  1. Incredibly, they've backtracked on that backtrack now and say there have been sightings. This is my idea of what is causing the confusion for the copper making the statements

  2. Just saw that Blackmagic has uploaded tutorials. The grading tut is linked above, but I found their intro video to be far more comprehensive than any other I've watched so far. If you're new to Resolve, this is where to start. There are a lot of clever tools and time savers that nobody else talks about. As an editor its far more powerful and well sorted than I first thought. I get all of this is in the manual, but I'm a visual learner and things like the edit overlay and how you can choose where your clip is inserted into the timeline is much easier to grasp when you see it in action. Highly recommended. Chris

  3. @matthere That's the plan, I prefer video tutorials myself. As soon as I can, I will do that. I will be working over the holidays; currently enmeshed in site coding at the moment (server side back end that is a first for me). At its most simple, GHa is summarized as: 1) Applying Main, Soft or Linear 2) Setting Luminance (to conform to cinema luminance, outlined on the waveform guide) Send me an email with a few tiff/dpx stills; I can do example grades with them and walk you through them

  4. So far so good, after a couple weeks its becoming very intuitive - almost as fast as FCPx with better audio editing tools. I'm focusing on my three needs -- audio production, grading and most of all editing. I'm really liking just about everything about it. Its replacing FCPx & an older version of Protools, or Premiere and Audition depending on the project. Its really well sorted on just about all fronts, if you see the logic behind it, it really makes sense. That's why I like the BM video so much, they show a lot of really great features that I hadn't discovered in other overview videos I've gone through in the last few weeks. What seemed like a really steep learning curve is actually no worse than any other NLE I've worked with, it just has its own process and its actually pretty easy to grasp once you see the basics. And its so easy to move between editing, audio production and grading, I love just clicking on the icons on the bottom and bouncing between media, edit, color and audio. It took awhile to wrap my head around nodes and the ways to link them, how to use them and so on, now it makes perfect sense. I just have to figure out how to get it to show the estimated file size when exporting a finished edit, so I can adjust the bitrate to suit file size limitations like Facebook uploads without waiting for the finished product. Most of the time its not an issue, but I was doing 1-hour versions of a Yule Log project and getting the file size correct took a few tries, at about 4 hours each. Then there was the 8-hour version ( lots of looping) that took 22 hours to export. And it took 4 tries to get the bitrate right and it froze on me a couple of times. Grrr.... But I think the project just overtaxed my ram or video card. On shorter pieces, like 30 sec to 6 min its been fantastic, and really fast from start to finish. And that manual, aye. Seems like a good chunk is Fusion and that one is way beyond most of my needs. I'm not a motion graphics person, so I'm all about the templates. But I do need to learn to animate titles so after getting comfortable with grading, audio and editing I will start work with Fusion basics. The above is a long winded way of saying no regrets about jumping in and making the switch. I really like the all-in-one solution. I tried v12 and didn't like it, but v15 is so much better. I'm now producing photo and video pieces for VISIT FLORIDA and Resolve is going to play a big part in what I do going forward. Eventually a Pocket 4k will too, I shoot a lot of sunrise/sunset stuff so raw will be a welcome addition sometime early next year. Every day I spend 30 minutes or so on a tutorial to sharpen my skills. Thanks for all the help and resources. I check this thread almost daily to see if anyone posts anything new. Cheers Chris

  5. I'll definitely take it into a centre when I'm back home. Good thing I live in Korea, I suppose... I'll see if they can sort things out. Thanks for the help, folks.

  6. I read also this comment elsewhere about the Z Cam E2 and this particular test video demonstration.

  7. This is a good review although I think (like a lot of the reviews) it sort of misses the point. Most of the 'reviewers' are serious photo and video enthusiasts and I would 100% agree that if you are looking at it from the perspective of a pro/enthusiast tool it is fiddly and frustrating. Half the more 'pro' features only sort of work and usually come with with some sort of gotcha. 4k 60 loses facial recognition and tracking and cant be downloaded to a smartphone, histograms and zebras arent much use if you cant do a lot with exposure, raw stills/panos only work with the smartphone attached (unless you dont switch modes) and cant be downloaded to your smartphone. Etc, etc.... But this product seems firmly aimed at smartphone users who want to take their photos/videos up a notch or two with the minimum of hassle or effort. And this it does really well and is a lot of 'fun' to use. My just turned 5 year old son absolutely loves it - so does my GF... And the quality is really impressive, as is the auto focus (following the update). As an example here is a jpeg (you can do raw) pano.... And here is a 1:1 zoom (1920 x 1080) of the red box area. Generally speaking, lots of detail and not much noise. How does DJI do it? Well it takes advantage of the fact that the camera is on a gimbal to shoot at a very slow shutter speed - choosing 1/10th of a second (resulting in a relatively low iso of 400) - for the pano shots.

  8. The internal mikes on a C100 mk II are more for scratch audio than full blown audio recording. I am not surprised they are not so hot for recording on in front of a stage. Surely the Rode is much better.

  9. This is a warning that many of you may already heed. My experience: In the past I've learned to be wary of Amazon vendors. Some will sell international versions of cameras that are not supported in the US, for example. Last summer my wife and I purchased two Samsung Gear Fit2 watches. Mine stopped working the first weekend in November. I sent it in. Samsung responded today that they cannot fix the watch because it is an international model and will need to be shipped to Italy for repair. This week I thought of purchasing a second X-T3 from Amazon rather than from B and H. I'm glad I didn't make that mistake.

  10. I see your big heavy stuff and I raise it with an excessively overprocessed image in the haste of novelty with my then new XR and a not so much so but still toning it down hotdog portrait. I guess I was going overboard with filters and sliders, I'm so much more calm down now.

  11. I took these today with my Apple XS. First one is a photo, no extra lens, second one is a screen grab from a 4K 24p video with a Moment Tele lens attached. Both when clicked open have pretty amazing sharpness, and the colors are spot on both, and they are right ooc, no editing. Pretty amazing stuff from a phone. The gap is shrinking that is for sure. And the 3rd shot is also a frame grab from the same little short I shot and it has amazing clarity on the street signs on the bottom left corner. This Video Smart HDR is pretty damn impressive. And these are all handheld to boot. And these we just using the iPhone photo, video app, not Filmic Pro. Haven't even tried it yet with the new update.

  12. Ergonomics/battery consumption/various video features/high iso performance and so many others, are hot topics for years, and suddenly a sensor smaller than my finger nail, on a device slimmer than my finger are enough for pro's to earn their bread? Even the S9+ performance is laughable against some of my older cameras, but we bought it exactly for that to have one of the best imaging performance on Android land. Do not know what "Brawley us" mean.

  14. You can say "4K 7 units + 1080p 5 units" or "7x 4K units + 5x 1080p units"... Does it make any difference for real? ; -) “When you believe in the power of doubt instead of the power of God, you much see the works of doubt and least see the works of God” ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah : -P

  17. Yeah I just got my Apple XS and I am blown away farting around the house, the weather here just sucks, I am amazed as to how much better it is than the iPhone X I traded in to get it. I haven't done anything yet with the new Filmic Pro. I have it all, not used it yet. I just got my Moment Anamorphic in the mail today. So with the Moment Tele lens I already have, and the Stedicam Volt I ought to be in pretty good shape. Probably going to need a battery solution and a mike solution also. Right now It is the only camera I even own. I sold all my camera gear, lenses and all to get my Dually truck up and running right. Throwing about 4000 dollars into it. Moving south, going to the Myrtle Beach area in South Carolina first. Not sure where I will end up. Kind of exciting to be honest, and scary a bit also. Probably happen the first of the year.

8K is still 4 years out

If I had to guess, I’d say at least 75% of the people that frequent this site would be better off with good 1080p than 4K and the idea of shooting 8K for interviews and weddings sounds like total and laughable overkill to me, unless needed for VFX. I get the idea of shooting 4K for clean 1080p but I’d rather watch a good story in dirty 1080p than a bad one in clean, downscaled 4K. I don’t know about you guys but I can’t say I’ve ever seen any of Nyquist’s films but I imagine they’re pretty boring.

  19. I am using G80 for like half a year or more for everything including paid work: https://vimeo.com/martinmatej And I still love it! I am handheld kind of guy and the ibis works super well. I also use it with viltrox EF-M2 adapter speedbooster. I had a problem with stabilization on already stabilized lens when the switch on the lens disables even the ibis in G80 or when I left the stabilization switch on canon 70 - 300 4 - 5.6 on the camera freezes after few seconds of filming and then I have to detach the adapter and restart the camera. But when I use it with sigma 17 - 50 2.8 Ef mount version with no stabilization on the lens just stabilization in G80 is on it works perfect. I also had some problems with that adapter and vintage glass without electric contacts so be aware. But all in all the G80 was and still is a great camera that I bought second hand for like 500 USD. If you want 4K 60p you could go for second hand panasonic G9 which costs somewhere between G80 and GH5.

  20. It’s official... Everyday Dad ditches Sony A7III. ?? Not that it’s important, but I find his reviews entertaining. Can’t wait until Nikon releases firmware updates to fix stills AFC and add 10 bit internal recording... which they said would happen once CF-Express is available.

  21. I was thinking more of the MF big pixel CCD backs. The output was awesome to me.

  22. If someone wants a CCD on the cheap (other than the D16) then you can pick up a Sony PMW-F23 for next to nothing! (I've heard of them recently going for sub $1K) Eh, I don't miss my Nikon D50
