The best sub $1K hybrid camera for filming is: a) if you can live without IBIS, the Fujifilm X-T3 secondhand b) if you love IBIS, the Panasonic G9 (it's been on sale for sub $1K brand new) or a secondhand Panasonic GH53 points

Canon EOS 1D MKIII specs revealed
alsoandrew and one other reacted to Django for a topic
Spent some time with the 1DX3. It's an amazing beast of a camera as expected. The AF is so fast I could hardly notice it 'working' half the time. Lightning quick response. The touch screen response is also on another level VS previous generation. AF is definitely present in all shooting modes (including 120fps) except above 4K30p. RS quite visible in FF 4K24p. Gets much better in 4K crop mode (which is 1.3x like 1DX2). Anyways, I realise everybody is waiting for R5/R6 announcements now but the 1DX3 is definitely a power house. I'd even say the most advanced performing DSLR I've ever handled. Quite impressive.2 points -

Best hybrid camera under 1000€
Cinegain and one other reacted to newfoundmass for a topic
The Panasonic G9 is a really underrated stills camera. It gets overlooked because it's M43 but it's awesome. The IBIS is a dream! Perhaps look into the a6600 as well, if you're not willing to go the M43 route? It's a little over your budget but not by much.2 points -
if i knew how to collapse the market believe me i would 😁 A canon fd 24mm 2.8 ssc can be had for under $200 au then the 24mm 1.4 start at $2000 - 4000 crazy insane 🙄 you guys know if there is there much difference between the the 50mm f1.2 and the 58mm f1.2 apart from 8mm ? there is one on ebay reasonably priced at the moment i could be tempted to get it. Now that i have said that someone will probably jump on it 🙄2 points

MFT to X-mount?
heart0less and one other reacted to Emanuel for a topic
Exactly my point, David! This is a must have in the indie world to duplicate routes... Go figure the optionS we have at the manual side... ; ) MFT is the most versatile lens format ever, most affordable, truly most and a must! ; -)2 points -
sorry buddy, but i am going to have to disagree with you on the reason for its form factor. A box is the easiest thing in the world to build, a box also gives you lots of space, to go out of your way to build something else points to other reasoning and i personally reckon that they wanted it resembling a dslr. How convenient is it that all the controls resemble a dslr, its like its made for people who have used a dslr pick up a cinema camera and can start shooting in 5 minutes even if was provided with hieroglyphics. 🙄 Give me a boxy cinema camera and with out the manual and a couple of youtubes , i am unlikely to find the on/off switch 😀 i think its pretty easy for someone to transition from a dslr to a p4k/p6k cinema camera with a minimum of fuss. Personally i think the only thing the designers got wrong was giving it a non flippy screen. Thats almost tantamount to criminal neglect in this day and age and i would have even paid an extra $200 if that was the cost incurred. i use it without stabilization but i wouldnt post anything unless you guys needed a laugh 😉 sorry if i didnt answer your question directly. i bought the p4k which predates the p6k so in a way i have answered your question as to which i prefer. whether it works on a gimbal or not is moot to me at this point as i cant afford one. I would argue, with an adapter i can fit just as many lenses on my p4k speedboosted as any ef mount or any other camera mount should i so desire. I may not have auto focus, but i am the kind of guy to buy a katz eye micro focus screen and install it into his dslr, so not having auto focus isnt an issue for me. i guess their interpretation differs from yours a little, besides their human their not going to get it right, all the time every time (take the non flippy screen for example ) but i dont think its worth hanging some poor dude over. i doubt any of us are excusing it or condoning it. if we are honest with ourselves we could probably all do better. If you watch the news at night you will soon learn its a dog eat dog world out there, people are constantly ripping other people off it occurs at every level whether its washing cars (seen that on the news believe it or not ) or members of parliament or businesses. Seems ironic that its been two thousand years since jesus walked the earth, technology certainly has improved but how man treats other men really hasn't.2 points

I have had this lens for ages. Not something I have used a real lot but I do love it and think I am going to use it as the only lens I use for a few weeks. Mine does not have a build date mark (that I can find anyway) and is a battered old copy externally but nothing wrong with the glass. A small lens for the speed. Is actually usable in a pinch for landscape infinity shots though much better stopped down or close in. Has a large hand ground front aspheric element. On Sony it also works great as a super fast 2x zoom for jpegs and video. Well worth getting if you can get one at a decent price (there are some that are at collectors prices on Ebay). Just snaps walking around. wide open and 5.6 at distance. Close in at 1.4 and again at 2x clearzoom. I took a photo of a friend I met that i would love to post but do not think she would appreciate it. Will have to find a nice stranger to shoot and post as well as video from it.1 point

Street photography panic / Fuji hysteria
Jerome Chiu reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Fuji made this X100V advert featuring an artist who breaks Japanese social norms. They pulled it due to adverse hysteria on the internet (not real world) His technique (filmed from 00:45 in the video above) produces very interesting art with the best intention... Documenting the normal in a cinematic way. If the subject sees the end result, they'd approve 9/10... But in the moment, it just seems intrusive and a bit weird. Poor them. Their poor feelies, big frowny face, boo hoo! What a violation of privacy, blah blah blah. Art is bigger than that I'm afraid. Dear Fujifilm. Put the ad back up and stand behind your artist! His work: https://www.tatsuosuzuki.com DPReview pixel peeper comments (gives me a fucking headache) https://***URL removed***/news/6165309898/fujifilm-pulls-controversial-x100v-promo-video-due-to-the-featured-photographer-method1 point -
This is the source they say they used for the original, not the one you linked. They do link the other one as "original" to look more impressive. The coloring is cool but it's not really much better that the original imo. Sharper edges tho. *edit* It does add some detail but it's spotty on what it decides to enhance. This is the first frame.1 point

No, there is no custom white balance so as @mercer says, you'll have to do it by eye. The manual gives you the ballpark ranges for different light sources. https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/UserManuals/BlackmagicCinemaCamerasManual.pdf They suggest to pick from 2500, 2800, 3000, 3200, 3400, 3600, 4000, 4500 and 4800K for indoor/artificial light so if this is for a repeatable test setup then I'd be inclined to shoot a couple of seconds at each one then eyedrop the colour of the grey card in whatever editor you're using to determine which one has the most neutral RGB values for your lighting setup.1 point

Idk if you can do a custom WB on the Micro, so I just always used the Kelvin temperature. Since navigating the menus can be a chore on the Micro you can set it at 4400 for raw 3:1 and then change it up or down as needed in post. Even ProRes files are hefty enough to give you some wiggle room in post, but it's probably best to get it relatively close. But you can keep it simple... 5600 for daylight and 3200 for artificial light. You can also shoot your grey card and then temporarily crop to just the grey card, in post, and adjust your WB until the dot on the vectorscope is dead center on the cross... uncrop and voila perfect WB.1 point

Remember that the FD lenses we're discussing have aspherical lenses in them. So there is a nFD 50mm 1.2 without an aspherical element and then there's the nFD 50mm 1.2 L with an aspherical element. The non-L lens isn't supposed to be anything special and it's probably no better than the FD 50mm 1.4... the 1.4 is a great lens.1 point

Sharp cheap 2x anamorphic lens
heart0less reacted to leslie for a topic
sorry im a bit late too the party i made my own but i had access to a waterject cutter. you could do something similar with a drill just depends on how enthusiastic you are i measured everything then had a piece cut out of 5mm sheet alloy my elmoscope came with a mount attached i had the arm machined off the mount and three holes drilled and tapped to bolt the old mount and my "custom" upright together. The waterject cost me nothing however the machining was a different matter Still i get a warm glow at night keeping a local fed and watered. At the same time i had a adapter made up as the back of the elmoscope is an odd filter size, the other side of it is the same size as a 85mm takumar i think. i had hopes of getting a single focus solution before now but that hasn't worked out. The issue is that its a solid mount so i come unstuck if the lenses wants to move forward or backwards when you focus the taking lens as there is no give in the system At this point 1) i either change the base to a linear rail to allow it to move as the taking lens moves 2) buy a single lens solution 3) buy the sirui anamorphic and worry about the elmoscope later on 4) build some type of bellows that has 30-40mm travel but that may cause issues with vignetting. hope the photos give you some ideas1 point -
Stills on a 12mp camera... you have some nerve. Lol. It just goes to show you that the stills MP war and the video resolution war isn't really that important. I've had a couple Sony cameras and the AWB was never really that accurate. The presets were much more accurate. You shoot concerts, right? Have you thought about doing a music video? That 24mm and the a7s probably sees in the dark... it definitely opens up some creative opportunities. I imagine you can get a decent image just using the dashboard lights in a car?1 point

Or Fuji's own excellent cinema zooms (18-55mm T2.9 and 50-135mm T2.9), which if you buy in X Mount you're locked into only X Mount. But if you purchase it as MFT then you'll be able to use it on ANYTHING! (which is S35 mirrorless... if the adapters come out, such as a MFT to X mount adapter. FZ and E mount adapters already exist for the Fuji MFT cine zooms)1 point

Stills. I am looking for something to shoot video with this. As I said, it is all I am going to use for the next few weeks (well maybe my late dads Fuji superzoom if a battery turns up for it soon). I love the original A7s , my all time favourite camera. AWB is off though something I did not pay as much attention to as I should have with my first one. I may have been wrong about the two 24s having different number of blades (I could have sworn I saw that recently).1 point

A complete camera rehousing has already been done with a BM camera. Due to BM's "design aesthetic," there also have been several other mods to their cameras. Remember the Wooden camera BMPC lens mount mod? How about their current BMPCC6K lens mount mod kit? That would be great! By the way, a Chinese company has already added the hinged screen.1 point

It's almost as if you feel the need to excuse it, as if it being normal makes it ok to run a shitty organisation that could be far better if the ethics and management were improved upon. Canon and Blackmagic have been the biggest disappointments for me both in terms of how they treat staff (and myself included even though I don't work for them) and their products.1 point -

Personally I love using m43 cams with native lenses for interviews. You can easily light for f/2.8, but with the benefit of f/5.6 DoF. It means I can use smaller, less powerful lights which helps keep the setup small.1 point -

Street photography panic / Fuji hysteria
Jerome Chiu reacted to kye for a topic
Hmmm.... street photography is a topic where I get a little rant-y. I will however resist this urge and simply offer my one frustration, which is that there is a double standard in place. If you are a private citizen and want to take photographs of people in public then you get all kinds of reactions about privacy and related concerns, but large corporations are not subject to the same scrutiny. Walk down an average out-door shopping mall and see how many security cameras you can see that cover the street. Think about the CCTV systems that governments put in place for logging vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and also consider the number-plate and facial recognition that they are running on these 24/7. I can understand the government ones are for our safety, and the private ones aren't positioned to take eye-level portraits, but the "right to privacy" argument should also extend to them. To say nothing of the various forms of universally applied but highly targeted electronic surveillance that have been exposed in recent years. His technique was interesting, and the end results were definitely impressive artistically. ...and for anyone that hasn't done it themselves, it's actually more uncomfortable to do in real life than it appears!1 point -
Street photography panic / Fuji hysteria

Sorry mate it just isn’t. Morally he is valuably documenting and creating photos for the preservation of an age, which will be looked back on by mankind in 100’s of years to come as rare examples for their candid, non staged nature. Morally the photos portray their subjects in a compelling and flattering way... Sometimes with a weathered and unflinching edge to them, yes, but I wouldn’t mind looking as cinematic and interesting as his subjects if I were one. Morally his intentions and use of the photos is good. And realistically you can’t expect absolute personal privacy in public... Why should you? It’s a shared space you’re in! You’ve gotta share it with artists when you step out of the door and try not to get butthurt if you’re in a work of art... I know this is the tricky part for most people as they don’t know what art is. Ironically the biggest philistinism of all comes from the German government with their privacy laws designed to ‘protect’ the individual, but it actually trampled all over a major art form and individual freedoms... That the lawmakers didn’t realise this when they came up with it shows what philistines are in power today in supposed “liberal” democratic countries.1 point -

Juank reacted to Mako Sports for a topic
Facts I have both an FS5 and A7iii, even though I believe the A7iii makes better looking video, the FS5 while having really bad lowlight performance and autofocus it is easier to use for video due to the ergos + SDI + variable ND+ SDI. I'm more interested in seeing what the FX6 has in store over the A7siii.1 point -
Key Light (Bowens Mount) Less Expensive Than Apurture?

This looked quite good on paper, but liked the look out of the 120D much better, not sure it is only a whitebalance thing. As even corrected I prefer the 120d, so could be CRI related as well. But the off temperature colors are quite shitty to work with though if you are mixing them up with other lights.1 point -
