2 sets, 4 jobs, 4 failures, so I have returned for a refund via Amazon. I don't want to diss Rode as I use other audio equipment from them and had really high hopes for this system, but it's let me down several times now over the last few weddings. Whether connected to camcorder, or Fuji XT3 or Sony recorders, I haven't had a single seamless ceremony or set of speeches. The final straw was this weekend, direct line of sight, indoors, under 20 metres/60 feet and the end result was again incomplete. Even at 10 metres/30 feet with the transmitter in grooms pocket and lav mic on lapel, - intermittent result. I have 2 sets marked up A and B and it's happened with both so either I have been incredibly unlucky, or the system is not flawless. Whatever the case may be...and as above, no intent to slag Rode, but I can't rely on this system so next weekend going back to Sony recorders, lav mics + shotgun mics and Pluralize. Just a heads up and for anyone using the system, make sure you have a back up audio system running...4 points

Bring it on! 15 hours work per week is my dream! Humans are not supposed to work 10-12 hours per day (+ an hour or two go and come back). Here, all the TV jobs are 10-12 hours, and in some productions it is even more. Most (almost all) of them do not even pay overtime. Everyone points out the negatives, but constructing machines to do the repetitive shitty jobs is a huge opportunity for the networked humanity to achieve great things (like explore other systems and colonize space e.t.c). Do we really need people working at McDonalds and Walmart? Is this what Aristotle, DaVinci, Nietzsche, Sagan dreamed of humanity? I say, bring in the robots, until they revolt, and kill all of us, of course...2 points -

The reality is, good hybrid cameras is what consumers are looking for now and for the foreseeable future. Although everyone doesn’t need proper 4K, that plus video autofocus are features that sells cameras and Canon does not have a DSLR(besides 1Dx II), EOS-M, EOS-R or P&S with proper 4K and DPAF. If Canon would’ve ridden the wave from the market that they accidentally created with the 5DII, they probably would’ve monopolized the prosumer and consumer camera market. Just image a competitively spec’d C100, 5DIII, 7DII and/or EOS-M with DPAF and 4K. The A7 series, Fuji X series and the GH series would’ve had a very hard time poaching Canon users and new to market customers. Although Nikon was late to the game, at least they’re making a valiant effort. My 1DX II has been sitting on the sidelines ever since I got the X-T3 and now I have my eye on the GFX series.2 points -

Wow! I missed that completely back then, but I shot quite a lot of projects with the VG series of cameras. I hated them, they were ergonomical nightmares, but very interesting concepts at the time. Still believe that the best ergonomics for a small but capable video camera would be based on a Canon XC10/15. You can add a shoulder pad on almost anything these days.2 points

I think that smartphones are a huge part of the changing market. People are certainly switching to smartphones from other types of cameras. The question is from what?? So, I had an idea to investigate further. Keep in mind that this is *purely* anecdotal and may not apply to the overall market. I pulled this list of most commonly used cameras from flickr.com and sorted them by the average number of daily users. NINE of the top ten cameras were Apple iPhones. The Canon 5D MIII comes in at #7, with the Nikon D750 close behind at #11. Eleven of the top 20 were smartphones. The first point/shoot camera is #68. So, the P&S cams have been completely killed by phones. The DSLRs? Not so much. But, mirrorless is a blip on the radar so far. Here are the top 15. I attached the entire list as a PDF. What do you guys think? Camera usage on Flickr - 2019-07.pdf2 points

What are your guys’ favorite settings for Panasonic cameras that don’t have v-log? I’ve been using natural with contrast -5 and sat -3 and it grades well, but with contrast at 0 and sat at -2 the color tonality shines.1 point

Sony - the new Canon!
Skip77 reacted to Video Hummus for a topic
All the modern Sony models have a quad-core ARM Cortex-A5 plus custom Sony ISP inside of them. They farm their printing to Global Foundry (among others) which are leading the pack with 7nm node production. It's not like they are doubling the resolution of cameras every year. I am sure they can design custom ISPs that are over built and can process 8K+ video streams with low latency and low TDP thermals. Phones can manage to do it, plus a lot more. Why not the camera manufacturers?1 point -
@Mokara +1+1 for the Samsung comment! What NX1 and NX500 did in 2015 and 2016 with no overheating and recording straight for 73min was science fiction. The camera and its construction was a masterpiece of engineering. So clean internal design and nicely constructed with their first try.. I still remember the special press crusifing the NX500 for the 4K crop, while it took the rest of the industry a few years to catch up, and some still haven't. It was a 799€ (kit with a PZ lens) camera in 2016! Such an incredible deal..(I got the DE version with extra batteries and charger for the same money).1 point

Exactly. And their isn’t really much competition from other companies that deliver what the g7 does. Sony a6000 is overheating 1080p. Canon m50 is more expensive with nice 1080 but useless 4K and bad assist features. Em10iii maybye?? But no flat profile on it. The g7 IS still a good value, even if the g85 is technically better.1 point

Here ya go! This software is Mac only, just FYI! http://www.mediafire.com/file/9ajz8en7ozagwr8/Andromeda.zip/file I highly, highly doubt it. The hardware sends down a binary blob in a proprietary format that you have to transcode into your desired format after capture. This isn't just a simple video stream.1 point -
The g7 can be bought used for $300-350. That is a steal for what it is. Gh3 1080p plus gh4 4K for 300 bucks! New though I would recommend a used g85. The g95 is crap with 8 bit vlog.1 point

Here's one more thing that's needed: Depth Information. It amazes me that I get depth information from an iPhone but can't get it from my $3,000-dollar DSLR or Mirrorless cameras. Camera manufacturers in general should get on the depth-information bandwagon because it simply is *very* useful and something that cellphones are getting very good at. From a photographer's perspective it allows us to re-light a photo *after* it has been captured, which I use creatively to great effect on my iPhone. And from a cinematographer's perspective it can aid on doing green-screen effects *without* a green screen. Computational photography can be very useful in the DSLR/Mirrorless market, but it seems that camera manufacturers are lacking people with vision on where to drive the industry forward. And btw, I actually have done a couple of jobs using my iPhone which I'd rather have done otherwise on my large camera bodies with larger sensors, which is a great example of why cellphones are eating away slowly on camera sales. The camera manufacturer dinosaurs have to wake up or die.1 point

A7iii is a decent option. Z6 also. Eos r has fantastic 1080p (c100 like oversampling in crop mode) plus best in class af. It doesn’t have IBIS, but eis is good. Fuji xt3 however probably has the best 1080p quality to price ratio that meets your requirements (other than ibis.). I think it oversamples. Ibis isn’t he be all and end all. With practice I get stable handheld shots with my g7, and it has no ibis and my meike 25mm 1.8 has no stabilization. Just use a camera strap.1 point

A usual professional system (Rx/Tx and a pro lav) costs 1500€ on average and can go significantly higher (e.g I am ordering a couple DPA 6060 lavalier mics that will reach 800€ each without the accessories). What did you expect for 200€? At the moment, the best/cheap solution is the Sony UWP series, and that has a lot of limitations also (especially with range).1 point -
THE LAKES (AIVASCOPE 1.5x anamorphic lens with Canon FD 35mm f2 paired with Speedbooster) this is my fourth film test with the new Aivascope 1.5x anamorphic lens on my Panasonic GH4, paired with Canon FD 35mm f2 and Metabones Speedbooster. The Aivascope anamorphic 1.5x lens is a very sharp lens working great with some of my primes. It’s a single focus lens (you do the focus on it and let the prime on infinity). The speed booster gave sharper, faster and wider shots paired with the prime Canon FD 35mm f2. If my calculation is good it gives a (35mm X 2,34) : (1,5x) X 0,71x) = 38mm (in the width) « 35mm equivalent » with 1.8 aperture In this 4th movie you will see different shots done with (Canon aperture from wide open f2 to f4) : GH4 4K uhd (no CC) 24p + Aivascope 1.5x anamorphic lens with Canon FD 35mm f2 on Metabones Speedbooster I’ve used a Starblitz variable ND lens, on the GH4 the picture mode is on « portrait » with slight ajustments. Canon will be around in five years... I don’t see them dropping out of the consumer market. They may simplify their offerings. They might have to stop leaving out desired features. The new Eos R Pro and 1DXMK3 will speak to weather Canon has learned anything about the new camera market. Sony will be around, but might withdraw from being a smartphone manufacturer. Let’s hope the A7S4 (skipping 3 I assume?) will deliver something innovative and fresh. Nikon... RIP. Too little, too late. How’s that raw output going? Did they already run out of cash for further development? Olympus... dead and buried... they just don’t know it yet. Pentax? Didn’t they go out of business in the 1980’s? They are the walking dead. Panasonic will survive but will need to modify their thinking. Clearly the new FF cameras are not selling as well as they would have liked. I also feel the new S1H would have lost some of its luster once it finally is released. Too many competitors will have equal or better specs by that time. Fuji is thinking outside of the box. I’m confident they will make the cut beyond the 5 year mark. I’m excited to see that the X1H Mk2 will bring. Camera sales are down for most of the major players...? Sony included. Those that will survive are those that can evolve. A few that had no mention: Sigma, let’s hope they are a new rising star. Leica... is jewelry. They will be around for sometime to come.1 point

Just because you don't understand my point doesn't mean that others live in a dream world. Sony has lost so much money on their camera business over the last year's that it's gonna take a long time to recover. You are talking about Sony as a whole and yes they make a lot of money. So do Panasonic. But it's not from cameras. Same with Fuji whos reports show its basically Instax film making the money in the photo segment, not the XT3. But we have been down this boring road before where we argue about the same thing. A few talk about camera sales and others about cameras + water heaters. The numbers don't add up and instead of communication it's attacks and baiting. Then someone calls me an idiot and you explain that you are old and therefore right by default So I will end it there. All I say is read the financial reports and be critical. They to are written for marketing reasons. Don't just eat the propaganda. Ask why cameras are lumped with TVs in one company but separated at others? Ask why Sony lumps it with video cameras etc? Ask why some put them under "other"? And ask if you think they would show huge profits from a segment if they could, would share holders care?1 point -

Going by DPReview's video still comparison, the GH5 still has the best 1080p out of everything they tested, by a considerable margin. The Sony's don't have great 1080p, i'd say second place in 1080p goes to Fujifilm. The X-H1 does have IBIS, and it's pretty good now from what i've seen, probably better than any FF camera excluding the Panasonic S1. The AF isn't bad either, surely better than the GH5. The X-H1 is quite reasonably priced now, so it could be an option.1 point

You'll be stepping down video quality too much on original A7. It barely looks like 720p and has moire. The A7S is much better in 1080p internally. No 4K. What are you recording externally to? It does 4K via HDMI. The A7S is very old, but still not *that* cheap used. There are cheaper nice 1080p full frame cameras around these days.1 point -
