  2. Yeah I just got my Apple XS and I am blown away farting around the house, the weather here just sucks, I am amazed as to how much better it is than the iPhone X I traded in to get it. I haven't done anything yet with the new Filmic Pro. I have it all, not used it yet. I just got my Moment Anamorphic in the mail today. So with the Moment Tele lens I already have, and the Stedicam Volt I ought to be in pretty good shape. Probably going to need a battery solution and a mike solution also. Right now It is the only camera I even own. I sold all my camera gear, lenses and all to get my Dually truck up and running right. Throwing about 4000 dollars into it. Moving south, going to the Myrtle Beach area in South Carolina first. Not sure where I will end up. Kind of exciting to be honest, and scary a bit also. Probably happen the first of the year.

  5. So I came across this test comparing the Blackmagic Designs P4k, Z Cam E2 and the Panasonic GH5S. In the video the reviewer tries to match all three cameras in post. I think you will find the result to be interesting. I also believe that this test and others I have seen... along with my own personal experience would seem to suggest that color science is in fact a thing. What are your thoughts and experiences regarding matching cameras? Do you call BS on color science, or are those that claim it doesn't matter when dealing with raw misguided?

  6. This is a warning that many of you may already heed. My experience: In the past I've learned to be wary of Amazon vendors. Some will sell international versions of cameras that are not supported in the US, for example. Last summer my wife and I purchased two Samsung Gear Fit2 watches. Mine stopped working the first weekend in November. I sent it in. Samsung responded today that they cannot fix the watch because it is an international model and will need to be shipped to Italy for repair. This week I thought of purchasing a second X-T3 from Amazon rather than from B and H. I'm glad I didn't make that mistake.

  8. The real problem with IoT devices is internet security. This happened while I was in an internet protocols class and made for some good discussion: https://www.techtimes.com/articles/183339/20161024/massive-dyn-ddos-attack-experts-blame-smart-fridges-dvrs-and-other-iot-devices-why-your-internet-went-down.htm How good is the security on your coffee machine? Making coffee one day, being leveraged to attack Twitter tomorrow, and providing a backdoor into your home network the day after. It's worth being wary of cheap, internet-enabled devices with little to no security.

  9. I didn't wanted to say it. I'm sure once they have the supply chain in control they'll try a second time, improving the mistakes and maybe getting rid of the holographic screen to reduce the price. The new update with the XR is simply unbelievable. I wish I had it for the video I recorded for my work. We're three now getting rid of our big heavy stuff counting with @webrunner5 , 2019 trend??? Just coffee with my dripping coffee machine, on-off after five minutes and some lights that change the temperature and dim to let know my children that it's time to relax and get ready to go to bed. No smart speakers eavesdropping all conversations, appart from Siri in the mobile of course, but that now is unavoidable.

  11. You need to contact Amazon since you were not shipped the correct item. Amazon backs that guarantee, I've exchanged a lens that wasn't a US version and they took care of it promptly. Did you register the serial # after you bought it, I've done that with stuff bought outside the US and got a warning about my address not matching place of origin. Good luck. Chris

  12. Just saw that Blackmagic has uploaded tutorials. The grading tut is linked above, but I found their intro video to be far more comprehensive than any other I've watched so far. If you're new to Resolve, this is where to start. There are a lot of clever tools and time savers that nobody else talks about. As an editor its far more powerful and well sorted than I first thought. I get all of this is in the manual, but I'm a visual learner and things like the edit overlay and how you can choose where your clip is inserted into the timeline is much easier to grasp when you see it in action. Highly recommended. Chris

  14. And failed miserably with the Hydrogen. To be fair to RED, their first few cinema cameras were also about disrupting the market than actually having a completely usable profuct. Until the iPhone X, all iPhone photo and video was grossly overrated. This one though (and more importantly with the Filmic Pro App) is pretty stellar. It has a very similar sensor to the last 3 generations of the Samsung S and Note series (from the S7). Which means that this sensor is similar to the 1/2.3" sensor on the DJI series (which has about 12.5 stops of dynamic range, even without HDR with dual exposure). Plus this has much faster autofocus (helping with time at hand for HDR to combine information from more frames). The FilmicPro V2 had shown that this type of sensor (with a completely open API, something Samsung is not famous for), can easily bypass 12 stops under the right algorithms. This hints that with the next generation sensors (and may be 10-bit 4-2-0 video), smartphone can easily reach 13 stops of video dynamic range. I am also planning to sell the last of my filmmaking gear and move to smartphones. Hopefully 2019 has great news for filmmakers. I wouldn't use AI to do things. Smart IoT profucts are best avoided.

  15. Fair points. I think that detail and sharpness are actually matters of taste and I like the image I'm getting out of my GH5 precisely because it doesn't have that digital sharpness that looks overdone to my eye. The look I'm getting looks more like film (to my un-refined eyes) and had a real timeless quality to it that I like. Of course I'm shooting with the settings all tweaked for this result. Perhaps the most important thing is knowing what you value and knowing what kind of image you like. All these cameras have tonnes of examples around so it's not hard to understand what they're all capable of.

Well probably a better way to die than a drive by shooting like how most of them seem to bite the dust. But that does help out the newcomers though. More room. ?

  17. I had the G85 for a while...even took it on a 1.5 months road trip in Europe along with my RX100 V. I couldnt disagree more about claiming you need to go much higher than $1000 to beat the G85..If you care about best 4k video IQ, the A6300 will easily beat the G85 I have been shooting Sony after I moved from a Pentax DSLR but have also played with Canon 5D IV, Nikon P900, etc...all sorts of cameras . Honestly, the G85 never made my happy IQ wise. The 4k video just never had the detail, impact I saw from the A6300 I had before buying the G85. The reason I sold the A6300 is because I only wanted a one camera solution for behind the scene videos of my photoshoots that could also work as a travel camera with more flexibility and better IQ than my rx100 V. Well, the G85 surely has better IBIS than the A6300 (which has non) and the A6500 but is not perfect specially with wider lenses. The problem is...the IQ just let me down. Not only lacking in detail but also any time you push the ISO it will get grainy. At 3200 the difference to the A6500 is clearly noticeable. At 6400 is BIG and at 12800 is laughable really (the same goes for the G9). Sure there are things I wish the 6500 had from the G85...namely a bigger body to have more controls (but this is a complicated matter since there are many that prefer an even smaller body so its a no win situation for Sony). Better IBIS would be nice but I figured that I am better of with a Gimbal instead either way. But when it comes to IQ...this is a no contest and that is what counts to me the most, not to mention the video AF of the Panasonic is a disaster compared to the fantastic one from the A6500. So I sold the G85 and bought an A6500 and couldnt be happier with the 4k video quality I get now. Sure if it would do 4k60p that would be even better so that is the main reason I would upgrade but not at a bank breaking price since my main camera is an A7R3. Regards

    Lenses

Glad you like it! I paid ~50 $ (that's right, fifty USD) for the lens itself, 24$ for the helicoid and 8$ for macro tubes. I think it's a really good deal, isn't it? ( : Haha, I wish! These things are really hard to get in Poland, to be honest. If I wanted to soften the image a little, I think I'd use an actual stocking instead. ? Thanks!

    Help me record a rap

All you have to do is rent some expensive ass car, and find some big Assed Hoe's, wear a bunch of gold shit, and you are in business. All sounds the same, so the sound and lyrics part doesn't really matter. People are only looking at the Car and the Hoe's anyways. ?

  22. I prefer intermediate codec to proxy workflow myself. Never had any problems using CineForm. Of course transcode is the pain in that workflow, but done and dusted at the start of the process, and surely less extra procedures than proxy anyway? Of course proxy has its advantages, I just prefer inters.

No idea how deep you want to get in the game? But I would consider to at least stick with one discipline. If you will try to master rap, beatmaking, producing, Puhhh. See you at the other end, unless you want to spend the next 5 years in the closet. I would suggest keep it simple. get beats from the internet, contact people ask them for beats. Once you have recorded over it. Get someone to master the stuff. And/or keep it fun trashy and simpler give it some "live recoding" feel and fuck HiFi dont do drugs and gang stuff ?.

  25. I always encourage proxy editing simply because there's less processing stress on the computer. The less the computer has to work the less likely it is to crash or lag. At least that's my reasoning. Doing native format editing is okay for really short form projects, but even then I tend to go the proxy route simply because it allows the editing GUI to function more cleanly. FCP was always breezy with ProRes, but I'm not on FCP at the moment, so...

  27. Alright, I need to rant. Slightly tongue in cheek so apologies in advance to toes I might be stepping on. Ok, who with any kind of self respect uses a camera that has “FULL FRAME” written on the outside? Yes let’s use a somewhat problematic term and paint it on the outside of the camera together with BIONZ INSIDE or whatever else crap is on there. I think there’s a f****g “4K” sticker on there too. These labels, besides being reminiscent of labels on cheap hifi from the 90’s, is designed to re-assure the insecure gadget consumer that they indeed bought the FULL FRAME camera. That’s how I view these Sony-trolls that pester forums online. And no, users of Canon or Nikon or Pentax et c are not as aggressive. Many Canon/Nikon users I know would never even write on these places. They don’t care about tech. Sony is exciting. Sony is FRESH NEW TECH. Prepare to get excited! Sony of course know the buyers of their products and they know which buyers they target. Hence the labels, hence the heavy focus on specifications that look great on paper while ignoring ergonomics, colour, durability and so on. The targeted consumer is a male tech geek. These nerds are typically, in my experience, incredibly entitled to the TRUTH. Which makes them entitled and arrogant. They know they have God, sorry I mean paper-specs, on their side. It’s the same dudes that were insufferable know it alls in college. Yet these dudes don’t understand why most successful photographers are using other brands. So there’s the insecurity again. Better read over my FULL FRAME sticker ten times, calm myself with the 4K label, and then go online and write about all other cameras being shit. I can’t imagine anything less attractive than a man-boy who feels good about themselves by affirming themselves with the latest teddybear, sorry I mean spec. I can’t imagine anything less hot than a man-boy who instead of gifting a beautiful photograph or video to the world, goes online to preach about the importance of AF speed. I struggle to understand what a gigantic turn off it is to relate to camera brands as if they were football clubs. I fail to comprehend the sexiness of going online to shout “mine is faster than yours” as if six year old boys. I would never ever, even if somebody paid me two grand, be seen with an A7. Someone might spot the “FULL FRAME” and with that, the writing is quite literally on the wall what kind of man I am. PS. Before you hang me please understand that this was written with intention of humour and not without cheerful self-deprecation. Have a nice day.

  29. Thanks @BTM_Pix! I now have CineLike D on my GX85! Would it be possible to unlock or add the ability to shoot in the 4:3 aspect ratio in 24p 4K? The camera only allows 16:9. I can shoot video in 4:3 using the 4K Burst (S/S) mode, but that's 30p. I'd like to use my 2X anamorphic attachment using the 4:3 aspect ratio.

  30. Hmm, that could have been shot on just about anything out today. Not impressed. At least not with That video. But if you are into FF video, using a Cine body, it is for sure the cheapest way to do it. But the output looks nice, but nearly all the newer stuff looks good with skill now. It is not going to be long before the days of 50,000 dollar Arri's are a thing of the past. The gap is closing at a alarming rate if you are the one building the high end stuff. The cost to put any of these new mirrorless cameras in a Cine style box can't be 1000 bucks more to do. Most all of them have a big ass heat sink and a fan in them, and 1 1/2" of it is the electronics, and 1" for the sensor. Look at the new Sony Venice with the detachable front to it.
