@kye Ive actually considered picking up the Canon FD 200mm F4. I own an FD 135mm F2.8 and its pretty good, just not long enough for sports. Also the Canon FD 300mm F4 is on my radar. If you work on a team of shooters its more doable, like with NFL films they might have a guy manually focusing a 500, 600mm, or 800mm Prime from the sidelines. But yes sports videography is alot easier with good autofocus - my latest edit with footage I shot for the ncaa was all autofocus - A6300 + 70 300mm FE a combo ive used since summer 2016 Shooting sports at night with less contrast = focus peaking is almost useless Camcorders make sports a lotttttt easier, you can hookup a lanc controller to just about any camcorder and with that you can get remote rec, zoom, and focus(That's what I had with my Sony Z90), if you get a fancy one there are controllers with custom buttons for things like exposure. Honestly the best pocket rig is a GX80 with a pancake lens. Easily fits in the pocket, has IBIS so the footage is perfectly smooth, shoots great 4k video.

No heavy crop at all! The crop I believe is the typical canon EOS M crop x1.61. My Sigma 18-35mm looks really wide and with a Viltrox 0.71x speed booster, I can use between 24-35mm F1.2.

Probably somewhere between far better than you expected it to be and far worse than you'd like it to be ? Look at that battery life though and thats with having physical moving parts in it as well ! I can not imagine trying to shoot sports video with prime lenses or even manual focus zooms. Easy with still photography (I would much rather a fast manual focus lens on a good low light camera than the latest greatest not so good low light and/or slow lens for stills) but for video? I think I would need/rather something like a decent AF point and shoot with a long lens for that (and just realise evening sports will suck). For pro use it would be more. That said, I have never really tried to video sports (just an old amateur but have had sports shots in a national greyhound racing paper and football shots in a decent size daily newspaper). Shot with my long dead A7s (may it rest in pieces) and my old Tamron 300 2.8 MF adaptall lens (that has followed me for decades between systems).

Thanks, Mercer, the Eos m raw can really shine if the RAW is manipulated properly, i'm still learning anyway. I'm really impressed with the bmpcc original as well. The proress HQ looks very close to RAW, and the RAW, when upscaled to 4K resolution in Davinci Resolve, looks quite close to the BMPCC 4K. Cheers!

There are lots of tiny cameras that can deliver professional or semi-professional images, but they still stop short of being an all-in-one solution that offers acceptable image quality, stabilisation, and audio quality. For this we still need a rig of some kind. This thread is about creating hand-held rigs that deliver: Good to very good image quality Sufficient stabilisation for hand-holding (movement is fine, but it can't be too jittery) Good to very good sound quality that is directional (or at least separates the subject from the background) Fits in a pocket Minimal time to start recording (have little to no setup time) I'm building a rig around my new Sony X3000, but this thread could easily apply to anyone using a GoPro, DJI Osmo Action, or RX0, would also extend to point-and-shoot cameras, and even the smallest mirrorless cameras if the lens they choose is small enough (lots of pancake lenses would be borderline pocketable). These might be an A-cam rig for vloggers, travel film-makers, backpackers, minimalists, or (like me) a B-cam setup for use in conjunction with a larger more complicated rig. We've touched on these topics before, @Don Kotlos shared this great (borderline pocketable) example: I mucked around with my GF3 (which lacks the required audio quality, or image quality): and people are out there taking tiny cameras and making rigs that are 10x the size of the camera: I'm still waiting for items to arrive, but I'm starting with the X3000, Rode Videomicro, an ebay microphone windsock which will help with wind noise but will also be a shock-mount, but have more bits on order, so updates to follow. Game-changing could also be a large amount of incremental improvements that result in one very amazing camera. - The low light of the A7sII (or S1) - Codecs of the BMPCC4K (or equivalent) - Usability of the GH5/S1 - 14+ stops dynamic range with full V-Log (EVA-1/Varicam dynamic range) - IBIS of S1/GH5 - Internal NDs (never been done on something this small/compact - so pretty game changing) - 3-4 channel audio and great pre-amps - Timecode - 120fps+ in 4K, 24 And maybe a couple of other surprises. that would do it in my mind to be game-changing...

Incremental improvements are not "game changing." However, a marketing department accurately representing how much better the new product is would also be game changing. I guess it's kind of a double or nothing statement.

If "raw" is the game changer, then it needs to be internal... scratch that... I doubt raw is considered a game changer in 2019? This has to be about the sensor. I'm gonna say it... I'm probably wrong, but I think this is going to sport their organic sensor... or some variation of that sensor. Slow-mo is cool, but not "game changing". Raw is nice to have as an option, but again not "game changing". Internal NDs are convenient, but certainly not "game changing". And that organic sensor is well overdue.

No AF, but what about using a B mount lens on a m4/3 camera. The ENG 2/3" 2x lenses are cheap as heck, and they are All parfocal. You can buy 10,000 Dollar lenses for 200 Dollars. And some of them are 20x. And they have a constant, fast aperture. Well still pretty fast when you consider the doubler. Still under f4.0 The big Box Lenses can go 80x! The best trick I have found for using long Telephoto lenses for Photography is to use your Video Fluid Head with them. Works amazingly well. I gave up using my Swing Gimbal a long time ago. I can't say a swing gimbal is useless, for certain things I have used it. Nice for just up and down stuff, but..

Agreed. Very happy rumors point to it NOT having 8K. Unnecessary for another 3-5 years, I'd think for a camera at this level. Instead, they need to focus on making our 4K workflows easier and even better: internal NDs, compressed raw, other great codecs ("streaming service and broadcast approved"), still compact enough to use on handheld gimbals, timecode... etc. If it can offer those things and make my EVA-1 unnecessary, then a bit bigger than the S1 is perfect.

I'm hoping the game changer is not 8k. I personally own no 8k monitors or TVs, so no advantage there for me. Higher CPU demands and storage requirements will slow work in post.

I feel like if they included 4k60p it would have sold a hell of a lot more. I for sure would have bought one to replace my walk about camera. I'm still kind of hoping it'll be in a firmware update, in the same way 4K was in an update for the XPro 2. I'm loving mine too, and it's so easy to pass to someone with no prior experience of cameras without overwhelming them even a little bit. The only downfall for me is the price of the audio input jack. I'm refusing to buy one for now, hoping someone will make a 3rd party version that works. Of course, DJI couldn't care less about my protest and the only person it's affecting is myself... So not sure how much longer I'm willing to fight.

I had that confusion at first too. The other part of the puzzle is the Linked Selection toggle switch in the toolbar: It's the one in the middle with the two chain links. If you have two linked clips and that toggle is on then clicking on one will select both, but (what I think you might have done) is to untoggle that option and even if the clips are linked you will now only select or move one of the linked clips and not both.

Fujinon ZK 85-300mm T2.9-4.0 with the Servo Motor would be just amazing, However at $32,000 + tax - a man can dream.

Nice pics! In a sense, I can't imagine shooting sports with MF either. I do it, but it's about the situation you're in. I do it for myself, I only make highlights videos so 'coverage' isn't a thing I have to worry about, and so basically I just try my best and whatever works is great, and shots that I miss are no big deal. I also kind of have an advantage shooting things so far away (our fields are >100m long) that DoF is pretty deep just because of the distance. If I was rich I think I'd have a fancy parfocal zoom, but actually I'm doing ok with what I have. I used the zoom function on the lens far more than I thought I would, even on the first outing, so that's encouraging. Considering it's so low res and has such a small sensor, pick up almost any camera, put on an all-in-one zoom on it, then in post make sure you over-sharpen, add contrast until you're clipping shadows and highlights, then export at low bitrate 480p (or 360p) and it'll look just like the real thing!

I agree. I have been toying with buying one of the Panasonic S1 or S1R to complement my GH5s cameras. Each time that I have about convinced myself to buy the body and new lenses, I think about the A7III or the A7RIII, all of the Sony lenses, and the potential for the A7SIII (some day...). Sony certainly has a stronger ecosystem than the other mirrorless camera makers. Heck, Sony even makes the sensor for some of their competitors. There are many things that I don't like about the Sony cameras (the color, 30min limits on video, etc.) but they are certainly the leader and probably will be for a long time. If you are considering a 5-10 yr horizon, Sony is a good bet.

The Chinese can have whatever Industrial Revolution they want. The problem with the “Chinese tech revolution” is their revolution involves stealing technology from the West.

I'll come back with more detail when I've got a bit more time but the one that ticks all the boxes is the Sony A6500. APS-C, IBIS, Log, EVF, Mic input and the rangefinder style makes it more compact than the SLR styling and therefore pocketable. Lens wise, the cheap Sigma primes for it are tiny and way better than they have a right to be. The fast native and M mount Voigtlanders and 7Artisans are also very compact. Its not a well loved camera (I say that as an owner of one as well!) but it does a hell of a lot in a small package. If you can get the stabilisation to come from your lenses then I'd have the OG Blackmagic Pocket in there as well but its tricky getting a fast one with OS. In terms of utility for a pure travel camera then I'd have to say that after using it for the past week in that role, the Osmo Pocket is a standout product.

I've got a nightmare of a setup (but really, I can't complain) 7D Mark II EOS R C100 (Mark 1) Vixia GX10 These profiles are fantastic - namely, because Canon Cinema 4 seems to match quite closely to the Wide DR setting on the C100 (as well as the GX10). I can now shoot four cameras on Wide DR and have matchable footage.

tbh, thats ~vintage~ michael bay tons of shots, tons of angles, etc. it does show a lot of style you have to find things that you admire in order to emulate them. find something that you like, and post it, maybe that would help

Yeah the main takeaway in Northrup video, and I agree, is that it is no secret that cameras companies make their money off of lenses. And there as of now is not enough people that is going to buy Canon, Nikon Mirrorless cameras to justify making 5 models of them. So they are depending on DSLR sales and lens buyers to make the real profit. The problem is that is going to hell also. Sony was smarter than they look by dumping the A line DSLR cameras years ago. And they pretty much only have 1 mount for all their stuff. They are in a great position compared to a lot of others.

Detail holding up very well from such a high resolution pixel binning sensor. The 5 axis IBIS has a lot of jitter and doesn't seem to be working to stop rotational jitter, but then it is shot by a talentless idiot. A well worn Tony thing is whenever he doesn't get invited with his fellow diva children of the camera press to a nice jaunt / holiday, he goes off on one of his rants making sure he name checks the company who smited the chosen one. The biggest names Fuji chose for the trip were Johnnie B and Gordon L, those well known celebrities of the camera kingdom.... Who will sit on the throne at the end? It's a fight to the death and there is only room for one ego in the YouTube camera review community.

New setup went well today. I'm not sure I would change anything, at least based on todays shoot. The worst part about the shoot today was that I forgot to take my hat! The setup consists of: GH5 Rode VMP+ Sun 70-210 f3.8 lens (sample images to come) cheap ebay monopod (modified with the head removed) The mic is mounted on the side and forward which pushes the camera back from the monopod allowing easy access to the viewfinder. It's a cheap ebay flash adapter like below, with the camera QR plate on one end, a cold shoe adapter on the other for the mic, and the monopod in the centre mount: The tripod is modified with the head completely removed and a screw installed in the 'cap' that used to support the head. It's not quite straight but, oh well, whatever! The screw is actually the screw part from one of these, which I used epoxy glue to hold in place, and the flat part meant for the cold shoe provides a strong connection for the whole thing. I still have a niggling want for a lens longer than 200mm, maybe a 100-400 zoom, but there don't seem to be any cheap fully manual ones around. The players at the other end of the field are pretty small in the frame even at 210mm (420mm equivalent).

@Andrew Reid your 3.5K Magic Lantern Raw Guide is excellent. It’s well written and easy to understand. Although the 3.5K is pretty amazing, I’m most impressed with the 1080p 14bit lossless! Not only are the smaller, file sizes a Godsend, it seems the image is sharper and cleaner in the shadows than uncompressed 14bit! Is this just in my head? Thanks for supplying these guides, I don’t think you get enough credit for them... they’re priceless!!!

sparkies are one of the hardest trade skills to get into. I was lucky when I was very young I was a Ham Radio operator just like my father. That opened up a lot of opportunities when I was a lot older. Top pay for a reason, it is dangerous as heck, especially if you are not really good at it, or get lazy. No real room for errors.

Viltrox EF-M2 is optically identical to the Metabones in center of the shot, corners are a bit blurry. However is that worth the difference? If I was shooting a movie for the cinema, I wouldn't skimp on that, but as I'm mostly shooting for youtube and web delivery, there's no way anyone can see the difference and none of my clients ever commented on that. I have it, I had zero issues with it and I think it's worth the price.

Aren't we simultaneously having two conversations? The P4K is way too sharp!!! 4K and modern cameras aren't cinematic, the Alexa / older BM cameras are all lower res and have magic. The P4K is way too soft!!!! BRAW is clearly inferior because it smooths fine detail. Not to mention conversations in other threads that also include: Who needs 4K - 1080 is fine and you can't tell the difference and ...... blah blah blah 8K!!!!!! OMFG!!!!! ??

This is not what noise looks like from the ADC. This is not natural and its not the finest details captured, its MORE. The information is made up in the debayer. I know it is. People also seem to think cDNG has no processing before the file is stored in camera but cDNG is subject to calibration (which attempts to reduce noise and other issues) and other processing before those "RAW" pixels are stored as DNG also. Its okay to like it more too. Doesn't mean its the same process or the same thing. An OLPF can look similar to Gaussian Blur too. I get some people prefer cDNG, that's totally fine. But some people are acting like the image was faultless, which it certainly was not. And when there are incorrect statements made as fact, I will try to correct when I'm able to (IP and other concerns restricts my public involvement). The decisions made over a 2 year process developing Blackmagic RAW were not arbitrary or taken lightly either.

Ignoring the made up numbers here, in terms of debayer quality the method for cDNG is much older as not anywhere near as good as Blackmagic RAW. I see a lot of people mistake the artefacts of the DNG debayer as sharpness. Its not that the cDNG debayer is necessarily keeping more details, but it IS creating false detail. An interesting comparison was just posted here that's worth looking at : https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&p=510320#p510320 Especially this image - what you're seeing on the DNG is not real information the DNG retained, it's CREATING it (falsely) and it can look like sharpness/detail when it's over areas of real detail, but it's a very "hard" and digital feeling look IMHO : But also pay really close attention to the resolution image at the above link. You can see on the right hand side the artefacts between the red and yellow resolution lines and around the edges of the circle. These artefacts are not real detail or sharpness that you lose with Blackmagic RAW, they are created in error. Something to consider as well is we get a lot of feedback from customers that 4.6K Blackmagic RAW still has more resolution than some "other" cameras 8K RAW images - likely because of strong optical low pass filtering that without could produce similar artefacts as shown in DNG. The highlights and shadows sliders in cDNG are NOT debayering RAW controls and work on debayered data only. They are the exact same (mathematically) as the ones in the primaries tab and work exactly the same on Blackmagic RAW as the DNG RAW tab ones. I demonstrated this for someone on Facebook last year..

Hey everyone. I am picking up a P4K next week and I am using the Sigma1.8 Zooms. I plan on using the glass full manual, but the aperture is controlled electronically. I really do not want to spend 650$ on a Metabones, as I am never using the AF, but still need the electronic connects. What does everyone recommend?
