Can't really say I agree. You don't need a 10 bit monitor to utilize 10 bit, you don't need a monitor to display 15 stops to utilize an Alexa's DR, and you don't need a 4k monitor to benefit from 4k. That said I was heavily considering the C100 but the auto focus was just not good enough for me (center only). I agree that any of these hybrid cameras are not the best A cams in regards to form factor and you're right there is no step up above an XT3. You can always use them as a b cam but lenses wouldn't be compatible across the board.

This has been said over and over but is not true. None of the BMP4K images come close. They're not even in the same realm in my opinion.

hello everyone - i would like to share some informations with you: i´ve got an isco pre36 lens. and i always had problems with these "undefined" flairs in case of straight spotlight into the lens. the isco is based on a 35 mm nikon lens (aps-c sensor). i found a way to eleminate theses "false flairs", like hans punk described it: i cut out masks with differnt innercircle sizes: from 17-30 mm (see photo) and found out that 21mm inner circle diametre is the perfect compromise between getting rid of the problem and not loosing to much light on the sensor. here is a little trick: i found out that the old arriflex-lenscap from the bajonett mount (backside of the lens) fits perfectly on the pre 36. i screwed a hole with a diametre of 21 mm in ....here is the result:

I wouldn't be too surprised if after the criticism of C5D's early tests they tightened up their game. But as the comments from even their recent tests show, they're testing cameras without really understanding the camera itself and not setting it up for getting the most out of it. They shouldn't be testing them without getting intensive input from owner ops of that particular camera first, ideally on the shoot itself. This. And this. Yup, I'd rate the CML conclusions as waaaay more useful than C5D's.

Here's a new music video I directed, shot, graded and edited recently, for the Finnish punk/thrash metal band RiESA (Loosely translates to Burden). It's in Finnish, but I find it quite interesting even if you're not well versed in Finno-ugric languages. Their new album is a concept album, depicting a protectivist, totalitarian state controlled by a single dictator, and led by fear and propaganda. This gave us a nice opportunity to play with some 1984-like imagery and I'm quite happy with the end result. We did the video in essentially two days, with one day spent building the sets (the whole thing was shot in a basement of a local office) and one day of shoot. The interrogation room was mostly lit with practicals, with fluorescent tubes on the background and some IKEA spotlights lighting the posters. Only cinema lights used were two Aputure LED panels with diffusers used as fill lights. The jail cell was lit with one overhead 300W Fresnel and a 650W fresnel right outside the door to give us some heavy volumetric light. The propaganda scene was done simply with a home theatre video projector playing a video loop I prepared beforehand. I shot the whole video using modern EF lenses but with a Cokin P Pastel filter. It's one of my favourite diffusion filters as it gives a gorgeous bloom effect on light sources without eating too much into microcontrast or fine detail. You can see this if you watch the video in 4K, some of the skin detail is pretty astounding imho. And, not to sound like a Blackmagic fanboy, but I have to say the Ursa Mini delivered in spades, again. It's a fine workhorse. Visually the biggest downside is the youtube compression, which introduces banding, even here where the original image has some added film grain. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, and if you guys have any questions about the production I'm happy to elaborate

Why? You can get all these bitrates with h.265. Anyway, how on earth anyone can compare efficiency without any info about PSNR and visual quality?

I haven't got one (and the frequency of these reports and the switch it on/switch it off/send it back response from DJI would give me serious pause) but I suspect some of the Android ones at least might be to do with having location services turned off as its part of the Bluetooth LE discovery and bonding process on Android. https://forum.dji.com/thread-158542-1-1.html My guess with the iOS ones would be that if you go into Bluetooth settings in the phone and choose to delete/forget the bonding with the gimbal and re-bond then creating the new association would restore functionality.

True. I remember reading comments saying that they aren't shooting in the recommended ISOs for some cameras. There are many such comments and maby of them merely state what the manufacturers have recommended. Which seems both fair and reasonable.

More manual controls is a really nice thing to have, it speeds up usage of the camera and provides more certainty of the settings. Ditto having a top LCD, it is really nice to see all that info at a glance. One of the top things I prefer about using my girlfriend's Nikon D90 (even though it is a much worse sensor) with its "semi pro" body vs my consumer like D5200 when doing some casual photography. Certainly if I was a serious photographer then I'd be looking for those little things which make a big impact on the shooting experience such as a top info display like most semi pro and pro bodies have.

Goofy?? I think you mean "retro"? Maybe to an actual retro dinosaur from that generation who knew the real thing then it appears "goofy"?? I have only recently paid more attention to Fuji, and only very recently took a serious look at them. And I found it pretty easy to get a handle on their range of models and the options (Wikipedia + B&H made it easy to get a quick overview of them!). And now I'm feeling like I might buy soon a Fujifilm X-A3 (or perhaps the older X-A2 if I find an extreme bargain for one on eBay. It was either that or a NEX-3N etc as a "drinking camera", but then I got sucked in by the temptation of Fujifilm).

I remember when you where saying that Nikon first gen would never compete against Sony third gen. You know what the Z6 is better than the A73 Sony MILC, better viewfinder, rear screen, ergonomic, 10 bit, construction weather sealing, 10 bit etc. The only thing it looses is Continous autofocus in.............. photo and not video. So what I expect is at least 1 or 2 firmware update for continuous autofocus to get it better. That does not mean that its photo autofocus is bad, it is just not at the same level than the Sony in Continous autofocus. I can't understand people thinking, Sony sensor division is number one in the world, why would they handicap their reputation to protect 13% Milc Dslr market. They would alienate 90% of their own customer.

Best bet with all issues you have is to just call / email BMD. Going through my 2nd RMA with them and they are very helpful. First was for a bad battery door, this one is for the power port becoming faulty. They troubleshoot with you if you call them up and if they can't find a fix they'll ask you to send in your camera and sort it out.

I don't really understand it either. It's probably a combination of many things. The way they market their products, concentrating on high profile bloggers and youtubers instead of "real" photographers. Their products are great and for a long time they were the only manufacturer offering small, full frame, mirrorless bodies. Not counting Leica. They concentrated on the big things like full frame and IBIS, ignoring little things like the viewfinder or weather sealing. I guess some users thought that this, combined with the very spec heavy marketing, somehow made their product and thus them, superior. There is probably also some fear. Fear, that Canon and Nikon enter "their" market and that they are no longer unique. As we all know that happened. And quite a few users, which still had their old lenses, did switch back. When I had my rendezvous with the A7IIII I joined some Sony groups on facebook. To be honest, I was quite shocked at what was said there. There wasn't much talk about pictures or even technical details helping you to get better pictures. It felt like 50% of all content was mocking Canon and Nikon. of course that's not all Sony shooters. Not all are on the internet, not all are hateful and not all are trolls. Some photographers I know use Sony and non of them is even close to what you find on the internet. So somehow the internet makes angry trolls out of Sony users ?

The article date is in the leftmost column. I think that they often use old test numbers (e.g. on the Fuji page, they include existing numbers from Sony for comparison, rather than re-test the Sony). I didn't find any Sony cameras where they claimed 14 stops, but I would not be surprised if they did on some very old articles. On this article (https://***URL not allowed***/lab-review-sony-a5100-video-dynamic-range-power/) from 2014, they mention a lot of changes to their testing in various updates. The a5100 was "updated" from 13 to 10.5 stops. If you find any, I'll add them to the list anyway. At the bottom of this 2014 article (https://***URL not allowed***/dynamic-range-sony-a7s-vs-arri-amira-canon-c300-5d-mark-iii-1dc-panasonic-gh4/) it says: "Note: We have at one point in 2014 updated our dynamic range evaluation scale to better represent usable dynamic range among all tested cameras. This does not affect the relation of usable dynamic range between cameras." So I would be be cautious comparing numbers from pre-2014 with modern numbers.

I could help you understand it, but I am guessing it would be better if you simply did a Google search of atleast 10+ random test results of Cinema5d doing dynamic range tests. It could include any and every camera you can think of. Check the history of the results over a few years and all your doubts will be answered. Your defence of them is either ernest and genuine ignorance or something much worse. Either ways, only you can answer your own doubts. Anything else would be an exercise in futility.

It’s official... Everyday Dad ditches Sony A7III. ?? Not that it’s important, but I find his reviews entertaining. Can’t wait until Nikon releases firmware updates to fix stills AFC and add 10 bit internal recording... which they said would happen once CF-Express is available.

That messed up test was done by the EBU. Almost nothing they did over there made any sense.

I had the original 1.33X (the big one) and on my Sony A7S (+2) it worked well with pretty much any 50mm I threw it on. I had to close down though to at least f2.8 or f4 to get any workable sharpness. Great adapter for easy of use. I shot mostly with a DSO which is a Helios 44-2 and worked perfectly

No all those knobs are stupid just like that stupid Nikon body was, can't remember the name. Those days are gone and the knobs are not needed at all. Just like the stupid top LCD is a waste of time now. Can't even see the damn thing on a tripod, just stupid. A Fing gimmick. Stupid like the dumb ass off and on switch on the EOS-R. Waste of precious space. Fuji is the Subaru of cameras. Goofy design. They should have bought Saab. Even goofier. Is that a word? Reto stuff is shit. Times move on. Oh look a Vinyl record!
