Canon will be announcing a new Cinema EOS camera ahead of NAB in April

I work (and have worked) in multiple rental houses that have rented to all types of productions. Easyrigs get rented a lot, but mostly to commercials and branded content. They work great for getting that spontaneous, free-floating handheld look, shot-from-the-hip style that's prevalent now in ads, both on TV and stuff that get's aired on Youtube. It's also great for documentary work, since it allows to hold the camera for much longer periods of time. 20, 30, 40 minute handheld takes become much easier with an Easyrig. For actual dramatic, narrative material, easyrigs are used much less. Dramatic cinematography relies on the ability to control your frame and land precisely on marks. This is really hard to do with an Easyrig because it tends to swing the camera when you turn. Also, extended handheld tracking shots are impossible because when you walk with an Easyrig, the motion from your hips gets transmitted through the arm and is visible in the footage. There is a use for the Easyrig for helping with low-angle handheld shots with really heavy rigs (such as Alexa 65, or Venice with certain anamorphic lenses), but the standard in handheld cinematography is a well-balanced camera on the shoulder and a pair of strong hands either holding grips, or the mattebox.3 points -

Apologies for the slowness, they're going out at snail speed. If you haven't received it yet, and want to get it right away, just send me an email (most should have it by now). I'm going to resend some of the first, because I believe they went to spam. Before the summer2 points

Not sure that the Oscar nominees are a good reference for the entire industry. Also not sure how it relates to anyone in the market for a sub 2k camera.2 points -
Canon EOS 1D MKIII specs revealed
independent reacted to gt3rs for a topic
Got the 1Dx III yesterday and I did play around a bit here some first observations: The good: Camera is really fast in everything, scrolling to images, menu etc.. is faster than the 1Dx II 20 fps silent shooting is really good and there is no slideshow effect is more like looking at video at 20fps. Normal OVF seems to be improved and with the people/face priority seems to do a good job, test with 50mm at 1.2 in af-servo with my kid and was quite impressive. In LV with eye tracking is almost perfect. The new AF touch joystick seem useful, need to get used a bit more but is already working out well for me. FF 5.5k and 4k the image quality is really good. 4k crop it is similar to the 1Dx II but with the benefit of 10bit and log. 120fps FHD seems the same as the 1Dx II but would need to test more (also here benefits is 10bit log and also EIS works at 120fps too) Video AF is a big improvements over the 1Dx II, face / eye tracking works really well. Also tracking objects seems better than the 1Dx II. For manual AF peeking and the arrows are quite useful. EIS work surprisingly well at least from my first test especially up to 50mm, above is not that effective (at 200mm is not that great) but this is known. With a 24 1.4 seems gopro 7 style stabilization that is quite cool but need to test it out more. All files types are now natively supported in Resolve so CRM, 10bit h265 and 8bit h264. The not so good: You can record RAW on one card and 4k proxy on another but you cannot record a 4k on both card at the same time. I knew it before but just doublechecked. The video format menu is a mess, would be cool to be able to disable modes that I never use like all the HD ones and the IPB ones. With the USB-C cable you can mount the camera as storage but strangely enough you can copy any file but not the CRM, you need to open the canon tool to copy. Of course with the card reader it works for all files. Still no histogram while recording video, also no zoom in while recording. On my machine with Resolve (Nvidia 1070) the h265 10 bit files are not HW decoded so they are very slow much slower that the RAW. H264 are fine. Apparently 1070 can only do h265 4:2:0 10bit HW decoding. 2070 can do also 4:4:4 but could not find if it can do 4:2:2. As the LV AF is so good they could have offered an EVF as addon a la M6 so you can have both OVF and EVF. Tomorrow I will have my first ice hockey match with it so I can test the AF for photo, I will try a bit with OVF and a bit in LV, maybe if I have time I will try to record some video too.1 point -

Hi Everyone, One of the shorts I wrote/directed recently finished its festival run and we released it online today. I figure I’d post here for you guys to check out. We shot it on a C200 (using raw) and regular Zeiss glass.1 point -

Bought two cheap led lights of Amazon a moth or so ago. Don't normally buy of amazon, had to open an account normally i get most of my stuff of ebay. However i found a review of some cheap led lights from dslr video shooter. but couldn't find them on ebay. I'm impressed they don't flicker. Been waiting for some other parts to arrive and now they have. Dust has been a bit of a problem this or last year, more to the point. So i have been thinking of how to keep them clean as i'm not big on dusting i plan on using them for accent lights. I also bought some cheap bike clamp light holders they seem to open wide enough to grip a 45mm table edge ok. Since i love the orange teal look, i bought a bunch of gel filter material and a meter long length of perspex pipe i cut the pipe into three sections long enough to cover the led lights and cut some orange and blue gel filter material to slide inside the perspex. The filter material is one and a half times the diameter of the tube. I can either use them at normal strength or turn the light 180 degrees and get a double strength filter. I plan on getting a mate to turn up some caps for the top and bottom shortly just need to measure the barrel of the charging lead hopefully its smaller than the larger of the tripod threads. I just eyeballed the bottom of the p4k rig it has provision for both thread sizes and the lead with the round charging port will fit inside the larger thread quite comfortably i think. At some point bike mount clamps may not be suitable all the time, I sort of figure i'll get some stands, with the thread on the bottom it should be easy to mount them on stands in the future.1 point -
GH5 to BMMCC conversion.......attempt!
heart0less reacted to kye for a topic
Ok, I think I've got my head around a few things. The unknowns are: UV filter Lenses RGB filters on sensor WB image processing on GH5 Colour profile (3D LUT) on GH5 Compression UV filter and Lens I have eliminated by testing the UV filter and 14mm lens vs 14-42mm lens without UV filter, and these are within ~1% of each other, so as I am not going to get within 1% in my matching, I can eliminate these as variables between the cameras. RGB filters on the sensor I can work out the transformation for by matching a RAW still image from the GH5 to a RAW DNG from the Micro in uncompressed RAW. Compression is separate to colour so I can treat that separately via resolution tests. WB image processing on the GH5 and the Colour Profile will take some doing, but here's the plan. The camera applies the RGB filters, then on top of that applies the WB, then on top of that applies the Colour Profile. So, what I have to do is to correct the colour profile, then the WB, then convert the RGB filters from the GH5 to the Micro, then I will have a matching GH5 image in Linear to the Micro image in Linear. So, firstly I work out the RGB filter adjustments (via a 3x3 in Linear). Then I construct the following: <colour profile compensation> ------> <WB compensation> ----> RGB compensation. At first I will know the third, but not the first and second. The trick is separating them, so I can shoot the same image in two different WB settings. If I make it so that one of the shots has had the right WB and one has the wrong WB, then I just make it so that one has a WB adjustment built in and one does not, and then I work out how to make the colour profile compensation so that it works for both WB settings. This should separate the WB adjustment from the colour profile compensation. This should give an adjustment that will work regardless of the WB on the clip. Hooray for year 10 algebra1 point -
Guess it’s a question of patience. I received it today. Still completely happy with the purchase and tbh it’s part of the reason I’m holding onto my GH5 even though I’m doing way more photography than videos lately.1 point

Not being defensive, even though seems to you and I bet for 66% others over here if so : D BTW majorities don't break my heart anyway, I confess I have a weakness for minorities... ; ) The point is we live in a selfish society. People go to YT but mind you they post their findings here? I just see many of people today coming everywhere and collect to their own benefit. It's sick. Wanna know my opinion? I write it anyway... LOL I didn't take as offense (hence my disclaimer up there), I address it merely as a point. People are too lazy to scroll the page down. Reason why many videos to worth your time as you say or bother your curiosity are always better to pretend you're not aware of their existence... LMAO People prefer to jump and comment on YT among strangers more often than I like to see. I still fuel these type of forum communities to flourish so I'd rather bring the discussions to here for some good reason. Take a look on my posting activity, my friend, I am even ashamed for the time spent so I don't see the need for words when I can avoid them. BTW "recommended" by AI, you mean? ; ) It is not the same as coming from my scrutiny, trust me, I rarely post anything randomly, well, I even take my time to choose them yet ; -) In a line: YT is a mess.1 point

I figure out your point and obviously respect that but, the same way I won't comment if I subscribe or not the way you or anyone here introduces your content or the color you choose to wear and rule your choices or daily life, I believe we must be tolerant with the difference. To begin with. Words or declarations of will are not enough. People reveal their guts along their deeds, above all. Even because I think you're used to already see me to write dozens of lines over here, isn't it? Then, I guess the fact I second that venerable premise of a picture is worth a thousand words, it should be sufficient to also fit your turn trying to understand the other side. Comes to my mind when people don't make a single effort to learn the foreign idiom but are expecting we have to be fluent on theirs... LOL ; ) On the other hand, search button didn't orient me to any thread you or any other here had remembered to open on such interesting topic well expressed through a couple of words as thread's title coming from 1st video posted BTW... can you answer me why? My turn to add my two cents now : ) In my native land, we're used to resume the whole thing in a couple of words. To resume my point: sofa coach. I am eager to see your contribution to be straightforward with you as well. I am not paid as much as everyone of us guests here, but I'd sincerely appreciate to see more people to find and select content outside and address it to this community. Really. Rather than criticize who spends a few of his time, even short, to do it. Because if you don't care, you always have the option to ignore it. Don't feel too bored or constrained to do it please : -) Maybe my habit to invariably post not only one or two videos as 99% of people usually do when bother to contribute, to follow my customary deep research (I only found 13 videos this time, I'm sorry : P), may have produced your reaction? If so, I invite you to read again the 1st paragraph of this post and show a bit more recognition or even gratitude once you arrived in this page after all. Pardon my lack of modesty now, but when I perform anything I am used to leave it complete, despite the form chosen. You know what? I normally start to look for coming to these boards and only when I see none of you had the generosity to add anything substantial on subject or organized in a thread, I decide to share the product of my search. For the sake of promoting discussion in addition. As index applies besides. Disclaimer: I sincerely appreciate and don't mind at all about your words, Snowfun. I take them as useful add-on anyway. My response is more prone to be addressed to some other ones who may concur on that, though :- D1 point

Yes eleison I'm not really sure what point you are actually making and to be honest lost interest a long time ago. You say technology waits for no man etc... and as anonim has pointed out, the cutting edge comes to m43 a long time before it does full frame - we're still waiting for that to catch up with much of what the gh5 has been offering for years. And you also say let's wait for the unicorn that is the A7s3 and lets not go chasing the latest and greatest. Am confused... Anyway always excited to see where a possible gh6 could push what's possible for mirrorless video, Panasonic are always trying to provide the best they can as opposed to Sony's recent regurgitation of 8 bit overheating jello vision1 point -
I'm the manager of a movie theater on Cape Cod, our business has been absolutely tanking this month compared to last year. Photokina 2020 - victim of coronavirus?
kaylee reacted to heart0less for a topic
Well, I didn't have to wait long - there is a case of COVID-19 in the hospital where I'm having my classes right now. He's on a proper isolation ward, but still. We, students, are to avoid any contact with all the patients, since we're almost perfect vectors for the virus, but are still obliged to attend our courses, even though all we do is having countless seminars. Plain stupid, if you ask me.0 points
