You can! Step 1: apply the plugin Step 2: select the "Show Mask" box under Skin Mask Step 3: connect another node like this, then apply adjustments in the second node: As you can see it's not perfect, but this is probably a bad example and I didn't try at all to refine it, and there are lots of mask refinement adjustments in the Face Refinement plugin. Bonus Tip: you can do this with any node that has a "show mask" feature. I've done it with the EdgeDetect plugin, for example to soften only particularly harsh edges, etc. Lots of potential using this method to get highly stylised effects that no single plugin can do by itself.3 points

Yes I agree. Truly a great camera, and I maintain all the good and long things I wrote about it some months ago. I'm just sad and annoyed to have to get rid of it because of $$ reasons... The 24-70 f4 alone is a sufficient reason to jump on the ship. Well, being soon camera less, I will have lots of great choices when I will have enough money again to find a new camera.1 point

Okay, but real tungsten has a smoother spectral curve than fake tungsten. I seem to recall hearing that some folks were buying off-brand replacement bulbs and double-ended bulbs for hardware store, quartz work lights. They were putting these sub par bulbs into production fixtures with double-ended sockets (Totas, Nook lights, various zip lights, Colortran Multis, etc.), and the bulbs were slightly shorter than the standard bulbs. Perhaps someone in your organization purchased a batch of such bulbs, and that is what caused the buzzing/arcing on multiple fixtures. I have never seen such problems, but I have always used brand-name bulbs in my fixtures. What? No. As I said above, a popped quartz bulb has nothing to do with the fixture -- someone likely touched the bulb without cleaning it, or the bulb could have been defective. Don't blame the Totas. No. If anything, it's another strike against the relatively pathetic output and power density of LED fixtures. The tungsten Totas are fine. Actually, the LED Tota is probably also fine -- it just gives less output (and is undoubtedly more expensive) than a tungsten Tota.1 point

The Resolve / Colour Grading resource thread

Wow! I made a rather halfarsed attempt to do this one time and failed. I will definiera give this another try. Thank you!1 point -
well i am sitting down but the only coffee worth drinking is this stuff ? ordered a cheap set of neutral density and graduated filters to play with, the aussie sun needs some calming down so to speak . Once i figure out what i tend to use most often I'll spring for something more pricey. Can anyone comment on best practices for videoing a sunset ? I have also created a youtube channel in anticipation. it should be a pretty laid back affair nothing too serious using the bmp4k and the elmoscope. i'm no casey neistat but i'm hoping the anamorphic angle gives it a bit of difference. been looking at the filter sizes on my pentax m42 lenses trying to figure out a common size for the m42 to elmoscope adapter. at the moment i'm getting some grub screws/bolts machined into the old mount the will attach to the piece of alloy i got cut on the waterjet that will support and secure the elmoscope to the smallrig. the machinist reckons theres no problem cutting the fine threads that the lenses use. i do think i need some kinda short barrel with a sleeve in it to alloy the elmoscope optics to align properly once it is screwed together. I hope to have it back by next friday, i can take some pics. I should also be able to wrap a bit of tape around them both and do a bit of shooting anamorphically. till i figure out a thread size for the adapter.1 point

I don’t know the differences... I don’t believe there is a functional difference from an operationally standpoint. I think BRAW looks really good - the issue for me is that Cinema DNG gives you more/different controls over the image/highlights in post than BRAW. I believe this is due to the fact the BRAW de-mosaic filters in the camera so the highlight are more baked in than with Cinema DNG, which gives you more control over the highlights durning de-mosaic process in Resolve. The answer is IMHO for Blackmagic to give the end user back control of these image control options in camera. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than what have moving forward with only BRAW. This is kind of like how Sony gives you SLOG2 and SLOG3 as a choice and each have a different highlight knee. I would like BRAW to have a user controlable in camera highlight knee control or highlight control slider as part of the de-mosaic BRAW processing. An alternative way to do this is to have the pre-BRAW de-mosaic encoding controls settings as a metadata side car paired with each BRAW LUT tm. You could the highlight response setting of a BRAW file paired with a BRAW LUT that anticipates/incorporates that highlight curve/roll off and other image control settings. There setting are shown in camera and allow the user is allowed to tweet than so that the could also save them as a side car to use with their own BRAW LUTS.1 point

DJI action cam vs z6
webrunner5 reacted to gethin for a topic
I just saw some footage from DJI's new action cam. HDR video! WTF? Sometimes I wonder why I dropped $5K on a camera setup when I could just shoot my real estate vids on an action cam, and most people wouldn't notice the difference. I just bought the 14-30 lens for my z6, and I'll buy the mozo aircross 2 to replace my ronin-s when it comes out, because 3.6kg of camera setup is killing me. But to think someone could just buy this and a wee gimbal, or the pocket osmo, and even begin to compete is head scratching.1 point -

It would be nice, and it would be a long time coming too. Unfortunately I can't wait for that because I have a trip in mid-September that I need it for, so in a way I hope I don't buy an X3000 just before they release the updated model, but anyway. In case anyone isn't familiar with EIS vs OIS in low-light, here's why EIS is fundamentally flawed when the sun goes down... (link goes to the specific time in the video) Also, the X3000 seems to have more DR than the others and has the higher bitrate 100Mbps so the files are less brittle in post.... (link to specific time in video) I'd love to see a direct comparison video between the Hero 7 (with current firmware) vs Osmo Action vs Sony X3000, but because the Sony is old it seems to no longer get included. My logic is that if the Osmo Action isn't clearly better IQ than the GoPro, and the X3000 has some serious advantages over the GoPro then the X3000 is still a very strong contender. If you shoot low-light or want to use it more like a normal camera then it's still in first place, especially with things like a tripod mount, 3.5mm mic port, etc.1 point

Speaking of CinemaDNG and the Pocket 4k... Can't you just rollback the firmware if you want CinemaDNG on the Pocket 4K? NOT if you have the latest hardware revision with the new LCD screen. If you recently purchased a Pocket 4k and it came with 6.2.1 factory installed then you will not be able to rollback the firmware to 6.1 to get CinemaDNG. I purchased mine new just over a month ago. It came with 6.2.1. I was not able to roll back the firmware. I spoke with Blackmagic and they said that they have switched to a new LCD screen, which is only compatible with 6.2.1 (and higher). If you have the new LCD BRAW only Pocket 4k you will get a message that says your firmware is up to date. I did when I tried to install 5.2 or 6.1. Blackmagic also said that if I were to "force it" (whatever that means?) to go back to 6.1, I could brick the camera. Why does it matter? For many it won't, but for some who want the CinemaDNG's highlight control available in the Camera RAW tab on Resolve that is not offered with BRAW, this will be an issue. Also, for those who want a higher resolution image compared to BRAW, CinemaDNG was a good option.1 point

DJI Announcing Something New On The 28th
webrunner5 reacted to Kisaha for a topic
I already bought the Insta X 360. I really found it a lot more useful than any existing small sensored action cam/small cam - and they are that also. The stabilization is incredible (from 5.7K to 4K) and you can match it alright with normal footage in Premiere (do not know about Resolve, never tried) with the free GoPro/Kolorpano plug ins. The low light performance is terrible though, can't use it after dark and I do not like to mix small sensored footage with bigger one. Ricoh has a new 1" one with better low light performance In a couple of year, when 8K will be normal, and someone put a few m43 sensors there, they could literally replace normal cameras for a lot of uses.1 point -
Lighting Recommendation?
tupp reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
I've honestly liked the look from decent LEDs as much or better than tungstens in my uses. Yeah, it's bizarre. I did equipment checkout for a few semesters, and I had an entire shelf of totas with problems. Maybe someone before me had methodically ruined each one? That and the exploding one really put me off totas. Oh wow, that's disappointing. Another strike for totas, I guess.1 point -

I will say the classic BM cams have more of a "romantic" look straight out of the camera. To use guitar amp terminology, the BMPCC4K is more of a "transparent" image, clean and detailed, that you can put any look you want on after the fact. With the OG Pocket/Micro, you have one choice - "that look"... but damn, that look is sexy as hell, and I'll love it forever By the way, as a fanboy note, I've enjoyed your videos for years, you're my favorite camera reviewer!1 point -
