    Fuji X-T4

I wouldn't take that listing as the holy gospel word, B&H might massage those results to be biased towards ones which have the best margin for themselves? Ok, I'll take off my tin foil hat now

  2. I would say that price, codec and lens selection is a huge plus for the Pocket 4K. You can put a lot of adapted lenses, use all the available M43 glasses, codec selection is big. In contrast the S1 is still expensive, native lenses selection is limited and expensive, doesn't bring that much to the table (no FF 4k60p) and is just so huge and heavy. Pocket 4k is $1300, S1 is $2500. The image from the pocket 4K is still nice, perhaps not as good straight out of the camera than the P4K but the robust codec option facilitates grading. Personally, I'm still deeply in love with my GH5 and I'm not considering the P4K. The S1 is a great body but it's not a huge improvement specs wise to justify to upgrade from the GH5 unless you need to shoot in the dark.

  3. Get a Sony FX9, it's "only" a thousand bucks more than a Fuji GFX100

  4. Neither, once I'm in this price range I'm buying a cinema camera, not compromising and getting a stills cam (albeit an excellent one). However if I had to choose I would probably go with the GFX for the better stills, and shooting my 35mm manual lenses in 1:1 format using the full width of my lenses.

  6. Hi Everyone, One of the shorts I wrote/directed recently finished its festival run and we released it online today. I figure I’d post here for you guys to check out. We shot it on a C200 (using raw) and regular Zeiss glass.

  7. Second attempt as i had uploaded the wrong images before. So long short short, i was testing resolution of 6k vs FF UHD to check the level of aliasing. The only chart i had was an old one i'd printed off myself many moons ago but should be enough to create issues (but i really need to find a better way...) But i can clearly see 6K still vs scaled UHD but what i found interesting is if you switch to DC mode i am pretty sure you're just getting a 1:1 crop of the sensor in UHD - it looks similar to the 6K. Either way the DC UHD RAW mode is much clearer than the FF. But i need to do some better tests but try it yourself and see what you think. cheers Paul So top is full frame UHD and lower is DC UHD, see how much clearer the lines are

    Fuji X-T4

Been out of the Fuji camp since buying the a73 about a year ago - which I just sold. Still have a couple lenses as I was planning on getting the XT30, but never pulled the trigger. If this becomes a reality, I'm back in Fuji's camp. Sony has a 32mp APS-c sensor, I don't know if the current 26mp sensor can do the rumored spec. I shoot 25k photos a year - I do a lot of paid photo work, so I hope it sees a mp bump as well. Like many I wish Fuji would just do a Zcam style cinema box in the X-mount too, make it a little bigger with XLR's and the flip out touch screen from the new XT200. Chris

    Fuji X-T4

Just looking at this thread now, and I saw this little side conversation on the LX100 and LX100 II. FWIW, I actually have the XH1 and the LX100 II - they complement each other nicely. I love my XH1, it is not the best camera at anything in particular, but it is quite good at everything. I use primarily for stills - everything from street photography, bird and wildlife photography, event photography, and studio portraiture. It has it's minor flaws, but the ergonomics are wonderful - old school. I'm definitely interested in the X-H2 or X-T4 or whatever it is they call the X-H1 successor. In the meantime, I am grooving on the Fuji glass (and not missing full frame lenses which so heavy) As for LX100 II, I use that primarily for my scuba travels - I have an underwater housing for it, and it would prohibitively expensive and tiresome to change systems - the LX100 II fit into the same scuba housing for LX100. I've shot some great underwater video (on my Youtube channel if you are curious) and stills with LX100 II and it's predecessor, the LX100. I also use it some for travel and street photography - it is small enough to toss it into my coat pocket. Panasonic image app is the best (I've used Sony, Olympus, and Fuji - they are not nearly as useful). I want to try out time lapse video on the LX100 II, and experiment with outdoor portraits in bright sun -- where I can leverage the camera's leaf shutter and really kill the ambient light.

The S1 is there for those who can't afford the S1H. You lose high speed 10 bit but you still get 30fps 10bit full vlog, same sensor, amazing ISO performance, amazing IBIS. 4K 60p S35

I just want three things on the x-t4: 1) Better battery/battery life 2) Ibis 3) better CAF (ideally a touch-to-track option)

  12. Sometimes the official spec sheets have mistakes in them. Like the Leica SL2 manual. Full frame 8K pixel readout (full scan)? Yes please! And sometimes specs change between the draft of the manual and actual V1.0 firmware. Maybe the SL2 did indeed have a Full frame 5K mode from 8K during development, which was subsequently changed to 5.5K crop mode. But it's more likely here that the copy-writers got confused between 35mm and Super 35mm sensor areas.

The best work around until then would be to buy a Sound Devices MixPre3 I've got a MixPre3 arriving next week! Quite excited for it.

Do you think Fuji would ever come out with a XLR adapter (ala, Panasonic/Sony)? I use the Panasonic one all the time for my job and it's so nice to have that option.

Last year Sony had a education promotion with 30% off, including A7RIV and A9. So the final price was around $2449. As a european, paying 4000€ ($4410) for the same item feels wrong, even considering the price includes taxes. Personally I don't care about statistics or talk from resellers. As spiffs seem to be getting more common, his interest might not be the same as mine. To get back to the X-T4: really looking forward to it, the X-T3 was great, but there were a few things that could be better.

  16. I'd say for the BRAW. Also higher frame rates in prores and RAW. Can't really beat the Pocket 6k for IQ. Its doable shooting with the Pocket 4k and internal batteries. Pretty small footprint. It can still be lighter than a RED rigged up but less ergonomic. The Panasonic S1 and URSA mini 4.6k(old used one) are on my radar right now. The S1H is a bit out of my price range. The S1 fills in the low light need and is pretty decent with dynamic range. The Ursa Mini fills in my dynamic range needs but lacks in low light. It looks way more professional having an Ursa mini on set over an S1 though.

  18. This is great! All around top notch. Great locations, clear sound, really quite enjoyable to watch. I love the prosthetics and the effects were very well done. My biggest critique would be that the knife cutting off the head is not convincing. If you can't get a better shot or make it in post, just cut away before you see it, or give a reaction shot instead. Stylistically, I would prefer deeper DoF and a little more lingering on the scenery. You've got such great locations, but I feel like it was either out of focus or the camera skipped by too quickly.

  19. Not mine but I felt like sharing this showreel since it's a nice reminder that cameras like the GH5 could easily be an A camera on a production.

  20. The Sony FS5mk2 price has come crashing down, you can get it now for US$3.5K! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1469171-REG/sony_pxwfs5m2_b_pxw_fs5m2_xdcam_super_35mm.html/BI/7759/KBID/8285/DFF/d10-v21-t1-x954134/SID/EZ This is exciting for me, because it means the days of buying FS5mk1 cameras on ebay for well under $2K should be arriving soon 😉 Because the current secondhand prices of FS5 don't make sense when for another grand and a half you could just get yourself a FS7 body instead. This news likely indicates a FX6 can't be too far away, and they're wanting to clear out the FS5 bodies before then. Hope the FX6 does stick with S35 so that it is cheaper, but unfortunately it seems like the FX6 will be FF

That's not enough to efficiently compete with the rest of the market. They need some other breakthrough features like build-in nd (#1 priority), improved IBIS, 4K120P, faster wifi for better image transmission, etc.

  24. "Netflix approved" means NOTHING to over 98% of us. As that only matters if you're making a commissioned project for Netflix, and if you are then you'll have plenty of budget to hire a Varicam LT / VENICE / Weapon / whatever! If you're doing a project to later on sell to Netflix? It doesn't matter what you use! Whatever you feel is right for the story. Could be your iPhone, could be an old DVX100, could be an Arri Mini, could be a Z Cam E2, whatever you like!

    GH5 to Alexa Conversion

That's the plan - I'm almost finished setting everything up for cameras going forward. I will really be able to accelerate now; a good indication will be how fast the GH5S is supported after the release of V4 for GH5. If a matter of weeks, then that is a very good sign for other cameras. Things will accelerate from there.

    Conversion Software

In the end, all the free/Open Source conversion programs - including Handbrake and Staxrip - are just graphical user interfaces for ffmpeg, and will thus yield the same results and performance. So one can simply stick with the tool whose user interface one prefers - or use ffmpeg directly on the command line. (Which provides more advanced functions such as ProRes and DNxHR encoding...)
