  1. The truth is what we make it? Wow. And "Jail?" This is the propaganda that infects populism and factless-based thinking. As much as I'd suppose you'd like it to be true, the GOP would probably be unable to launch a criminal indictment into Hunter Biden because it's only a wild-hair conspiracy and current investigations into Biden's role have him operating within the confines of the law. Truthiness vs. fact. Yarn on a white board is not criminality. Regardless if Biden was guilty as sin, the POTUS is STILL not allowed to break the law to satisfy his inclinations. It just doesn't work that way in a society based on law and order. Here's another fact: DT could have worked to launch an investigation above board and he probably could have pulled it off. You and I know he just wanted the political optics, not the reality. And please note that actual facts of corruption have led directly to jail time for those in the Trump orbit. Indictments. Trials based on evidence. Incarceration. That's just a fact. Ignoring that actual fact is wildly odd to me. As for Kavanugh, it's a he said/she said. Claiming your guy is right and she's a liar is an assertion. Could be right. Could be wrong. Don't ignore that the justice department overtly refused to follow up with the accusations. Might have led to absolutely nothing, but other witnesses were ready to testify and were not allowed to. There's a fact. Also curious how "not that bad" in your examples is atrocity level stuff. Biblical injustices. Sure it could always be worse. We could implode as a species. We might. That's not an argument for allowing (or even encouraging) people to act in bad faith. I'd rather it not get to that point, y'know? Which is my point. You push back at the small stuff because the small stuff adds up to a big result the more you let it slide. Ultimately I'm not interested in disagreeing with opinions, I just want a baseline for reality...and we ain't got it right now. It's slipping away. Really? I don't. I guess I can't make the leap. Too wide a chasm for me intellectually. Moreover I believe it to be amoral, if not immoral to do something like this. If one's values are based on particular conditions, how valuable are they ultimately?

  3. I gotta point out, from how I see it, that's really a crux of the whole issue exposed right there. Most of my friends are conservative. I used to live in Michigan, Justin Amash's district. I can disagree with Justin's POV but still respect his integrity. I appreciate my friends' integrity and willingness to engage me in discussion. Sad to say, I think our group are all outliers in this current world. The thing we do all agree on is that modern politics is not the discussion of ideas and ideals, but an exercise in weaponized psy-ops. And that's not healthy for a nation. Dr. Hill couldn't have been more on point in her impeachment testimony about that.

  4. There are no alternative truths, just distortions. A serial fraud, Trump is a master at deceiving the intellectually lazy. Having heard the testimony, if I were on a Jury I would find Brett Kavanagh guilty of rape. But I can understand how your ideology blinds you from the truth.

  5. Obviously this is a shit show, but thanks for pointing it out Andrew and not just shaking your head and keeping quiet. Almost as bad as the people who view democracy as a game of sports and want their team to win at all costs, are the "enlightened centrists" who think not participating in politics or taking a neutral stance somehow makes them better. Politics affects basically every aspect of your life, by choosing not to participate you're letting yourself be taken advantage of. And democracy shouldn't be about which party wins or loses, ideally society in general should be winning. In the case of Trump, if you divorce his words and actions from his brand (Republican) they're still at best unintelligent and contradictory and at worse dishonest and actively harmful. This would be true even if they were coming from a Democrat.

  6. This is bullshit. The left hates Trump for what he says. For his race baiting, for his sexism, for his climate change denial, etc. If he believed and acted in accordance with their beliefs, they'd speak well of him. It would require a drastic turn around to reverse the negative perceptions of him, but that's what your hypothetical is suggesting. It's a useless assertion anyway, since it's impossible to prove or even provide evidence for. As for your end justifies the means argument for Trump support, no matter how ignoble his conduct - have some goddamn integrity. It's true that many on tbe left mindlessly follow 'their guy', but there are also people out there with integrity, who are ready to criticise the deatructive policies of Obama or Hillary and the damage they've done to the world. Suppoting Trump on the other hand is excusing a lot of shitty human behaviour for the sake of 'your guys' holding power. Be careful of what you're undermimining and what you're going to lose.

  7. Bro, if what Trump says can't be taken literally, than nothing he says can be believed. See the problem, for the so-called leader of the free world? What's fine for talk-show hosts, TV personalities and wrestling buffoons doesn't work so well in the White House. And "liberal media"? Grow up! You really think Comcast and Disney are funding pinko-liberalism or a Marxist revolution? Even the explicit "liberal" advocacy found in places like MSNBC represents the corporate wing of the Democratic party. If Rachel Madow started advocating a Bernie Sanders program, she'd be fired in a day.

  9. This is all par for the course in the U.S. these days. Trump lies so extravagantly and so often that nobody bats an eye anymore. But of course the real story is how neoliberals up to and including Obama shredded the social contract in the U.S. and decimated the middle class, paving the way for someone like Trump to come sell snake oil. Similar things have happened in Europe, where centrist governments are falling like dominoes as people look for alternative solutions from the right and left.

  10. From John Gruber (Daring Fireball): “This is how Apple chose to unveil the packaging for the Mac Pro — in a poorly-shot overexposed propaganda video by the White House, scored with bombastic music that sounds like it came from an SNL parody of a Michael Bay film. Think about how it feels to work on that team at Apple.” “A low moment in Apple’s proud history, and a sadly iconic moment for Tim Cook. I hope avoiding those tariffs is worth it.” BEAUTIFULLY GRADED! Apple’s latest ad is a brave new direction for the Cupertino tech giant’s brand. To celebrate, I have created the EOSHD Tim Apple LUT. The favoured look of the US President is perfect for factory tour videos or nationalist propaganda. The LUT has a muted, washed, bleached contrast with no life and no joy in it. So if that’s what your scene demands, be sure to use the EOSHD Tim Apple LUT today. Download the Tim Apple LUT (.cube format, free of charge, but at cost to your soul, 100% tested with Final Cut Pro X, Premiere and Resolve) "I Can't wait to see What you guys creates [sic] with this fantastic LUT" - Donald

  13. Believe me, I'm well aware that there's a strategy to manipulate the media, but can we agree that any and all assertions from the POTUS are rarely "little stuff"? You know, I've heard that "not a big deal" "just a joke" argument as well. My reply is that lies matter, regardless. I'll always think it's demonstrably detrimental to the nation. Personal emotional truths are valued over factual evidence, and that doesn't lead to good places in a society that needs to be secular and inclusive to all its citizens. Now, you may disagree with that fundamental assertion of what the USA should be regarding evidential facts, and think my rationality is wrong from the start. One of my friends in particular has realized we're somewhat at odds with this attitude, given his religious devotion, so we know our perspectives --we've learned to cope as best we can. Nevertheless, hewing to some sort of ideals and reality is a thing that is important, especially in a person unable to hold onto evidential facts being the POTUS. Petty lies matter or nothing does. I'd also say, the whole "not a big deal, you shouldn't be so angry" shtick is an argumentative retreat I've hashed out with my friends too. It's a dismissal and avoidance of criticism; ultimately a sort of "shoot the messenger." Maybe tolerating criticism is just something that's not as easily shared if you're a right-leaning personality? It often seems that way in my experience. I mean, we had some fun arguments when Obama was POTUS, but I personally really never cared too much about allowing such criticisms. To be fair, I also hang with some hard-core liberals that are annoyingly intolerable with their skewed attitudes about stuff. Like nails on a chalkboard. So, yeah, the "angry" thing as a broad brush? Not sure about that nor the fairness of the attitude. Never mind that I'm...as my mom would often say... not angry (with my country or POTUS) I'm disappointed. So, here's a good example of what I wrote. The plain and simple fact is that the plant was initiated under the previous administration. By your reasoning, Barrak Obama should be the one to take the credit. (and to be clear, I don't really believe the POTUS should take economic credit for everything) Yet, DT did. His assertion is a lie, the extrapolation you've drawn from it is questionable ("some companies have changed direction" would like to see your notated examples on that, as I'm aware of companies that are doing more of the same they'd be doing otherwise, but now with stock buy backs, which can be easily argued that hurt the economy overall), but here you are offering him praise rather than skepticism. Like I'm saying, either the facts matter or nothing does. It's how DT can get away with "No Quid Pro Quo!" with his supporters even though that assertion is in direct conflict by openly admitted fact from those that run his administration. This is what manipulation and propaganda looks like and it's not a small thing.

No need to overthink this patching job. Get some PC-7 or plumber's epoxy and try it on a hole. If it needs reinforcing, drill it out and try it again with reinforcement. Plumber's epoxy is more of a hard putty, so it will hold it's shape when curing (which only takes around 5 minutes).

  15. It's good that we can have a conversation about different view points. "This is somebody who wants to take credit for something he had no involvement in. He merely walks up the doorstep to endorse it. " I think that DJT can take some credit for Apple's decision to continue to do some manufacturing in the USA. I am also not American, and have no dog in this race. The president invited many CEO's of large companies to discuss the reasons behind them moving their manufacturing offshore, in an attempt to find out what the issues were, and what his government could do to reverse the trend. And through a combination of rolling back red tape, reducing taxes, and threatening to penalize those companies if they continued to act unpatriotically, he got some good results, and some companies have changed their direction, and are bringing jobs back to America, at the expense of the Chinese & other global players. That is exactly what his predecessor did not do, and in fact, his predecessor was one of the driving forces behind American companies offshoring in the first place. So yes, I do believe (however misplaced, some of you may think my rational is), that DJT does deserve some credit.

  16. Always seems like a compromise of both designs to me. Given that a monopod minus head weighs so little, I find it better just to pack both and share a head between them. That has it's own compromises - no quick release swap for example, but seems to work best for me.

  17. I am running a MBP with SAPPHIRE AMD Radeon RX 470 in external enclosure eGPU style. It connects via a Thunderbolt 3 cable that charges the laptop as well as connects to the eGPU. It is plug and play, with the exception of you have to eject it before pulling it out (I did that by accident once and the graphics was all glitchy until I restarted - oops!) but is pretty nice after that. Resolve can auto-detect the GPU in the MBP and the eGPU and splits load between both (not that the MBP one is much help) and I have been gaming with the AMD eGPU as well on my external 32" panel. I was a bit sad that the Nvidia cards weren't supported but went AMD because I just wanted it to work, and it does. The bang-for-buck ratio of the Nvidia cards was better than AMD, but the new Radeon RX 5700 card is about on par (IIRC) so I think that performance gap has closed. I'm not a fan of manufacturers forcing customers into closed ecosystems, but overall my eGPU experience hasn't been too bad.

  18. I, for one, am going to vote for Bernie Sanders again in the Democratic primary. I actually believe him when he tells me his values. I believe he values human rights. I believe he wants to stop the suffering in the U.S. that is caused by oligarchs manipulating the political system to unfairly hoard an increasing share of the national wealth while removing the social safety net for the vulnerable part of the population. He wants to halt climate change. And he wants to make the world more peaceful. In short, he's a warrior for justice.

  19. Vested interests change Wikipedia pages, and officially so too. Even pointing out wrongs you get stone walled. Things are written in medical pages from the standpoint of certain people aswell, reinforcing certain conspiratorial conservative behaviours. The BBC are very left wing biased. If you are left wing they look neutral, but it has gotten so bad that right wing people loose sight of the non biased things, seeing balanced neutral reporting as even biased. What's happening in, America, is an indication of how broken it is, particularly the right. Bernie Sanders looks a credible opportunity, but he is on the margins there, in a country too right and big business, rather than him being just left of central politics, or a bit left of centre (I don't know enough about him, but he seems to be caring about actual Americans). Just remember that to Hitler, Starlin, and many dictators, 90% of everybody else looks like extremists, because they were extremists.

  20. This deliberate mess the ruling class has gotten us into is a lot more dangerous than most people want to believe. We have 3 options: 1) Revolution 2) Elect genuine community representatives to our parliaments, get money out of politics, and abandon the 2 party system. 3) Extinction Anyone who thinks extinction is a joke really needs to read more; climate change, the rise of fascism, and diminishing resources are creating a perfect storm. Revolution is the same shit going around in circles, the working class takes down the ruling class only to end up under the thumb again, take China for example. We need to evolve, and fast. The only workable solution is option 2. Hacking the system will be hard, but sitting on the fence and doing nothing guarantees one of the other 2 options will transpire. As filmmakers we can play an important part in this process. I made campaign films for 3 independent candidates in this year's Australian federal election, one of whom was elected (see below). There's a growing movement in Australia for grassroots independent representation, and we'll be much more organised at the next election. Left and right is a construct made to divide and conquer. We need to focus on the issues that connect us instead of ideology, otherwise we're all screwed. Filmed with a 5D MK3, Magic Lantern raw 1080p upscaled to 4K, and Leica Elmarit R 35mm and 90mm vintage prime lenses. Edited and graded in Resolve + Filmconvert + http://www.colorghear.com/

I'd suggest trying to get a material that has roughly the same properties as what the case is made of. It should be easily googlable and likely you can buy it in a hobby shop or ebay. The point of that is partly that Pelican would have chosen a well suited material, but also you want something that is as similar as possible so that it expands and contracts the same when heating up and cooling down and is a bit flexible if dropped etc. I'm not sure about expanding foam or just using epoxy but if they've got the right properties then go for it. I'd imagine there'd be lots online about it.

It’s not a judicial setting and why I think impeachment, as laid out in the constitution, is fundamentally broken. Impeachment will never work when facts and honorable behavior are not required in the process. Trumpers are a cult and they would rather drink the koolaid to the end then look at facts.

  26. If it has better sound than the current Videomic Pro and the Deity D3 Pro it’s a win in my book and is worth the $230 they are charging for it. Criticizing the product for not being pro when as a audio pro you KNOW exactly what quality you need, is a bit weird. Cheap mics are anything below $1000 basically. I have a feeling Curtis’ Review will be positive and a highly recommended buy for people with a $300 budget.

  27. Not sure if you think Trump is playing me or whether Wikipedia is, with their brutal facts. Then again if that muck-spout Trump set out to fool me, it wouldn't be a very good tactic, as a Brit who can't even vote in the US election... I am shocked looking at the TV coverage of the impeachment, how partisan both sides are in a judicial setting. In a criminal case, you would have the police and witness evidence. That should be happening here in a court with an impartial judge. Where I don't agree, is that I do think he has a case to answer. What he is alleged to have done fits perfectly with his character and tactics overall. Quid pro quo got Trump to where he is today. Well I suggest you start paying attention. You can't argue with the facts. Facts are not a matter of opinion or bias. If I were to say the earth is round, you don't argue with it. Same when I say Trump is a brighter shade of orange than a tangerine or an international embarrassment for the United States. These aren't opinions.

  29. High irony. It's you he's playing. His own supporters. He plays you like a fiddle, plays to your needs. You needed an alternative to liberal elites, socialism and you wanted someone to stand up to China, bringing back the blue-collar jobs in the process. In principal there is nothing wrong with this. Trump supporters are a bit like Brexit supporters, as in some had heartfelt concerns, genuine needs not being met by the current system, genuine reasons for voting "out" of a globalist system that wasn't working for them. The tragedy is nobody really stood up for these people in a constructive way, and then social media came along and really fucked things up further, polarising and distorting the truth. Hipsters all over, in gentrified neighbourhoods, in every coffee shop, self obsessed, never looking up from their Macbooks to even notice there was a problem. Ignorance all around. A complete failure on both sides to see the point of view of the other. Divided we fall. So when Trump comes along he fills the vacuum perfectly. Like Boris Johnson in the UK, he is patriotic, he's a fixer, he wants to get things done and unite the country, and he wants to win big. The art of the deal, not a politician, not a robot reading from a script about LGBT+ rights, someone who you could imagine actually running a factory, defending a house, or fighting off a communist invasion. Like in the good old days. Someone you could imagine walking in through the doors of a factory like Apple's, giving a rousing speech about how the US is the most powerful country on God's green Earth, and then overnight the profit doubles and he goes for a beer with the workers done the pub. Trump. HAHA Fooled by a gameshow host. Pretty much everybody internationally laughing at you, pointing, saying "how could you be so stupid to elect this guy". How does it feel? I'd be angry too. It's a massive let down. Not just for you as a Trump voter but for me as a Brit, with the close relationship and culture we share as two powerful Western economies. We are going to fall like Rome. Trump filled a dangerous vacuum left by Obama, and he did it 100% for self-serving reasons. Supercharged by the internet, a faction on both sides has become radicalised. In the UK we have the Labour party's swing to a hard-left, socialist party. The Conservative centre-right has been shown the door, and we have our own far-right movement at the heart of government to contend with, along with the same kind of corruption to go with it... The Russian inception deep into business and communities. I am in the centre. You can't be played if you arm yourself with the facts. But it is a lonely place to be in the world today. Nobody wants to hear you. The system is broken. People died to defend our democracies, but now we've been disenfranchised from within, locked in a Hobson's choice death spiral where no third party or independent can break through or turn things around - no evidence based or factual based running of the government is possible any more. It is the same in the US, and it is clear even after a few years in a chaotic and corrupt self-serving government that Trump still has millions fooled. That is extraordinary to me. Where are you getting your news from? Social media is now the largest and most powerful publisher in the world. So probably from that. It was a social media phenomena that first got Trump's campaign noticed and the traditional media talking about it. It is social media that keeps him there. If you are rich and powerful enough, and opportunistic or famous enough, as was Trump, then you can come in and pretend you are out for the workers and the patriotic, wave the flag, lie a lot, grab pussies, throw up the reality distortion field, take the Russian money, smash the government and claim the credit for Apple building computers in their existing 2013 factory. In the UK we throw rocks at politicians at every turn, rather than nurture strong and honourable leadership, we don't encourage talent to go into public life, they earn far more at private companies, in scientific projects, running their own business, creative sector, filmmaking, you name it... We need more good people in politics but it is not happening. The tribal arguement between left and right makes a collaborative cross-party atmosphere where good ideas on both sides can be executed, impossible. We have had this for decades. Then when the system turns even more toxic and tribal we double down with aggressive questioning, asking why nothing is performing, why the health service is broken, why promises keep getting broken and on and on... until we end up with such a poor calibre of politician they end up doing severe harm to the interests of the country, then we wonder where it all went wrong. The US and UK are a democracy and we, the people, get what we deserve. Wake the fuck up.

  31. You might want to read "The Paranoid Style in American Politics", for a useful description of Trump's style of politics, and that of the Republican party. Or for a more modern update, consider the views of two "fellows" of the American Enterprise Institute -- a right-wing think tank -- who explained what the Republicans were as of 2012: "The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition." But I know that's music to you! Just the chattering of libtards, right? What global warming? It's cold outside! And so what if the poorest and most backward areas of country -- the ones which receive far more Federal dollars than they put in, thanks to the much richer liberal states -- are the big Trump supporters? That just proves they're virtuous! Thing is, while we don't mind paying your bills (there's nothing wrong with "welfare"), it's galling to be told that we're the ones who love the nanny state, when it's the American south, Trump country, which is on the government tit. Then again, if you believe Obama was born in Kenya and the famous server is in Ukraine, you may have difficulty distinguishing credits from debits. Or maintaining any notion of "good government" or a decent civil society. Ah, Jonesy.... This fantasy world of yours. You might want to try Guatemala or Nigeria, if you hate big government. And take your camera! They love log footage in hot libertarian paradises.

  32. One of the most problematic aspects of this whole issue is the reason for Apple to boost Trump, as stated in the Bloomberg video you linked: Apple wants carve outs from Trump's December tariffs so they can keep manufacturing in China without taking a hit to their bottom line. It's ironic (since the Austin announcement was about American manufacturing jobs) and it's also crony capitalism at its worst.

  33. The corporate tax cuts have had no positive impact on capital investment by corporations in the US, which is actually declining. Corporations were flush with cash before the tax cut and had plenty of money to invest if they so chose. (The money was also not located in other countries except virtually via accounting tricks.) Corporations have used the tax cut largely for stock buybacks. Trickle-down economics never grows the pie, but that's not the intent anyway. The intent is to give a larger slice to the wealthiest.

It is good that we have so many options these days. Why you sold the 600? I do not see the Deity as a serious upgrade, very different mics anyway. The Sanken is the feel good hit of 2019 for me. So practical and good performing that it has canceled most of my mics that I had to sell a couple already. I do a (TV) prime time comedy right now and it is used like 80% of the time, it is that good. Balance your budget carefully and you may find room for a better mic. Money spend on sound are money well spend. A good sounding microphone now, will be a good sounding microphone in 20 or 30 years, and there are no new mounts or better focusing systems to render them obsolete! It is no coincidence that most of us soundies keep an 416 with us all the time, a design of late 60s, that will work no matter what, when other more natural sounding but more delicate mics can fail. I know some people still using their 70's 416 T-12V! Another thing is wind protection, that is may more important than the mic itself if you shoot outside! I would prefer a 500$ microphone on a Cosi, than a 1500$ microphone on a foam and fur setup! So, I would strongly recommend the Cinela Cosi, check the video when they use it with the GH5, this is the Cosi Medium which is the right one for the Sanken. the best production sound source on the internet right now, hear it from a real working professional with some experience on his shoulders. My opinion is, either go really cheap, because it doesn't really matter and if one cares for sound can find other ways to improve its game (e.g put a microphone like the 600 on a stand where it matters more), or spend more and get something that will not change next year.

Lots of propaganda out there. Mind you Obama made it legal when he repealed the Smith act. Trump will win in the end, has the backing of the military, it’s really CIA vs NSA duking it out. Let’s focus on what we love to do cause in the end our voice is but a piss in the wind.
