Can I use a laptop as a large portable HDMI monitor?
IronFilm and one other reacted to Adam Kuźniar for a topic
IMO it's more ridiculous to carry around your laptop, with zero mounting options, just to check your camera's image. Get a cheap monitor or use the wifi app2 points -
Extreme telephoto work
hansel and one other reacted to barefoot_dp for a topic
I regularly shoot surfing at about 1500mm equivalent (s35 + 500mm + 2x). A good tripod makes all the difference. The hardest part is pulling focus on a moving object using photo lenses that have an increasingly tiny throw as you move towards infinity.2 points -
Its becoming apparent there is a need for an Ursa variation. It will be a priority once the S is ready2 points

Hey Nikon - Where's the Z6 ProRes RAW Update?
zerocool22 reacted to Video Hummus for a topic
Don't forget that Blackmagic has it's own line of new HDR recorders that can record both ProRes RAW and BRAW. It's very possible that Blackmagic: 1. Supports ProRes RAW in Resolve in the near future (as is Premiere Pro and Avid). or 2. Comes out with support for BRAW for the Z6 on its new recorders via HDMI. I'm not a hardware engineer but I'm assuming the RAW output to Atomos via HDMI is utilizing the ethernet capabilities of the HDMI 2.0 spec that allows 18Gbps bandwidth of data (any data). That is more bandwidth available than 12G SDI on the BM recorders for example (assuming relatively small packet overhead on the ethernet protocol using jumbo frames or super jumbo frames).1 point -
I've done a couple of 1000mm+ equivalent shots with the GH5 and FD 400mm lens. Mainly to capture the sunset and moon. I also use the Ex-tele conversion on the GH5 to gain another 1.4 crop (or shoot 6K mode and crop in post). I got this system to hold the lens, it's much better than a regular tripod attached to a super front heavy GH5. The key is to balance the system and place your tripod right above the CG. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/554350-REG/Manfrotto_293_293_Telephoto_Lens_Support.html Then, you need a solid and rigid tripod. I tend to keep the legs relatively short to maintain the stiffness of the system. In any case, I turned the IBIS off as it cannot stabilize that type of micro vibrations. I also use a relatively high shutter speed, it allows to do a bit of post stabilization if necessary. 180 rule will turn any vibration in a blurry mess. As for focusing, I focus directly on the subject or to something very far away, changing the ISO if necessary between the focus point and the real subject (eg, sunset). Finally, you'll need a day with little or no wind1 point

I admire your desire to experiment and better learn the craft. Hopefully the neighbors don't think you're a creep!!1 point -
I haven't done any extreme telephoto work but this is my favourite example of it in a music video https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/kendrick-lamar-kings-dead-music-video-zooms-black-panther-a8220841.html1 point

Olympus 50mm F1.8 Zuiko is becoming my favorite lens. Just wanted to film some practice shots at work to color grade later, but the sharpness still amazes me. I held off buying this lens for like a year, regret it. The shot of the second helmet is just a split grade so that's why half of the shot is ungraded. Used muh A7iii1 point

Sage already answered that. That could be done; granted it wouldn't be tailored to the sensor. I'd like to support it directly, and I think there may be some rental options that would make that feasible.1 point -

Out of the APSC cameras in this price range the Z50 certainly looks like the best to me. The Z50 seems well built and the sealing is supposed to be good. I like how the grip, buttons and control wheels are executed. That kit lens is tiny and the perfect travel lens. The main problem is the lack of lenses. (But what new camera system has a lot of lenses?) Nikon should have made a DX 23 or 35mm f1.8 lens for the launch. I am excited about the announced 28mm and 40mm “compact primes”. Seeing that they are not S line lenses they should be affordable. Probably pancakes, they will be perfect for the Z50 as well as the full frame Z cameras. I can see myself adding a Z50 in a couple years with one of those pancakes as a throw around travel camera. I hope the cheaper and smaller Z30 is still magnesium and with two control wheels but leaves out the viewfinder and flip screen to cut cost and size. That and the 28mm pancake would be a dream.1 point

It does not look all that impressive, but Sony really needs some more competition in APS-C space. Looks like Fuji hasn't scared them enough. Also, poor Canon users, stuck with M-mount.1 point -

Weird how there seems to be this black hole when it comes to APS-C cameras and IBIS. Damn near every M4/3 and full-frame camera has it nowadays, but on the APS-C front there's only really the A6500 and A6600 that have it (plus some of Pentax's cameras).0 points
