  1. I don't think many white men feel the so called privilege. Which is why we end up with protest votes at election time. The whole political correct thing doesn't connect with ordinary people. Politics is obsessed with skin colour, not the gaffer on a film set who just happens to be born in a country where white people are a majority. Why should he feel ashamed just for being part of an industry? I don't think anybody who works in the film industry should be shamed into believing they are part of an institutionally racist conspiracy. Some of the most incredible countries in the world are monocultural. Japan is about as close to a monocultural society as it gets and where is no shame in it. In fact Japan is arguably all the more unique and special for it. Are we suggesting Japan should now be reduced to 40% to 50% native Japanese people, in order to represent a greater number of skin colours and cultures? No. Discrimination against majorities is as wrong as discrimination against minorities. This constant shaming of talented hard working creative people for being white males has gotta stop.

  2. It's a tough one - Joaquin isn't the only person to mention it at the event, but he clearly has the loudest voice - it's been posted all over the internet. Also, how many awards has he won for 'Joker'? Basically all of them right? How many times can he thank his agent? How many times can he nod to his fellow nominees and ask Christian Bale to suck just once? The whole thing is rubbish at this point, he's just trying to use his airtime to his advantage. Personally, I think it's an artist's job to speak up about the things they feel unjust about. Sure equality in the film industry is a small part of the world's injustices, but if Joaquin started talking about the situation in South Africa that @Amazeballsmentions, it'd feel like it came from nowhere. In the 1 minute he has to talk, an actor can only really talk about the industry they're in. Films can perhaps make a better point with more time and a more focused discussion topic, and let the art speak for its self but many of them will have a smaller audience. How many people around the world have watched this small speech? How many people would watch a movie about inequality in the film industry? This is why - for me - music has so much more emotional power compared to any other art form. An artist can make their point, explain it, express it in a way that resonates with their listeners and then hammer it home all in the space of 3 - 5 minutes. That means you can listen to it easily 20 times a day and share it with your friends. Films and books simply can't do that. Photos and painting take more energy to read into them. A song spells it out for you, but still gives room for your own imagination to make even more connections. Phoenix has stated many times over the years that he thinks awards shows are stupid and pointless, and leaving his award on the podium made me laugh. Good for him.

  3. It’s an increasingly strange world we live in. Equality doesn’t mean every conceivable variation has to be represented in equal proportions in all events at all times... Generally the equality of opportunity is so much better now - by no means perfect but far far better than even a few years ago. And, in my view, it’s equality of opportunity which is the prize of a civilised society not the equality of outcome in one random event (and let’s be honest, such awards are hardly representative of the world - and it’s problems - as a whole).

  5. That was a better performance than Joker.

  6. Agree, too much politics nowadays. Sure, politics can fuel art, but let the art speak for itself at least.

  7. From the outdoor scene it's almost impossible to judge (too much handheld, too much background blur, too much out-of-focus shooting, lack of fine textures/details). From the studio scene: It can't be 1 (because the scaling/downsampling of small details/text is too clean compared to the Sigma's odd Bayer-to-Bayer downscaling); it's unlikely 2 (because details in this image look too artificially sharp, like it was shot with a conventional codec) It can't be 3 (for the same reasons as 1) It could be 4 - because the fine details are so blurry, just as with the 4K RAW from the 6K sensor of the fp. It can't be 5 (for the same reasons as 1 & 3) It can't be 6 (see above, although there's moiré in the fine details) It can't be 7 (see above) It can't be 8 (see above) It might be 9 because fine details are blurrier and showing moiré, but still too good IMHO So either 4 or 9, more likely 4. From the overexposed studio scene: 4 looks likely, since the Sigma fp really has no log profile and no highlight roll-off to speak of when the image clips. 9 looks too good for being that overexposed... So I'd say it's 4. The weird flashing artifacts of the underexposed studio scene are an indicator of the fp as well, if this was shot with the old firmware. - If it's 4 indeed, then it confirms what we already observed; that the Sigma fp has rather poor Raw video quality for a full frame camera and is significantly worse than the rest. If it's not 4, it would be a pleasant surprise.

  8. I’ve not tested, but I expect the main effect would be a crash - same most features Adobe introduce.

  10. Joaquin P in full on weird mode. Does he really have to insinuate that most of the audience are racist? Just accept the award, be thankful and fuck off.

  11. It's hard to beat G80 for its price. If you don't need AF or 120p it is still a pretty decent camera. Get some nice manual lenses to go along with and you will be set.

  12. But why exactly does he have to mention a certain specific in order to make his case? Should not mentioning other injustices, even if it's only the ones he's aware of, be enough?

  13. As much as I'm not a fan of (imo misguided) Phoenix' acceptance speech, this sort of argument is ridiculous. Ignoratio elenchi. Because he failed to mention specific injustices his entire point is diminished? C'mon. If you don't like what he's doing, just say so.

  14. Post and talk about what you find. Sometimes you can get a real deal, especially on the c-mount stuff under £500. The Cooke look for me beats everything else. Everything.

  16. I think he was very coherent and everything he said was on point. He seemed a lot more unhinged when he gave his acceptance speech on the golden globes when he went on and on about climate change. Glad he speaks out on systemic issues though. Why shouldn’t he?

  17. What racism is he talking about? Did he say a word about what's going on South Africa right now? Where "kill the boar" is the official policy of the government. Than he probably better shut the fuck up cos this all hypocrisy and populism. Thank your agent, your God and fuck off. (c)

  18. In this era of information, his courting of notoriety like this is probably by design. It wouldn't be the first time he did this. Hope you're right about the self-defeating part.

    Fuji X-T4

IF the 6k 60p rumor is true, and it's an anamorphic ratio, I wonder if this means Fuji has some Anamorphic glass up their sleeves too? I would sell every piece of gear I own and start all over again for an X-T4 with 2x Anamorphic MK-X zoom!

  20. You have Tony Northrump on your Youtube timeline... My condolences. If it were Sony rumours he'd be going bananas believe me. Biggest hype monger on there.

  22. I don't agree with Tony Northrup on a lot of stuff, but I do believe his take on the EOS R5 is probably pretty close to reality. I'm having a hard time believing the rumors on the R5. The specs could be correct but with a lot of asterisks. In other words, 8k time lapse, short duration 4k at 120fps or severely cropped, etc.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uczXVIWSJyo

  23. Write it up in your native language and we can put it through google translate? Language isn't the barrier it used to be and shouldn't get in the way of talking about what matters.

  24. Guys, guys. This is the videography and photography world. You have to teach him to be really toxic first so he has a fighting chance in the first place. First of all, you can't use more than one camera brand. IF you do, you're lost. You have to choose one brand and then go all in...buy brand merch and invest at least 10K into the system. You then have to shun and look down on anybody that uses a different camera, why? Because they are dumb and not smart like you. Got it? Good. Second, EVERY camera that is NOT YOUR CAMERA has terrible color science. This is fact. Third, it's always, without exception, all about the gear. Dropping 3K on a new camera WILL make you a BETTER photographer/videographer. Don't believe anybody that tells you otherwise because they probably shoot on a point-and-shoot (this is very, very bad). Fourth, never talk to a Pentax owner. This rule has no exceptions. Do not break it. Fifth, and final, when you switch your camera brand you have to start from step 1 all over again. Good Luck and fast shutters!

  26. Potato Jet has access to all that gear through a variety of ways. He is an active video producer so he has access to rentals and other equipment used for that. He has many filmmaker friends that loan him stuff. He has many sponsors that send him items for review. And he is has a healthy case of G.A.S as well that leads to many of his own purchases. If you watch enough of his videos, he eventually tells you how/why he has basically every piece of kit. Sometimes he'll reference a RED he rented or borrowed for a video from months prior, for example. TBH Potato Jet is my favorite Youtuber right now. He feels very genuine and I legitimately like watching his stuff.
