At the risk of taking the thread in an unexpected direction, here's my two set-ups from earlier today, pictured in their natural habitat, on a beach towel on my lap in a tour bus, with people around me wondering WTF I was doing taking a photo of two cameras with a third camera (my phone). Sony X3000 for crazy wides, gimbal-like stabilisation when walking and handy actions shots like getting in and out of busses, trains, planes, etc for b-roll and establishing shots. GH5 with Rode VMP+ and Konica Hexanon 40mm for a bit of reach for the main shots where I have a bit more time.4 points

Jinni.Tech vs. RED Part 4 (1hr long)
EthanAlexander and one other reacted to Shaocaholica for a topic
Reduser still going on about how if Red cameras are just a pile of commodity parts then why don’t more companies do it which if they ignored their doublethink they would realize other companies are and that this isn’t at all the argument jinni is making. The mental gymnastics is 10/10.2 points -

Edmika is not the most practical solution there is to getting an FD to eos conversion. Honestly the most practical solution to video is with a specialized video camera and lenses with autofocus and image stabilzation kind of like b4 lenses. Heck, not even using a canon dslr is even practical. Edmika is a solution, which can lead to some interesting results. Do research on the lens mount adapters by Edmika, and make sure there is a good amount of instruction on the lens and also that you know a lot about the lens distance from the camera, but I can assure you the product is real.2 points -
Appreciate it once I get it edited and colored by my colorist I’ll be sure to post it I’ve done 2 extensive shoots and my p6k has not shut down and I’m using the Samsung 500gb ssd and I’ve filled them up with sparring 1 min on 6k braw. Here’s a one shot scene I shot on pro res 1080 setting with 28mm canon FD with all natural lighting https://youtu.be/0EY4TZ1YwNY2 points

This is like one of those back and forward fashion things, where everyone would once be eager to show how big and complex their rig was, now everyone wants to show how simple and barebones their setup is ?.1 point -

@Anaconda_ it's nice to use both actually, the extra speed from the booster can be really useful, and more reach with the glassless also has it's uses1 point

One costs 1495€ and the other is rumored for 2200$, which in euro money will be around 2499€. Ofcourse It is NOT only the image that counts. I happily chose the compact form of Mavic vs the better specs of a Phantom.1 point

Talking of the Canon FD's I have just pulled the trigger on the Canon 20-35mm F3.5 which seems to match the other FD's well. I have a set of Canon FD's which look great on the P4K.1 point

Didn't know about the PDAF update. But it was not available when I had it.1 point

I hope you're aware some of your cons list don't really apply anymore, isn't it? When there's a new firmware update to introduce PDAF and you can use a wide angle lens as for instance, correct? : -)1 point

Used one for a few months. Overall it's very good for the price and some of the weakness are to be expected at this price point (eg. small sensor, bad low ISO and weak DR). PRO: Very small and portable Excellent gimbal stabilization 4k60 100mbps bitrate in 4K60 (h.264) Screen on the handle (but very small, just use for framing) Good battery life (about 1h30), can be recharged with USB-C Price Nice tap to focus feature, relatively responsive even though it's hard to see on the tiny screen CON Poor dynamic range, same tiny sensor as the Mavic Air Noisy footage, especially in the shadows (like the Mavic Air and Mavic 2 zoom) The attachment with smartphone is very bad and unstable, unfortunately some settings can only be changed via the DJI App The smartphone connector is only provided for iphone, needs a micro USB adapter for other phones, which only adds to the instability of the system Manual exposure only available with the phone + App The 28mm focal is a bit narrow to my taste, this is especially noticeable when you start walking (up and down motion). I would have preferred something like 24mm. AF is on the bad side (a later firmware update improved the AF, but I haven't tried it) Poor low ISO performance, normal for this sensor size though1 point

I do not see how this is a Mavic competitor. It is obviously on a different class altogether, and rumored to be priced above 2000$ for sure.1 point

I like the softness, but I find the colors a bit too mute. Contrast is sitting well, but I feel the colors should pop more, more saturated on the RED/BLUE shots.1 point -
Jinni.Tech vs. RED Part 4 (1hr long)
Emanuel reacted to Xavier Plagaro Mussard for a topic
In fact, technology arrived to a point where most of us have cameras that have equivalent or better IQ that the equipment used in our all time favourite films. About the beginnings of RED I remember that a lot of normal videographers bought a RED camera + accesories, thinking they would become either Kubrick or Warner Bros. That was not the case. Cameras are tools, I can't imagine carpenters talking about hammer or nails...1 point -
Thx for the feedback! I agree with you that his voice is too prominent. I literally shot this scene in 10 min and edited/colored in another 10 min and gave it to the actress who wanted a quick turnaround lol. For the framing I actually cropped it to 1080 x 817 to give it a widescreen look. The original shot I don’t really cut off her head. I just did it for aesthetics. There’s a super wide angle lens I’m contemplating of getting for my pocket. The Lowa 12mm Check it out https://youtu.be/krD0GSqkfSQ1 point

Panasonic G9 hybrid capabilities
newfoundmass reacted to MrSMW for a topic
@newfoundmass the latter, ie, separate settings for photo & video ie, basically have 2 cameras in 1 body with respective settings for each type of capture. It sounds like it’s the case and when back in the UK in a few weeks, will go and have a play in a camera shop. Maybe take a card and shoot something even if it is attached to an anti theft cord!1 point -
Great shots, but I noticed that you cut the heads a lot. In your video, a couple of steps back or a 24mm view would be nice to see, for both the front and the back character - it was taking out some of the tense for me. This is also exaggerated by the fact your back actor's voice is too prominent in the mix, his quality of voice brings him in front anyway, so needs a special mixing and post to bring him at his natural position on the scene. You are expecting to girl to be louder with no room at all, as it is, but the male character is further back in the room and has to be positioned there in post. Maybe this is your style though, so just don't worry about it, I can not truly judge from a few screenshots and a clip! I just mentioned it because it is something I was doing too, but working with very good and experienced DoPs (I do mainly sound in TV) through the years, I realized that I was overdoing it. I do have a set of FD lenses from my AE-1 that I haven't used for ages. I tried and find an 24mm that I was missing, but I like to shoot wide (in S35, that is) and finding a good and reasonably priced wide FD lens is a nightmare. I do like my Samyang 16mm.1 point

6K is the new 1440p, Convince me otherwise
EthanAlexander reacted to Danyyyel for a topic
In what universe people are living. Moore law is not eternal, if you did not notice computer power increase has slowed down quite a bit, if it was not for Amd Ryzen processors we would not see any increase for the last 5-7 years. RAM and Hard disk is a bit worst, long are the days of increasing density for less and less. HD price had stayed about the same for more than 5 years. Media cost is costing quite a bit more as moving from 1080p to 4k is quadruple the data needed. and nowhere has the price of media decrease or capacity increase by 4x. This treat has turn into some cospiracy theory, ask intel how marketing has mess up with their 10nm process so that AMD is beating them up hard. Intel must be so happy loosing market share because you know that's the aim of mega corporations. By the way if you want to see one example of how we are reaching some very very hard limit, the intel 10 nm debacle is the right example. Once always the N01 in process tech by one to two generation they missed the boat completely.1 point -

Jinni.Tech vs. RED Part 4 (1hr long)
Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to Sun Daze for a topic
I think part of the appeal of red is buying into the myth of Red. And part of that Myth is that the CEO, Jim Jannard, is the Elon Musk of the camera world. A genius badass disruptor. When that myth gets lifted, with jinnimag videos, consumers, especially those who own thousands of dollars of gear, those who bought into the myth of red get upset. Especially in the past three years, when 4k is now the norm, and Red no longer has higher resolution as a selling point, and when cheaper cameras like the blackmagic ursa mini pro and c300 ii and fs7 can get people to an image they want for a lot cheaper. When Hollywood now primarily uses the Alexa over the red. It's almost a mythical choice. But yea, now as we find out how much of a liar and Barnum-like con man Jim is, more stuff like below will be discovered. When he was the CEO at Oakley, he was involved in the Lance Armstrong doping scandal. He most likely was a bully who "encouraged" his employee to lie under oath. Maybe not what people expect in a leader. The type of person who could point blank lie to several companies about the origin of his camera components and would have no problem manipulating his users. More of this will come out. And at what point will the myth of red vanish, and will cameras go back to just being cameras. Tools used to do a job or create art? Where camera comparison tests from CML have more effect on a buyer than the feeling one gets from holding a camera or if it feels like a status symbol? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-07-02/sponsor-turned-blind-eye-to-lance-armstrongs-doping/55640741 point -

Hey guys I got my bmpcc6k last wk and finally got to take it out this wknd to do some test shots. Here are some screen grabs. I shot in Braw 6k & 2.8k mixing 23.98, 50 and 120 fps. Lens was canon 24-70mm L series. Also I had no ND so I had to stop down a lot and mess with the ISO to expose. These stills I colored in Lightroom. I’ll have the video edited and colored within the next wk or so. I’m really loving the look. Also below are the raw files with the colored ones side by side. I’m not a colorist but I tried my best to bring out the colors. ============================================================================================================1 point
