My New Pocket4K Android App
webrunner5 and one other reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
It only has Bluetooth LE so that forces the decision Not using wifi is very beneficial battery wise though as Bluetooth LE (as its name suggests) uses very little power so can be an always on connection. The drawback of course is that there is no way to implement a wireless live feed without wifi but there is always more than one way to skin a cat as they say so watch this space .....2 points -
Some more footage testing Visiontech. I forgot my ND filter so some footage is shoot with a very high F number and some diffraction was occurring. Sigma 18-200mm. not very good lens but some shots were impossible without the zoom.2 points

We Are There... The Current Top Hybrids Are Good Enough
tomsemiterrific reacted to DBounce for a topic
I remember thinking to myself a short while ago, “The current camera so damn good, Do we really need anything better? “ It seems many in Hollywood are taking note. I recently read a article which can be found here in which they state that the new movie “The Haunting of Hannah Grace” was shot entirely on the Sony A7S2. Granted, they rigged it up pretty good. But at the heart of that rigging was a Sony A7S2. So the day has come... hell has indeed frozen over. A humble prosumer camera can be used to shoot a Hollywood feature. Now if anamorphic lenses would follow suit, we would really be in business.1 point -

I'm seriously into watching movies... but for instance I just downloaded some stuff off Youtube in 360p (it can';t be got anywhere else). Because you see, it's not the picture quality that really counts. It's good to have, but real filmmaking is about the story (and a host of other stuff that doesn't depend on resolution). That's what's unfortunate. There's this fanatical obsession over K numbers. And given that AXIOM Beta is about giving creatives more freedom, I wouldn't like to see the effort blighted by reactionary fixation on the idea of keeping up with the Joneses... or Japanese broadcasted TV.1 point -
Bluetooth LE I'm sure they will in time as, of course, if this idiot can manage it .... There are a couple of challenges involved though that they will need to work around that are too dull to go into but as I say it wont be long.1 point

Z Cam E2 will have ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FPS in 4K??

And I said above I like the look of it. But that is not what comes right out of the camera. It is a grade, and I would suspect a grade this guy could get from a lot of cameras. He has talent. That is the secret sauce, not the camera. He could make a iPhone look good. Sure it takes a camera with a decent amount of DR. How much is in that shot, hell I don't know. It is shot in 4K. Can the new Osmo Pocket look that good in his hands. I bet it could, or be so close we aren't going to be able to tell. We are Way past what a camera is now, it is the operators skill. Are certain cameras easier to get a good look, sure, but most are more than capable in the right hands. We are at a point where we suck a hell of a lot more than the cameras. We are the ones that need to get better, not the cameras. Buying a new one is hardly the answer. We can afford to buy old Cine cameras that people made stuff that knocked your socks off 5, 6 years ago or more. A person surely ought to be able to still do it if you have talent with one. But sure for the money the Z-Cam E2 looks like a hell of a good camera. So does the PK4, so does the X-T3, etc. etc. No excuses cameras out now. Time we bone up and get better at using them. That is the answer.1 point -
Let me ask you this... why do you want higher DR? For me it comes down to being able to get detail in my subject without blowing out my background. From what I have seen Z Cam might be accomplishing exactly this. And I believe their DR claims... at least from the footage I have seen, might be accurate. The desert video reminds me of what I have seen in iPhones photos with HDR enabled. The AI features are great... and I appreciate the effort. But nailing down AF will get them more mileage imo.1 point

A 400hp car should do the 0-100 at a few seconds, while a 100hp one needs 11-14(depending the weight and other things). It is not a very good example!1 point -
I seriously doubt this is the A7S-III sensor. Sony will go for new generation 12mp BSI fully stacked design using this architecture. The current 12mp sensor is an older front side illuminated design with 8 micron photosites. A next generation stacked model could be 10+ microns in size? This spec sheet does give is a good look at what Sony's latest generation sensor architecture will look like. CT1 point

I am still waiting for 4k next year for the last 5 years, oh wait I am still waiting for 1080p, because 90% of the world is still on 720p and SD. Japan and Korea are some kind of tech lab experiment that never represent the world. In fact 1080p is good enough and in a good sense for any normal viewing distance display for our human brain. Over and above that is really pushing it in terms of diminishing return. it is like moving from a 100 hp car to a 400 hp one to get .2 second better from 0 to 100, now that's for 4k, I don't even know what will 8k bring.1 point

Z Cam E2 will have ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FPS in 4K??
IronFilm reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
I don't know about holding back, but it's all about priorities, I think. Z Cam is a bleeding edge company. They make 360 cameras and are actively working on integrating AI into their cameras. Z Cam has a smaller community, and many owners at this point expect bugs and workarounds--it's the price of using bleeding edge. Blackmagic is focused on bringing cinematic imagery at a low cost: they care more about color science and integration into pro workflows than they care about high frame rates and next gen tech. Their target audience is more likely to have learned on film than Panasonic or Z Cam. The P4k is also significantly cheaper than the other cameras, the fact that it even competes spec-wise is impressive. Panasonic is orders of magnitude larger than either company, and needs to compete with the other giants (Canon, Sony, Nikon), both today and tomorrow. Their products need to have near 100% reliability, and be easy for consumers to use. A single bug could kneecap initial reactions to a product, permanently damaging their reputation. Why spend the R&D money on 4k 120 if Sony isn't, and when that money could go towards QA? Of those three companies, it seems to me that Z Cam has the most incentive to innovate with technology. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Z Cam ends up with the best specs.1 point -
To be fair you can run the Pocket4K off NPF970s as well with the £10 small rig plate and the DC cable so you can knock off a big saving with those 2 PowerEdge batteries in that cost comparison.1 point

I've never met anyone with an 8K monitor. If someone out there is salivating over the idea of trudging through the arduous process of adapting their worklow around 8K, then... well... there's one born every minute they say. I dread to think what the render times are like with 8K, but it must be a downright misery.1 point -
So was the big, original Blackmagic Ursa and that went the way of the dodo with no new sensor ever.1 point

Nikon Z allows three user settings ... 3 in stills and 3 in video. Probably best if you set the user setting in stills ... U1 for instance then setting for video on U1. When you change from stills to video in U1 you can go from P in stills to M in video ... should work ... have not tried it as I do most everything in M. U1 could be 4K 24P and U2 1080 crop.1 point

Z Cam E2 will have ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FPS in 4K??
IronFilm reacted to thebrothersthre3 for a topic
After this came out I kind of lost interest. However new updates in firmware are getting me interested again. The Z cam now supports Prores recording. The ability to shoot in H265 and 10bit H264 is awesome too. They also have unique settings not found in cameras like the GH5 to completely get rid of artificial sharpening. However the newest and most interesting firmware update is the new log profile, Zlog2. They are claiming it does 15 stops of dyanmic range in comparison with the previous, 13.5 stops in Zlog. They have uploaded test shots on their facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/zcame2/ This isn't an HDR multiple exposure thing either, which they also have in the camera WDR(which has ghosting with enough movement). Another thing is HD 240 fps. They have a pretty unique auto focus system as well, which they are still working on. If they can get that to be reliable I'll definitely be buying it. 15 stops is a big seller for me if its true.1 point -
I dont think thats a fair assessment of blackmagic. Prores is, for whatever reason, an industry standard. Blackmagic includes it because thats what standard workflows require. If blackmagic were responsible for making prores standard, then you could say they were just trying to market an inferior product. Moreover, as much as i believe that more efficient encoding is better, it is significantly easier on a processor to edit lightly compressed material. Editing 4k h265 smoothly requires hardware that many people simply dont have yet, such as the computer lab at a university i recently used. Prores was simply easier for me to work with. But for the most part, you are right. Processors seem to be a limiting factor for cameras at this point. Even "bad" codecs like low bitrate h264 can look good, if rendered with settings which are simply unattainable for real time encoding with current cameras. Its great to see sony making bigger and better sensors, but with better processors and encoders, last generation sensors could have better output.1 point

JVC LS300 $2000 new at B&H - good price

Completely agree. Personally, I think a sexier design and the help of an influencer or two would have skyrocketed this camera's success.1 point -
Given a choice I usually go wider. However, if you are shooting anamorphic with a 1.33 squeeze, you are better off using the 4K crop as 1.33x is made for 4K. 4K fits the TV better... C4K fits 2:1 smartphones better.1 point

1) perhaps but i feel you may be being a bit harsh on canon colours, alot of people go on about canon colour and try to emulate it heck half this website is about canon colour in one form or another. 2) when has movie making been accurate ? its all the look and flattery plays a big part if it didn't, ugly people like me would be actors and tom cruise would be waiting on tables some where ?1 point

This. It is truly amazing what is available. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, look at what Kendy Ty did with a t2i and a Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens.1 point
