Have you looked into the Z Cam E2? It has a multi-aspect M43 sensor like the GH5s, and it has a S16 crop mode. With a speed booster, you can get full frame or S35, or you can use the crop mode for S16. And it shoots 10 bit 4:2:2 internally. It's $2k for the body, so more budget friendly than an FS7 or URSA. The downside is that it requires an external monitor, though you can use a smartphone for wireless monitoring and control via wifi. I do not have first hand experience with one yet, unfortunately. I can't think of anything else in the price range that can go up to 35mm with a speed booster, and has a dedicated 16mm crop mode, and 4:2:2 10 bit internally. I would stay away from ML for pro work. It was too finicky when I used it extensively on the 5D3. It was a phenomenal image, but I wouldn't be confident in it working 100% of the time (even due to user error, cards filling up too quickly, etc).2 points -

This is a bit too far as a thought. Maybe you didn't need the Z system, but no way a 499$ action cam is similar than any m43/APS-C system. The limitations are simple too many.2 points -

DR Studio has OFX film grain as part of the software ... it is good ... I also have FilmConvert and Red Giant Looks as OFX ... but FC takes twice as long to render ... so I usually use the bundled film grain ... as 35mm grain but I adjust size density and color of the grain. It allows for a bit more realistic look without being simu-film in character. Increases perceived sharpness due to edge effect, masks noise, .... covers a multitude of flaws. Just add as a node ... and vary the intensity to personal preference.1 point

thephoenix reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
For Vimeo, I usually export 2k H265 for projects shot in DCI 4k. That gives the most quality per MB, which is good because you get limited upload space on Vimeo. I'm not sure if you can export H265 in the free version, though. If you wanted 4k, you could export UHD. You'll get small black bars on the top and bottom, but significantly higher resolution than 2k.1 point -

DJI challenging GoPro?
kye reacted to Video Hummus for a topic
I’m pretty positive that is not how it works with moving pictures (or, video) It’s a horizon and framing problem. You want to keep the horizon and angular velocities from changing as much as possible. You don’t have to look at the image data. That’s how stabilizer tank cannon platforms work. Anybody remember the famous leopard tank demonstration with the flask of beer on the end of the barrel? of course doing this process off camera with a faster cpu and multiple passes is going to yield better results. I invite Olympus or whomever to standardized some file format for it and software to take advantage of it. what your are suggesting in post can easily be done with dedicated hardware in camera and in real-time, which is still better than having to do it in post. Yeah that’s basic physics. The farther your focal magnification the more amplified movements become. OIS and EIS can help in both situations. The camera industry would do well to incorporate some features from the action camera market. There is a physical limit to how small a gimbal can be. That is interpolating acceleration and gyro data from the image. Which will always be worse than actually reading and using that data in real-time or in post from dedicated hardware. Yeah, this is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. Now, put the hardware in camera and have dedicated CPU correct the image in real-time and you have your gimbal footage without a gimbal. Also works in low light because you aren’t relying on image data. It is by-far the better method. And what’s is stopping you to do more post stabilization after the fact as well?1 point -
Ah sorry, I misread and didn't want the delay to go under the radar - it's a biggy.1 point

Another thing that no one is taking about is that EIS can be done in post production, but OIS can't. Yes it's great to have stabilised footage coming straight from the camera, but stabilisation in post has the advantage because the camera can't predict the future but plugins or Resolve sure can. I think I'll end up with the X3000 and stabilisation in post. The HDR would be great to have thought. I would have thoughts that anyone on this forum would be evaluating a camera with the whole production and post production work flow in mind. When they go 8K they will have 6K MEGA-AWESOME-NOT-MOVING mode and you can de-fish and downscale to a nice 4K imagery from there.1 point

DJI challenging GoPro?
Robert Collins reacted to Anaconda_ for a topic
The lag on the stabilisation is pretty drastic. It'll be quite frustrating to film anything where framing is important. Skip to 6:30ish for the 'very slight' (around 2 seconds) delay on the panning/movements. while people are talking about the Pocket though, I recently handed one to my wife, who's not really interested in filming anything, and she didn't want to give it back. She said it was too much fun and got all experimental with it, pushing it through gaps in a fence etc. To me, thats exactly how cameras in this market should make someone feel. You can take a quick photo on your phone, but you can really have fun with a tiny accessory. I predict the lag on the Osmo Action will take all the fun out of kind of filming. Just my 2c.1 point -
Any information on how good the HDR is? Someone posted that DJI claims a 3-stop.improvement over the regular video. That's a tall claim. P.S.: Other videos say its more like 1 atop. Hopefully reviewers tests things a lot more.1 point

webrunner5 reacted to gethin for a topic
well whatever you do, you always try and make it as good as possible, but even a year ago you wouldn't have thought about shooting on an action cam. It reminds me of the printing industry 20 years ago. People were going bust all over the place because they were still paying off 100's of thousands of dollars worth of kit, and were being out-competed by startups using kit 1/10th of the cost, quicker and easier to use, and cheaper to run. For $500 aud, I might have to get one, just to see. I could attach it to my current setup and would hardly feel the weight difference!1 point -

Greetings Earth People, This week’s new music tracks are: On my Sci-Fi 7 page: "INVASION!" – They’re heading this way! Run for your life! Aliens? Zombies? Slimy monsters? Something else entirely? https://soundimage.org/sci-fi-7/ On my Funny 6 page: “PARTY GHOULS” - Rockin’ it in their haunted party mansion. This track might be fun in a goofy Halloween-themed game or something like that. https://soundimage.org/funny-6/ And two tracks on my Positive / Upbeat page: "OF SUMMERS GONE BY" – Here’s a high energy 80’s-style piece with a sweet, slightly magical feel that might sound nice in a game, video or perhaps something else. CAREFREE DAYS AT PELICAN SHORES – Carefree and creative…bouncing around town without a worry in the world. Wouldn’t that be great? https://soundimage.org/positive-upbeat/ All are free to use, as always, with attribution. If anyone has kids or younger siblings, I've created a fun environmental learning series that (I hope) will engage them through stories and characters. The organization I made it for uses the films all the time, and I'm sharing them with the rest of the world. Please feel free to check them out and share with friends, parents, teachers or anyone else who might find them helpful. https://soundimage.org/dunes-island/ Keep being creative and have a good weekend!1 point -
The script writing is leagues ahead of GOT! Earth solved the overpopulation problem sending people to space, first in the Mars colony, then the outer belt, but there are political issues in earth as well, it is not the gardem of Eden it used to be, it is not the Star Trek utopia but a deeply flawed place, but the best there is in this system. The first 2 seasons were truly exceptional. 3 was good, some over simplifications (or the exact opposite!) at times but it really hold its narrative. It made sense in the end. Has anyone watched the Nightflyers? George R. R. Martin Material, and in HDR, but is pushing behind in my To Watch list, every week for half a year now! What a dissapointment the Star Trek re-boot is so far. Just another super humans product. The movies and the series just not worthy of the Star Trek name. I have recently finished watching all the TV series, again, so I am 100% sure..1 point

But The Expanse not only depicts "a vast underclass of exploited low class ignorant people". It also talks about Mars, a highly technologically advanced civilization, that once dreamed of transforming Mars into a Earthy like place. We can also see research stations etc. We even see what you describe, or sort of, with the biggest ship ever made, built to send people colonize distant unknown worlds. ; this one was not built to be loaded with "useless" people . "Belters" or colonies as you describe, are, as I see it, only workforce. They live a shit life at the end of the solar system in order to exploit the resources for the others. I don't see them a "settlement", in the way, as you said, the elites could make. I'm not sure that in reality, the elites would hasten to leave a life on Earth to live in mostly "hard to imagine life" places as we can see in the serie. I'll soon start the books, and I can't wait to see how the show differs from it !1 point

As a passionate owner of the first BMPCC, the Micro, and the Pocket 4K, I'd have to say... it's just a different approach. I LOVE much of my Pocket/Micro footage. I mean, LOVE. But... there's plenty of footage from those cameras I DON'T love. Anything without a ton of light, or incredibly fast lenses... the footage is ehh. I mean, that which is even salvageable is ehh. And most of it is not even salvageable. The original cameras are amazing, provided you have tons of light. If not, they're pretty much terrible. The P4K can obviously capture 10x the amount of usable footage that the old ones can. Bright light, low light, no light, it's all good. And yes, the look straight out of the camera, on sharp modern lenses, looks video-ish. Blegh. But then I started using interesting lenses on it, and the magic came right back. If you want "filmic", do NOT shoot the P4K with clinical, modern glass. I am LOVING the combo of the inexpensive Kamlan 25mm F0.95 on the new Pocket. The creaminess and softness of the old Pocket returns (but with more resolution). Add grain in FilmConvert, and I'm back in love. In short... the old cameras had "mojo" from the sensor, but you had to add sharpness and light from the lens. The new cameras have sharpness and light, but you need to add "mojo" with the lenses. I love them all, and am keeping them all1 point

Kisaha reacted to newfoundmass for a topic
It's hard to suggest which one you'd be better off going with without knowing what kind of stuff you're going to be shooting. The Nikon Z6 would probably be better for narrative work, given how powerful it is with an Atomos recorder. The Sony is probably a better choice for documentary and vlogging. It also has the advantage right now with more native glass, though the Z6 with adapter opens you up to Nikon"s massive lens offerings. Do you own a GH5? What about it do you feel limits you? While I know full frame is the craze, I feel like it's way overblown. M43 and APS-C are more than adequate.1 point -
