I know there has been question of Z-cam's usability professionally. Pretty cool to see it being used on a "hollywood" show. Looks like they are putting them to good use. Would be a good camera for that iconic matrix shot ?2 points -
watching utube pretty much every one uses the mini muffin trays to cast lead ingots or alloy ingots. I think the king or random started it, but i ran with the herd anyway ? and it has been quite a learning experience. It seems like i have an interesting assortment of things that i want to do to tick of my bucket list ? i have an area set aside about 100 meters from the house for experiments and i'm pretty keen to keep them both separated don't worry about that2 points

been a busy week. Got the tripod base cutout got two made. One has holes in it, the other is blank. got some ideas about milling out the perspex base i had made earlier and inserting the tripod base into it, kinda still at the ideas stage with it at the moment. I also picked up the last part for the anamorphic adapter. its kinda like a step up ring but more substantial it will take the weight of the anamorphic, but i do plan on using support anyway. Had the pentax m42 85mm 1.9 attached. I think its 58mm thread size. alignment was a little bit off when tightened up, thought about it for a bit then applied a rubber band to the rear of the anamorphic right where the threads end and put it all together tightens up quite nicely, seems to work as a temporary fix for now. This afternoon i found out i can melt lead and quite easily it seems. I used my gopro4 with a letus anamorphic lens attached, filmed some and then timelapsed the rest, yet to import it into resolve and have play with it. Hopefully its a little bit interesting. Had a lamb born about lunch time today, mom brought it up this afternoon, canon 60 d m42 50mm 1.4 lens. So there is a bit of a mix picture wise. enjoy2 points

Why is Canon SO Frustrating?!
Mako Sports reacted to wolf33d for a topic
What are you talking about? We all miss this quality tremendously. It's such a beauty I can't wait to get one again. I mean look at this color science mojo! It almost beats an iPhone 5!!! Joke apart I am the first one to wish for a great Canon mirrorless. I am loyal to no brand and just pick the best tool for the job when needed. The mix of outdated tech, old management and cine line protection will prevent that for a while unfortunately.1 point -
I haven't commented on this as I wanted to give it time to pan out but I had a search on YouTube for "Sony vs Fujifilm colour" and no other video creators have found it necessary to manipulate the thumbnail in this way to "get around the algorithm" and all of them seem to have done OK in terms of the number of views. I get trying to game the system @MaxYuryev if you feel you've been hard done by but do you not think by doing something so deliberately disingenuous as this you've now become part of the problem rather than the solution? What I'm really struggling to understand though is why it remains uncorrected this long after it has been pointed out and this long after you've admitted the deliberate deception. I'm afraid you can't hide behind the algorithm for that one and for what its worth, from my own personal point of view, whatever benefit of the doubt I'd given you for an aberration born of a sense of injustice and you at least having the honesty to admit to it, has evaporated by you not remedying it when you've had the opportunity.1 point

Well my 24-70 2.8G and old Nikon 70-200 2.8G both Autofocus well on my cam. Smoother focus transitions and follow better than the NX1 but not quite on par with the Sony A7III. I'm sure that the native lenses are better. AF motors on these a bit loud however, need to be used with an external mic. It's a dream to shoot my Voigtlanders on it, so clean. Video to come.1 point -

You mean you don't like the very stylish red strapped version of this one ? The AppleWatch is something I've considered (as well as the Android equivalents when I made the app) but, in all honesty, my conclusion was that its overkill for this task in terms of complexity and certainly in terms of cost. The advantage with this (apart from it only being €60) is that you can attach it to a tripod or gimbal far easier than a watch and the expansion port offers us more possibility to extend what it can control. It'll make more sense when you see one of the expansion units. You mean you would like to lock out controls from being able to be operated from the camera itself ?1 point

Why is Canon SO Frustrating?!
kye reacted to webrunner5 for a topic
Well I think it might be the best thing going for the money, but the big drawback is that the camera has a 1.6 crop factor to start with, but in 4K it adds on another 1.7 crop, and you loose DPAF. Damn near impossible to go really wide on one. So if you can live with those constants it is a really nice camera. You can put a Speedbooster on it and get it up to near FF size. So that is a plus. I have to admit I have been looking at maybe buying one myself. At my age I Need the EVF over the rear LCD on the EOS M I have. Still trying to figure out the ML part. ? I am not too sure Any of the normal Canon cameras have a Cinematic look to them without ML other than the 1DC to be honest. And I wouldn't call the C line cameras normal so... BMD seems to be the only cheap cameras that have a Cine look to them as far as I am concerned. Sure old Cine cameras like a Sony PMW F3, C100 do, but they are not so hot for what is in now. Run n Gun stuff. The Sony F3 is Terrible hand held. Stripped down the C100 is really not too bad.1 point -

Blind Color Science Test

How naive can some people get? Max is on a PR mission, he's not here to actually contribute to a forum. The PR mission is only necessary as he's been outed faking a shot to make Fuji look greener than Kermit The Frog. If it wasn't for that, he wouldn't be here. Max exists for clicks and to make money, and if he can use the research and knowledge of other people for free to further his content along the way then he's all the richer for it.1 point -
I think the GFX100 sensor isn't really designed to handle video as it's highest priority (if it was, it probably wouldn't be 100MP), but stills. And still it seems it's a great option for those looking to go beyond full frame and try something special. That the GFX100 does 10bit internal at bitrates of up to 400Mbit puts it up there with some of the best full frame cameras, while reading over 50MP. That's some crazy stuff. 50MP at 30 frames a second, that's 1500MP read and processed every second (adc drop precision to do it and that decreases processing power needed, it's still immense though.)1 point

Lectrosonics SSM or Zaxcom ZMT3 ? However most wedding videographers seem to have absolutely no budget whatsoever for audio... :-/ So, Tascam DR10L? That is only stupid because he is holding the boom mic why to high, the boom pole on an angle (don't! Be level), and is off axis. So much fail by the boom op in one photo.1 point -
Panasonic vs Canon Autofocus

Both company's have come a Long ways. Pretty amazing how the price difference is between the two of them, with close to the same results. The new Venice CS is pretty damn good now, and both are doing great with eye focus. Magic times we live in to have that kind of choice for so little money with the A6400.1 point -

Deciding between X-H1 and X-T3
webrunner5 reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
I have all 3. The Fringer has the fastest AF. In stills mode that is. The Kipon is an excellent speed booster, but the AF is not currently up there with the Fringer. Viltrox is cheap, but AF ranks third. None are really usable in video mode for autofocus, they don't track well or do AF-C quickly. AF-S is fine.1 point -

If that was a real wedding... ? The goal is to be as least intrusive as possible for weddings. I barely want them to know I'm there for the actual I Do's.1 point -
I only had the camera for a few hours, and did not have other cameras handy to compare it to (aside from the X-T3, which has excellent readout speed). I'll get full numbers eventually, but it seemed quite similar to a Sony a6400. This IBIS system helps control some of those micro-wobbles, but it's not a camera I'd use for fast paced handheld work. I certainly wouldn't find it "unusable" for quite a few types of shoots. Nor, however, would I make this my primary video camera.1 point

Why is Canon SO Frustrating?!

Here's another good example of why it's worth chasing the film look with your choice of video gear... Top shot is Canon 1D C, which ultimately thrashes the 6D Mark II Below is the Samsung NX1, which looks a lot more digital Then again, NX1 can be fixed, graded, hacked, to look amazing. With a 6D Mark II, you are relying much more on the lighting, subjects, lenses, etc. All important, but it HAS to have remarkable material in front of it to look cinematic, whereas with a great camera you can make the ordinary look cinematic, and the good material even better.1 point -
Why is Canon SO Frustrating?!
jbCinC_12 reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
6D Mark II is not cinema for me. There is a 1080p frame grab, look at it full screen and it screams digital. Lack of dynamic range, mushy codec, in many ways a step back from even the old 6D. Terrible detail that doesn't pop. Now compare to an X-T3 frame I pulled from Vimeo... World of difference. Details pops, three dimensionally, film like dynamic range and colour. Even if you don't care about 4K delivery, it's a world of difference between a shitty Canon DSLR and a top of the range 2019 mirrorless camera.1 point -
I will try that. I checked the source files and it’s not an error in the actual file so it must be something with the encoding screwed up. I came across a thread or two of hardware affecting exporting in resolve with artificers and other weirdness. Maybe this is it? Surely not. I’ll do as you suggest and report back!1 point

okay looks like the social media guy I report posted my footage - Everything that's ground level was shot by me with the FS5. This was a big game for our team, have had a rough year and the head coach was fired a week before this game. So this was our biggest win of the season.1 point -
Do you think it's a matter of getting used to the FS5 though? Each camera has its challenges that we have to work out how to overcome, so maybe it's just the devil you know...?1 point

It depends on the cave wouldn't it? If it was a tourist cave then that stuff would already be managed, etc, and you'd be renting it out essentially, or using it on a day that it wasn't in use.1 point

Blind Color Science Test
Mako Sports reacted to kye for a topic
You're welcome! Video is tricky and colour and colour science is especially tricky because it's a very very deep subject. The main levels I see in colour are: Use camera on full-auto in standard colour profile, don't adjust in post Dial in a profile to get the results you want in-camera, maybe using a grey-card and maybe not Shoot log using a grey-card and grade in post using LUTs and basic adjustments Grade manually without relying on LUTs to do the work Professional colourists I also hang out on liftgammagain.com which is aimed at professional colourists and in many ways the gap in skill level and knowledge between 3 and 5 (or even 4 and 5) is larger than the gap between 1 and 3. If you're curious to have a tiny taste of what a professional colourist skill level might be like, check out Juan Melara on YT. It's a fundamentally different kind of skill level. Here's a couple of videos to get you started: In talking to the professional colourists I've come to understand that the world of Hollywood and the real pros has basically no overlap with the YT world - if all you know is YT then you've never seen a glimpse of how that other world works, with the only exception I know of being Juan Melara. I'm happy to point you to other resources where pros hang out if you're curious. In this sense I appreciate that you're torn between people that haven't got a clue how little they know and probably complain about anything resembling work, and those with more knowledge criticising you for not catering to a more informed audience.1 point -
Blind Color Science Test

Haha, I would say your more of an "internet celebrity" than I am I've been following your site for a very long time. Thanks for the great content. I did join to reply to some of the posts on this thread and answer some questions as they come up. I usually try to do this if I see my videos shared on sites. I might post a bit from time to time but I can't spend too much time on forums/groups since I already work way too much. Unlike a lot of photography/video YouTubers I still make a majority of my income from actual video work and I don't intent on become a "full-time YouTube" since I find it weird to teach about cameras when the only time you use them is to make a youtube video. I actually just hired another employee to take the load off of editing so I can get to shoot more and work a little less. Yea Youtube is horrible lately. They keep tweaking the algorithms and forcing channels to change or die. You may have noticed may channels that are around the million mark who used to consistently get hundreds of thousands of view per video and now they are getting less than I am. Google is pushing creators to have to clickbait and make dumb choices or find a new career. Thats especially tough for those that have employees that rely on the income to feed their families. A single tweak of the algorithm and a lot of your old great content is no longer suggested or you're clickthrough rate is low in the first hour you post and then the video is basically shadow banned.. I'm doing my very best to create thumbnails and titles that are "clickable" but not clickbait.. The original thumbnail for this video was the two cameras and I thought it was sweet but I guess it didn't get enough views and the video started dying out so I had to change it up, and the side by side shot was just too similar to stand out when in the suggested section so I had to boost it up. This video didn't take too long, but I've had some that were a full week of 8+ hour days to make and in those cases it really sucks when you make a really good helpful video and almost no one sees it, even though you know that it would be helpful for so many people. Now that YouTube filters out videos even in your subscriber feed you can put out a few videos and they won't even show up to most of your subscribers... Thanks for being Kind Kye! I wen't back and fourth on the best way to do this, and settled on somewhere in the middle (using factory presets) using proper custom white balance would be the best but I know a lot of shooters don't do this because they are beginners or they don't want to (or they are shooting run n gun, like I am when shooting weddings) If someone isn't willing to tweak colors in post they will likely not want to custom WB. It's funny I was actually criticized by multiple people on using WB presets and was told the proper way to do it was to use auto white balance. This forums is full of much more advanced shooters and whereas Youtube has a very wide audience so I often have to choose a middle ground. I'm sorry you feel this way. My tests, comparisons, and reviews are definitely not perfect but I do try hard to keep them accurate while being reasonable in time and target audience. I have my preferences but try to keep my biases out and let people know when its my opinion and why. What tests did you not like and what is Toxic? I'd love to get specific feedback. A lot of my complaints and harsh judgements about cameras have often matched to with Andrews. Actually I did share Pro Color with quite a few people and mentioned your site in multiple vids, I've just stayed way too busy the last few years growing my business and my family (3 kids now) so I haven't been able to spend as much time visiting sites or even watching as much other content creators videos as I used to. I'm also a bit anti-social like many people who are driven to start sites online of Youtube channels, and I'm terrible at reaching out and collaborating with other creators since I feel like I'll just be a nuisance or I'll be asking for favors which I hate doing. Anyways, I'll keep doing what I enjoy doing and will keep improving my skills and YT videos whilst trying to provide the most value I can to a large audience of all kinds of video shooters.1 point -
