My completely uneducated guess is that this could be any half-decent video / ENG camera. Considering the ratio of subject distance to background distance, even a comparatively slow zoom lens would still get that kind of background blur, so I don't think it's an especially fast lens.

The Blackmagic RAW highlight and shadow rolloff sliders affect the roll off of the "S" contrast curve you create with the custom gamma controls. If you add no contrast, they will do nothing as there's nothing to roll off. Increase (or lower) contrast and they will start to take affect. Choose "Extended Video" from the gamma selection in the Blackmagic RAW panel and you will see it's actually just a custom S curve with saturation preset via the custom gamma controls - you can start to modify it to your taste and the "gamma" automatically changes from "Extended Video" to "Custom". Or you can start from scratch with "Blackmagic Film". If you want the highlight/shadows sliders that were in DNG panel, those are not RAW specific controls and are still available in the 2nd tab of the primaries (same algorithm as found in DNG tab and same exact effect on Blackmagic RAW clips as DNG). If transforming to another log curve or colour space helps you get what you want faster, great! Different log curves like ARRI/Red or using highlight roll off sliders/presets don't give you anything you can't do yourself by using the curves tool etc, but not everyone is experienced with that stuff. Our log curves preserve the full sensor dynamic range though so the highlight roll off is completely in your hands, or you can start with another log curve if it suits. Something I tend to do a bit is expose for the native ISO in camera, then later in the RAW tab I switch to the highest ISO possible and compensate middle grey with the exposure slider which will lower contrast and have the most highlight roll off we offer in our log curves for a particular camera. I start with Extended Video from the gamma drop down and tweak the contrast/sat and highlight/roll off sliders for the shot. Adjust white balance/tint and that gets me 90-95% there with most footage.

Hero 7 is the glitchiest piece of electronic equipment I've ever purchased, not fit for pro work (all my friends who have it also have the same software issues, some even have other hardware related issues, I hope they have solved these issues for the 8). Hero 8 has no ability to replace the glass in front of the lens... I dunno what you do with your cams, but I use mine for, well... action! So if I scratch that thing I want to replace it! I replaced my Hero7 front 3 times already! This makes the Hero 8 a non-starter in my opinion. @hk908 Yes the stabilisation is rubbish in low light, don't even try it (actually turn it off, or your images will be toast)... it works pretty well in mid day light though. That all said and done, if anyone is listening... DJI cough cough... can you please make a 1inch sensor camera with better IQ and codecs!!! An action cam with the same sensor as the Mavic 2 with a fisheye lens for action sports (prores if possible!) would be incredible!!! I don't even care if it's twice the size. DO IT!!! p.s. Forgot to mention, if I could go back in time I would have bought the DJI action cam. Only thing I wish is that they wouldn't glue the lens in... DJI please let us swap that out if we want!

Lack of EVF and mechanical shutter won't do it any favours and no wifi/bluetooth connectivity will be a drawback. Set against that from my own personal point of view though is that, as with the Leica T/CL, the L mount cameras are great platforms for M lenses. With offerings from Voigtlander and particularly 7Artisans offering fast and compact M mount lenses, the FP will make a great combination as the overall form factor will be smaller even than the diminutive Leica CL despite it being full frame versus APS-C.

Yes, If it was 85mm for instance and the subject was about 10 feet from the camera, even at f8 the DOF would be just over a foot (APSC sized sensor) so anything well behind like in the above SHOULD be blurred.

IDK... To me the most or even only important is precise/smooth manual handling and focusing, and I'm expecting that aberrations will be enough well controlled. But, to be honest, although I understand problem of, say, distorted image at wide focal length, I didn't find that it is so important or distractedly noticeable in moving pictures and movie making for average spectators. What extremely bother me with Panasonic zooms is totally unusable (even for my pretty tolerable criteria) manual focusing. (Granted, I found that 12-35 II has pretty impressive stabilization.) Is it something improved with 10-25 and clutch mechanism, I don't know. Dzofilm's constructors are promising true parfocal design, and, all in all, true cine lens experience for relatively modest price. I guess that even for such newcomers price for FF or APSC counterpart lens will be more similar to Fujinon MK zoom 18-55 (which, of course, doesn't have such UW range). That's why I think that, contrary to death-prediction or afraid by many, it is gold time for m43 movie make aspiring shooters. Simply because of the most important thing - lenses. As much as I've found that Voigts 0.95 lenses are unique regarding value/specs/usability/affordability between all lenses on Earth, it might be that these Dzofilm zooms will match that mark. And as Anaconda already mentioned, they are actually pretty small, about 15cm and 1kg what is ideal for run/gun, considering way that I'm using it - combining handheld and quickly shoulder mounting rig. (I simply couldn't stand gimbals, although I tried them, bought and sold several times.)

I think that lens is designed for a very particular type of Japanese camera collector / user. The same ones who buy those mint cameras on eBay and the Leica collectors editions, and that I follow on Instagram. If you don't have much space, but a high disposable income and the urge to collect then £8k camera lenses might be just the thing for you! I wouldn't be surprised to see a beautiful leather bag for that lens and the Z7 that comes with its own cover bag to stop the bag getting damaged, they're not expecting professional users to buy it ?

That's probably a bad thing. If they don't use FF/S35 as the differentiator, then the FX6 will likely be missing a lot of other things. I'm thinking no 60p and no 10bit 4K, just like the FS5.

This would be a good resource to find out from I think. He does proper conversions so you could have yours done without having to scour for a pre-converted lens. http://aiconversions.com/index.html I'd also ask Leitax the question that if you do get it converted would it then be possible to use their conversion kit. If they say it is then I'd be tempted to ask the converter guy the question if you buy the Leitax kit could you send it to him and he does the whole job for you ? Other than that, I guess you'd have to find one of these typical non-ai conversion experts to see what they think

YouTube is capitalism at its finest. It has: the promise that everyone has the potential to participate and succeed rules that give success to the successful, essentially separating the 'rich' from the 'poor' no limits on what can be done, except for a set of 'rules' which are very badly managed, unevenly applied, and with "too big to fail" dynamics sensitivities to human behaviour where there is success to be found in trickery, meaningless amusement, as well as high art a system where value is in the eye of the consumer, so things like cat videos can become unexplainably popular visibility from outside it so that people can analyse and communicate about the market This is an online equivalent of a marketplace where value is determined by the customer, price is due to supply and demand, there is tinkering in the form of subsidies and sanctions, and perfect communication is claimed but never realised, etc.. YT is pretty close to a meritocracy, it's just that the merit other people recognise and reward doesn't make sense to you. I will reiterate this again - people are more different to each other than we tend to think, and therefore we get all excited when we don't agree with or understand what other people do and say.

Having used the z6, I personally don't know the criticism some have. I cannot say how much I like the quality I get out of it. This is an absolute beauty of a video shot entirely on the z6.

IMHO, a University degree is ONLY sensible for certain kinds of jobs, like a lawyer (Solicitor or Barrister), investment banker, engineer etc. And TBO, the degree does nothing even in those jobs, but employers are as stupid as employees and judge you solely on your university degree and your internship jobs (neither of which are truly proof of anything). For filmmakers, while the information and hands on is decent in university education, the price of the education could help you produce a few low budget Indies of your own. And you could learn almost every from YouTube and online resources (many of them free or at very low costs). Plus, it always helps to meet and collaborate with filmmakers on free gigs like short films, and gradually start moving up the ladder to larger ones and paid gigs. Also, since filmmaking is a group effort it is super important to have the right team. Most filmmaking education is way too expensive (as is every college education, to be fair).

Happy Valley - two-season box set (small town realistic police procedural investigation). Such good writing by Sally Wainwright; she seems to understand that not only does something need to be interesting, but the main characters need to be likeable too. Many times I find this is not achieved in TV drama - there's action, production values, hip cinematography, smart one-liners, but it goes for nothing because you just don't care about the people enough. It's almost as if aliens had written them and in a subtle way, got the wrong idea about us. The main characters in Happy Valley are ordinary, realistic, but we want to be with them because we care. So when we see a big close up of Sarah Lancashire with a bloodshot eye, it means something. This is old school drama at its best, with excellent actors to bring it out. Strongly recommended.
