  1. Hey everyone. Please check out my new short film Phantoms. Shot w/ Atlas Orion Anamorphics, Blackmagic Pocket 6K, and RED Dragon X 5K. For fans of Hitchcock and Bernard Herrmann.

  2. Stoked to review the EM5 mkiii. Been using only the EM1 mkii with the new firmware the last few months and for the most part love it. I wish it had the button layout of a Canon 1DX or something...but other than that...I love the image I get out of it. The EM5 mkiii seems like basically a mini EM1mkii with minimal loss in ergonomics and battery life for a smaller and more compact size. I'll take it. Love it!

  3. Pretty sure I have used two lens for this which broke the single lens rule but I can assure that both are Soviet. I made this a while ago as part of my street music passion project. If anyone can tell me the name of the song, much appreciated

  4. I love slider shots. And it feels like today there is an obsession with gimbals. Honestly the shots most people do with gimbals looks boring now a days, and even when trying to keep the gimbal steady, the camera obviously looks like it’s floating. I like the look of a slider. It looks like a gimbal moving, but without the “floating in the air thing.” They aren’t used too much, and one can make beautiful camera movements with one. There is something about the camera being locked down and moving compared to a gimbal where the camera is “floating and moving.”

  6. If we are talking fidelity, not subjective quality, then no, you can't get information about the original scene that was never recorded in the first place. I'm not sure what you mean by interpolation in this case. Simply going 8 bit to 12 bit would just remap values. I assume you mean using neighboring pixels to guess the degree to which the value was originally rounded/truncated to an 8 bit value? It is possible to make an image look better with content aware algorithms, AI reconstruction, CGI etc. But these are all essentially informed guesses; the information added is not directly based on photons in the real world. It would be like if you have a book with a few words missing. You can make very educated guess about what those words are, and most likely improve the readability, but the information you added isn't strictly from the original author. Edit: And I guess just to bring it back to what my post was about, that wouldn't give an advantage to either format, Raw or YUV.

  8. A couple of screen-grabs from a recent Sofar Concert I shot. Shot with the 70-200 2.8, all in 4k 10bit HLG, graded with Filmconvert Nitrate in a couple of minutes.

  12. According to Phillip Bloom who is testing Lumafusion 2.1, it should be released 'any day now'. I doubt it will have the changes you want but it will definitely have exporting xml for integration with Premiere and FCP.

  13. Yeah I think Snowbro is related to Magneto or something I'm on EOS R since release date and have never experienced a single freeze up. That said I admit I wouldn't feel comfortable using it as an A-cam to a paid gig. It has always been B-cam to even my C100 for video & 5D3 for stills. It definitely still feels like a Mark 1 product..

  15. Great work but... Ian, if I may, forget the 8 bits and the shoppy h264 like I did and buy a Blackmagic 4 or 6k and your life will change! The end of the flashy unatural neon greens... Raw and anamorphic is THE great combo!

  16. The proof is in the pudding ; -) 7T is impressively, I'd say, improved...? Here's another comparison of both 7T and 7 Pro with the original 7 version now: https://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idCamera1=300600&idCamera2=300622&idCamera3=300600 7 7T 7 Pro

  17. It's not only 8MP resolution and telephoto lens related. Take a look on this comparative sample coming from the 25.7-25.75mm (35mm equivalent terms) lens, even though not over the new 7T Pro version still to be provided by the usual gsmarena tool once not yet available there (iPhone 11 Pro Max 12MP sensor is introduced among them only as 3rd comparison term): https://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=9846&idCamera2=300622&idCamera3=300600 Same Sony IMX586 48MP sensor. 7T 7 Pro

  18. Sliders are not run and gun. Thats my issue with them. Gimbals are on the other hand. You can still mimic a slider with gimbal with some skill and moderate slowmo and maybe tilt axis post stabilization.

  19. I quite like it, but then I liked the EM5ii's I used to have a few years back. I won't go to m4/3 for stills but for video I think it's OK. Well more than OK, - the GH5 and BMPC4K says so. But won't be getting one as I'm more than happy with what's coming out of my XT3. Good on Olympus for making it though and hope they continue as a company as I like them.

  23. Theoretically a 4GB RAM is the sweet spot for Android OS, 6-8GB RAM for very demanding gamers... In Windows, for sure, 12GB can help depending on your post needs. For Android editing, I really don't know if for the level of apps available, 12 GB RAM can or not make difference if any. RAM management on new models running on faster processing power looks like to really help:

  24. Left Sound Devices for the last few years (had my own 552 straight out of film school for a while, but then later on went F4/F8n/Maxx), although I'd still use a MM1 now and then on a semi regular basis whenever I was lucky enough to use a boom op. But now I've returned, just today got the 1st 833 in the country!

  26. It isn't just about 10-bit 4:2:2, you need an external recorder to get any kind of log period with the Z's. As he points out with no internal rec709 or specific gamma profiles it's not really possible to paint in camera either. The other caveats he brings up are also quite jarring.. no metering for video?! aliasing/moire in N-log. Crop when shooting 10-bit..etc

  27. Just because Nikon says it isn’t a malfunction, doesn’t mean it isn’t. ?Where have I heard this crap before?

  28. I hate on Sony all the time but in the end the A73 is probably the best all around camera you can buy, especially for the price. If they trickle down their high end cinema camera color to their hybrids they will be unbeatable. Until then I am happy with Fuji.
