MFT to X-mount?

`Here are two 3D files that will give you both ends of the story. Or have them milled if you have CNC access.4 points -

How Can I Be A Young Director?
FranciscoB and 2 others reacted to mercer for a topic
No worries. Sometimes I wonder if ZachGoodwin is a real boy or a character someone has created. With that said, I'll play along... I think the point of the "hometown" documentary was supposed to be a simple assignment to get you working on a quick and small film. So, I wouldn't worry too much about the demise of the project. But if there is a business or even an interesting person that would allow you to make a film about them and it intrigues you, then go for it. I think the greater point you need to think about is that a filmmaker needs a film to make to be a filmmaker. I always thought you wanted to be a narrative filmmaker, so why not spend your time making 60 second short films? Write it, cast it, shoot it and edit it. Then wash, rinse, repeat. Good luck.3 points -

Inexpensive B Cam for a Panasonic S1?

Personally I love using m43 cams with native lenses for interviews. You can easily light for f/2.8, but with the benefit of f/5.6 DoF. It means I can use smaller, less powerful lights which helps keep the setup small.2 points -
Fuji X-T4
Juank and one other reacted to heart0less for a topic
Well, I could try to dare one of my friends to do it.. No promises he gets it done, though. EDIT:// MFT -> Fuji X seems doable, whereas Sony E -> Fuji X would require a whole lot of magic to produce. The flange distance difference between these two mounts is only 0.3 mm..2 points -
If you can wait a little and don't need a camera right now, the XT4 will be announced at the end of the month and shortly you will be able to find used XT3 quite cheap2 points

Fuji X-T3 and X-T4 discussion
heart0less and one other reacted to BrunoCH for a topic
First shot with my new Meike cine lenses (25 and 35mm). It's just a sequence for an actress demo reel. Really satisfied with these new lenses. Pros : - great color rendition and contrast. - almost no focus breathing. - long focus throw - the aperture ring is not linear (exposure adjustment is much easier and precise) - build all metal - price Cons : - 25mm is the widest focal length for X mount. (12 and 16mm cover only MFT sensor) - 50mm and 65mm will be released later, but doesn’t yet exist in X mount. - very sensitive to side flare. The wide shot with the 25mm Close shots with the 35 mm + black promist 1/4 filter 2000 ISO2 points -

when i joined the forum all the talk was about the p4k. Stylish was not a word that came up often, but that didn't bother me. i came from dslr's so the p4k design didn't seem to dissimilar from a dslr . Imagine that, a cinema camera that looked a bit like a dslr, something i could relate to. I would speculate that bm pitched it like that to sell a few more to mum and dads and other potential new users. must of worked, i preordered 😁 if your relying on hieroglyphs then your in luck, probably the easiest ui to interpret would be the p4k. 😉 Can you point my to a link where industrial design is specified ? I have reread the box and all the brochures i can find but it seems bm made no claims of industrial design apart from carbon fibre in the body ? if it were $2000 more, a whole bunch of us wouldn't have bought it, myself included. I personally think that it fulfills a niche and so far its done all i have asked of it . i can't claim it on tax so i personally prefer to treat it like a camera rather than a football. my precious !!! muuArh haha.... cough, cough. edit : it should come as no surprise how some companies behave been my experience the bigger they are the more refined they are generally, smaller ones, the boss tends to have a misplaced god complex. if you haven't experienced this then be very very grateful.2 points

I have had this lens for ages. Not something I have used a real lot but I do love it and think I am going to use it as the only lens I use for a few weeks. Mine does not have a build date mark (that I can find anyway) and is a battered old copy externally but nothing wrong with the glass. A small lens for the speed. Is actually usable in a pinch for landscape infinity shots though much better stopped down or close in. Has a large hand ground front aspheric element. On Sony it also works great as a super fast 2x zoom for jpegs and video. Well worth getting if you can get one at a decent price (there are some that are at collectors prices on Ebay). Just snaps walking around. wide open and 5.6 at distance. Close in at 1.4 and again at 2x clearzoom. I took a photo of a friend I met that i would love to post but do not think she would appreciate it. Will have to find a nice stranger to shoot and post as well as video from it.1 point

Street photography panic / Fuji hysteria
Jerome Chiu reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Fuji made this X100V advert featuring an artist who breaks Japanese social norms. They pulled it due to adverse hysteria on the internet (not real world) His technique (filmed from 00:45 in the video above) produces very interesting art with the best intention... Documenting the normal in a cinematic way. If the subject sees the end result, they'd approve 9/10... But in the moment, it just seems intrusive and a bit weird. Poor them. Their poor feelies, big frowny face, boo hoo! What a violation of privacy, blah blah blah. Art is bigger than that I'm afraid. Dear Fujifilm. Put the ad back up and stand behind your artist! Camera company staff dramas on GlassDoor
Emanuel reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
It's almost as if you feel the need to excuse it, as if it being normal makes it ok to run a shitty organisation that could be far better if the ethics and management were improved upon. Canon and Blackmagic have been the biggest disappointments for me both in terms of how they treat staff (and myself included even though I don't work for them) and their products.1 point -

Favorite lenses FD 24 1.4L
Thomas Hill reacted to noone for a topic
Yeah the prices of some are just plain silly. There is a bit of myth/legend about the first FD 24 1.4 though. I guess they probably did not make too many of them and while optically the same (I think) the first version has an extra blade so i guess many of those are really for collectors now. Then there is the fact that no one else made a 24 1.4 for a very long time (even now there are not that many....just the 2 FD versions, the 2 EF Canon versions, 1 Nikon, 1 Sigma and 1 leica (edit and the new Sony) and maybe one or two others at most and most of them have come in the last 10 to 15 years or so). I really did love the 50 1.2 L but I like the Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 even more though I still regret selling the FD 50 L. I wish my 85 did not have the dissolving bearings thing too and I think the three lens set of FD Ls 24/50/85 is pretty special still and differs from any other legacy lens set in all having those large hand ground aspheric elements. A few more from the 24 (the first stopped down a fraction, the second wide open as is the third)1 point -
Great shots!!! As you know, I have the FD 50mm 1.2 L and it is one of the best 50mm lenses I have ever used. Even wide open it is pretty damn sharp. I'd love the 24mm but the prices on them are just obscene. I guess the endless comparisons between the aspherical S.S.C FD lenses and the K-35 lenses, combined with the low supply of on the used market, have inflated the price. If you think the nFD versions are expensive... look at what people are asking for the earlier S.S.C models that the K-35s are rumored to be modeled after. The question is... how long can 30-50 year old lenses command such high prices?1 point

Inexpensive B Cam for a Panasonic S1?
Esteban reacted to thebrothersthre3 for a topic
I mean you can get fast lenses for the GH5 without needing a speedbooster. Depends on what you are shooting of course. If you do lowlight stuff having a speedbooster can be nice. Keep in mind 1600 iso is iffy on a GH4 where as with a GH5 3200 iso looks really nice. Starts to take away from M43 though when you throw a speedbooster with heavy glass on. Might as well just have a full frame camera. In terms of color matching HLG on both cameras is probably the closest thing or CineD. It will be different though and at that point it doesn't really matter what camera you get.1 point -

Sigma Fp review and interview / Cinema DNG RAW
Scott_Warren reacted to paulinventome for a topic
Okay, so you're right - there's something going on here. Although my 800 is stable and i got a quick flicker in 400, just once at the start of recording. There was a fix to the original firmware that 'stopped' something that sounded like this. But clearly hasn't. Although it's not something i've seen in the footage i've shot - so i can't say it's always happening. I've gone to the source of the files and i believe there's some scaling to the channels that is the cause, in which case there's hope to fix the data before debayer if it has caused a problem. In the DNG's there is a value called black level, which is subtracted from the image. I see different minimum values for this across two DNGs and i can compensate for that in RAW Digger to see. Even doing that i believe there is a scale going on with the channels. If it's something that can be sorted it would be best to sort this before debayer in the RAW DNG files. I will have a word with them to add to any other reports sent. What we should work out are the circumstances under which the camera does this... cheers Paul EDIT: So i've passed on the files to sigma and see what they say. Useful for others that have similar files to do the same.1 point -
I would save for another S1 honestly. Even the jump in terms of color science and dynamic range between the GH5 and S1 is quite remarkable.1 point

Now I really wish Fuji would be able to achieve IBIS performance on the level of GH5. That would be just really a perfect camera for me.1 point -
A camera doesn't have to be equally good at both stills and video to be a "hybrid" There is for instance the Nikon D750 which was an amazing stills camera, and while the video side was "good", it wasn't anywhere near at the same level. Likewise the Panasonic S1H has amazing video capabilities as "the best in the world" for a hybrid camera, its stills performance is "good" but isn't at #1 however.1 point

What was my Canon C300 mk ii green screen mistake ?!?
kaylee reacted to HockeyFan12 for a topic
This is not so bad. I don't think you did anything wrong, it might be a half stop underexposed but not that bad. Those strings are a bit tricky though... If you were to reshoot, I would rate the camera at around 160 ISO, whatever the lowest ISO is before highlights clip. That will get the shadows super clean and a nice thick image to work with. Cinema cameras generally don't apply denoising to the image (or look like garbage if they do) so you can get a much noisier image from a C300 MK II than for instance an A7S. Buy Neat Video, watch a few tutorials, and apply it before the key. It will slow your render down and cost $100 or something but it will also solve these problems. You will probably want to regrain after keying even. The data you need is there, you can get a clean key. Or try setting Keylight to "intermediate result" and using the spill suppressor plug in set to advanced and colorpicker green. It can look a bit less noisy but won't solve a dancing key.1 point -

IronFilm reacted to Trek of Joy for a topic
For years we've been asking for Fuji (and Nikon, and Olympus) to unleash a video beast as they're not tied to legacy video lines that result in the cripple hammer to protect high priced lines, and this finally appears to fulfill that wish. This is what the XH1 should have been, better late than never though. Rolling shutter is always a question, there will certainly be gotcha's that everyone will be screaming about. But man this is looking really good. The next few weeks are going to be pretty exciting on the hybrid front. Chris1 point -

-
Smart man! Haha, that analogy is hilarious! I like it Anyway, you're right those changes would make the BMPCC4K/6K better for working on film sets. However you forgot there are many many people who are buying Pockets for casual shooting or youtube etc They're not rigging it up and working with crews. The DSLR-ish form factor of the Pocket works better for them than an Arri Mini / RED "box". And then you've got "film sets" which barely justify the name, small indie stuff with just a few people. The kind of shoots which were using a 5D/60D/etc before BMD came along. Same there, maaaybe they'll add an external monitor and an external battery. The DSLR-ish form factor works for them.1 point

Camera company staff dramas on GlassDoor
tupp reacted to BrooklynDan for a topic
Newsflash: Almost every large company is run like this. Once a company achieves a certain scale, old school management principles come into play. A strict hierarchy is established and innovative minds tend to get pushed to the bottom. Companies are run by MBAs, not by camera nerds. Small start-ups can run a bit leaner and display truly innovative and disruptive behavior. But that only lasts until it's sold off or becomes a key player in the industry. Then the dogs start chewing at each other. About Black Magic, I appreciate the image quality on both the Pocket 6k and the Ursa Mini. But the so-called "industrial design" is pretty atrocious and the build quality still leaves a lot to be desired. They would do well to charge a few thousand more and equip their camera with fully aluminum bodies, so that they stand up better to on-set use. And the Pocket has the worst form factor of any camera on the planet. No amount of cages, rigs or battery plates can turn it into a functional piece of cinema equipment. It's like a camera designed by an ancient Egyptian who'd only seen a camera in hieroglyphs.1 point -
Inexpensive B Cam for a Panasonic S1?
Mako Sports reacted to MurtlandPhoto for a topic
The S1 to the GH4 is too big of a jump IMO. Panasonic has tweaked their color science substantially since 2014 and pairing the two would be more of a headache than it's worth. The G85 will get you much closer, but really I would try to spring for a GH5. The 10 bit will be a huge help for you. If that's too much, then consider a used original Blackmagic Pocket. HD only, but it's great HD. Remember, when matching cameras you often have to match the best image to the inferior one. Don't cripple your S1 - get something that can almost replicate it. Just my $0.02.1 point -

I could be wrong but i think having more dynamic range is way better than having 6k or 8k no? I mean S1H shoots 6k but honestly i shoot in 1080p in 10bit and that suits my ssds.1 point -
I am welcoming 8K. I don't need it, but I will never say we don't need it ever. If that camera could shoot 32K, well fine, as long as that's not the only mode of course cause I don't want my Mac to explode :). I remember a conversation with an IT guys years ago, I was getting a new PC and wanted 4GB of ram. He was laughing saying that 1GB was fine, and that never ever we would need 4GB of RAM on a computer, it was just physics and stuff. Yeah right, as I speak my system is using 30GB out of the 40 I have. Lol. So back to resolution. Right now my need is higher FPS 4K, not 8K. But a camera capable of 8K means the camera can handle a lot. If it can handle a lot, it probably can handle higher fps 4K, which is exactly the case in this rumor. So we are winning on all front.1 point
