Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
Adept and 4 others reacted to Adam Kuźniar for a topic
A couple of quick screengrabs from a recent Jazz concert I shot. I must say I was super impressed with the GH5 on this one - not only it recorded for 1h30m straight with no issues but it did so on one single battery! Meanwhile Sony shooters that were there kept saying on the voice comms "I need to switch the battery" over and over again ?5 points -
Z-CAM E2-F6 (Full frame 6K) goes head to head with Panasonic S1H (test by Flannel Ninja)
andjo and one other reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Incredibly close between these two. I have a Panasonic S1H with me at the moment, and am getting to know it. Meanwhile the Z-CAM, I had the briefest of hands-on at IBC and will be posting some footage from it. Both cameras are capable of 6K H.265 internal recording from a full frame sensor, and both are at the lower price-end of the pro-cinema market. Flannel Ninja’s video above goes into really in-depth detail about the two, so do give it a look. Read the full article2 points -

Discovery I Made About Distribution A While Ago
kaylee reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
Any screen can show any aspect ratio. There will be either pillarboxing or letterboxing if the movie doesn't match the screen. If for some reason a screen does not support your file's aspect ratio (e.g. if you picked something non-standard), then you can manually add the black bars yourself. There is no technical reason why a movie should be incompatible with a theater because of aspect ratio.1 point -
Fast Action Low Light - Fuji XT3
Mackeral_Fillet reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
The difference would mainly be down to your shutter speed. Eg if you shoot 60p with a 1/60 shutter, converting to 30p will be pretty similar to shooting 30p with a 1/60 shutter. That is assuming your software drops every other frame instead of attempting to blend or interpolate stuff, which will look wonky. A good compromise imo is shooting 4k60 with like a 1/100 shutter. If you slow it down you get slightly more motion blur than normal, and if you speed if up it's just a little choppier.1 point -
The Z-cam looks really interesting, but it's already $1k more than the S1h, not to mention the necessary cost of still needing to add a monitor, and of course the lack of ibis and need for rigging to make it more suitably ergonomic, all of which the S1H can do out of the box, which is still a fantastic hybrid for still-use to boot. That being said, I'd love to see how much of an IQ and potentially DR-edge the Z-cam raw files give it over the Panasonic though. If it blows it out of the water, hopefully that can spur Panny in to giving us some raw-love as well. Gotta love competition!1 point

Sigma Fp review and interview / Cinema DNG RAW
Lars Steenhoff reacted to paulinventome for a topic
I've been pushing and pulling the 8 bit DNGs in lightroom, comparing to 12 bit FHD and also Sony A7sII stills. Whilst i can see the limits in the shadows, as there are no compression artefacts, then what you get is remarkably usable. Pushing something 5 stops over to compare shows the 8 bit DNGs really not that far from the Sony RAW and 12 bit versions. So i'm running to a 128GB SD Card (ProGrades) and have yet to really break the image. This is less to do with the sensor and more to do with no compression. That's the key, compression kills everything. So i don't know what you're planning on shooting at the moment i'm skewing towards 8 bit. 10 bit linear is no use whatsoever. 12 bit 24p would make a difference but i can't use 24p As i mentioned above, if we users can drop sigma a line and show how much we want 10 bit DNG with a linearisation table then that would be the sweet spot and i would externally record. If we're lucky they could experiment with writing 10 bit to SD card as well... And maybe do some other frame sizes... (4096 DCI widescreen!) cheers Paul1 point -

What is sold at the concession stand is literally more important than what you're worried about. Filmmakers are usually better off when they stop concentrating on odd details --and instead just move forward with creating something.1 point -
Panasonic s1h terrified presentation

Did someone take these guys dogs as hostages and force them to do this? They look terrified and awkward. I love panasonic and shoot gh5 daily - but this as a marketing effort is a bit tone deaf.1 point -

Yep he's a top bloke and knows his stuff. I am a bit jealous of that Cooke anamorphic in the video. Perhaps the stilted performance is down to internally thinking HOW we can make off with this lens afterwards. That's what I would be thinking.1 point -

Panasonic s1h terrified presentation
Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to kye for a topic
I blame the director... looks like they took people who were nervous and behind the camera by choice, and then filled their heads with all the "talk slowly but not too slowly" "stand up straight" "be funny but not too funny" "remember to do these 17 things..........." pieces of helpful advice their heads could hold, then probably finished it up by adding ".......and just relax and enjoy it!" *talent has spontaneous internal freak-outs*1 point -

Sigma Fp review and interview / Cinema DNG RAW
JJHLH reacted to paulinventome for a topic
I succumbed and bought one. I will test more fully over the next week. Ergonomically from a stills view it's very much a urgh. No EVF makes life very difficult for me but i do have the VF on order so maybe that will change things. Cine mode. DNG. It's heaven. This is all you need from a camera. I've side by sided UHD 8bit onto SDXC vs A7sII UHD Slog2/Sgamut and there's no joke. It's almost comical. The low end and the highlights are literally playing in different ballparks. What crushes the A7sII footage is the compression. Simple as that. So that 8 bit UHD is remarkably good. I'm pushing and pulling it and comparing to the same thing shot FHD in 12 bit and it's incredibly robust - so much more than it should be. Over the next week i'll push and pull properly. I got it as I needed a lightweight B cam to my Red for a shoot - so i need to intercut and i'll be finding it's comfort zones side by side with everything. So far the best resolve post in in ACES. My fear with going into any 709 space is that the camera native spectral response will be outside of 709. All Sony sensors push red way out and it's easy to see with bright red subjects. If you don't debayer into a larger colourspace then those reds get clipped or mushed into gamut. I don't know enough about DNG support in Resolve but visually into ACES appears much better. The only other valid option i think is Linear in, certainly none of the BMD Presets as they're for very different sensors. Cheers Paul1 point -
Works perfectly for me with panasonic lenses. Haven’t tried the sigma but I’m sure it’ll work well1 point

Canon RP is now $999
EthanAlexander reacted to newfoundmass for a topic
It's a sign that we're flooded with options, but it's really hard for me to say this is a good deal for video shooters. There are better options out there in that price range. If you want to go with Canon you might as well go with the 90D, at least you'll get DPAF in 4K. The better battery life alone is worth the extra $200, not to mention 120p in FHD.1 point -
Panasonic S1H review / hands-on - a true 6K full frame cinema camera
Vintage Jimothy reacted to crevice for a topic
Slanted lens did a comparison to the pocket 6k, see below. My take away is (my personal opinion, doesn't have to be yours) that the S1H colors look better and skin tones look better. Both cameras are similar and this comparison proves that anybody who claims the pocket 6k "destroys" the S1H just because of its popularity and codec are drinking the kool aid. The fact that the S1H can go toe to toe against a raw format, while also having IBIS, better battery, swivel screen AND almost more importantly for hybrid shooters also be a legit stills camera is a huge selling point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rghbaHoVRsk1 point -
