I posted a few clips from a shoot I was on in Guatemala on social and had a bunch of people ask me to show how I coloured one of the clips so I decided to put a quick tutorial together. Thought that I would share here in case anyone is interested. Doesn't seem to be that much on YT for Davinci Resolve.

Long term? NONE of them are an investment! Give it a couple of years (ok maybe 10 or so) and a little device that includes a phone will do it all. To me, it would depend on what lenses a system has or can use and it is getting to the point that they all can (or close to it). You need to try a few yourself.

I don’t know that much about the Cookes but have worked with them a bit, primarily in post. In my experience the S4is are an ideal combination of modern performance with nice rendering while the S2/S3s are pretty wild with a lot of strange aberrations but they look great. I’m not entirely sure what he means in that video, but I think it’s a preference for slight barrel distortion. He’s expressed preferences for Cooke lenses over Leica lenses in the past because the Cookes have more distortion. That could be what’s going on here, too. At 3:43 on the square grid you can see that the barrel distortion from the Cooke does in fact “bring the center of the image forward." How does that have to do with a larger front element? I don't know.

You might want to look at the following video ... in it the Rasp Pi 4 enables much more robust connections for the iPad Pro ... look at time 8:00 on as sharing and backing up video files from multiple T5 drives is discussed. Sounds like a very portable small addition to obviate the need for a laptop in many cases:

I'm wondering if Apple is planning on implementing an eject function in the future. If you have the keyboard and hold down the command button, you see all the shortcuts, there is one for eject, but it does nothing at the moment. I've had issues with drives early on in the iPad OS beta but nothing since then, I just unplug the drives BTW.

3.55.1 or thereabouts sounds about right. it looks like your on to it ? from the little i have done with my elmoscope it looked too wide or the black bars were too wide to be the more popular 2.40. If popular is the correct word.

I just conducted a very thorough analysis (I measured the height and width of the thumbnail image above with the screen capture thingy) and it was 3.334 so yes, somewhat wider than normal! The Atlas Orion Anamorphic T2 32mm they used is a 2X, and if you film 16:9 that's 3.55:1 and 16:10 it's 3.2:1 so maybe they did 16:9 with the lens and then cropped the edges a little?

i'm pretty sure there is some kind of mr smith artificial intelligence residing on the dark web whose only function is to crush anything sent youtubes way ? back on topic, i have to wonder, to me it looks wider than the normal 2.40 aspect ratio. The black bars top and bottom look too wide for me, maybe i am wrong. I presume that was a styling choice perhaps ? i do enjoy the anamorphic look but i think maybe that was too wide. i really liked the first 15 seconds, i think its time to revisit some scenario that involves matches, empty drums and some suitable substances that are a little bit volatile. Of course It will have to wait till the current fire season and total fire ban is over however. better pencil something into the diary ?

I had a very similar problem with a T5 a couple of months ago (admittedly when ipadOS was in beta). Ipad wrote to the T5 but then neither my PC or laptop would recognize the drive. The data wasnt critical so I reformatted the drive and it was ok. Thought it might be an Apple/Windows problem. The Gnarbox 2 is a great piece of kit by the way.

I share this sentiment. I do think the S1H is an amazing cam though, despite its size. I’ve held one and it just feels solid and trustworthy, like any good tool should. But at the end of the day, for me anyway, is what is most convenient to use and handle with me on my adventures. It’s MFT, always.

They are already hitting limits with the gyroscope sensitivity (Olympus has said the electronics are needing to be so sensitive that the earths magnetic field becomes a problem) on the latest IBIS tech in the EM1X. Adding this “smart” EIS in addition to the IBIS seems like a logical improvement. I would say it’s pretty high on the list, if not at the top. People I know bought the GH5 for the unlimited 4K recording in ALL-I and the IBIS. People buy Olympus for the supreme ability to hand hold a 800mm lens and nail shots of wildlife. It allows something like the tiny EM5 mark 3 to take hand held 50MPx high resolution shots with slower moving subjects. I would say the super power of MFT is the IBIS. It was designed for it from the birth of the mount. The smaller sensor makes it much easier to reach the 7.5 stops of stabilization in the EM1X, for example. I doubt it’s as easy to do that with a larger sensor. In the “bigger is better” days of camera sensors we live in today it would be wise for MFT manufactures to play the strengths of the system. Stabilization IS the big one. I could imagine a day where a GH6 or a EM1.3 is capable of shooting 6K video with near Steadycam levels of stabilization with near zero levels of fuss—or taking 50MPx or 80MPx handheld shots for portraits, street, wildlife, or landscape from a compact “small”, “low” MPx sensor that has amazing readout speeds with zero or very subtle motion artifacts. A smaller sensor is a trade-off. Sony at least has mitigated the lowlight sensitivity / high ISO performance of MFT sized sensors. What is left is now trading shallow depth of field for all of the things I stated above. I’ll take that trade. /rant Sorry for the thought dump.

Just relating my humble experience, I've used my T5 on my ipad pro, not for editing, but for file transfers, to and from. The first use, I pondered about how to perform a proper eject from the ipad, so I just always power the ipad off. Been working okay for since a long time now. Oh, I've done this many times for my family members iphones too.

I am not a huge fan of the flares, they can be distracting especially if over done (ahem star trek). That said I love the other characteristics they can have, especially the more funky lenses.

Everything looks like shit on youtube tho, 4k uploads are a lot better though, even if you watch them in 720p, they almost look better than 1080p uploads in 1080p.

I think it's all subjective. Fincher adds barrel distortion to get the anamorphic look in Mindhunter. Otherwise I've never heard of it, but it's not a crazy idea. I wouldn't worry about it, though, these are relatively small differences. Adding it in post might mess with the texture of the image or soften it a bit too much, there's a reason Mindhunter is shot on 6k or 8k Red or whatever. But it's an interesting idea. Overall I think the Xeen holds up really well in that comparison even as-is, but there's no reason not to try it if it looks good to you. I do think lenses have different amounts of distortion at different focus distances but don't know enough about this to know if it would make a difference.

How important is (wide) coverage for you? 55mm on fullframe with this lens is hard to imagine, aps-c or smaller would make more sense. In general, chubby and short with big elements provide widest coverage. That's why the 8z variants (16H, B&H, Sankor Anamoprime) are so popular (mind the crazy edge distortion though). He is talking about a smaller lens (probably 16S or 16A). The new Sirui might actually be an interesting point of entry too... cheap, sharp, good flares imo, compact, no rigging issues and single focus. It's just that the squeeze is low (1.33x) but perhaps an oval aperture mod might improve the bokeh. I am waiting for @Tito Ferradans's review. He will surely address it's strength and weaknesses.

Twas the night before launch and a world's first for any app or device was stirring..... Really pleased to reveal that the PBC is fully compatible with both the Pocket4K and the Pocket6K. And yes, that also includes focus control.

2.5K looks bad on 4K screens though, lots of smear and macro blocking especially on YouTube - and you can still select streaming quality manually. Or chrome which can be color managed in chrome via about:flags url: Force color profile Select sRGB (standard screens) or DCI-P3 (Mac and OLED) to enable color transform. Still a bit pink as Alex already mentioned.

Are you trolling? Because you are asking for a camera that hardly exists. You want clean ISO at 12800 for stills and video and with great continuous autofocus. The only camera that would suit you is the A9 or A9ii, but then the colors are wonky and you won’t get the picture profiles. The Z6 is great in low light with regards to both video and still (I own one) but it’s far from good enough to continually track focus in low light scenarios with erratic subjects.

As you can see in my post above: it does not matter if it's above noise level and below clipping. If you dont want to do much work in post, use the wolfcrow method. Which is basically expose the skin to 70 IRE.

Yeah, overall I'm pleased, but man, the simplicity of working with the NX1 will be MISSED. I'd go on about what the NX2 coulda been, but I'd just sound like a grumpy old man. And for 80% of what I do, it kicks ass, but I need to streamline my stuff and I worry about a 3 year old body (though it's functionally and aesthetically like-new at least). I did find how to set the shutter for video, so I'll get a wired remote for rigs. For me, the most kickass thing about the NX1? Stick it on a gimbal with that $150 kit zoom (16-50 OIS), turn on the AF, and just run around a factory or shoot a music video - the AF really rocked. But then, shooting NX1 in an industrial setting at 1600 ISO could be a tad rough, but I used to drag an 8' Kessler crane to those shoots and, no more. I could get 5 to 10 shots in with the time I'd do one with the Kessler, just an astounding combo. It's the only NX native lens I got. F me but I hope the 50 can compare. This is one of the last "cool" things I shot with the NX1; no budget, no time, just show up and throw something together... got a couple hours, did takes with the gimbal and then shoulder mount with a big Nikkor 28-70. Had no "concept" ideas so I did takes with shitty magnifying glasses taped to the lenses, hung a big velvet drape and 2 lights, and a lot of just running up to the subjects - like running - with the gimbal. I grabbed a couple props when I was running out the door (a chair and a big book). Effin' nuts, and you can see the issues with 8-bit and blown highs, but looks kinda harsh and cool. Yeah, I'll miss ya, kickass little camera!

4000 very clean, barely any noise at all. 12,800 is fine. Better than the A7S II 25,600 is ok. If all camera reviews had to wait for the A7S III, you would not be getting any reviews at all.
