  1. Whats that ? You want to be able to wirelessly view the live video feed from the Pocket 4K while controlling it like you can with all those other cameras? There is no app that can let you do that with a Blackmagic Cam.... Oh.

  2. Wow what a disappointment for video! I do have to disagree with some commenters here tough, I don’t think M43 is going anywhere anytime soon. The GH5, 2 years on, still hasn’t been beat. The GH6 will likely set the world on fire again. The Z cam E2 and BMPCC4k are powerhouses. It’s a really great format that just seems to be getting better, very quickly.

  3. Haha! I bet most of the top 100 most important films in humam history didn't have any gimbal use at all! I do agree with you though, still can't make my Ronin S work right and that drives me crazy!

  4. LOL...*that* is why my GH5 sucks in low light compared to the GH5s I knew that only the GH5s had dual ISO, but it certainly didn't occur to me when I was writing that comment. There are a couple of other differences that sometimes trip me up, like timecode differences between the GH5 & GH5s. I have moved my GH5s cameras to A & B, and my GH5 is usually pulling duty as the C cam and as a cam for taking photos. For the last couple of shoots, I have even brought in one of the BMPCC4Ks and replaced the GH5, so the GH5 is only pulling duty for photos. OH and I solved the BMPCC4K battery problems. I have a 158Wh v-mount battery on 15mm rods behind the camera. It runs pretty much all day now

  5. For those who are on a tight budget and would like de-noise, de-clip, de-hum, de-click, BH Photo has IZOTOPE RX Elements Audio Restoration and Enhancement Software (Download) on sale for $10 (regularly $130) in the deal zone for 9 more hours. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1356812-REG/izotope_10_rxe_rx_elements_audio.html

  6. Yeah. For me, it really is the ideal format. Small, nimble, and perfect for doc work. Aside from having a FF cam to allow extreme shallow DOF in tricky interview/talking-head settings, I really don't want for much else.

  7. To me, cinematic means the feeling or experience you have when watching a theatrical release film. There’s too many elements to list as to what makes an image cinematic - lighting, composition, story etc. Generally, I think the Youtubers attempts at “cinematic” is more “stylised videography”. There’s an enhancement and focus on camera movement, grading, maybe lighting that gives a more captivating viewing experience, but not quite “cinematic” as such. Then again, like “filmic”, these are just words. Is the content compelling enough to sit through? That’s what matters. If the answer is yes, it’s job well done. “Cinematic” or not.

  8. Very disappointing as I thought for sure it would have an electronic ND for video. That would be the one feature that would have set it apart. I think you’ll see M43 be the area where features will be offered a year or two before full frame cameras (due to less processing power needed for smaller sensor). The GH5 has features that still have not been replicated in the full frame world (4K 60p, 10-bit All-I, etc) - and that’s been out for more than two years. Funny that it seems Panasonic will be the one to change that. The GH6 will be the big test. I’m guessing it will have 6k or 8k, 120fps 4K, and internal NDs - maybe even updated XLR functions. Hopefully GH5s low light capabilities too. They might as well make it the ultimate indie doc camera (like an XC-15 with MFT Mount and all the big features). Those features paired with their new 10-25mm f1.7 could be the ultimate journalist, doc filmmaker camera.

  9. It s not about the gimbal either.

  10. Cinamatic is intention. If you intend it and it has a purpose it can be cinematic. If your gimbal isnt calabrated right and you get jittery footage it's not cinamatic but if it was controlled and intentional like in Saving Private Ryan it certainly could.

  11. To be honest, I know what you mean about the quality and the coating. I've experienced the flaws with the M43 version, though this cheap one for the EOS M has been producing great results. I think the Vignette you mention is from the cheap ND Filter I was using (the Zomei), but nonetheless, it could also be a typical wide open aperture thing. Also, great news with the new build. Looks very promising for Magic Lantern users. Cheers!

  12. "La terra trema", or the "Bicycle thief" are "cinematic"? The John Cassavetes "Shadows"? "Benny's video" by Hanecke? "Festen" by Vinterbergh? Was "A bout de Souffle" by Godard? These are films I saw in the "cinema" the first time I saw them. This is the first time I am replying to such a thread in my many years in the industry, and forums, but in 2019, this is just a silly question as any, with no really substance at all. There are no such term, stop putting human expression inside norms and borders.

  13. I agree, the final image is the most important but maybe i'm old school in believing a camera has nothing to do with creating cinematic images. Story, lighting, sound and audio, lens choice, costume, and set design is what determines if something is "cinematic" for me. But hey if the EOS R works for you, more power to you. You don't need me to justify your purchase.

  14. odd that you mention that just now.... i just bought an el nikor 63mm enlarger lens. been waiting for one of these to turn up at a reasonable price for awhile now. i guess my lens addiction is off to a good start this year?

  15. If you have not seen this Webrunner5...take a look at what Mark Smith did with a Sony a9 while shooting birds in Florida...

  16. Hang out on these forums more often... People here use native lenses, speed-boosters, non-speed-booster adapters, vintage stills lenses, vintage cinema lenses, and even free-lensing of lenses! I don't remember anyone using non-camera lenses like projector or enlarger lenses, but someone probably has.. Welcome! Personally, my m43 kit has both native and vintage lenses in it. I do own a m42 to m43 0.7x focal reducer which I might use with a ~50mm to fill in the 80-100mm equivalent spot in my kit, but I might end up just using a 35-50mm lens without a focal reducer and therefore not end up using it at all. The crop factor makes it a spectacular choice for longer zooms too, for sports or for wildlife. A 135/150/200mm vintage FF lens will set you back less than dinner and a movie, and combined with a $10 dumb-adapter you get a fast, high quality and solidly built manual telephoto lens, plus because you're cropping into the lens with the sensor size you don't get all the CA and soft-focus of the corners of those lenses so they're even better than when they were new!

  17. I agree with all this, yet I am still a tad disappointed with the camera. Maybe we are just ultra-spoilt. Or maybe we are just not wildlife photographers!?

  18. Not even close ... there is a small badge of a dog in a squat on the lenses. Truth is Richard takes marginal glass and makes it sing. But is humble enough to acknowledge the fact he was not using Zeiss or Leica or Schott glass at that point. Loved the lenses ... which quickly escalated to levels that most cannot afford. Tongue in cheek ... not immature.

  19. yes that is so poignant and true, not to mention hilarious on so many levels ( one can only hope that someone from bm sees this and perhaps gets galvanized into action) that's definitely most interesting and inventive take on a camera release, someone should probably post that in the sony fanboys thread, i'm sure they would react with total awe edit : im eagerly waiting for the letter part 3 the unboxing

  20. @Mako Sports Thanks for the heads up! I purchased the ERA Bundle Pro without the clipper December 15th and I received an email that it is a free up date for me to ERA Bundle Pro 3, which is appreciated. I will check it out! I only reason I purchase the ERA Bundle Pro in the first place was to get the ERA N denoiser plugin which is amazing as you said. This clipper could be just what the doctor ordered as I have never found a de-clipper that was transparent / natural sounding. Hopefully ERA De-Clippper is the one. For those who are on a tight budget and would like denoising and declipping, BH Photo has IZOTOPE RX Elements Audio Restoration and Enhancement Software (Download) on sale for $10 (regularly $130) in the deal zone for 9 more hours. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1356812-REG/izotope_10_rxe_rx_elements_audio.html

    Olympus EM1-X Rumor

The handheld hi-res sample of a palm tree from DPReview look mushy, no real resolution gain from 20MP if you pixel peep the JPEG.

  22. I really wanted to like this camera... but there are so many other choices at lower price points with arguably as good or better overall features that I can’t justify buying one. It’s hard for me to envision anyone switching brands for this camera or adding one to their existing kit for an additional feature set. Even for die-hard Oly fans the EM1-mk2 seems like a much better value as a “Pro” camera and for casual use the EM-10mk3 can’t be beat. Not sure who will really buy the EM-1X for $3k. Seems like a real missed opportunity for Olympus to increase their market share.

  23. Yeah I feel the same way about the output. But if a person is into the new look, I'm not, it is a real bargain like you said. Thanks for the reply.

  24. I was a fan of this camera based on rumors. Then comes out Af is not that great, EVS is not that great, and electronic ND is not really a ND. Well, handled hires is still a thing but not for that price. Sorry Oly, I really wanted to love you.

  25. the unpleasant thing is, that this shows how bad the E-M1 II was and not how good the E-M1x is. It will be interesting to see, how the camera compares to the real focussing monsters, A9, A6400, X-T3 or the best DSLRs.
