  1. I got sick of these terrible test videos so I decided to go out and make a quick video. It's an amazing camera.

I am in agreement with you!!! I don't understand the rebellious-teen-diva-ish tone in some of the demands of this thread that the LUT be ready at their command. They probably don't understand that Sage is a one man R&D team, so he has to take his time to fine tune the luts. Plus as someone pointer earlier, updates are going to roll out soon and we don't know how that might affect the LUT as well. Sage probably has other film demands to attend to, perhaps a full time job? He owes no one any deadline schedule.

  3. Let's get this party started! Not the best thing I've ever made, but in the spirit of quantity over quality (and of making things and publishing even if they're not perfect), here it is. This is lens #1 - I may make more than one film with each lens. I think I followed all the rules.... someone made so many of them!! ???

  4. I agree. The AF is very underrated Probably because AF is the only minor area left to criticize about the GH5/GH5S! There is nothing else left? Love the realism of the acting! I agree, people go hard in acting Panasonic's AF but gives all the other brands a free pass it seems on the many features they miss out on vs GH5

  5. Mokara has been searching for every reason EXCEPT the most obvious one to try and explain why 24p was left out. Must have been licensing and cost cutting! Now it must be a processing issue! No. Canon left it out because they want to push the customers that want those features towards their higher priced offerings. It's really that simple.

  6. Recent video I made with my GH5. Shot on the Leica 12-60 lens using a Ronin SC Gimbal. Graded in Resolve with Filmconvert and shot in Cine-D profile at 50fps with a Tiffen Black Satin 1 filter attached. Two years going and still think this camera is amazing.

  7. It may also be to appease the algorithm in another way; if they have different types of content then they can be penalised if everyone isn't interested in everything. If you never watch a channels vlogging content but always watch their proper content then the algorithm just sees that as you not being as interested as you were before, and in a puppy like attempt to please you it shows you content that you always watch all the way through, and may not show you their content again for a while ( or ever again ). How it is working is conjecture on my part, based on reports from a few people who have talked about it - Linus Sebastian is pretty open about how it all works on the WAN show, but also knowing how "algorithm" and "machine learning" is used as pixie dust in the tech world to make pretty old concepts seem magical and worthy of investment. It could be solved if there weren't so many people trying to game the system, it's probably hardest to game a system based on your watch metrics rather than what the content is purporting to be. Until an AI is smart enough to understand and categorise the content itself then it'll just continue to be a cat and mouse game.

  8. Hear me out: It's not GREAT. But I'm tired of hearing the same claims that Panasonic's auto focus (specifically the GH5) is "awful." Here is a two minute clip from a pro wrestling event I shot last night. I used the Panasonic 12-35mm with one area auto focus. Lighting is terrible in that venue, so please forgive that. I chose this to share because there's a lot of movement and action going on, and as you can see the auto focus does a pretty good job. I just figured I would share this to show what the GH5 is capable of in a real world, practical situation.

  9. It is not 'if' but 'when' : ) The new Xiaomi camera phone for under $3000, just not at two dozens of frames per second. Not yet. There are obvious human limitations at the senses level as far as vision concerns, so that's more about the point on: ...is it actually usefulness other than for cropping or large format screening or printing?

  11. Hold on, what new technology has Sony brought to the table in the last 5 releases.... Not a lot. The A7R IV is a hybrid cam if ever I saw one... Very much in both the stills and video camp, that one. The A9 II is clearly aimed at pros and sports, but again there is no reason why it shouldn't do better video. It doesn't even have S-LOG, like the first one. No new sensor. Barely any new features. May as well put a big sticker on it saying "don't buy me" The A7R IV and A9 II are headline releases, a great chance to show off their new sensor technology and next-gen video specs. From the A6400 onward, it's as if Sony pressed the pause button. A6400, A6100, A6600, A7R IV, A9 II all very boring and just 1 out of 5 with a new sensor is not a very good strike rate for Sony's most precious components. So either they are holding back to cement profit margins and protect the FX9, doing a Canon... Or they are holding back until the new advances are ready. I don't buy the latter, I think it's the former... otherwise we would have at least had X-T3 sensor in the A6600 and 10bit in the A7R II. It's 4000 euros! Sony staked their game mainly on specs... And now what reason do we all run out and pay $3000-$4000 for a new camera... The fact it has a different feel to the joystick?! You're the one pedalling conspiracies. Never do you seem to get round to supporting the daft theories with any proof, either. In one sentence you say 24p is left out due to a cheaper stripped down image processor... In the very next sentence you say you never claimed 24p was left out because of processing. A contradiction if ever I saw one. Back the drawing board for you!

Its a sure thing that the S will be supported as an update to all 5 users. I made the classic error of making estimates based on projections of future productivity. This is something I've seen so often, I'm surprised I fell into it myself (I was one of those scarred by the 3K Scarlet experience, circa '08-'11, still waiting). I think smaller, independent manufacturers can fall into the trap of being too enthusiastic and optimistic about their own speed and potential. Something key to the picture is that the P4K, by virtue of its gamut and range, revealed limitations that I had missed with the GH5. It has been crucial in determining what the process to make the new HDR EC space would be. That process will directly be ported to the S and 5, and I think I will be able to do it much faster.

  13. DUDE, people only paid for the Gh5 lut not the S! I dont recall Alex having a preorder for the S version. There shouldn't be anything to complain about. You used the word "entitled" in an earlier post. That's how the likes of you sound on this thread - "Entitled" for "Good money" It's beyond ridiculous. Like Jeremy said, Folks probably don't understand what goes into this. Let's Allow the genius to create, refine and continually develop the Luts in PEACE

  15. I mean the guy is only one person, and funding the camera rental, while nice, still doesn't pay the bills - which is where the time thing comes in, and Alex clearly has made a decision on what to do first based on the P4k demand. While that may not fit your needs, the Gh5s is becoming the minority, and I just think it is distasteful to act like he should just focus on what you want, because he said it is on the roadmap a long while back. He made no promises, and I am sure he has every intention of getting to it. I was simply throwing some sarcasm out there.

  18. I thought this might interest a few people, I find these things really interesting because it shows thinking and not just the final output. I think it's probably from the Sony Pictures hack a few years ago. EDIT; This was actually the link I meant to post but the other one is interesting too https://wikileaks.org/sony/docs/05/docs/Camera/FeedbackV1 1_Next Generation Camera v6.pdf https://wikileaks.org/sony/docs/05/docs/Atsugi/To_Nakayama_san.pdf Apologies if this has been posted before, I couldn't find anything.

It's okay Alex. I can wait for the BMPCC 4K Conversion, just go with the flow and since the firmware 6.6 hasn't released and not sure when will BM release it, I'm afraid they will modify the color science or improve the Braw and this may impact the making of P4K Lut . Just take your time do your best.

  20. YouTubers have been promoting the new Gnarbox 2.0 which looks kind of cool. IIRC it has ability to plug in an external USB drive for storage, as well as a USB port for an external card reader, and can do cool things like backup a card to the internal and external drive at the same time.

  23. Yeah you don't need to check your account every two minutes to be active on instagram. I really try not to check my social media much while on the job or even out with friends.

  24. I had the GH5 after the firmware update and it wasn't doing it for me. Definitely not bad but the XT3 is definitely superior, though even that isn't where I'd like it to be.

  25. i may not have explained myself properly. Personally i have nothing against instagram influencers, my issue, is people being paid to do a job then spend the next 8 hours checking their social status every two mins. i dont see that as productive. People might argue that its boosts morale and their more happy and productive but thats a load of crap.

The focus at the moment is the singular foundation for every camera; I foresee that once its out, things will move much faster. And the good news is that the foundation is, essentially, finished. So, not too much longer. V1, 23 months; V3, 11 months.. Very, very good. I'm not sure I fully understood, but it was pretty impressive work, and visually stunning

  28. You were making a good case until this statement. Canon removing 24p from current and probably future cameras is absolutely purposefully crippling them. There is no extra strain on the processor for 24p/25p versus 30p. It's predatory behavior from a company that is trying to push its customers around - not cool.

  29. Wide or not, I zoomed in multiple times, focused on six different individuals at different points in the clip, in poor lighting and it handled it perfectly. I've gotten virtually the same performance when using the 25mm f1.7 and the 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6.

  30. Hi, i been busy buy but i wanted to share this short film i did last year. The video is private, the film is now going thru festivals, so please don't make it public. But feel free to show with friends. This was shot with GH5 and the used GHAlex Clog conversion, then B/W film emulation.

  31. I don't think I agree. The traditional story arc is that there is some kind of stability which is broken by the inciting incident, and then the main characters spend the rest of the movie trying to recreate a new stability but they have to struggle and change to find it, which is where you mention embracing personal change. This kind of personal change does happen frequently in these movies - the love interest either doesn't think they're worthy or are too proud but there will eventually be some kind of kiss (or dancing), people will have their ideas challenged and will reframe them and become wiser through the process, etc. Where I think that we struggle with these things is that: They're not the focus of the movie - the focus of the movie is the fight with the external threat (as you say) so in a sense the movies are much more black and white than more human-centric films and in these films the characters spend comparatively much less time embracing personal change than they do fiercely rejecting it with a weapon of some kind, and They're cliche - we've seen these stories before and they're worn out and done to death. My teenage daughter can tell you the entire plot of an average Hollywood film after the first 5 minutes and get 80% of the plot points correct. Same with an entire TV series. She's not psychic - it's that Hollywood is unoriginal.

  32. Oops, I meant Avengers Infinity War, I haven't seen Endgame. I do think that the original Iron Man had a much more classical arc, where Tony's choices mattered and were not given, so I wouldn't be surprised if Endgame put more effort into that area to round out his arc. I think that the difference is that in the MCU, the choices are actually just character traits. In an extreme example, Hulk will always decide to smash because that's what he does. While the audience technically knows Luke will leave Tatooine because the story wouldn't exist if he didn't, his character is not set up from the beginning to do just that. Honestly, I can't say the characters in the original Star Wars resonate with me, though. It's a bare bones story used as an excuse for some of the most imaginative worldbuilding ever, with a much more interesting cast of places than people.

  33. In the XT3 menu, DCI is about 4K DCI which is the 4K cinema standard. 4k is about 4k UHD which is the TV standard. It's just a small difference of a few pixels vertical lines; nothing else.

  38. Then it went to bride.ru and now it's no longer single anymore. Sorry, I'll show myself out. ? __ But yeah, awesome challenge. Been a huge proponent of vintage Zenits! Especially the elusive 'Red 'P'' ones with focal length in 'cm' and special coatings. There's a good joke that 'when you see Red P, please go to the doctor!'. xD But indeed. The Jupiter-9 is dope! That's a wicked aperture. So is that of the TAIR-11A. Blades for days! But 135mm on a crop... good luck with that here. ? You know, both that TAIR-11 and MIR-1 won Grand Prix awards back in the day. Nice starry aperture formation on the Industar-61 L/Z 50mm f/2.8 Macro. If you really want something hilarious, get the tiny Industar 50-2. A 50mm f/3.5, it's sooo cute and inexpensive. Really always wanted the Helios 40-2... and they started making new batches again. But... 85mm (f/1.5). Used to shop a lot at my go-to Zenit dealership if you will, a well-kept secret for many years: https://www.ebay.com/usr/artemstore , but sharing is caring, no? Always superb condition, great details and info with the listings. Like... who knew about the 16-bladed Helios 44-3? I love browsing that place and learning a thing or two every now and again. You'll also still find a bunch of NOS (New Old Stock) lenses around on eBay. If you need adapters, I'd suggest Kent&Faith:

  40. I continue to explore F-Log grading with RCM without LUT. I think I'm getting better results (colors, highlights roll off). F-log is very good; Fuji LUTs are not so good. I'm more excited about the definitive release of Resolve 16.1 than the XT3 firmware update.
