Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video

Maybe they've deliberately chosen the 14th to announce it as its Valentines Day and they want to show some love to their customers. Or is it going to be a case of Roses are red, Violets are blue, Canon is Canon, No 4K for you.8 points -

Add 1 or 2 of your favorite tips to pass on to those just getting started with videography and filmmaking. Pro Tip 1. ALWAYS pack your gear bag the night before a shoot. Packing the day of or just before a shoot you are more likely to forget something. Pro Tip 2. If you shoot events, especially outdoors - pack some hand warmers into your pockets or Media Credential pass in case it gets really cold.3 points -
Thanks, it's so nice to hear voice of modesty, out of endless verbal judging what is future or what is dead. Actually, it seems that inner peace and modesty are the most important talents to make a gems such these - with NX1. (And it is great to see that Black Pencil still use NX1... last post is just one month old one).3 points

steadycross a new kind of steadycam / glidecam ?

It's not as good as a full steadycam rig or the best gimbals. But imo better than any Glidecam I've seen. They asked if I wanted to test it.2 points -

Take twice as many batteries as ... just kidding! Have a checklist of some kind so you don't forget things. It can be written, it can be filling each pocket of your bag, whatever, but have a system. Have a process when you get back to base (your room, your office, whatever) and be sure to include: Putting everything back on charge Downloading and backing up media Cleaning things After getting back to base take 5 minutes to think about what worked, what didn't work, and what you might change.2 points -

1) Shoot static shots exclusively for a few years with two prime lenses. It's a hard discipline to adopt, but if you can do it, you'll quickly develop into a better shooter than your peers. 2) Edit your own footage often and learn what "coverage" really means. 3) Take twice as many batteries as what you think you need.2 points -
Best cheap wireless hdmi transmitter
capitanazo and one other reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
Quite a prescient topic as I have just picked up one of these Skyzone TX5D transmitters. It has an HDMI input and then converts it to analog transmission on 5.8GHz. Your options to view it are then an integrated FPV monitor (or goggles if you are that way inclined) or via a receiver that connects to an android phone. Transmitter is less than £50, a monitor can be had for under £100 or the android adapter is about £30. You also need to budget another £20 for a lipo battery to run it on. The benefit of doing it this way aside from the cost is that it is really low latency. As this stuff literally only turned up a couple of days ago, I haven't had a chance to put it together but I'll post something up here in a few days about it.2 points -

GH5 vs XT-3 vs A7III low light
Xx123456xX reacted to thebrothersthre3 for a topic
Do you need 10 bit? Fuji has nicer color science but the A7III ain't bad, HLG looks pretty nice. When comparing the cameras they'll all capture roughly the same amount of detail on these settings; GH5 3200, XT3 6400, A7III 25,0001 point -

steadycross a new kind of steadycam / glidecam ?
thephoenix reacted to Mattias Burling for a topic
Yes I have one. No I don't think they have released it yet, its a crowd funding project. Dont have to worry about batteries. Its not as versatile as a gimbal, can't turn it upside down. But for 99% of all the shots I would use a gimbal for it works just fine. No jitters like my Moza Air get from time to time. Its kinda like a glidecam but not as annoying to get steady. Easier to use imo.1 point -
It’s pitty Panasonic hasn’t come up with some kind of mechanical lock for its IBIS.1 point

Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video
Mako Sports reacted to Blancblue for a topic
Awesome Page. There are some very interessting facts, which explain the Canon / Sony Color Discussion: A7III: Color reproduction by the Sony Alpha 7 Mark III is accurate, with only one color showing a strong deviation from the original. ∆E ranges from 8.9 at ISO100, to a small range between 9.7 and 10.0 at ISO400 to ISO 1600. Photo: The automatic white balance implemented by the Alpha 7 Mark III is excellent, with values between 0.0 and 0.2 at all ISOs measured between ISO100 and ISO25600. Video: Automatic white balance is not excellent, with scores of 1.5 (low ISO) and 1.4 (high ISO). Just for the record - DR: Photo: The dynamic range exhibited by the Alpha 7 Mark III is very good: over 10.1 f-stops (up to 10.3) at all ISOs tested between ISO100 to ISO800. Dynamic range remains high as ISO increases (9.8 f-stops at ISO1600) up to ISO6400 (9.2 f-stops). However, once again, ISO12800 shows poorer results, with a drop of nearly a full f-stop to 8.3. The extended ISOs are even worse: for example, 6.9 f-stops at Hi1. Video - Dynamic range is good: 9.0 f-stops at low ISO and 8.0 at high ISO. EOS R: Color reproduction is good, with only 6 colors deviating strongly, five of which are reds. ∆E is consistent and ranges from 10.3 to 10.6 at all ISOs tested. Photo: Automatic white balance is very good, ranging between 0.3 and 0.6 at all ISO s tested from ISO 100 to ISO 12800. Video: Automatic white balance is decent at high ISO (0.7) but poor at low ISO (1.2). Color reproduction is nearly as good as in still images, with a ∆E of 11.7 at both high and low ISO . Just for the record - DR: Photo: Maximum dynamic range: 14.1 f-stops measured at ISO 800. Dynamic range is more than 10 f-stops at all ISO s from ISO 100 up through ISO 3200. At ISO 100, dynamic range is measured at 10.9 f-stops, at ISO 400 12.9, and at ISO 1600, 11.0. Dynamic range is poorer at the higher ISO s, with a minimum tested among the native ISO s, or 7.9 f-stops at ISO 25600. Video: Dynamic range is good in video (9.7 and 9.0 f-stops for low and high ISO , respectively). Automatic white balance is decent at high ISO (0.7) but poor at low ISO (1.2). Color reproduction is nearly as good as in still images, with a ∆E of 11.7 at both high and low ISO. Conclusion: Color Reproduction and Color "Beautyness" are two different shoes. And Auto White Balance makes a different, too. Imho, the 5 deviating reds and the better AWB is the key, why a lot of people might prefer canon colors over sony - in terms of video.1 point -
I do believe that the samsung T5 issues only isolated to the 500gb or 250 gb models. I have 1Tb and 2Tb versions and never have any problems connecting. The 500 gb I tested on the other hand did established some trouble connecting pre FW6.1 As we are all aware even in the same line of media the higher capacity normally have higher spec. I suspect this unreliable ssd connection issue coming from the fact that BM should have quoted the specific model in their list instead of the whole line up.1 point

Canon's future: EF or RF?
IronFilm reacted to thebrothersthre3 for a topic
Yeah but most of that stuff isn't really tech advancement, just stuff they left out of the 1DX2 presumably to protect their cine line or maybe because its Canon. Again Canon just feels behind, 6 years ago Sony was doing mirrorless full frame, Canon just released a mirrorless full frame body, and it can't do full frame 4k. Panasonic generally updates all of their bodies a new GH, G, and GX and when you look from Camera to camera you generally see pretty large advancements all across the board. I don't that is seen as much with Canon. Same with Sony people like how they just throw top of the line AF in a $900 body. Canon just jumped into mirrorless so they are playing catch up. Will be interesting to see what they put out in the next couple years. Not saying Canon is not a great system, maybe even superior to anything else depending on your work. I am sure the top dogs at Canon have a strategy just like all the other brands. I'm just saying I get why people are salty about them. True although I think we all know Sony will soon release a body that will output 10bit (likely two bodies).1 point -

Canon's future: EF or RF?
Kisaha reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
I'll have to take your word on it for "better optics." As far as extra contacts, extra lens ring, corrections, etc, all of that could have been done without changing the physical mount. Adding more pins and checking them for connectivity to determine what kind of thing is attached is essentially how USB OTG cables work. It will be interesting to see if Canon actually follows through with much smaller lenses. Looking on Canon rumors, the RF 70-200 2.8 changes in length from 173mm to 243mm when zooming, whereas the EF version maintains a constant 199mm. So depending on your zoom level you are gaining or losing length, though it is nice that it can be stored in a slightly smaller package. I can't find any information comparing the weight.1 point -

On the subject of Sandisk 95mb/s, BMD have this to say: Please note that we have discovered an issue with the newer revision of the Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SDXC 95 MB/s cards that begin with the product prefix SDSDXXG. These cards do not work with the following products: 1. Pocket Cinema Camera 2. Micro Cinema Camera 3. Video Assist 4. Video Assist 4K We believe that these new cards have the V30 rating on them. Currently, only Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SDXC 95 MB/s cards that begin with the product prefix SDSDXP are compatible. https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=830501 point

Probably an odd question because I‘m coming the other way around than most people: What are my camera choices for the Voigtländer 35mm f/1.4 or 40mm f/1.4 Nokton? I realize that I can use them natively on a M-mount camera or via adapter on every mirrorless system but I obviously want their intended FoV and characteristic and, as there’s no focal reducer for M-mount, that rules out the Leica M8, Fujifilm X and mFT cameras. I want a really basic, compact camera just to take portraits and still life pictures. Does someone know how bad these lenses perform on the original A7 or A7r due to the micro lens design? I find the M9 to still be really pricey and I don’t feel rangefinder focusing works well when relying on glasses (I’m short sighted so I can use EVF without glasses).1 point

Edelkrone USA support problem

Why US? Contact the Germany HQ directly. They usually reply less than 20 hours after they receive a mail.1 point -
It’s all relative. I don’t need FF 4K up to 60p at a low bitrate with paid upgrades. I don’t need a questionable AF system. I don’t need a camera that has possible overheating issues. But when I do decide to get another camera, I would like IBIS and I’d like to use my existing EF lenses with a dependable AF system... hopefully Canon offers all of these features in an upcoming model. But again, my original comment was just a statement against all recent camera releases. They’re just boring. Until these cameras offer internal/external Raw/ProRes they seem to be minor upgrades where picking your poison out of a hat is a valid reason to choose one over the other... or base it on the lenses you already own.1 point

No articulating screen? PASS! Specs are meaningless if the body isn't practical. I've had enough of dicking around with "solutions" that just add complexity. If I can't flip the screen around the camera is useless. I do over a million views a month on Youtube and need to get shit done. www.youtube.com/spectresoundstudios1 point
