  1. This is following on from something in the thread for the Pocket4K for anyone looking to pick up an original Pocket or Micro or, like myself, dusting off an old one that might not be aware of an issue with available SD cards. All of the SD cards that I put in it (and I tried a lot !) where coming up with No Card error and no amount of re-formatting internally or externally was resolving the issue and then I went and had a look at the official forum and saw this https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=83050&sid=2c193679bb69a8d8f2c48ac0b85ced38 Basically, Sandisk made a change and the original cameras (and the Video Assist as well I understand) can no longer read them. Sony made a firmware change to accommodate it for their cameras but BM haven't and likely won't. The upshot is that it is a nightmare trying to find recently produced SD cards that will work with them and users have been trying and returning all sorts of different ones trying to find a solution. After a lot of this effort, the card type that came up as being able to work is, ironically, a Sony one. It is the UZ designation at the end that is important as there are a few similar looking ones. This is the Amazon link to this exact one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00YOKOJOU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Mine arrived yesterday and I'm happy to confirm that it does indeed work perfectly well with my original Pocket camera so if you are looking at picking a camera up used or getting one out of the back of a drawer and don't have the original media for it then I'd recommend picking one of these up. Apologies for the cross post but the info would have got lost in the behemoth Pocket4K thread and at the time of my original post to @mercer in there about it I hadn't been able to confirm personally if this particular card worked. And now I can

  2. First live event today. Some interviews and then some B-roll during a graduation ceremony. The IBIS is really a game changer, more than maybe any other feature/camera support system I've ever used. The IS-Lock is incredibly handy.

  3. I'm not sure if it's because I've finally upgraded to the paid Studio version of Davinci Resolve, but my NX1 footage plays flawlessly... YES! No more transcoding to DNxHR and ProRes... hot damn. This frees up a LOT of Hard Drive space. I'm using Davinci Resolve Studio - Public Beta 2 I maybe late to the party here, but this is great. My hacked NX1 with NX-L speed booster still holds up great in 2019. The dynamic range is a little weak, however the detail retention is awesome.

  4. This is why I disagree when people try to compare the GH5 to the P4K - they are different types of cameras. Funnily enough, the GH5 is a video camera, and the P4K is just what the name says - a cinema camera

  5. I think you are spot on here.... This photo was posted by OsitaLV on twitter (serial DJI leaker.) He also referred to the OsmoSport as a repackaged Osmo Pocket with wider angle lens. This also looks very small to me. Looks like an interesting product (but, then again, I am something of a DJI fan boy!!)

    DJI challenging GoPro?

The most interesting takes of the subject are from Sony. The 1" one and the BOSS one. But 1" sensor can make me invest on something, anything smaller is just smartphone territory.

  7. Hello! I recently made a tutorial in covering how to make film halation and grain in Resolve! I used two methods. One using the GHAlex LUTs for the GH5 and another way using Color Space Transform. This is my first ever video tutorial so I apologize if it's a little boring and long. Tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20epDbE9Adc Here's some examples using this method - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luaGcO-nzd8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNQMeGqoM7o If you like this, feel free to download the Power Grades I've provided on my website and experiment with them. Thanks!

  8. I can tell you even in Egypt, or maybe, especially Egypt, dentists are totally uper class and quite rich. There are no "poor" dentists in 3rd or 2nd world countries. Also, 70$ is too low for Egypt! 70$ is probably too low for the worst of the worst. This guy is terrible.

Has anyone tried the pan/tilt head shown in the CheezyCam video? Or any other remote controlled pan/tilt/rotate head? I am actually wanting one now, oh, and of course, the giant monster tripod also...

  11. Hi @Andrew Reid - this is the error message I've been getting intermittently on the site, and @webrunner5 commented he has as well. Feel free to delete this thread once you've seen it, I wasn't sure the easiest way to get this image to you

I've been playing with the new Speed Warp slow-motion function in Resolve 16 and did a couple of torture tests on some not-well-shot footage from the other weekends rodeo outing. It's not magical, but it's pretty impressive nonetheless. It's not a HFR replacement quite yet, but for some situations it might be good enough now. First video is comparing the new Speed Warp to the best previous available mode: and this is Speed Warp used on 4k50 footage to simulate 100/200/400 and 800fps: This is really a torture test for an algorithm like this because the shutter was at about 360degrees, there's heaps of motion blur, there are hard edges in front and behind the items moving, and the footage is noisy and not well focused giving edge detection for objects a really difficult time. If you shoot an unobscured subject on a defocused background with a high shutter speed I think it might be almost flawless at whatever frame rate you like. I've also made a little bracket to shift the Rode mic forwards so I can get full access to the viewfinder. Source products (via ebay): Modified bracket (cut and hole drilled): Mounted on GH5: With mic (note that the mic cable is now level with the body):

Maybe it is the screen from the Osmo Pocket. That would make complete sense, to repackage the existing components you're already using and have bug fixed and written software for. That would be pretty cool. Does anyone know if it has the same number of buttons as the Osmo Pocket? If so, it might be a gimbal-less version of the same imaging pipeline.

  15. Killing people and wiping them out is hardly a new concept in society. Even Chimpanzees make humans looks tame. It is just now it can be done on a larger scale, and it is reported in 2.5 minutes all around the world. It is now the new normal. Living creatures are cruel as shit. Survival of the fittest and all that. Even plant life is protective and invasive as hell! It Ain't going away any time soon. You probably haven't seen or been involved in what I have seen or done in my lifetime to humanity. It is Fucking ugly, Really ugly trust me. And we do it in the name of God and Country, everyone's different God and Country on both sides, that is what is ironic as shit. Piss poor excuse sad to say. ?

  16. Big things are happening! I just received my E2C which is the smaller budget version of the E2. It can shoot 4k at up to 30fps in ProRes and it costs only $800 (I got it for a little less due to early bird preorder)! I'll be doing some comparisons of it vs my bigger E2 tomorrow, hopefully. Also, for the full-size E2, Z Cam just released firmware 0.86 which, among many other nice improvements, adds 4kp160 (2.4:1 instead of 16:9). I hope to find something that is moving tomorrow to play with that as well.

  19. lol yeah. I saw comments about cinema cameras that Canon cameras will dominate them. Such as dual pixel AF can replace current focus pulling. He knows nothing about cinematography. Btw, does he really works as a professional? This is what he said: "I work in the professional video industry, saying that all these amazing technological advances aren't needed because 'real' pros work around them, is exactly like those saying pros don't need anything but a MF Leica without an LCD. It's ridiculous. 1- An EVF is an emmensely valuable tool for cinematographers, and external cinema EVFs are extremely low quality for some reason. To get a 3.89m dot type external EVF, you'll pay 5000+, and have an HDMI cable dangling. 2- IBIS is an extremely valuable tool, and we've tried the GH5 on gimbals and it actually aids 3 axis gimbals, not work against them, I call BS from Panasonic and pretty sure the oversized sensor just didn't have room to move inside the mount. Cinematographers have been using IS cameras and lenses on gimbals for years and they work very well. Plus this is a handheld camera, not an URSA Mini. 3- AF, anyone who doesn't appreciate AF in the cinema work is either a snob shooting film or didn't try DPAF! It saves money." BS. https://***URL removed***/news/8108094649/photojournalist-faces-death-penalty-in-egypt-for-covering-anti-government-protests?comment=2254558522 Actually, some of them found his past. Quality backpack suggestions?

of course not! Not even close..I tried some of the bigger backpacks, and were totally inconvenient for carrying around, and/or Air travels, so I decided to go with something slightly smaller (like this 450 LowePro or Tenba 32L, anything more is HUGE, and heavy). My main issue is that I have A LOT of equipment (like taking with me 2-3 bodies, and 5-6 lenses, and build from there) so it was a wishful thinking I could fit all in one backpack. If you add laptop/surface/sound/monitors/gimbal/360cameras/drone e.t.c is just too much. But for a more "self-controlled" approach, or 1-2 days of specific shooting, it can fit a lot of stuff. If you can take 2 bodies, 3 lenses, drone, a Surface Go (instead of the laptop) and no gimbal, it can be quite good. I prefer it from older LowePro designs, and it can be quite deep. Check these photographs from the Amazon review from 24 February 2019, he can fit a camera/lenses/accessories/a gimbal and a Mavic. https://www.amazon.de/Lowepro-ProTactic-Camera-Laptop-Backpack/dp/B07J1ZNZXF/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 All in all, I remembered why I was avoiding back packs for so many years. The bag I use the most is the Vanguard Quovio 41 or 48 (don't remember which one I have). I have it for 5 years now and it is being amazing. I found it more appropriate for video work, when you have some rigging going on already, open the bag and take what you need, the backpacks and similar bags are more photography orientated, or just to carry thing from place A to B, but not from A to B to C, back to A e.t.c! Last job I fit there - quite easily - 3 bodies, 3 lenses, Surface Go, Focus 5", hard drives, too many batteries, chargers, cables, Sennheiser 25 headphones, Sennheiser MKH 440 and Rode Micro and a small Manfrotto tripod on top! I took the Mavic on its DJI bag, and no gimbal (actually I am not sure why I bought the Ronin S, I never use it!).

A ton of different GoPro competitors but when you stack them side-by-side, the Hero 7 Black has better image quality than all of them.

    DJI challenging GoPro?

Looks like a GoPro copy, and the 7 has insane stabilization. I have it and it really works. Really happy with the footage I get. On my previous GoPros I was always disappointed with how the image looked on my computer VS gopro promotional videos. Not anymore. I think the IS accounts for 90% of that and the IQ is also better. Let’s see what DJI brings, raw maybe? But useless for me on an action cam. i don’t get why they wouldn’t put a 1” sensor. The P4 and Mavic Pro have very small cameras yet 1” sensors.

I have a plastic fantastic coming in the mail today... the Canon 24-85mm 3.5-4.5. I paid less than $60 for it. I’m hoping it matches well with my Canon 28mm 1.8 for a two lens set up. The flickr samples look pretty good, has anyone ever used it?

  27. In short: A: They are all actually great at something B: But none of them great at everything And the answer is there never will be because in the near future someone will be criticizing the crop on the 12k 120p or the fact that Camera X only has 17 stops of IBIS compared with Camera Y. Etc. Or just go out and use what is currently best for you and enjoy it. Which everyone knows is the Fuji XT3. Despite no IBIS. And it’s not FF. But APART from that... ?

  29. Sony monopoly danger? Maybe Do this market just needs to slow down? Do we need to look at what we have from 2012 and realize it's good enough? Do we have to sit back and watch the rise of smartphone cameras? For now, I'm going to stick with my m43 gear. It's more than good enough, cheaper, lighter and gives me a really different aesthetic.

  31. To prove resolution is and is not anything to be focus about, just a tool as many other variables no less crucial: From YT page: << Footage shot with the Canon EOSM in early March 2019. First of three videos - this one uses the Pentax SMC 50mm f1.7 lens. Used Image Stabilisation in post - I prefer not to as it gives some of the footage that usual warbling effect, but it gets pretty windy on exposed mountain sides and this is nicer than shaky footage. 33. Latest EOS M ML RAW builds are from master chef Danne, here: https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9741.msg208959#msg208959 And you can follow development on the same thread. MLV App is de facto the only application to use as starting point of your editing. It is as an extension of the EOS M ML RAW video for many reasons: - effective way to remove focusing pixels - correctly debayering 5K Anamorphic crop mode. Or pseudo anamorphic is reality but anyway And yes get the latest MLV App and EOS M RAW versions. Ilya keeps adding new features to MLV App and Danne keeps fixing bugs and improving the build.
