  3. Well, here we are then. The 3C app is now officially available from the Play store for Android devices. 3C enables you to remotely control and monitor the primary functions of your Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K from an Android device using Bluetooth LE. Using 3C, you have access to the following camera functionality. Aperture ISO Shutter Angle White Balance Record Focus & Zoom (with compatible lenses) With 3C you can also store your own custom setting sets for exposure, focus and zoom parameters for later recall as well as automate transitions between stored focus points*. For ease of use, 3C uses a single screen touch interface to control all of this functionality and avoid the need for you to have to activate any sub-menus to change settings. 3C has a scalable user interface to enable you to remove focus and zoom controls from the screen should you not require them and wish to run the app on a small screen Android device. In addition, 3C can also be used as an interface hub to enable control of the camera from compatible Bluetooth gamepads. You can purchase 3C from the Play store here http://tinyurl.com/y5eyujeu You can read the PDF user guide here User Guide For 3C v1.1 by CDA-TEK Ltd .pdf You can use gamepads from iPega and 8Bitdo that support keyboard mode and examples of these are https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KA6OR7Q (iPega) and https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017PAX036 (8Bitdo). 3C will also support wireless live viewing from the camera in a future update with additional hardware.

  4. I really like the image and the high frame rates look compelling - but I was put off the previous model because it was very heavy. I'd really love to see a version of this camera where they've seriously reduced the weight.

  5. Picked up the Fuji X-T3. Bribed my daughter with Maccas to model for a few minutes. No face or eye detect because i was rushing and just didn't think about it. You will see a few spots where it loses focus for a split second but if i had face tracking on at least i'm sure it would have been fine. Hopefully i uploaded the clip correctly.

  6. Bought an RP so I can develop a version of my C-LOG profile for it. It's going to straight back to Amazon when I'm done with that.

  7. 3k anamorphic mode on the mini!! why not on the pocket cinema 4K? Any ideas, anyone ever asked black magic?

  8. Y'all should be grateful Nikon even bothered to compete with anyone. Out of the Canikon duo, they are the only legacy company that threw all of its resources to mirrorless. They added IBIS, better EVF, 4k 30, 120FPS slow motion, 10-bit externally, possibly raw, they even built an adapter. If it wasn't for the X-T3, they would be in the same league as the A7iii. People pine over the EOS R, but they don't give a flying spaghetti monster of reaching their potential at that price point. Canon is crippled city!

  12. I can run a 4K signal to it using the same HDMI cable from a camera (GH5s is what I tested with), and the monitor will properly display an image downscaled to 2560x1440 and indicate on-screen that it's receiving the 3840x2160 signal. but from the 4K Mini Monitor PCI card, when sending a 4K signal, it will work going to a 4K display, but will swap over to an HD signal if connected to a 2560x1440 or 1920x1080 display. This is something I've tried everything to get working (Display Port, etc) and the only explanation left is that the Blackmagic Decklink card thinks it's helping by sending an HD signal when connected to a display with a native res beneath 4k/UHD. I haven't been able to get any info out of Blackmagic support, but have run into other people in various forum that have the same issue.

  14. Hi Andrew, I'm not sure when this trend started, but companies are not plural. It is "Panasonic has", not "Panasonic have". It makes me cringe observing the increasing number of people latching on to this mistake. Companies are a grammatical singular entity even though they refer semantically to an aggregation. (Semantics refer to the meaning of a thing). That aside, Tony's article bugged me too but after watching it several times, I realized he prefaced his negative comments with explanations of why he reached the opinion he did, and he was very careful to qualify all of his negative comments. Still, it bugged me that he posted a "commissioned" link to profit from any S1/S1R purchases - even though he says the camera is not yet a wise consumer purchase.

  17. Oh wait I thought the original had 4k 120fps, my bad. That is a good upgrade then. Maybe the OG ursa mini 4.6k will get down to $2500 used

  18. With BRAW they've put a realistic possibility of an SD card only, screenless, compact version a la BMMCC should be back on the table now I don't even think it has to be particularly dramatically cheaper than the current one either as its all about the alternative form factor. Something less power hungry and more easily flyable on a gimbal by virtue of getting rid of that big inflexible screen would get a lot of business as both an alternative to but also as a supplemental B camera for existing owners. Lets be brutually honest here and say that if it was 20% cheaper than the current one then you'd have TWO cameras and still be up on the deal compared to the cost of more pedestrian hybrid offerings.

  19. Looks like a nicely performing cinema/broadcast camera. The F-mount is interesting. The B4 mount suggests a crop sensor mode (but there might also be magnification optics in their B4 mount). Perhaps, in regards to S35, Blackmagic is starting to think a little outside of the EF/PL box. However, from the photo it appears that the internal NDs are permanent and this is yet another S35 camera from Blackmagic with an interchangeable lens mount that will not accept lenses and adapters requiring shallow mounts. So, there are countless nice, interesting lenses that cannot be used with this camera, nor will interchangeable FF-to-S35 focal reducers work with this camera and nor will special adapters (such as tilt/swing/shift, continuously variable ND, etc.) work. If this camera has a crop sensor mode, it would be great if it could accept M4/3 and C-mount lenses. On the other hand, @lucabutera's internal Magicbooster insert might work inside the camera's EF mount, even with the camera's internal NDs.

  21. I do not understand the enthousiasm, a mini A7s in your pocket? That was a camera instantly surprassed by the A7sII by the way. 12megapixels tiny sensors with 2.4f (the 2 lenses). Phones take very good casual pictures destined to be viewed on phones/tablets for years now. Someone has to put an 1" sensor there, and instantly will surprass anyone in both megapixels and low light performance. The mobile phone market is one of the largest in the planet with a huge increase in profit and consumers market share, for at least 3 decades now. Amazing things will happen every year until the end of the century probably or the destruction of the human race. Whatever comes first.

  23. I think its a brilliant move by Sony... Not everything needs a m4/3 or higher sensor... Think of it this way... you can have the Sony a7s3 for the sDOF & wide angle shots, and any other stuff that the phone can't handle... Its a good companion piece if you ask me...

  24. Higher frame rates is cool, though I am more curious about the new sensor. I wonder if it'll be better in low light. I recall the 120fps on the Ursa mini 4.6k wasn't too great. Maybe its improved on this one. Looks like a very interesting camera tho.

  25. If you're a Resolve Studio user, you can try this DCTL, it does the same thing as the Rec709toRec601.cube mentioned earlier, but it won't clip values, and it's a bit more precise: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pm3nbyco6wg25kx/FujifilmColorFix.dctl?dl=1

  26. Stills are still DNG, just tried it out. Attached it below! And for those interested and don't wanna calculate; With my T5 1TB I get 153min on both CB 3:1 and CQ0. (4K DCI, 24fps). CB 5:1 gives me 256min and Q5 is a whopping 611min. A001_03051107_S001.dng Also, this made me giggle; This is 1080p 24fps BRAW Q5 (Prores Proxy is almost 4000min lol)

  27. No, I took a design decision early on to leave the codec and format selection to being set at the camera partly to keep to the single screen ethos but primarily for safety purposes. If someone changes an aperture setting accidentally then its obvious and they can correct themselves but its not the same case with a change of format or codec so I decided something as potentially destructive as that is better left to be a consciously deliberate change that you have to use the camera menus for. BRAW is already supported in the control spec though so its a 20 minute job to add a selector in the future if people want it.

  28. But the question is - did they change the color of the ND selector? If not, FS5II is a much better option.

  30. LOL I have the first gimbal designed for P4K under 1 kg and a half for you! ; -) I thought about that. That's not good indeed, even though, if Peter Jackson didn't need it, will we? In any case, they should keep it there. You can always install it backwards as you wish and need, I guess, isn't it?

  31. Thanks for your response. That is such a good insight! When you are an artist, as a filmmaker, you find your own way of doing it and if it works and you have the time for it, I see no problem in this at all. In contrary, I think it is really nice if someone takes such passion and time for something, unless you would find out a much quicker way to do the same. Yes, I chose minoltas not for their price, but I looked at comparisons of images and their special way to treat colors just pleased me the best. Now I am happy I could afford the whole lens set without spending too much. Something that vintage lenses do is they give a special treatment to colors, where if I would take the same effort in post to try to create something special and tweak around a lot, it would probably turn out garbage until I become much better at grading. Did you encounter any problems with bringing the clips from HLG to rec709/premiere color space? Because the way that HLG is filmed it introduces a greenish color tint from what I have learned.

  33. Take a look at Bryn North's youtube channel. He has one video with Matt Hunter in Madeira. Pretty sure he used a GH5 and his parter a 1DX ii. They used to do a bunch of videos for Specialized's athletes. I know cause my better half is one, so I hung around Bryn and Etienne for a while. They would always go light and stealth with a GH5 & 1DX ii and do amazing stuff

  34. When TechArt release their E mount adapter, you will then be able to put their TechART Pro adapter on it. The basic premise of the TechART Pro is that it is a Leica M to Sony E adapter that enables you to have autofocus of the very not autofocus M mount lenses. When you activate the AF on the camera, the adapter physically moves the lens to achieve focus (you set the lens to infinity focus and leave it there). So far so very good as there are obviously a world of very fine M mount lenses available for you to bankrupt yourself with as well as some very fine ones from Voigtlander and 7Artisans that will hurt far less. The bonus though is via very cheap adapters to the M mount, you can do the same trick for manual focus lenses with Nikon F, Contax Zeiss C/Y, Canon FD, M42, Leica R, Minolta MD mounts and so on. There are some caveats regarding the weight of the lens so I wouldn't recommend you hanging an old 300mm f2.8 off it (although if you use a monopod and let the camera move rather than the lens then it is possible ) but it offers some great possibilities for getting more out of old lenses. Another bonus is that you if you set the focus on the lens to minimum rather than infinity you can actually reduce the minimum focus distance by quite a large amount because you are varying its distance to the sensor which you can't do with regular adapters.

  35. Some pretty amazing stuff there. I was a bit floored on how you accomplished some of those shots than it occurred to me maybe a lot of it was shot with a drone maybe? kye- nice timelapse, that's a nice view

  36. Yeah Samsung has Always had nice displays on their phones. Main reason I had so many of their Note Smartphones. But the DR edge now that the XS, XS Max has, and it seems Filmic Pro is really into Apple more than Samsung is the main reason I made the change. All these new high end phones are pretty amazing. The Sony Sony Xperia xz3 may be the real sleeper though for CS.

  40. I have one the XF100-400mm from my (mis)adventure in using the X-T2 for work. I can only comment for using it for stills and I didn't have any complaints about its sharpness or its AF tracking (the Ronaldo goal is part of a 10 shot burst where it nailed all of them) or the OIS but for my use case the slow aperture was a bit of a killer, especially at the long end and especially on a crop sensor camera. Not just low light performance (though that was a problem for floodlit games even in a Category 4 stadium like the Bernabeu here) but the subject separation just isn't there. The TC works well enough optically on it but, again, making an already slow lens slower was a problem for what I was using it for.

  41. Thanks Julius, that sounds cool about documentary. I'm addicted to finding and creating the moving paintings in nature with anamorphic lens. I'm very old school with my approach to color. I like to get things as close as possible to what I'm seeing. It's really the anamorphic lens, taking lens and filters that are giving me my look. I color with Film Convert to give me the greens, blues and yellows I like. Even then I dial the preset way down. I then use Lumetri to tweak contrast and highlights. With Davinci you have more tools and flexibility but for nature work, I feel the glass takes care of 90% of the final image. for my workflow, it's kinda tedious and not for everyone. I de- stretch each shot in it's native resolution. Some shot's are 8k and some 5k. I then do a first pass color treatment and then export out a Pro Res HQ 8k or 5k .mov file with max bit depth and render. Each clip I export is 20-30 sec's even know I end up using 6-8 secs. I then reimport and edit on a 5k timeline and do additional tweaks if needed. I'm sure working in Davinci with proxies might make more scents but I'm building a library of nature footage and want to go back to clips. The B&H and Minolta glass will create a very nice color pallet.

  42. Yeah the only reason I'd get the Nikon would be for the medium format look. I've got full frame (or really close) with my Fuji plus speedbooster. I've got the 50 1.4, 35 1.8, 24 2.8(this one probably wouldn't work so much), and 135mm 2.8.
