  1. Don't forget that even the rangefinder lens that he really has was sent by SLR Magic for free just for review/testing as "pro filmmaker". So Slr magic was scammed too. I enjoyed every post of this thread it was very fun and entertaining. It helped me in those days when I had a toothache. This scammer dentist helped me with my toothache fron miles kilometers away!

Yes, to Rec709 Gamma 2.4 (or simply Davinci YRGB for Color science). The project-level color management settings come into play when you want to conform all footage from one color space to another (with EC, the conversion does the conform). The S will come shortly after the P4K (next up)

  4. I detect a lot of anti-Chinese bias! It's reasonable enough to raise the topic but save us the old "China makes junk" cliche, it's no longer as simple. China is a developing economy and all countries go through eras of churning out cheap products during this phase. Japan did it. Even the US did it to some degree, but in a very different technological era. Looking at the camera companies - Sigma did it - made very cheap lenses in huge quantities for a LONG time before they started to do the high-end quality stuff we all respect so highly. What is going on at the moment is Chinese home-grown technology is cost competitive and technologically becoming on an even par with western stuff, so that combination makes it a huge threat to US businesses like Intel and Qualcomm. There are political reasons for smearing Huawei. There is also a distinction between IP, design and assembly / manufacturing. Most of China's developing economy has been based on assembly and manufacturing but now they are becoming big on original designs and products, which is another threat to the US economy. Especially in chip design and telecoms. As for quality, perceptions and stereotypes always vary... You're entitled to your views. I find them outdated. RED cameras and iPhones are hardly poorly put together products - both made in China. Foxconn. No doubt if they had been made in an American factory by American hands you'd think they were better made, but that says more about prejudiced opinion than the actual facts or the skills level of the Chinese workforce. Across Asia there are a lot of people highly educated and dedicated to their work otherwise they wouldn't do the things they are doing. And Chinese space programme is another flagship advancement, whether we can agree on their politics or not, the writing is on the wall. The US is no longer top dog. "There will be nobody left in China to do business with. Very bad for China, very good for USA!" --- Of course when you have this twat starting trade wars, you're bound to get people whipped up into a sinophobic frenzy. Let's look at the facts. It's hard to imagine a President so out of touch with US businesses, who have benefited massively from cheap Chinese labour and manufacturing. There isn't a single major US technology or camera company around today that doesn't need Chinese manufacturing or parts supply. And yet Trump thinks attacking that is very good for the USA, because he has a simple world view - "we can make stuff here... it's easy... just build a factory"... For a start, if you look at the quantities of natural resources, rare metals and energy required to make mass produce fundamental parts for modern technological devices and appliances, the US doesn't have any of it easily to hand like China does and digging them up at the scale required would cause massive pollution right on your doorstep. Is that would you want? If smartphones were all made in the US they would cost 10x more at retail and wouldn't sell a single unit vs cost effective competitors. The technology doesn't even exist at the required scale in the US to build the stuff, like it does in China, Japan and South Korea. We're talking here about the machines that make machines. Vast majority of the equipment is Asian. We are talking vast scale of manufacturing, where a single factory is the size of a small city and employees over 1 million people. Add up the cost of those people with US wages vs doing the same thing in China and you start to realise what a fucking amateur Trump is when it comes to business and why he has made enormous losses and write-offs in every one of his business ventures.

  10. But she has done that in the past without burning entire cities and killing thousands of innocents in what was essential demolition porn with the C4 explosive buff Drogon suddenly received. My biggest gripe is how lazy and sloppy they have been with basic continuity, basic character arcs, and history EVEN INSIDE THEIR OWN SHOW. It’s almost like they forgot what they even wrote in Seasons 1-7. I have no problem with Dany slipping into madness and killing everyone. I do have problem with the utter lazy, sloppy, convenient writing they did to just get it done. This season was so in effective in getting me to actually care what happens to the characters (something they did so well in past seasons) that it just comes off as almost malicious ineptitude. Especially around the Night King, Jamie, Jon, Dany, the power of the Dragons, and Euron. Oh, Euron! Euron is perhaps the most weakly, misrepresented character to ever be created. He exists solely to save D&Ds lacks of skill in wiring something compelling, makes sense, and has emotional impact. ”Man, how do we write this to make sense and resonate with the audience.” ”I don’t know man” ”Lets just have Euron teleport in, go all OP, and then peace out cause it’s to hard for us to write something compelling”. ”Awesome Idea!” Hopefully their work becomes a lesson on NOT what to do in writing stories.

  12. Here, I doubt there are any specs left to disclose. This will apparently be the same price as the GoPro Hero 7 Black $399, but: 1. Will have 2 screens instead of 1, and the larger one is 0.25 inches larger than the GoPro (which is 2 inches), and the smaller one is 1.4 inches, against the 1inch on the Osmo Pocket. Both the screens, IMHO, seem usable in terms of size. 2. Smaller and more portable than the GoPro(?), though the GoPro weights a little less. 3. Possibly wider dynamic range with the HDR options in the various video modes. 4. Waterproof upto 11 metres instead of 10. 5. More shooting frame rate options for photo. 6. Time Lapse and Interval shooting in RAW (not sure if the GoPro has this). What they both have in common: 1. Voice commands. GoPro seems to have more. 2. Super stabilized video. They would need to be compared with each other. 3. Waterproof out if the body. https://photorumors.com/2019/05/14/the-dji-osmo-action-camera-will-be-priced-at-399/

  20. I doubt they will do anything now if they haven't already but here is a link to a one page site made by one of the victims of the scam about it. https://ebrahimsaadawi.wordpress.com/ This is his vimeo page https://vimeo.com/ebrahimsaadawi And these are links to posts in this thread regarding the actual creators of that content that he his is passing off as his own. So if he doesn't steal your money, he'll steal your work. The point I raised a couple of days back about his post on THEIR site is very relavant as through this whole saga he was claiming to be the Grandfather and yet when confronted on DPR its suddenly was his Father. Who in another attempted deflection is also now deceased. That post also states quite clearly that the production company if it ever existed was never his and that he is a dentist. So by his own admission on THEIR site he has no organisation under which to perform media production and is actually gainfully employed doing something entirely unrelated on a full time basis. Allied to the only visible evidence of his film making being proven to be plagiarism then I'm not sure how much more evidence of him NOT being a professional film maker is actually required. None of this is new and is all contained in this thread which they have been alerted to on many occasions so either they haven't read it, don't consider it damning enough or don't care. As I said in the previous post, because of that, if something happens to one of their members then its on them. If you feel strongly enough that they are not doing enough to prevent him developing a similar scam on there then the next step would be to contact the actual owners of the site and tell them about your efforts. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Photography_Review

  25. Blah blah blah. Somebody's been watching the news! Somebody has probably been listening to Trump as well, blabber on about how dreadful the Chinese are. Well you make a political post, you get a political response. Or somebody showing you the facts on why they're wrong about Chinese manufacturing. Given time they will not just match Zeiss or Leica for lenses but surpass. Even this early in the life of the lens manufacturers, they are doing quality items. You infer they are not, and that the whole country is basically evil. Look at the images from this and tell me it isn't worth $700. https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-zhong-yi-mitakon-50mm-0-95-iii/ Or put your money where your mouth is and pay Leica prices. And just because I am pointing out to you some facts, doesn't mean to say I am suddenly a communist. Sure, the Chinese government is not a democracy. I hardly think a two party system like we have in the US and the UK is really all that much of a democracy either, but that's a separate discussion for another forum... And sure, criticise the Chinese companies for 'exposing their workforce to pollutants' but I don't see very much what this has to do with a camera forum... You started the topic based on quality of their technology, not the quality of their environment. Trump is running scared from China, and clearly sees their advancements as a threat to various underperforming US blue chip companies. I see this belief and fear is starting to take hold in some of the public as well.

  26. Nope...never got around to it. For the last year I have just been bouncing around based on what is new and trending for gear reviews. Im tired of bouncing around all the time and ready to stick to a system I will use for a while. Currently...the EOS R is in my bag along with the GH5. I recently re purchased the 1DC...but will probably just hold onto it for sentimental reasons now. Only paid $1700 for it. Its a great camera as a backup or something and I greatly prefer the look of it to the GH5 or the EOS R still! I bought and sold the EM1X from Olympus. Really enjoyed that camera and may trade my GH5 for that....Its the perfect little run and gun camera (ironically even though its got a massive built in grip). The IBIS is insanity...the color science is wonderful...I love MFT for the tiny lenses. ITS JUST WAY OVERPRICED!!! So I sold it....and will maybe re purchase one when I can get a deal on it.... There are some rumors of two new Olympus bodies coming out this year. Hopefully one of them will either be an EM5 mkiii or EM1 mkiii. Both of which should have the same improvements the EM1X had. Better more reliable phase detect AF for video....and the mode1 for stabilization correcting the wobble effect of the ibis. mode1 on the EM1X was incredible. Really makes using only the IBIS even for a wide angle lens possible. In 2020 we will see a 1DX mkiii and I will certainly buy one of those as I know it will hold its value for several years and it will be the most advanced Canon hybrid for a while. IDK. Canon makes me angry.

  27. Season 8 a huge disappointment here as well... i feel like I could skip the last episode and feel no loss. I'll probably watch it just for the sake of completion - kind of like I did with the 3rd Matrix movie (wow that sucked) and with Walking Dead (I went a couple seasons too long just because and gave up completely a couple of years ago). I've moved on emotionally from GoT and don't really care about the series wrap. But I still feel the thrill of the first few seasons, wow they were great and the failure of the final season doesn't distract from it. Good news is that if the books are eventually written, it will create an opportunity to re-do the series or at least redo from where the divergence occurred. Maybe HBO has an option for that... I imagine the financial success of this round all but guarantees someone will put the new books to film.

  28. I sometimes do the 'low budget' equivalent of that outdoors, by having the TM-2X mic on the camera and a Tascam DR-05 recorder alongside it (which has two omni-directional mic capsules to effectively record somewhat diffuse stereo). Then I mix and match between the two recordings at the editing stage. Also, if you want some behind-the-mic sound 'surround sound', remember that a simple 90 degree crossed-pair cardioid capsule mic arrangement (like a lot of stereo mics are, including the TM-2X) provides some of that as anti-phase signal (subtract the Left/Right channels to extract it in post).

  29. Based on this particular requirement, where you are wanting to capture behind as well forward of the camera, I'd see if you could get a demo of the Zoom H3VR ambisonic mic/recorder. Its slightly different (and slightly more expensive too) in being a recorder as well but it can be camera mounted and has a line out to feed the camera a guide track for easy sync later. Because it records in the Ambisonics format you then have the ability to steer the listening position in post to create the balance that you need between the action and the crowd. I am looking to buy one of these myself but haven't as yet so can't vouch for the quality at all (and the price of £300 is very cheap in comparison to anything else you'd need to have this capability) so as I say try and get a demo of it first. This is a demo that B&H did of it recording a jazz quartet in binaural mode so pop your headphones on to listen. It is meant for 360 viewing really but if you view it flat with the trumpet player and bass player facing you then you should be able to get the placement cues of the sax and guitar player to the rear of the listening position. When recorded in ambisonic mode, you will be able to alter the listening position to alter the balance to suit what you are after to make it more immersive.

  31. There is a component of economic development involved with manufacturing, I can't find what it's called (I'm sure it'll have a name) but it goes basically like this: Country decides it needs foreign investment to contribute to economic development It creates a policy (potentially linked to a limited geographic area) that provides incentives for foreign investment, often waiving things like taxes, regulations or minimum wage restrictions, and potentially guaranteeing investments Foreign investment starts and due to the cheap labor force, low cost manufacturing plants are created These plants produce relatively low quality goods, through a combination of low-levels of initial investment in the quality of the machinery, low cost low quality raw materials, low quality workmanship due to a largely uneducated workforce Over time the workforce builds a skill base and quality improves Investment results in economic development and benefits to the host country Over time another country sees this economic development benefit and starts it's own process, special waivers may lapse, workers may unionise, etc Assuming there is profit being made then the level of quality is raised such that they differentiate their products from the new competition If they don't want to raise the quality level of production then they move the operation to the new competitor country and start over again Japan was once the poor-quality cheaper competitor to the US, but caught up, China came after Japan, which is what this thread is about, but has long since caught up, many other asian countries came after that, and over the coming decades you will start to hear about African nations getting in on this act as well. This is an interesting list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_technology_centers In terms of the premise of your original multiple choice question, here's a question of my own: The question is inherently racially biased and there is no way to answer it without accepting the premise and is therefore "a trap" The question is inherently logically skewed and there is no way to answer it without accepting the premise and is therefore "a trap" Pick one.

Yeah, it is definitely relative but the weight without the added benefit of image stabilization makes it a little impractical for me. But as you suggested, it’s really 3 primes in one, so the convenience factor is a definite plus. Right now, I’m only looking for the Samyang 24mm 1.4 we’ve spoken about in the past while I sell off a bunch of unneeded glass. Then I’m going to reevaluate what I have left, and what I need based on upcoming projects, including the Samyang and see if there’s anything else I can get rid of... Then... I may look into replacing all of my 28mm lenses with the Nikkor 28mm 1.4. That has been a dream lens of mine but a little too pricey for my meager skills. But if it’s my only 28mm, it may be doable. My ultimate goal is to have a small EF set and then a few of my favorite primes of varying focal lengths with the ultimate goal of 10 lenses or less. I’d love it if I was the type of person that could get by with a Sigma zoom and a prime but I just don’t know how realistic that is.

  37. I will simply leave it at sometimes available light is preferred! Same gig
    1 point
  38. I didn't see anyone saying that lights don't have a place (and a pretty big place) in many situations. I did see someone saying "Whoever believes that a camera that shoots in high iso saves them a proper lighting setup and/or a crew, haven't really understand what is going on. Photography, is "writing of light", not the lack of it." So when you shot live events you ONLY used lights/flash? I have used many cameras for live music for years back to film SLRs and I have always hated using flash on the band. I am fine with using flash to shoot the people who come up to me for their photo at these gigs. Flash/video lights kill the stage light/atmosphere and sometimes, it used to be that the lighting was simply too low for my gear. Now it isn't regardless of how low the light. A7s just means I can shoot at lower light levels. As for IBIS, though I love it (have had five cameras with it), I don't think it has ever been of use for live music for me and neither has IS/OSS/VR. There is a big place for lights/flash and there is a big place for not using it too for me anyway. But I am not lighting it and that same stage varies greatly from very very bright walls of light to extremely dark. My ISOs vary from one extreme to the other in an instant there. It is the best stage I know for bands.
    1 point
  39. Excuse me band, excuse me pub, excuse me patrons but would you mind if I used video lights throughout your song? From time to time someone does bring in a video camera/camcorder with light and it is REALLY annoying (just like using flash every shot). Some venues have great stage lighting too and that is what I would prefer. My ISOs can range from something like ISO 400 to 80,000 with variable stage lighting so it isn't just high ISO. Once in China I met a Tibetan guy who told me the following: In China there are 4 categories of products: the best quality ones go to the government and the military, then there are the things that go to you Western people (he was talking to me), then the things that go to the Chinese and general export and finally the lowest quality things that go to Tibetans, Uygurs, Mongols
