A 4K micro with or without a 3.2" LCD and a NPF battery mount would've been a much more attractive proposition. Who needs 6K? I just made the leap from 1080p to 4K and the first thing I did was slap a Black ProMist filter on it to take the edge off.4 points -

You are not right. The majority of Hollywood produced TV shows and films are shot on an Alexa Mini... which shoots 2.7K. Netflix Originals account for a very small percentage of Hollywood Productions and BTW... almost everybody on this site knows about Netflix’s requirements for their original productions because there are about a half a dozen threads about it over the past couple of years. But thanks for playing. Good Lord... how old are you? By your name, I would think you were born in 1977 but by your responses, it’s like talking to a teenager. I’m sure you’ll reply by cherry picking one of my sentences and distorting it but please don’t bother wasting your time... this is boring.3 points -

All this resolution talk....you simply film in the highest resolution you can (time and budget allows) without it effecting greatly your editing workflow for the platform you are delivering for.3 points -
Ah, I think we were possibly talking at cross purposes then. To be fair, the power situation isn't nearly the headache it was when we first got them either when BM inexplicably did not have the cable kits ready so we were all having to lash together different clunky solutions. Overall, I actually think the Pocket 4K probably wins the minimum spend on additional accessories to shoot though as the additional power costs are more than offset by how much it costs to get a phantom powered XLR microphone into the other cameras and BRAW has shifted things even further with regard to comparable media costs.3 points

Good to hear 4:3 anamorphic, 1.33x and 2x de-squeeze, and 2.39:1 modes coming in the 6.6 update in a month or two. Sux there isn't a 1.5x de-squeeze though.3 points -
What a beast. It puts to shame anything else at that price on the market spec wise. I really hope this pushes the others to up their game.3 points

I can tell you from experience that 1080p always looks organic next to most hybrid cameras 4K. Every time I shoot 1080p on my g7 it looks more organic and filmic than 4K.3 points

Can't say that this unwieldy beast of a $2500, plastic "pocket" camera does anything for me. The Sigma FP is mighty interesting though.3 points

The 2.8K mode is windowed? What a waste. With this information and at this price, the P6K enters the rental category for me. $1299 for the P4K is a price that makes the headaches of BM cameras go away, $2499... ehh not so much.2 points

P6K: the best EF lenses
Jonesy Jones and one other reacted to billdoubleu for a topic
I sketched it out in AutoCad last night. It's a 1.54 crop against an A7III sensor. I'm not sure if that's a standard full frame size but it seems like it should be close enough.2 points -
No chanse Sigma FP will cost more than 2κ $. Propably will be around 1500-1800$. Image quality will define which proposition is better. ps We live in a wonderfull tech age for our interests guys. It's a bless that small companies like BM and Sigma offer this kind of products at these prices. Thank God that we don't expect that from Sony, Panasonic, Canon, Arri and Red. BlackMagic is the new RED.2 points

I guess the difference is that even though no man is free from sinn, the orange dude is a confessed aspring rapist, a criminal and a diagnosed compulsive liar. Which, good or bad policies aside, makes him pretty unfit for the job and there for a more legitimate target. Agreed, even though Im part of the problem. Its just one of those days On topic, The new sensor size and mount is a god send. The BMPCC4K should have had a smaller sensor or EF mount to make it less of a PITA. To bad about the 6K though, since its totally unnecessary imo and the price of it is too rich for my personal usage of it. If it would have had 250fps in HD I would have preordered it instantly.2 points -

I get on my Knees every night and pray for Emanuel. It has not seemed to help. I guess Meditation is sort of a waste of time if that doesn't work. I guess I have reached a point of my usefulness on here as it falls on deaf ears. It changes but remains the same. I will leave all of you to you. Some deserve the others. Some pay the price. Such is life. Some learn, others continue the same. It has to be new knowledge learned. Why bother if not. Greener pastures abound. Good luck on your journeys. All comes to and end like it or not. Such is life. I am done here. We will all be happier lol. I see no gains, probably not alone.. ? Enjoy, it won't last. Never does as they say. I will not be back, ever. Wow, this thread spiraled quickly. Usually it takes at least 7 pages for the politics to hit full stride. I can't. It's still a while before 4k is truly mainstream. I know very few people with 4k screens, and I know no one who regularly watches 4k content. I know in select communities 4k is old news, but from what I see it's still a minority. You can make the argument that 6k is "future proof," but by the time I want to shoot in 6k, we'll have 3 more generations of cameras to choose from. From my perspective the P4K has no downsides, and half the cost. Unless, of course, the real world reviews and footage is vastly different from my expectations--if it turns out the P6K inherits the minimal rolling shutter from the 4.6k G2, then that's a good place to start making a case--but it seems unlikely. What I dislike about the new Pocket series in general is it does not seem very easy to rig up. The battery life seems poor, and an external battery would block the screen. And I don't like DSLR-style grips, which either get in the way of a follow focus, or make it hard to balance on a gimbal. I'm still hoping for an update to the Micro, but it is more likely that I'll have to turn to Z Cam when/if I upgrade from the trusty NX1. What I love about both P4K and P6K is that they really set the bar low for price by stripping away complex systems that I don't need for video, such as AF, IBIS, and EVF, while adding a lot of simple things that are crucial, like full size HDMI and timecode.2 points -
The market consists of different flavors, noone of the big companies I work for would buy any of the Pockets - ever, I personally, would/will buy one, and a lot of the smaller production companies already are delivering TV shows with GH5 and P4K cameras. I am spending big in sound because I am a soundman first, I am not a DP or cameraman, but I do have a production company that needs a small and "cheap-ish" new camera, it doesn't have to be about power struggle and dog eat dog and big fish eats small fish e.t.c I just need a small-ish and reasonably priced camera for the occasional and accordingly priced project. For bigger you rent anyway or co-produce with another company. Glad you've been here! P.S if they were squeezing an ND filter somewhere in there it would be a certain buy from me.2 points

Yeah, I agree that no camera can be future proof. But, some cameras do stand the test of time at least for a 5-10 year period. Red, c100s and co. Within the last 5-7 years, we can agree that the following are now dead in the water. Ursa , UM4k UM4.6K, Micro. Personally, I like the pocket 4k. That was the camera I always wanted the first BMCC to be and with a few firmware upgrades there is soo much potential for improvement rather than a new system in such a short space of time. I use a viltrox speed reducer and the Tamron 24-70 2.8 with my pocket 4k. No rigs, just body and battery and it's so convenient1 point

No. Are you the most argumentative for no reason whatsoever? As far as Netflix... umm... yeah that’s what I said. As far as 4K? I don’t think anybody disagrees with you about future proofing. That is a solid argument in favor of 4K and the argument has been around for 5+ years, yet 5 years after the advent of 4K into the consumer market and over 10 years since Red released 4K into a cinema camera, most US Network Television is still broadcasted in 720p. So, I don’t see people pushing against it, I see some people choosing not to use it. Obviously, 4K is the future, but it doesn’t mean that 2K is obsolete because a small percentage of content ON (not created by) Netflix is in 4K.1 point -
The small orange one (the PBC) which won't be orange has an expansion module with five buttons and a small wheel. It communicates to the PBC by bluetooth so you can split them if you want or attach into one controller. So you can have the PBC on top of the camera for example and the expander on a handle. Its a lot cooler than I'm making it sound. But of course. Probably1 point

I almost wonder if BM functions day to day from the money they make from preorders... joking. I actually think this is a strange camera release and they’re banking on the desire of enthusiasts and up and coming filmmakers to drink the Kool Aid. If I’m being honest, I’m almost offended that less than 2 months ago, people were still waiting for their pre-ordered P4K and then they release this. Also, what does this camera do to Ursa sales? I’m sure a lot of folks were planning or considering a jump from the P4K to the Ursa and now don’t have to. Interesting.1 point

I understand why higher resolutions are better, and where to see them, but here's my experience: I know 0 people who own a 4k computer screen. I own a 4k TV but never use it in 4k because I have 0 4k movies, my blu ray player only supports 1080p, my internet won't handle a 4k stream, and for gaming it maxes out at 4k30 which is too low a frame rate. 100% of the Apple desktop computers that I have seen, were at universities or studios--Mac as an operating system has <4% market share, and a lot of those are laptops. The actual number of 4K+ iMacs out there in use is miniscule. Very few of my friends actually own desktop computers, for that matter, they just use laptops and phones with HD screens. They would benefit from the bitrate increase of streaming 4K on their devices, but for vast swathes of rural America, the internet bandwidth simply doesn't support 4k. I get that a lot of pros need 4k or 6k to stay ahead of the competition. When making content, you make it high enough resolution that the top tier viewers are satisfied, even if only 10% see it in 4k. But the reality for me is, 4k is not a display format yet. My work has only ever been shown in local theaters, festivals, and bars, and none of those venues had 4K display capabilities.1 point -

My experience with ML raw is limited, but Braw is much easier to work with and you can put it straight into the NLE and go. It also has half baked luts, so you have a near perfect SOC file with all the luxuries that come with raw. Ive also found its less noisy and often more forgiving that ML raw, but like I said my experience with ML is limited and it’s entirely possible I’m doing it wrong.1 point

As an LX100 (Mk1) owner, I'd agree with that. It's a great camera for stills, and pretty good for video, but it's compromised in various ways to keep it small - the LCD is fixed (and non-touch), the LVF is small, it only uses part of the micro-4/3 sensor area (so it's not really a micro-4/3 camera), the power zoom can be jerky and difficult to set exactly, and the lens is a bit prone to flaring. It's a great camera for its intended (enthusiast compact) market, and I like mine, but it's not a GH4 + 12-35mm F2.8 combo equivalent... These days I'd probably buy a GX80/85 + 12-32mm 'pancake' zoom kit instead, and put a (cheap, lightweight) 25mm F1.7 lens in the bag for really low-light situations.1 point

PolarStarArts reacted to kye for a topic
Trying to get nice 1080 while casual handheld shooting with an ILC is a mine-field I've been trying to cross for some time. To grossly over-simplify: All cinema cameras are out because they're either too heavy or too attention grabbing Canon non-cinema cameras are deliberately crippled to protect their cinema line Canon with ML is unreliable and has a steep learning curve The GH5 either can't focus reliably or people can't work out how to do it The Sonys all seem to overheat (although depending on what you shoot this might not be an issue) and the smaller/cheaper ones have bad RS The Fuji XH-1 chews batteries and the extra grip costs extra and makes it pretty heavy Things like the original BMPCC need a rig and becomes cumbersome (BMPCC needs external power) Going modular with things like the BMMCC requires a rig and BMMCC has almost no controls and so you can't use it to adapt to changing situations Mostly the way I see people getting around this combination is to either choose Canons soft 1080, sacrifice reliability and use Canon ML RAW, get a fast fixed-lens camera like RX100 or RX10, accept RS and overheating with a6300/6500, or accept a fixed focal length and give a big middle-finger to the whole industry and use their phone (where with up to 4k60 and 1080p240 it beats everything up to 10x or 20x the price). Or just put it on a tripod, and accept that you'll get hassled or barred from most places you go. The basic issue is that industry assumes that consumers who want convenience don't want image quality (compact point-and-shoots), consumers who want image quality only take photos (Canon DSLRs take lovely photos), or that if you want image quality then you're a pro and you can use a tripod and don't mind a huge camera. We're caught between the other users basically.1 point -
