Sweet!!! Get yourself the SMC Pentax K 50mm 1.4 to go with it... a nice lens as well. Yeah, I shot that wide open at f/2. I think you’re probably right on both accounts. He was moving and I added zero sharpening. ML Raw doesn’t have any Sharpening and I forgot to add some default. The one thing I do miss is the Midtone Detail function in Resolve which adds a little crunch to skin and takes away that smoothness but for a wide open, fast Nikkor ai-s lens, I was surprised by how sharp it is. I’m in the process of putting together a teaser for my film. So stay tuned for a moving image.4 points -
I just finished my first shoot where I used the z6 for all the video shooting. Was a bit painful to shoot (z6+14-24f2.8+ronin-s), but a total joy to grade. The house was pretty easy to shoot though, nowhere near the dynamic range of some properties I shoot, it'll be interesting to see how it fares with them. The ronin-s is miles better than the crane 2 for me. virtually no jitter even with the humongous cam and lens combo. Good job too because the rolling shutter makes warp stabiliser a bit hit and miss. I know some people have complained about the slomo, but I think its better than the gh5's. I spent the first few weeks telling my partner I was going to sell it, but just like the d5500, I'm loving the image. Foibles: flicker from lights. I assume this is to do with the slow readout too. Never had this issue with GH5. Its fine if I leave the shutter on 1/100 or 1/50th, but problematic if I want to use an auto mode. I noticed some flicker on manual with auto iso. Have no idea why that should happen. I know people dont post there own work a lot on here, I think more people should.4 points

Finally got my hands on a Canon V10X15 15-150 c-mount zoom lens for just $20. I shot this very quick test on the bmpcc (shot wide open) and I love it so far. The lens is pretty big so I'm using rails and the SmallRig lens support. I like the zoom range--10x is the same range as my beloved DVX100 (though the FOV is different). It has nice round bokeh at 2.8 that doesn't have those odd "dips" as the smaller range c-mount zooms I've had (V6X17 and similar Fuji lenses I've had).4 points -
That is a really nice shot.. even working in the landscape photographers S-curve from the waterline into it and of course, ML makes the image quality look effortless! Maybe you can process the footage in Resolve and get a LogC output.. Do they give you the Colour Space Transform OFX plugin in the free version? If so, you could pull everything into the timeline, set whatever RAW settings on each shot you wanted, then in the Colour page, go to the Timeline node editor (instead of the Clip one) and using the transform plugin convert the shots to LogC before exporting all the shots as separate files? If you output as a 12-bit codec (I don't think there are 14-bit codec options but maybe there are?) then you shouldn't lose too much colour info in the conversion. I know that LogC can be quite flat as it's designed to hold a lot of stops of DR, so higher bit depths are preferred. The only question in that workflow is what colour space to transform it from, because Canon RAW isn't a colour space in that list. You seem to be pretty locked-on to the look you're going for, so maybe just cycle through the list and see what gets you closest? I've graded ML RAW footage in Resolve and couldn't find any definitive answer on what to use, but there were a few options that looked about right. In terms of having 'skillz', if someone can get the look they're after from any NLE with only a couple of changes, those are skills indeed! Edit: just worked out CST means Colour Space Transform lol. Sounds like you're on the path already2 points

Haha, is this a typo? Image video about a company, dadida?!? Like: "Our company does this and that, nice B-Roll, while someone talks over it, cut back to the guy talking, dramatic music after he makes a good point and so on... Very good point! It seems (on my cam) that pans up and down are smoother. Maybe right to left panning might be better. Also one could turn the camera upside down. Or shoot 4k portrait and crop the picture in post landscape :D . It's not like I am wip panning like a crazy fool, just a tat to fast for the codec to catch up, damn. Thanks, It might be just good enough that they will hire me again one day. On the clip there is writing on the wall and that is just fairly jumpy, that's were I can notice it the most. Will definetly check the Video and see what I can do.2 points

Some camera geek talk why i still like the 6dmkii in 2019
Rinad Amir and one other reacted to Adam Kuźniar for a topic
Ehh. For me the issue with Canon cameras isn't what they are, it's what they could've been. I mean how is it that 6D2 has the exact same image quality as an entry-level SL2 which has the same image quality as the top-of-the-line 5D4? I'm not even talking IBIS, 4K, 1080p slowmo, all that jazz. I'm talking sharpness and IQ worse than a smartphone camera.. I still recommend the SL2 or 6D2 for people who couldn't care less about that because in terms of ease of use and reliability, Canon cameras are way up there but I'll never support releasing 5 year old products for price of a current one.2 points -
Z Cam E2 will have ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FPS in 4K??
KnightsFan and one other reacted to IronFilm for a topic
It is EXTREMELY RARE to even have a global sensor cinema 4K camera, in fact what notable ones exist.... only the Sony F55 (VERY expensive!) and the flawed BMPC4K So if someone brings out a low low priced Global Shutter 4K cinema camera then I'm perfectly ok if it is a compromise or there, such as a S16 sensor (merely the same as my BMPCC has). Although honestly I wish the rabid global shutter internet deskjockey fanboys had never managed to convince Z Cam in the first instance that a global shutter camera is a worthwhile project, as I'd have rather Z Cam had directed their limited R&D elsewhere. Arguably you can use the Z Cam straight out of the box (not counting media or lens, which most cameras don't come with), assuming you have a smartphone (as nearly everyone does).2 points -

webrunner5 reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
Totally agree. I'd rather see the E2 as a polished product before they announce a GS version. But hey, maybe the industrial market will snatch them up? True. But... last weekend I went back to some of my REALLY old projects. (The .wmv files no longer play audio in VLC, so I wanted to re-export in a modern codec. Success, btw) They were shot on an old photo camera. 640 x 480, 15 fps. But it was a CCD with intraframe mjpeg in 422! The motion was day and night compared to modern cameras. Really makes me want a GS camera.1 point -
Yeah that’s actually what’s interesting about the SMC “K” versions... they’re the same lenses as the Takumars but in a K mount and they didn’t use Thorium glass, so the glass won’t yellow. The 28mm f/2 and your Takumar should match nicely. Two legendary lenses. If you pick up the Tak 85mm 1.8 or 1.9 or the 105mm... you’ll have a nice little set. The Fotodiox Pro M42 to EF adapters are really solid. So you can stack on your Viltrox.1 point

Yeah will post some pics and try to create a vid using it. Just beating around the bush which cheap adaptor should I buy for m43 & sony. Or maybe just buy a pentax to Canon one since I also have a Viltrox speedbooster and a Sigma MC-11 adapter. Most of the time when I see bargains, I try to overthink coz the item might be too good to be true. Then I rationalize that what Im buying is a bargain and buy it. Then after a few days, a cheaper version will pop up and then regret my decisions Actually already have the Takumar 50mm 1.4. Are they the same? But still can't test it coz I'm thinking if I can just buy a Pentax to Canon adaptor, since I already have a Viltrox speedbooster for m43 and Sigma mc-11 for Sony, or separate M42 adaptors for M43 and Sony1 point

Yeah, I have like two tricks so I can make most footage look either way with any NLE... skillz. But seriously, I am just trying some different things. I prefer coloring in FCPX, I think the curves are smoother but I think I prefer processing the footage through Resolve better than MLV App. MLV App is just too slow. I wish I could get the LogC curve in Resolve. My next test is to use the CST that Juan Melara uses in Resolve. I tested it once a while back and with just a simple LogC to Rec709 LUT and an S-Curve I came up with this... That was shot with either the Canon 24-70mm f/4 or the 35mm f/2... I forget.1 point

I expect fewer sales for their GS camera than they're expecting. Because there are not "many" people who want a Global Shutter camera above all else as their holy grail, there are only very few, but these few are very vocal online and fool people into thinking it is more important than it really is. Well you'd still be needing plenty of lights if a person got the Digital Bolex instead.1 point -

Hey Guys and Kaylee, so I am adding the finishing touches to my first "proper" coorperate image clip, man what a cluster fuck but still fun and quite a steep learning curve on every level, communication wise, shooting and editing aswell. To get to the point. Some clips I have shot espacially ones where tripod panning it feels like I am back in Canon t2i country resolution wise. On top of that I have shot the pans in 50p and when rolling in 25p it seems fairly choppy, slowmo seems to sober it up abit. I was wondering if someone has a trick for Resolve to even out the chops? Further would the precieved resolution los (maybe just motion blur?) be less when shooting in raw as the compression can't really handle it and mushes it up? Just in general I am trying to get to grips with how it works as pretty much all the glide cam shots i did seem to be super smooth (as in not choppy) AND sharp but they are not straight pans. Is it a sensor readout problem? Anyway maybe so can enlighten me a bit, cheers.1 point

heres a stupid question: if my (slow) sensor readout runs left to right, top to bottom, is that a factor in moving the camera? like a camera whip to the left would be going the opposite direction of the readout, so to speak, so panning to the right might look a little better? any truth to that? this is the kind of "article" im going to write for kayleerumors lmaooo1 point

I'm the furthest thing from a SJW And in that post he was saying in the hypothetical example that you gave, then that would be ''criminal'' to do. Maybe because you actively try to not learn anything more about them? Other than coming into this thread to post negative things about them. This board is a little more hip-and-shoulder than other places, so strong opinions are kind of the norm here. They do spark disagreements sometimes too. However, this forum has been through a number of discussions about the merits of free-speech vs political correctness and (IMHO) the general tone of those conversations was that open and honest opinions were more valuable than keeping nice with everyone. Be that for better or worse! In terms of the style of that video, it is a very strong style of editing, one which we know the internet took up heavily and is now a cliche, and for many without much talent is a crutch and people churn out videos with impressive transitions instead of making useful content. You may also not be aware, but many of the people on here are older, who came from broadcast or ENG where the bells and whistles weren't even available. I don't know how young you are, but there is a huge range of tastes, much moreso than the 20-something "professionals" who think that The Matrix is classic cinema, and haven't watched a foreign or B&W film in their lives. Besides, @webrunner5 is just grumpy sometimes1 point

In terms of what you can try to improve the clips you've already shot, here are some thoughts. Try using the stabiliser to smooth out the pan a little. The stabiliser will crop into the image, but if you're only wanting to stabilise a slightly jerky pan then it shouldn't have to crop much at all to really help. Here's a useful video: If you're really seeing compression artefacts then you can attempt to hide them by adding a small amount of blur to smooth them over and then adding a small amount of sharpening after that to match the look with your other shots. This is a pretty nasty thing to do to your footage and if you add too much of this treatment it will look like very low quality footage, but if you add a tiny tiny bit of this then it might improve things a small amount. I'd suggest using the OFX plugin called something like Soften and Sharpen which allows you to soften/sharpen small/medium/large textures individually, so you can do it all in one place and just turn it on/off to check if you're making things better or worse Nice work on plowing through a paid gig - hopefully the first of many?1 point

It appears the ND filter is kind of a "gimmick" and only available with stills. It appears to take multiple images in order to create a shot that appears to have an ND? Resolution loss, panning and RAW
hansel reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
Yup, sounds like simple compression artifacts to me. Downscaling might make it subjectively more pleasant to look at, but won't recover any details that have been mushed. The only real solution would be to use a higher bitrate or better codec to begin with. Raw of course solves every problem, but is usually overkill. High bitrate intraframe codecs are ideal for fast pans, but even using a higher bitrate interframe codec would improve the image. However, a better acquisition format doesn't fully solve the problem. If you distribute on a streaming service, then it will be compressed into mush, whether you shot in Raw or not. The delivery format is often the limiting factor these days.1 point -
Its the gateway aspect of the E mount that appeals. Leaving aside the additional similar options the E mount range offers to Nikon users, having access to the Batis range no longer means you have to get a Sony body to have Zeiss lenses with AF. The adapter itself is only a few mm deep anyway so if you put the EF lens adapter on it its a negligible difference between putting Nikon's FTZ adapter on the camera really. Being able to also use the TechArt PRO opens up a lot of possibilities for fast, affordable and very compact full frame M mount lenses from Voigtlander and 7Artisans (28mm f1.4 and 50mm f1.1 are less than £650 for the PAIR!) and of course gives them AF, again for similar overall footprint than the FTZ adapter. So whilst there is obviously a ton of wonderful Nikon glass out there it is worth bearing in mind that only 4 Nikon lenses will go directly on these cameras without an adapter and it is going to take them a long time before the majority of their most renowned ones are available in the native mount. Funnily enough, despite being so heavily invested in the Nikon system, its actually only the availability of this adapter thats slightly enthused me about buying one of the Z series !1 point

Z Cam E2 will have ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FPS in 4K??
IronFilm reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
The GH5 is a lot more expensive even used, compared to the E2C. The E2C is like if Panasonic had put 4k 10 bit into their G85. Same thing that already happens when you get a phone call during a shoot... you ignore it and don't ruin the take. Haha, I kid--it's a valid point. But to be fair, people already use their iphones to shoot serious videos. It's easier to pop the monitor off and make a call on it than to get it out of one of those fancy rig/cage things with the lens on front and everything lol.1 point -
Z Cam E2 will have ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FPS in 4K??
IronFilm reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
The E2C is certainly an interesting new camera. My guess is it's the same sensor as the E1, but with a better processor, and updated I/O to fit with the E2 family. If so, there was minimal R&D involved, just putting together pieces Z Cam was already familiar with. I'm not really interested in buying one, but it seems like a brilliant option for live streamers. POE can really cut cable clutter. For $800 you can get a brand new camera that shoots 10 bit internally. Amazing how far we've come. On a more speculative note, a future that I've imagined is using a tiny PC as a recorder. Run ethernet from the camera to the PC, affix an audio interface to the top, and record multi-track audio in sync with the video using your favorite software. No timecode or synchronization needed, just one record button for everything. You can use codec you want, any hard drive you want. Review footage and edit metadata with a full blown OS. It might be, but the E2C is significantly cheaper for a brand new camera, even compared to a used GH4 and a new Ninja V, plus the E2C is a significantly smaller setup. If you already have an apple phone, your monitor needs are already covered. With the E2C, you get H.265, and I assume it will eventually have ProRes internally. It seems there are advantages to both.1 point -
Just to put some things in perspective. P4K can be used for professionsl work, as it is, and I did. A very demanding 1 day shooting with random Canon batteries (non original), SD card and whatever lenses we had (m43/EF metabones). No problem at all. The monitor is the biggest one ever existed, not even some dedicated video cameras have such a good monitor. I doubt the C200 monitor is any better, and that is a 9000euros camera. People are using terrible NON touch monitors on Sony cameras still, and most 3" cameras in the market are much worst.this is a huge leap ahead. Personally, I bought a SmallHD Focus a year ago, but I had it on one of my other cameras that day. I missed a tilting mechanism at some points (very low angles when on a gimbal). Again, the battery isn't worst than any Sony camera we have used in the past, and Sony were top sellers in mirrorless. There is no camera with better in-camera sound than a dedicated microphone can provide, and this BM has a mini xlr, which no one else offers anyway. This camera offers RAW, but all flavors of prores also. When you buy the Z, you can not use it out of the box, when you buy the Pocket, quite literally you can (if you count the SD card that includes, you do not even need any additional media ?). That is the truth.1 point
