) That use of the verb 'to cry' is coming from where? From the substantive already used in my previous posting? Be creative for your own sake. What didn't I clarify? Are you actually able to read anything other than your insults addressed to the other side? Because of what? Don't worry, pal, I will never quote you again without asking permission, no worries, no need to freak out... LOL Need to pay attention who has actually written it... haha You go directly to be the only one in my ignore list so far, sorry, I won't even quote you this time or I can't get rid of you. Well, I won't repeat myself. You have several posts for the subject matter from my side, pick the part suits that. Not my problem you ask to clear up something the whole world already got except you, but the quote here can still do it for you as easy as:

Magic lantern is making a lot of progress with 3K+ on the 5D mark 2! Seems what happened with the 5 year old mark III in 2017 is now happening with the 10 year old mark II... 3K announcement: https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19336.msg205638#msg205638 Initial 4K progress (10.5 frames per second): https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19336.msg208417#msg208417 Initial 5K progress (6.5 frames per second): https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19336.msg208355#msg208355 The 5D mark II has always been limited to 30fps, but there is also some progress in getting higher framerates: https://twitter.com/autoexec_bin/status/1048804509827452928 The forum user reddeercity has some builds on that thread. I am super excited about this, even spent 100 pound on a new motherboard to fix my camera. Video I made using the 3K build: Shot in 2880x1080 resolution, Graded + converted to ProRes using MLV App (https://github.com/ilia3101/MLV-App), edited in Pitivi on linuX. Lenses: Jupiter 9, Helios 44, Takumar 135mm, cosina 19-35 (for one shot) If anyone wants an MLV or DNG or something from the video I can provide.

  19. Or the Pocket 4K... They are not FF anyways. Yes, you can match with them: DOF coupled to a focal reducer and/or fast glass; low light performance too from the new generation of sensors even without adapters. Not higher resolution acquisition à la Z7 though.

  20. I've seen and enjoyed it actually. Pity they've forgotten to add 4K/60p. I had bought 1 camera unit at least : -)

  21. Hooray! After people started getting their Pocket 4K cameras we only had the Panny S1 to argue about - now we can get excited about the inevitability of 8K vs Sonys ability to quadruple the data rates and not have the camera actually melt! With Japan gearing up for the 2020 Olympics to be broadcast in 8K there is only ~20 months before an entire 8K distribution network (including something like 1000 8K cameras) must be in place, having been constructed, tested, and bug fixed. You'd be mad if you think that Japan will let themselves fail to deliver a technological feat like this while the entire world is watching, Moores law be damned. So, if we're going to have an entirely functional 8K capture, processing, distribution, and consumption network in place in less than two years for the worlds most watched event, then exactly when do you think the tech will be made possible? The day before?

if you would imagine for a moment that photography is like food, then i would contend for the rest of your life you can only eat 3 things steak, potato and beans. while you might live a long life, it would be kinda boring having the same stuff everyday. much more interesting is the idea of a smorgasbord occasionally which is what a bunch of lenses gives you

  25. None so far ! Yes, it is almost accepted first BM buyers are like beta testers. But it’s actually quite puzzling. Even though I have sympathy for this brand, it’s not professional to release a camera not finished. It reminds me of my first minutes with my RX100 V. I was only browsing menus and then I had this overheating warning almost right away during my first clip... Shocking !

  26. Well, I didn’t expect it, but at least you got the sarcasm. Go troll somewhere else. Like, wth does your 60p got to do with autofocus? Loser.
