Really enjoying it so far. Funnily enough it's not actually my camera. There is a great media center nearby that rents out cameras for members. A bunch of blackmagic 4K cameras, some canon handicams, and Sony Mirrorless cameras. No one rents out the 2 F3's they have, both have the S-log/4:4:4 upgrade. Perhaps it's also because they had bad EF adapters on them that flare like mad (even the sample with my face here has it, hence me buying the adapter). I've been able to borrow them for weeks at a time. I'm still early days on shooting with it but I love it, love the color even out of the internal 8-bit files. S-Log External Voigtlander 28mm SL II 2.8 Voightlander 90mm 3.5 SL II Voigtlander 40 mm f2 Internal Slog (just started shooting this but will be using it more, does not break as much as I thought it would) Nikon 24-70 2.8G

  2. I often look at the 4 or 5 cameras in my bag and think “this cost me far too much and they’re all the same”. Then I have a cup of tea and try to forget about it. Yes it’s true, the full frame market is overcrowded and image quality differences between them are getting smaller. What about selling 3 or 4 of those cameras, I thought to myself… And consolidating them into one giant mad one. So this happened… https://www.eoshd.com/filmmaking/inspecting-the-fuji-gfx-100-and-having-a-cup-of-tea/

Well he's already there and I'm en route in a car that couldn't be carrying more batteries if it was a Tesla. We might even do a "Hey guys whats happening" vlog about it * * spoiler.....we won't be

Who else thinks that this puts pressure on the GH6 to deliver more bang for the buck, especially considering that it will have have the smaller sensor disadvantage, and thus unable to justify a higher price than this?

  5. 90% of my work is solo corporate work. Half interviews the other half corporate events (like conferences). About 10% of the work is branding videos with small teams (I hire 1-2 people). I shoot on the S1 and rent an Eva1 if needed. I started with the GH series, so i'm most comfortable with V-log. I like packing small, I do travel. This year I was planning to sell the S1, invest a few thousand dollars and get a used EVA1 or maybe C200/300mk2. Obvious advantages from moving to a camera like that from a mirrorless. But recently I've thought about going the other direction and buying 3 Z Cam E2 (yes 3), when the price starts to drop (about $1350 used meaning I could get 3 for about $4k) . I always thought I should move up and buy more expensive cameras, but I'm starting to think that for my kind of work having more cameras allows me to significantly change what I can offer my clients. The camera/M43 lenses are so small, I could pack a 3 camera set up in a backpack. Maybe even a small motorized slider. I could produce much better interview content with multiple angles. For conferences I could do 2 stationary cameras and one manned and produce multi-cam keynote speeches. For branding work, I could build the camera up (metabones XL, Full Frame glass, V Mount) and it would look fine for agency people. Unless something comes out at NAB that is just jaw-dropping, I really think multiple small cameras is the best approach for me personally.

Got the Optitek ProLock Nikon G to Sony FZ adapter to mount my G lenses to a Sony F3. Got it for a low price, but holy **** it is worth every single cent, Rock solid, no play and I have confidence everything else will break before the adapter does.

  7. @Trek of Joy it's worth it. There's also something about it that reminds me of shooting still photos on celluloid. The high quality and fact that when you unpack each clip its just thousands of raw images. Grading with it is a dream coming from a stills background. Makes me only ever want a RAW cinema camera in the future.

  8. Yes it's true. I escaped 6 months of drizzle, flooding, and unworkably shit cloud covered light to do an actual shoot. We will find that out as I brought that with me as well. The first time it has seen sunlight I dare say the S1H is a bit cleaner in low light at 6400+

S35. I often find Reduser to be a mixed bag about most things but cheaper lenses in particular. There is a lot of couching it in terms of "I've only got this for personal projects" which strikes me as a pre-emptive defence in case it is belittled by some members of the cult/forum. From my point of view, the benchmark for me for that lens is that it remains the most compelling of any "lets just go down the park and shoot a lot of setups with one lens on the LS300" stuff I've seen

What do you know about what I know or don't know? C'mon... No rocket science here, literally... LOL ; ) it's just to read the news. Politically motivated? It's completely nonsense what you're just writing. No, there's no political motivation at all from my part. I only find all this story an absolute misfortune. Painful to see. That's all. First off if you haven't noticed yet, I am one of the oldest members here. This is one of my fav places I choose to discuss daily life with other fellows in this Andrew's home. People trade messages on private, there are connections beyond the curtains and so on, you know? This is merely our public window. On the other hand, the guy wanted to photograph the earth to prove his idea. This has everything about the main scope of this forum, no more no less. As fair conclusion though, pictures are not only made of gear and talking around for geeks. The way news, marketing, media exposure, innovation are made and are mirror of our time, even the society itself or what it is political motivation realm, once you mention it, make them... Our contemporary counterpart. It is impossible to dissociate the pictures or how we living them from there. Count on it ; -)

I'm not sure how much you know about vintage glass, so forgive me if I'm telling you things you already know... One thing I find useful is this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flange_focal_distance which lists flange distances, and everything with a greater flange distance than the mount you're using (EF in your case) should be easy to convert. For me, the interesting ones might be: M42, Pentax K, M39 (if you're interested in much earlier vintage glass), Contax C/Y, Nikon F (lots of great Nikon glass around).. Also worth a look: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?92044-Contax-Zeiss-Survival-Guide http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?152436-Russian-Soviet-USSR-Lens-Survival-Guide http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?139153-Mamiya-Medium-Format-Lens-Survival-Guide https://www.pebbleplace.com/databases/contax_database.html https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/Pentax-Takumar-M42-Screwmount-Lenses-i3.html Lots of great info out there if you're willing to put in some time on google..

Probably just ignorant or too naive as some other alternatives or excuses, isn't it? ; ) No, read again my post... "I mean US, but could be anywhere else." I think I left it clear, no? Of course, there are silly people everywhere WTH. Evel Knievel never scheduled a stupid agenda to justify his entertainment business AFAIK. Horses for courses. I think and do defend authorities should play a role on certain cases. Insanity can be dangerous as much as flying drones or rockets for that matter. No idea how people stare to attend such sad show. First question to come to my mind: are we talking about a licensed or allowed activity to begin with? To launch rockets to the space like we all live in somewhere more than 100 years ago? Last time I checked we are in 2020... ; -) Shame on everyone who let this happen.

    Fuji X-T4

Fujifilm X-T4 press release leaked (by nokishita, I got this from the report on FujiRumors): The X-T4 uses the back-illuminated 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and a high-speed image processing engine, the X-Processor 4. Combined with FUJIFILM’s colour reproduction technology, the X-T4 delivers a wide variety of options so you can recreate a scene exactly as you remember it. IBIS provides 5-axis 6.5 stop image stabilisation when used with 18 out of 29 XF / XC lenses. It offers many new components, including new materials to the base part, a refined layout of the shutter’s shock-absorbing structure and newly developed gyro sensors that boast approx. 8 times the detection accuracy of the IBIS unit in the X-H1. This particular mechanism assists night photography and sports photography, and also helps video recording in situations prone to camera shake. The new IBIS unit uses magnetic force rather than springs, which boosts functionality while making it approx. 30% smaller and 20% lighter than X-H1’s image stabilisation mechanism. Thanks to newly developed high-torque coreless DC motor, the ultra-fast focal plane shutter has the capability to shoot up to world’s fastest 15fps in burst mode, and has advanced response performance with a shutter release lag of just 0.035 seconds. The shutter unit also boasts double the durability with 300,000 actuations and offers shutter noise approx. 30% quieter compared to the X-T3. The 1.62 mil dots vari-angle monitor allows for more creative and versatile shooting styles. The LCD/EVF can be boosted in three different ways, Low Light Priority – allowing users to see the subject clearly in low light, Resolution Priority – displaying even the fine details of your subject and Frame Rate Priority which minimises blur in the viewfinder when shooting a moving subject. The eyecup now has a locking mechanism to prevent tearing or dislodgement. The Boost / Normal modes are now joined by the Economy mode, which saves the power to increase the battery life. The X-T4 features “ETERNA Bleach Bypass” a new Film Simulation mode, that uses FUJIFILM’s unique technology to provide versatile colour tones. The new mode simulates “bleach bypass,” which is a traditional processing technique for silver halide films; creating images with low saturation and high contrast for a special atmosphere. Highlight and shadow tones from -2 to +4 can now be adjusted by 1/2 stops, instead of 1 stop, allowing for finer tonality, and White Balance now has “White Priority” and “Ambience Priority” options in addition to “AUTO.” The “White Priority” mode reproduces a stronger white, while the “Ambience Priority” produces a warmer tone. When “RAW” is selected, users now choose the non-reversible “Compressed” option in addition to the reversible “Lossless Compressed.” A new algorithm and phase detection AF’s processing capability has led to autofocus performance as fast as 0.02 seconds. This ensures that users can capture and track a subject moving at high speed, especially when combined with the continuous shooting performance of 15fps in post view and 8fps in live view. Tracking AF performance has also undergone serious enhancement. The tracking success rate has been doubled compared to the X-T3. The Face / Eye AF performance has also been dramatically improved. This enhanced tracking ability has made focusing and taking portraits even easier than ever before. The X-T4 is capable of recording Full HD high-speed video at 240P, producing up to 10x slow-motion effect. IBIS is effective when combined with the electronic image stabilization function (DIS) for use in the video mode, and brings even more image stabilisation, which is essential for users shooting video whilst walking. The “IS (Image Stabilisation) Boost” mode mitigates gentle camera shakes, enabling stabilised fixed-point video recording without a tripod. The stills and video modes now have separate menus and the video-only Quick Menu (Q Menu) button has enhanced the camera’s simplicity while recording video. A ”Movie optimised control” function has been introduced; users can adjust exposure with the command dial as well as the touchscreen panel. With this function, user can switch the STILL / MOVIE mode dial on the top panel to swiftly shift into video recording with stored video settings. Video in the same format can be recorded on to two SD cards at the same time as backup. And the F-Log View Assist function has been added to correct low-saturation / low-contrast video while recording F-Log. Video is converted equivalent to BT.709 for display to make it easier to attain correct exposure in video recording. The “Fix movie crop magnification” function fixes the video crop rate to prevent changes in the angle of view when switching to a different video mode. An “MIC jack setting” on the camera can be switched input level between MIC level and LINE level. The camera supports external microphones as well as LINE level input from external audio equipment.

Insanity is a severe mental disorder and State should be responsible for, in order to provide efficient assistance. Your freedom of thinking is harmless until the day it can hurt. I don't like to use safety belt in my car, as well I find too boring any rules, those about drones included. But, sense of community and rationality -- the reason, means to respect them. This comprehends to respect the others. Your freedom CANNOT prevail over the freedom of other people or the rights and civilized principles such as caring of patients with mental problems, even if apparently healthy because Psychiatry is a truly complex medical specialty. Let alone the whole invisible world behind. Respect common sense is an obligation of yours to see your right of free thinking to be respected as well. We're not living in the Germany of 30s. This applies for both ends. Got it? E : -) PS: Not only the State but also the sponsors are responsible for this tragedy. They created such a circus in this crazy world of profit where we all live in. A shame, a crime without punishment too. I do care about the world around me. It invariably concerns me. Or I just am an(other) accomplice. http://balua.org/mission-take-the-rooster-of-barcelos-into-near-space-by-marco-neiva/ Disclaimer: This is a project that was financed by a friend and business partner of mine, also stereographer (has worked with Peter Greenaway BTW IMDb LINK), no one had to be killed or was harmed (rooster included) to collaterally photograph and show the spherical reality as it is...

Isn't there a limit for freedom of thinking? Flat earth theorist !?? Are they kidding me? Aren't there mental health authorities in US? I mean US, but could be anywhere else. Seems pretty clear to me, there's a border between common sense vs (plain/full) insanity. Why not to simply forbid this kind of acrobatics? Last time I heard there are rules for drones to fly... IMHO society (that is, all of us) represented by the State is responsible for such loss.

Gearing up for a very large documentary in terms of volume of footage, cannot afford the hard drive space to shoot it 4K off my Nikon Z6. Want LOG for grading flexibility. Also desired something with long battery life and internal ND's. At this point the F3 is looking like the ideal for me that I already have access to. Also shooting a low budget feature soon (If financing comes through), so deciding what to shoot it on. Thinking of using the 2 F3's for it and renting high end cinema glass and a grip truck, instead of renting cameras and having less to spend on lenses/lights. It's a horror film that doesn't need a 4k deliverable.

Here is an example of 1 iphone/magic arm. Imagine another on the other side and a top monitor. Still pretty compact. I'd probably go with the Sigma 16/30/56mm F1.4 m43. Would be an excellent affordable 3 camera interview kit.

  29. Hi Andrew, thank you for sharing a few pictures, they look amazing! I would love to see a demonstration of what the video work you describe looks like, please upload some examples if you can. Fuji is running a free-rental promotion for the X-T3 here in Canada and I tried it out recently (couple pics below) and found it great for an APS-C camera (tons of fun to use, great colours), but really lacking the beautiful foreground separation of full-frame and I imagine Medium-Format could look even more beautiful than FF. Also the battery life on the X-T3 was atrocious in video-mode (it died after 25 minutes in 4k). How is the GFX 100 battery life? Thank you.

In fact. And let's not confound this with Franky Zapata please. Not strictly because one succeeded, the other doesn't. One had a noble purpose -- yes, that matters, makes the whole difference. The other one, unfortunately, pure madness. Yes, in a word: science. Pops up mind, head, in short, something with brains. That's why is different, not exactly because of the results per se. We usually call it achievement from a paradigm made with sense of proportion (again: reason, rationality, purpose), where and when there's such thing to justify the risk. The craziness is not on the fearless-guts but the whole world around. The method or its lack. Because requires grounds. As someone commented here: "He died of stupidity rather than genuine rocket research." A suicide mission as someone else also wrote. A stupid one as it's easy to infer. That's not news.

  41. Thanks for the information @ted1000. I've been looking at the cam-do solutions with the GoPros. I think that they are the best "budget" solution, but even so your setup there costs around $1500. There is also the Afidus ATL-200 camera that I think I will give a shot. You can't get at the still images, but it does 1080p and has a motion sensor which could be cool for nature. I'm working on a long-term environmental development documentation of outcomes project and part of it is building new sand environments for the sand martins to hopefully nest. Another project is restoration work of a historical phone booth and also some massive willow head mounted in a tree (as the nature/seasons pass).

My advice: try to get repeat clients to go on contract for a monthly retainer. My freelance work was up and down and very unreliable for years, but once I got my first client on a retainer, things have gone much more smoothly for me, the consistent monthly paychecks have been awesome while still being able to enjoy the flexibility of freelance. One tip for negotiating these kinds of deals with clients is to look through job listings for full-time video work in your area, contacting the companies in question and pitching a freelance retainer solution instead, which they might be happy to do since it will save them a lot of money in the long-run, so it's a win-win. Best of luck! It's a lot more fun doing what you love.

Everybody stop, we have been wrong all along for 10 years since the 5D Mark II came out with that silly 24p firmware patch, why they bothered with that and didn't just stick to 30p I don't know. All that stutter and judder from the cinema frame rate, damn my computer screen for not being a flickering 24hz scan rate, it's all the fault of those damned LCD panels!! Yes I wondered why the Arri Alexa looks so shit on my LG OLED. Bloody 24fps strikes again. Tut tut tut. *Checks notes* Canon are completely right to remove 24p and it has *checks notes* nothing to do with protecting the higher-end cameras. Better warn all those C200 users shooting their silly mismatched 24p for Netflix. They should all be shooting at 60p to avoid judder, and recommending people turn their TVs to Motion Smoothing mode, especially for those fancy daytime soap operas we used to call "films" like Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. Quick somebody tell Scorsese! Why won't he get the 30p 60p memo??? Doesn't he know his scan lines are juddering and stuttering? And damn that bloody Spielberg still living in 1984. An affliction you mean? Yes, the look of cinema is the scourge of filmmakers everywhere. They should really go to a doctor for that 24p disease. I don't know how much you guys in these PR offices get paid by companies like Canon but I am fascinated by the work and script writing you put in. Should do a documentary about it... Shot in 30p of course.
