Why 8K TV is a non-starter for PC users
KnightsFan and 2 others reacted to Eugenia for a topic
It is also my opinion that VR is the future of movies, and that 8k will help there. VR movies will also bring some interaction, which is the No1 thing youngsters report when they are asked why they prefer video games over movie entertainment.3 points -
Sigma Fp review and interview / Cinema DNG RAW

Thank you Zeng; I need the cameras in hand, as the measurement phase is the trickiest, now that Gen4 is figured out. The code is based around a sample system I made that has ~1k samples per slice, with ~40 slices, and the measurement conditions are defined; often it must be redone several times before everything is sorted out with a new camera. I will move with considerably more efficiency to support new cameras, now that Gen 4 is finalized.2 points

Sigma Fp review and interview / Cinema DNG RAW

I've done a bunch more digging. I think you're right however i have errors in highlights now with 12 and 10 bit - compared to 14 bit stills and also magenta single pixels. However i am trying to work out whether this is data or resolve. I have a feeling it might be resolve. I am perhaps going to revise my comments about 14 vs 12 vs 10 bit. Some initial tests suggested to me that the difference was lopping off 2 bits and a couple of stops between 14 and 12. But after some more testing now i simple cannot tell the difference between full range 12 bit and full range 14 bit. My exposure is +1 on sky and shadow. And both 12 and 14 bit (and 10) pull back full detail in clouds despite all showing as fully clipped. As a control i compare to Lightroom and what i've realised is that in lightroom where there is no highlight option actually it is taking full advantage of that ALL the time seamlessly. Resolve and Lightroom match. This is suggesting to me that perhaps the lopping off of 2 bits is in the shadows. Yet between 14 and 12 i cannot break. Whereas 10 is clearly lacking detail. I have no method here at the moment to test dynamic range (aka i can't find my wedge chart) So not 100% sure at the moment and more tests to be done. But 12 bit is very robust - or 14 bit stills are hampered somehow. cheers Paul2 points -
aren't you just banging your head against a wall with all this talk of arri ? just get a russian nap or cinelux and be done with it ? i could redraw on the mortgage and get a 2nd hand ARRI Master Anamorphic prime lens or a new tractor ? probably neither will happen until it rains2 points

Might try this if you can copy the files from the T5 to your iPad: https://www.addictivetips.com/mac-os/mount-iphone-and-ipad-in-finder-as-local-usb-disk-drive-mac/ Good luck ...1 point

What the lighting craftsman Vittorio Storaro, master of light and shadows, has to do with it? Since ever or just nowadays? In some other perspective more technical perhaps, as you wish, but in 5 letters to testify how the Netflix man/woman is damned ignorant: 12-bit. Here's his English ; -)1 point

Can you install Data Rescue on your mac? Not to rescue your data, but in my experience it can read anything even if Disk Utility can't, and you can try to mount it from there. I think there's a free version that limits the amount you can backup, but like I say, this is to see if you can mount the drive. https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10259/data-rescue1 point

I see you concur, I knew it, so I've written ; ) I don't think it is a quality of my broken-good-English BTW, we're not discussing linguistics over here, I even think Shakespeare would still struggle to probably make himself understood a lot of times by many of you on these contemporary boards anyway LOL : ) What the hell Vittorio Storaro has to do it? Well, English is not his native language either, light craft is though ; ) Exactly where such reputable camera approved lists don't belong ; -) As simple as that : X On The Waterboys front, this will lead a few time while yet, it's a project for a long run. I tried my luck with the band road manager Nick_Robinson a couple of years ago, three years back to be more precise. Got to succeed but vetoed a higher level above by Paul_Charles, the novelist and band's manager too. Without mention, Mike the leader himself is not entirely dedicated to other than music, poetry and common distasteful by some populism on politics : D so seems pictures don't usually tend to break too much his heart as happens with other fellows like us here. Only now we had now the chance to officially be accredited as press next to a direct personal contact with the band members since 2001 by me at least (despite the fact I am Mike's fan from minute one, that is, mid 80s of last century in my particular case). The goal is getting their green light on a doc project to pursue for next years following up the band's concerts road map to come. Even though, the idea is to have their official acknowledgement, we might pretty well end as unofficial if necessary or that would strictly depend on us. That's the way to be indie means : P Isn't content the king, after all? Or only as self-proclaimed over the forums surrendered to somewhat stupid camera lists approved anyhow by a decent smartass airhead fellow at the office...?! : -D You'll obviously be able to update such information to be available online in the future. Thanks for your interest, a reciprocal one BTW (E : -)1 point

X-T2 user seeking Upgrade Advice
Mark Romero 2 reacted to SRV1981 for a topic
Thanks! It sounds like the Sony A73 is the best single camera for my needs. I will look at some video clips and read some reviews before going to try it myself. I would love to look into the X-T3 but worried about lowlight. Panasonic S1H seems excellent but AF sounds terrible?1 point -

If I remember correctly, the third-gen camera systems had a major overhaul of the camera's operating system, so I know that certain apps didn't work in gen-3 cameras. (You think they would have overhauled the user interface as well, but apparently not.)1 point -

Btw. - has anyone found a way how Resolve (16.1) properly recognizes the Sigma fp raw video files as CinemaDNG files, instead of DNG sequences with separate .wav files?1 point -

Amazing job. Wish you could do it for more cameras. I could provide you with samples of most of them side by side with Alexa, and you just do the math. How about it? :).1 point

IIRC, In Canada they released new drone laws a year or two ago saying that the drone couldn’t be flown within a sizeable distance of significant locations, or any people or animals. Good luck finding a location that isn’t within a km or two of a single other living thing. Most of the Canadian photography youtubers released videos about selling all their drones about a month after that. Drones will become yet another thing that governments and large corporations can routinely use but the general public are effectively blocked from using.1 point

That's why people came up with all those DIY anamorphic adapters. Not only you feel some sense of a personal achievement when you finally get it working and looking good, it also saves you a lot of money.1 point -

We were talking about it several times. Slog2-sgamut3.cine is good most of the time, even with deep blue sky. Slog2-sgamut is much nore sensitive to banding issues. Both will be problematic in premiere, but sgamut3.cine is fine in resolve. Im talking about correctly exposed 4K footage in proper WB. Underexposed 1080p sh*t with wrong WB will band like hell, the dark footage is noisy, which is smearing due to noise reduction artifacts, which will cause banding. Just keep everything important higher than 40IRE. Know your camera.1 point

Without giving too much (or indeed anything) away at this point @xzobinx and @scotchtape, what you see in this initial proof of concept and what the reality will be in a couple of months when the "real" version happens will address both of these aspects. As I said early on in the thread after @Andrew Reid revealed the original prototype, it was very much a jumping off point for where this would end up. Hopefully for the better or course !1 point

Why don't you focus on the facts. The factory first went into production for the 2013 Mac Pro. Trump is claiming he is responsible for opening the factory in 2019, so he can take the credit for other people's hard work, making his 'economic policies' look like they're working (they are not BTW). Who has a log in your eye?? It's not me in England I can assure you of that. Let's see if you can make one single follow-up post that addresses that fact of the factory opening. Let's see if you can do it. I don't want a load of emotional hurt posturing or diverting tactics. Just answer me a very simple question. Did your President intentionally mislead - yes or no?-1 points
