  1. Some footage from Z6. Portrait Profile Sharpening -3 Mid-range sharpening -1 Contrast -2.5 On the format topic, all I really wish for is 10-bit 4:2:2. Internal raw is overkill for my needs. If I'm shooting raw I'm going to be on a set and need monitor anyway, far cheaper to record to SSD in that situation than XQD

    GH5 to Alexa Conversion

Wanted to try out my new Simmod variable nd for times I dont want to keep changing my firecrest Nd's. Seems to work pretty well after messing with the WB shift in camera to get rid of the green tint. Im starting to love using the GH5 with this Lut. I'v never had a camera produce such great colours with minimal effort.

  8. I found a used version of a camera that I already own today for £200. I really didn't know the score about whether that makes mine eligible but I doubt it so I passed. You'll be pleased to know I managed to park my inherent devious tendencies out of respect for the spirit of the competition and DIDN'T do a deal with the shop to buy it and return it 10 seconds later with a 10% handling charge so I'd have a receipt for one and then use my own!

  9. Because he's going to have to hand his camera to somebody? Only kidding, sure you won't be I like the suggestion by the way from BTM that the winner of the vote should shoot something with the last place person's camera when he receives it. I have another suggestion... maybe they hand it back to the poor guy someday later so they feel at least a bit less bad?! And I would like the winner to perhaps pass on some shooting tips to them, in a little letter when they return it. What do you guys think?

  10. Hi Andrew, 6.1 is the last version that has Cinema DNG. 6.2 adds BRAW and Removes Cinema DNG for the Pocket 4k, it can still be rolled back as it is only compatible with the Old LCD version. 6.2.1 is for compatibility with the new LCD and can not be rolled back if you have the new LCD. In this thread someone said that they could roll back from 6.2.1 to 6.1 https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=90870 so I they must have the Old LCD. The 6.2.1 firmware identifies if you have the Old or New LCD and allows or disallows rollback based on the hardware identification. It makes sense to keep a copy if the installers for 6.1 and 6.2 so you can upgrade and rollback depending on the functionality you desire.

  16. Follow your point, but playback is not so dramatic at all. Here's mine on a Windows tablet and handles perfectly well any 4K outcome, H.265 (HEVC) included: It's more about processor. Let's not confusing with Resolve, based on eGPU resources consuming, instead.

Because pictures are not only made of technology... Who from here has any interest on his lessons? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilles_Deleuze You need to provide the necessary deterritorialization from your own being to be able to see better. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deterritorialization To come out from your shell, the need of a neutral point of view, dissociated from your own experience and passions. Take a look on this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhizome_(philosophy) You're ready to be naked by the eyes of anyone even in the way you choose your clothes. The root-tree system who charts you is a bitch. E : -)

  21. Grant Petty has always impressed. It must be tricky as the company grows to have everybody go forwards with the same engineering spirit. He's done a superb job. What needs tweaking is the marketing and communications side. These old LCD bodies are going to be like gold dust and worth double, triple, quadruple or more in a few years Maybe that's the Chinese guy's game, with the articulated hinge... Secretly swap the panels! Keep them for himself!

  23. Maybe there should be more than one public vote. One in the category of pixel peeping image quality... best resolution, best dynamic range, etc, etc. And one judging the talent behind the camera? Because sometimes people don't focus on both at once

  24. I think the same thing happened to me. Apps would still work, but I couldn't go to the home screen or close the apps that were on the screen, the buttons did nothing. Not sure what iPad you have but on the 2018 pro, you can push volume up, then volume down then hold the power button for about 5-10 seconds and it will reboot itself.

  26. OK, I’ve been looking at this little machine too. Here is what I was thinking: Max CPU, 16 gigs ram, 256gb SSD internal, with the 10GbE addon so I can plug a Synology NAS 1618+ (or newer model) for teh mass storages. Run the OS off the internal smallest SSD drive. Buy a couple of Samsung SSD for fast attached storage. Upgrade to an eGPU when prices go down. Also, why didn’t apple make this thing twice as tall (I think we would all forgive them) and put a quad core and a dedicated graphics (even low-end). Not sure if this has any practical benefits over a iMac since eGPUs take a bit of a performance hit.

  29. No I didn't, this thread is monitored by BMD staff, and there's a thread on this issue on the BMD forum. Grant strikes me as a good guy. I don't want a refund, the camera works very well in most situations, however this blue sky problem is not an issue with my other cameras, so it's something BMD needs to have a look at.

  31. Not too sure about the storage, just wanted to say I’ve been using one of these exclusively lately as a test with a loaner from Apple, and I’m very impressed. Been using it with a black magic egpu unit, and I can’t see any slow down from the upspecced 2013 Mac Pro I was using before. These Mac mini’s are mini beasts with the right spec. I prefer the design to the black trashcan.

  34. All true, but that doesn’t change the fact that the iPad isn’t a straight laptop replacement for most video or photo professionals yet in my opinion. It needs a proper file system first and foremost, and the secondary concerns are proper external monitor support, and better mouse and keyboard input. once you’ve added a keyboard, mouse, and got all the necessary dongles, cables and drives hanging off it, you really might as well get a laptop! of course if you’re a casual user who just wants to consume media, or even do some less demanding productivity tasks, then the iPad is beautiful machine.

  39. The older ones a a lot slower than the new ones. The 10.5" one is down there with a iPhone 7. We have a case for the 11" with a Bluetooth keyboard and it is not too bad. My Apple keyboard went belly up so haven't replaced that yet to try. We haven't spent to much time utilizing the new features. Been busy as of late. https://browser.geekbench.com/ios-benchmarks And as you can see here the new 11" is as good if not better than a 2018 15" MBP. Pretty amazing. And they are half the price of the MBP. And the Type C port on them is the same as Thunderbolt 3. https://www.macrumors.com/2018/11/01/2018-ipad-pro-benchmarks-geekbench/

  42. Follow this advice first @kaylee! It is spot on. The initial aim isn't money, and I would argue the aim is never ever about just money. The aim is good content. Money just "happens" if you get that bit right. I think Dave's advice about the affiliates is good as well, but none of that will apply initially as you build your audience and following. My advice is this: Sheer passion. You have to create the videos based on your passion, your enthusiasm and interest and sheer enjoying in making them. Once it becomes a chore or like work, the content gets lifeless and repetitive. This goes for everything. It goes for filmmakers, as much as it does for dog videos and cute stuff, everything has to have some inspiration or passion behind it to succeed, and you need to be almost obsessive about the subject over long periods of time. You have to love it. If you love dogs, like I do, go for it. You don't even need to think about it initially, just have fun and do what you do. If it's fun for you it's fun for me to watch and I will subscribe and join in the fun. My girlfriend watches guinea pig videos on YouTube, and has a riot. When she's stressed or upset she watches rabbit being washed in bubble bath There is massive demand for this sort of content on YouTube but quite a lot of it about. If you are unique, and I think you are, you'll succeed if you stick with it and build that following. Don't even look at the balance sheet though, for at least 2 months, and obviously don't spend more than you have to creating the videos at first, until you have a following and merchandise (or affiliate income) that can support it. Build a niche and a brand and they will come! Sell t-shirts, sell merchandise to your fans. It sounds like you have an absolute gem of a setting, the forest, the awesome dogs... So go for it and don't look back. When I started EOSHD I was just a forum poster at DVXUser giving out all this info for free on someone else's site and the site admins were horrible to me one day, so I thought - right - enough of this, I'm going to set up my own camera blog, my own forum, and that was EOSHD. I hope my passion showed through! GOOD LUCK!

  43. Hey Kaylee! I will speak for myself but also speak for my friends who are all in this YouTube creator space making a full time living. I have a channel called Kinotika and I am a full time YouTuber. I went full time about a year and a half ago and we have over 60,000 subscribers...on track to hit 100,000 next year hopefully. First off...the money I make off ad revenue from Google is nothing. I’ll just say it to you....We make on average $1,000 a month off ad rev. That is by no means enough to live off of. On the months where we have had viral videos where we get close to a million views that month, we make $3,000 roughly that month. Even on our BEST months....$3,000 just isn’t enough money per month to live off of for me and my wife and kids. Thats where affiliate marketing comes in. I make sometimes double money or sometimes more off affiliate compared to ad rev...and it is continuing to grow. (I still haven’t even enabled international amazon...so I am only dealing with the USA) On top of affiliate, once we hit about 50,000 subscribers...agents started reaching out to me to represent us. I now have two agents working for me that get brand deals. Have you ever seen a video where they say “ This video brought to you by _____”? That is a brand deal. I get paid often $1,000 or more just to do one ad read. I make four videos a month and if I can get a brand to sponsor every video on my channel...we have some serious cash. Moral of the story is: CREATE AN AUDIENCE OF PEOPLE WHO CARE FIRST. Don’t worry about the money from Ad Rev or even affiliates. The biggest YouTube channels out there make the majority of their money from brand deals. The biggest creators I know for a fact will charge $20,000 and up just for an ad read. You aren’t going to make any money for at least a year or more. It took me about a year of uploading two videos a week every week talking about camera gear before I started making anything substantial. Making an “ENTERTAINMENT” channel is even harder than what I have done because it is difficult to monetize that. You have to gather a large following and then you will get calls from brands who want to pay you to sponsor your content. With what I do...people are already searching for the things I am talking about because I talk about new camera gear every day so it has a high searchability and discoverability rate. Watch channels like Derral Eves, Think Media, Video Creators, etc. They have tons and tons of videos teaching you how to get started. Moral of the story is...make videos that make you happy first. Just have fun. Make stuff you are good at. Don’t try to conform to what you THINK other people want to see. It has taken me a long time to accept the fact that I am naturally good at talking about camera gear and apple tech....that’s about it. Anyways....hope this helps.

  44. Some really good info here. I watch a lot of YT and especially higher production channels, and at some point they all make a "how I succeeded at YT" video, and the story is always the same. Putting my business consultant hat on, I'd suggest you look at it like a sales pipeline: First step is to convert people that have no idea you exist into people that do know you exist. This is about having a video of yours appear somewhere on the screen. This depends on the mighty algorithm. Second step is to convert people who have seen you exist but haven't watched one of your videos into people that have watched one of your videos. This is about thumbnail and titles. This is where clickbait will help you. Third is to keep people watching your video for as long as possible. The first 'trick' is to hook the viewer in the first few seconds. Studies have been done about how kids can tell if something is authentic or not in something like 7 seconds, so basically you have to be interesting, and you can't fake it. The old trick of showing a clip from the peak of the third act and then "72 hours earlier" can work, but basically lead with the most awesome bit until peoples itchy clicks fingers move away from the "Next" button. This is where clickbait will hurt you - if you promise something in the title and then don't deliver then people will click away. This is why the Casey Neistat videos where he has big news (like the "I'm leaving NYC forever" video) the first thing he says is "Hi... It's not clickbait". The fourth is to get people to interact with your video. More engagement means you come out higher in the mighty algorithm. Likes and comments are great for your video and your channel. The fifth is to get people to watch more videos. This is where the end screen comes in with the "watch more of my videos" comes in, as well as people putting in links in the top-right when they mention things. The sixth is to get people to subscribe. Subscribers are more likely to see the next video you make. That's fancy words for things we already know..... Clickbait titles and thumbnails, keep people engaged, link to other videos, then the almighty "like, comment, subscribe" commandment. Then it's "post often". Then it's monetise. They also talk about balancing regular content with findable content. This is why people vlog and mix in product reviews. If their channel was only product reviews then they'd get hits but less subscribers, and if they only did normal vlog or whatever videos then not many people would find their content. So doing collaborations and reviews and other searchable content is how to find new viewers, and regularly making good content makes those people stick around. A good example is Sara Deitchy who famously got famous by making a parody of Casey Neistat. He did what everyone did, heard about the video, watched it, enjoyed it, but before sharing it he looked at the rest of her channel and saw that she'd made documentary-series and other real high-quality content and only then decided she was worth recommending. It's like threading the needle, you have to do everything right, however, I think that there's ample room on the platform. I was watching YT daily around 2005 and there were a group of YT peeps who got all the views and were all referencing each other, they're all gone, without exception. I suspect that most of the top ranking people from even 2010 or 2015 are probably mostly replaced as well. This is likely the algorithm changing over time, but it means that everyone famous now was new then, so opportunities exist. Oh, and everyone says you have to grind for years before your channel will take off, and even then, no guarantees.

  45. There is/was an ML version for EOSM firmware 2.0.3. ML developer Daniel Fort has a 2.0.3 ML version from January 2017 on his bitbucket download page (scroll down to "magiclantern-Nightly.2017Jan13.EOSM203.zip"), Here is Daniel Fort's tutorial on how to downgrade Canon firmware. It is fairly easy, once you have the firmware (.fir) file -- just reflash the firmware the same way you would flash ML (except the SD card should not have the "boot flag" enabled). Always make sure that your battery is fully charged before you attempt a firmware update. Canon doesn't seem to have the EOSM 2.0.2 firmware posted for download, but it is available on this page. Scroll down to the firmware download link near the bottom of the page (it's not the "ksd291a_installer.zip" file near the top of the page). In Daniel Fort's firmware downgrade tutorial, he seems to suggest that it is very unlikely that someone would/could tamper with compressed Canon firmware files (.fir).
