Sure, of course some people do. Doesn't mean you always should, plus it doesn't mean the many disadvantages to it goes away. And that video was a promo video from RED, the most infamous example in the industry of people who are pushing for ever more "K"! The rest of your post is either: 1) wrong (saying you can't use MFT in small rooms) 2) complaining about lenses (when in fact I'd say there are many very fine lenses for MFT)4 points -

Selling FS5 to get a BMPCC4K?
Mako Sports and 2 others reacted to baker21 for a topic
First off sorry for the length of the post and going off topic a bit here and there.. But I had similar choice a few weeks ago as you... I was in similar boat with decision to add a video centric camera to my a7riii.. I could have upgraded to A7riv, which made no sense to me as I am coming from photography and wanting to do more high end video. The a7riv kept the same specs for video, except the eye AF in video which is a big deal for some ppl, but for me that was a non starter, OFC still waiting like everyone to see Sony A7Siii .. In meantime, wanted video centric camera, so its was either FS5 or BMPCC 4K or 6K.. Since I was already invest heavily in Sony Eco system with FF glass, I went with the FS5. I got all my GM, ZEISS E mount glass I can use, with a crop factor of S35 ofc. But I also have Vtg Cine set of Bell and Howell General scietifics which are S35, and C mount Som Berthiot Set, 10mm,16mm,24mm,50mm,75, and a 25-100mm zoom, a B&H set of C mounts, and a set of isco 35mm primes. With the center scan, I can use C mount lenses with no vignette..Plus clear image zoom of 2x.. I can also use clear image zoom in 4K as well which means no vignette up to 1.5x in 4K mode.. The biggest factor for me was not ONLY the internal ND, but the AUTO INTERNAL ND.. Which is SIMPLY AMAZING... THE AUTO INTERNAL ND IS A GAME CHANGER.. ITS A MUST HAVE AND IN A FEW YEARS I THINK IT WILL BE DEFAULT ON EVERY HIGH END CAMERA... I set to 180 deg shutter all the time, use GAIN, then I am good to go.. As for menus, the FS5 looks intimidating if your new to cine cameras, but after working with it for a week, i literally can operate it in the dark... Its intimidating at first.. Checkout Doug Jensen course on the FS5.. vortexmedia its called.. That taught me all I needed to know for $50 - 6+ hrs... Now my biggest FACTOR for going with the FS5, was ability of the internal ND, and the fact that I am heavily invest in sonys eco system.. Though with cine gear going forward, until sony releases the A7siii, which hopefully will be amazing for everyone.. Or if they release a new FX6 and FX3 both with internal NDs... it wouldnt shock me at all.. I could see a s1H type camera for 4K from sony with same color science with new internal nd, maybe that is the reason its taking so long. To get the internal ND small enough to go with IS.. man FX9 users will be mad.. But nothing sony isn't use to doing.. How you think all us A7Riii users felt when they dropped the A7riv, which plummeted our prices.. And look at BMPCC4K with the release of the 6K.. Its part of the camera business.. look what canon is about to drop in the R5, though my guess is it will be "canonified" and dummyed down.. Sony has their new S CINETONE which looks great on the FX9. but they can take a page out of panasonic book and charge $199 for the color science upgrade and release it in the Fx6 and Fx3.. The Sony S camera was about low light, and TBH, the low light int he standard A7iii has caught up b/c they all now use the new BSI chips which are amazing in lowlight. Back to whether you pick BMPCC or FS5, it really is about what job you need it to do? Are you going to color grade your own work? Though if u learn grading and have the time, you can make any camera look however you want in RESOLVE or PREMIERE PRO.. Back to why I chose FS5.. OFC, the FS II is same camera with upgrades incl which are RAW upgrade, HFR upgrade, and MPEG2 upgrade(for some reason) ... anyways I got all 3x upgrades included with a FS 5 with a bunch of +++ , a portabrace bag, a high end sennheiser mic of some kind, and the kit lense of 18-105mm f4 PZ was included too.. and low hrs like 140hrs. Thing was mint though and just had one small issue with an old battery, though was resolved and fixed with a new battery.. Not Bad at all for $2300 + tax.. I was looking at the bmpcc for IQ though, and TBH it was really the opportunity made itself available and funds were there and ofc I had gas.. But if it wasnt available at that price point, I was going to get the 6K BMPCC and then slowly build out my kit which costs alot of $$.. It adds upquickly.. But Battery life and no NDs and the biggest reason was, I didnt have any m4/3 glass and seeing how I already owned E mount glass it simply made no sense to invest in M4/3 or even the EF mount 6K BMPCC.. If I wasnt heavily invested in E Mount glass, then I would have prob be writing about how great the BMPCC is right now... lol There both great at what they do but as another poster said, they do different things.. But I feel with atomos, the FS5 is a TRUE cinema camera thru and thru.. It's potential is limitless with the RAW 12bit 4K... As long as you know how to grade footage.. And the fact was I also was able to get a Atomos shogun inferno that same day for $600.. got my SDI cables and SDDs through BH and I was set to start learning my new camera.. So far so good.. I love how easy it is to Rig up the fS5.. I bought some small rig plates and monitor holders and I can move the evf around, and even use it on a gimbal.. And if I dont need RAW for a project I got great codecs with low bitrates in 10bit internal.. The AF works for me when needed.. just a s slow contrast AF I believe.. I dont think its phase detect at all.. The A7riii AF is amazing for video, though the new IV has eye AF for video, which is like dual pixel AF from canon. But only 8 BIT !! and I am learning to grade and 8 bit I cant push my colors.. Whole reason I got the Atomos shogun inferno was to shoot RAW though. Yea it adds some weight to the camera but with the shoulder rig mount I built its no problem and if I want to go hand held I can. But to be able to use VTG s16 lenses, S35 lenses, and Now that I am going to purchase a FF speedbooster, I can start to invest into some EF mount glass which I will be able to use on my Sonys with an adapter, but I still got all my GM glass, the 24mm, 35mm(zeiss1.4), 551.8(zeiss) 85GM, and my new favorite 135mm GM... But if you own EF glass, then you have the ability to pick whatever works for you.. IF you got E mount glass, your stuck with Sony... Which I dont mind at all.. Tough choices though and tbh, I dont think you can go wrong with either.. IF you want amazing IQ and great color science then go with BMPCC.. If you want better battery life, auto internal ND, and a more robust cine style camera then go with FS5. good luck with your choice.. I know I went back and forth a bunch.. If you got the $$, buy BOTH. Also another reason I bought the FS5 was to have the colors match up easier.. I can use my FS5 as my A cam and my A7riii as my B cam. and I can get the same picture profiles and same looks with relative ease.. If you use to different camera manufacturers, and 2x different kinds of lenses and mix n match, its just alot more time in POST to match everything.. its a real pain.. That was another deciding factor along with the biggest fact that I am heavily invest in E mount glass.. And I was not going to unload my G glass for a fraction of what I paid for it, in order to downgrade to M 4/3 or older dated EF glass, though alot of that glass is amazing also. Pick a system and stick with it. G luck Again With Your Choice.3 points -

I'm quite happy of the result this 3rd music video of Esteban Luc gives, with Aivascope 1.5x anamorphic, especially the 2nd part, where the sun was there. Tell me what you think GH4 (UHD and slowmo FHD) + Pentax speedbooster + Pentax-m 40mm f2.8 + Aivascope Pro 1.5x anamorphic lens + ND filter2 points -

Last night I confirmed that the Panasonic 14mm f2.5 and the Panasonic 14-42mm kit lens are very similar in colour, so are close enough to be considered identical, which means I can shoot with both the GH5 and the Micro at the same time. This is really important as it means that I can shoot clips for comparison in rapidly changing lighting, instead of having a gap where I have to move the lens between cameras and the light might change during that delay. In order to accomplish this, I've just spent / wasted about an hour finding a rig that allows both cameras to be usable at the same time, where I can access everything on both, and can be tripod mounted or hand-held.. Behold the ugliness! I've also worked out a bunch of lens combinations that will have the same FOV where the "good" lens is sometimes on the GH5 and sometimes on the Micro. My plan is that once I've matched the colour and resolution we can get to testing mojo, and for that I want to be able to eliminate the factor of the lens, and I'll also be doing some blind (and anonymous) tests to see which people prefer, so having a rig that I can shoot with easily will be critical. As such, I had to work out all the combinations of lens filter thread sizes and making sure that every lens on both could get a variable ND and the Micro would always have the IR /UV cut filter too, so all those are now ordered. That was another hour of my life I'll never get back! I've also been thinking about what Juan said and I think I've wrapped my head around it and now have a plan.... 😈😈😈2 points

Black bars makes everything more "cinematic"
Andrew Reid and one other reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
Well we are meeting up again (in a different country) later this month but considering our last escapade involved forgetting to bring lens adapters, cables, doing deep focus shots with a lens adapter that didn't focus to infinity on the only lens that was common to all cameras we were supposed to be comparing and only having a tripod that would struggle with the weight of a postage stamp then three minutes of shooting is quite optimistic. As I've just managed to pick him up his very own Contax Zeiss 35-70mm that I will be handing over to him (so I can stop him using mine) then it might well become an homage to that lens. Although I wouldn't rule out me forgetting to bring both of them.2 points -

While not 4k, I would recommend a C100 for low light. The 1080p will be better (in quality and low light) than the EOS R 1080p and they are easy to match. You might even get away with mixing C100 1080p and EOS R 4k without anyone noticing. You can find these C100 like dirt cheap. Found myself one for 800€ with atomos ninja 2 and other stuff included.2 points -

The funny thing is, the only FF that matches or exceeds the features of the GH5 are... Made by Panasonic! Honestly the fact we're having this conversation is a sign of how fortunate we are. 20 years ago I never imagined that I'd have access to the cameras we have today. I figured at best I'd pinch my pennies until I could buy a XL1 or XL2 second hand. That was "the dream." I feel kind of fortunate that I'm still very much that 15 year old at heart, and still view things from a similar perspective. I realize how lucky I am, because young me would die to of had a GX85, let alone an A7iii or GH5! 😂2 points -
Well my willpower didn't last, purchased my own Sony F3 with active EF adapter, rig, SD to SxS adapter, v-mount power adapter, and 3 full size NP batteries for $800. The batteries and EF adapter are worth that by themselves.2 points

Alright I have talked to the small business man, and he has agreed to help me with filming him. I will say that I will be patient with the process and having to film this will take a good amount of time, and also there will be a lot happening during this time, so again I have to be patient. Is there any advice you all have in filming a small business for an advertisement on Facebook and Youtube?1 point -

Ohhhh.... forgot about that! And I live just a few meters away from the start line. I really should run it. But then again, maybe I should not.... Our incompetent government needs to panic a bit more! As our biosecurity is super tight usually, we won't even let you bring in so much as a slice of apple! OH NO, WE'LL FREAK RIGHT OUT IF YOU TRY THAT! Into jail you go. But if you walk off the airplane coughing and sneezing? Nah all good old mate, just wave you right in, and hand you this flyer to read. Every time I open up the Facebook app I see yet more friends of mine mentioning that jobs have been cancelled, and they're losing out on work. But they're all overseas friends, such as losing out because SXSW got cancelled. Which is crazy, as usually during SXSW it is so insanely busy you couldn't get an Austin Sound Mixer for love or gold! They're all booked out. But now I'm seeing them post about their entire week being free and open. Haven't noticed anybody locally saying this, wellll.... one cameraman here in Auckland posted that yesterday that his week suddenly opened up, but don't know if that was coronavirus related or not. Missed out last week on the latest fully loaded Lectrosonics Venue 2 for sale going dirt dirt cheap! So annoyed about that, would really have liked it. But I didn't have the six grand spare to buy it 😞 However you're right, even if I did, I probably shouldn't have purchased it as I should watch my spending. As we might have a some very dry months coming up ahead for us freelance contractors. However, I did add a Lectrosonics LT to my collection this week 😉 Wooo!1 point

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
mercer reacted to Matt Kieley for a topic
So I read back in October that the BMPCC 4k added at 2.6k crop mode that "suitable for Super 16mm lenses" according to cinema5D. Has anyone used this? Is it a proper s16 crop or something fairly close? With a tax return coming, I'm thinking of upgrading from the BMMCC, which I'm using with my beloved vintage c-mount lenses, and I don't want to buy more lenses to cover the full sensor). I'm curious to hear from anyone who has had both the Micro and P4K. I'm thinking of going for the P4K for the low light and higher res (2.6K also seems optimal for going higher res but not as high as 4K, to save card/drive space and possibly use the same cards from the Micro. I've seen people online able to get 12:1 raw on the 95mbps Extreme Pros). The Micro has a wonderful image most of the time, but some things that bother me about it.1 point -

He could get an EOS R for cheaper though which would make more sense if he's matching cameras. I feel like an XT3 especially used would be a great bargain. If you don't need 4k a used A7S is even cheaper plus the low light performance is the best money can buy.1 point -

I decided I am going to make an adapter for the URSA mini seeing as there isn't one available for the Mini (non pro version). It honestly should be really simple. Just going to remove an EF mount off a cheap adapter and attach it to a piece of sheet metal cut to size. Than I'll just have to shim it until its the perfect distance from the sensor. I am a bit jealous. I wish I was able to pick that one up for $500 I talked about earlier. I might hold out and get a Z-cam S6 down the road. They have an Electronic Variable ND adapter for it and I've been really impressed with the IQ on those cameras. I am jealous 🤣1 point -

In my opinion the GH5S/BMPCC4K/E2/Terra are "better" in lowlight, as sure the a7 series might have a small edge if you're obsessed purely and only about noise levels. But the colors turn to sh*t with the a7 at high ISOs! (not that they ever started out too super great with the Sonys) While the GH5S etc holds onto it better as you push up the ISO, thus you're left with a better looking image. Nonsense. 1) there is not true whatsoever in being possibly just with FF, you can do this exactly just the same with S35/APS-C/MFT/S16 2) shooting to intentionally be cropping later in post is baaaad for sound, bad for the art department, bad for lighting, bad for the actors, etc... don't do it! Especially now! With the Coronavirus. Yup, even in a thread about the GH6, during a conversation specifically about "sized doesn't matter" like you think, then someone just a couple of hours ago basically said "M43 is poopie because sensor is small" as they're implying on a "small sensor" you can't crop & pan. What nonsense!1 point

At the time, it blew me away and truth be told if I dug it out again now it probably still would. The criminal lack of use it has had is a long boring story and I now don't live in the same country where it is in long term storage so I can't imagine that will change any time soon! Its ironic that RED named their phone after the lightest element because God knows they built the RED ONE case out of some yet to be declassified alien type of heavy element. Thats one aspect that kills it for a great many people that could really benefit from how cheap you can get a used setup for now as its not something you can just pick up (literally and figuratively) and go out shooting with on a whim really. I think pride in ownership and sharing common ground and knowledge with other users of the same product/brand, whether its cameras or cars, was always OK in principle but the internet has warped the fuck out of it really. Or maybe just fully exposed the undertones that have always been inherent in it ! I think Apple was the template for that. And I always blamed Steve for that1 point

Congrats on the purchase (what a deal you got, wow!). I also think that Minolta Rokkor MC 58/1.4 is one of the most underrated gems, especially when converted to EF mount - a very versatile option with great character. Managed to grab many good shots with it. Though I must admit that I sold my copy a couple of weeks ago, since I no longer needed 58 mm focal length and nifty fifties are much smaller and lighter than this hefty piece of craftsmanship. Right now my 50 mm lens of choice is Pentax M 50/1.7.1 point -
