A country should be governed by a government, not a toddler dictator that goes from 'we got this, it's just a flu, nothing to see here people, don't worry, business as usual' to 'DEFCON 5! RED ALERT! LOCKDOWN PROTOCOL INITIATED!' in a fingersnap, relies on his flawed personal judgements rather than listening to expert advice. Well, one thing's for sure, we haven't seen the last of it yet. Man, simple island life just living of the land doesn't seem so bad right now.

Anything else thats an anagram of ban? Speaking of bans, the travel one that Trump has just imposed from Europe that for some reason doesn't include the UK is utterly mind boggling even by his standards.

  4. Just got an email from a client that told me their event is canceled to avoid potential virus spreading. A lucrative booked gig is now off my calendar. So...what are your biz'ness horror stories about this novel virus to share? Especially in the USA? My guess is that we're a few days away from reported cases going bananas in this country. So, new numbers combined with bungling government response that causes unnecessary chaos --and then somewhat back to normal (the "new normal") a few months down the line, hopefully.

Here in Italy we are in an almost total lockdown. Shops closed, pubs closed, schools closed, church service reduced, public events canceled, sporting events canceled, public transport reduced and so on. And this until April at least. We even need a valid reason to go outside in case the police ask (and they do), with valid reasons being work, health problems, purchase of food, visiting a sick relative, going back home and things like these. I have never seen my country so empty. You really do see not many people around, which by Italian standars is quite strange. You can also see people going around with a mask, which has never been a habit here, and people not giving a hug and a kiss when meeting each other, which instead has always being a common Italian habit. I also think that this virus is still a flu, even though quite a strong one. And being a flu (that is low mortality, high diffusion), I guess the number of people being infected is way more than the number found with the test. The test doesn't give you a real number of total cases, just the number you found and a rough estimate on the population. Probably there are many people who got infected but never got sick, and others that, even if sick , were just having minor symptoms, like the ones normally associated to a flu or a cold. Otherwise it's hard to explain such an explosion of cases in the past 10 days. Other European countries are just 2 weeks behind us and should lock everything down now, not in two more weeks. Spain is having a surge in cases now, 3000 already with a population half the Italian one in a country twice as big. This virus is not so dangerous by itself if you are not already weak for other reasons (age, cancer, hearth problems, diabetes, etc.) but it can have a strong impact on the healthcare system.

Governments are too slow to react. Chinese were only one of the few to succeed to control it. Later but succeeded it. As Japanese too. For some reason cameras are usually made there, we can understand now why. The rest of the world should be ashamed, especially Europe. As European citizen, I am. We have no rulers, but a bunch of clowns.

I posted in the other thread but I'll expand. Manager at a Movie theater in Cape Cod, looks like we will close if the schools do, past two weeks I will not be receiving any income from them. So many previously schedule events have been cancelled and attendance is less than half what it was last year. Have two documentaries that were supposed to be this season, both are on hold. Thankfully I have health insurance through my wife and she works from home. I'm looking at this break for editing time for old passion projects and getting things done around the house. Also probably will do dryall work on the side if that is still in demand.

  15. https://www.newsshooter.com/2020/03/12/nab-2020-is-officially-canceled/ Noooooo..... NAB is cancelled!!! I fear its going to get worse in the USA before it gets better. And it has barely even started here in NZ at all. Brace yourself for a global recession. (which I had believed we were overdue for anyway, even before the Coronavirus struck) What now for all the companies who would have been at NAB and made announcements? Announce their new products now? Announce them during when the NAB period would have been? Announce them later on in the year after NAB? (at a different/smaller trade show, that might get cancelled as well? Maybe announcing it late is a better idea? Rather than during the NAB period. As many companies will have their supply chains disrupted and products will be delayed)

  16. When looking for a zoom for my XT3, I discovered the existence of a 25-50mm nikkor AI. Originally, it was a wide zoom for 24x36mm which went from the standard focal to a wide angle. On the XT3โ€™ sensor, it is a zoom very well centered on the standard focal, a bit like an 18-55 but with a narrower range. I found a copy in very good condition on Ebay for 105 $ + 24 $ shipping. I received it yesterday morning and I did a few quick tests in the afternoon. Pros : Optical quality and build contruction Price All manual with 3 rings: aperture, zoom, focus. Cons : Maximum aperture at F4 (too soft, it must be opened at 5.6 at least to have the full quality of this lens) Not Parfocal. The focus moves when you change the focal length. I chose the AI version because focus throw AI version 130ยฐ vs 75ยฐ AIS version. If you want to view some boring crapy shots. password: nikkor2550 https://vimeo.com/397291419?activityReferer=1

I've often wondered about this lens, so I was happy to see your post. Your samples look great. Were you focusing as you were zooming because it looked like it held focus pretty well? Did you shoot this with one of the Fuji's film simulations, or did you grade this? Either way, the color looks nice!

  19. The Ninja V will start recording when it gets the control code from the GH5s through the HDMI port so you should be able to put the GH5s into record using your Ronin and the Ninja V will follow suit as soon as it picks up the code. According to the GH5s manual, this will happen regardless of whether you have a card in the camera. I have the Ninja V but not a GH5s so you should double check this with someone who has the combo or at least confirm it with Panasonic and/or Atomos.

  21. here in italy everything is stopped. I film mainly sporting events and conventions.. so for at least 2 months (if all goes well) all my appointments are cancelled. no income . You can hardly move from home. Just some advice for those of you that aren't in lock down yet: - gather canned and long term foods so you have to go outside least possible. -try to get anti bacteria hand gel before they are sold out. - if you can manage to work from home, prepare for doing so for several weeks. - if you have a house in the middle of nowhere, gather your supplies and get there a.s.ap. anybody around you could be infected.

  24. You didn't have multiple entire countries shutting down like this over those other situations. And Italy too just had "a few" deaths, then a few dozen, then BOOM two hundred deaths in a single day. That's what happens with exponential growth. Don't be complacent now, otherwise soon it will be too late.

If anyone from the US government is watching this Boris Johnson press conference where he's outlining the UK's updated "response" to the crisis then I'd imagine they'll be seriously reconsidering how wise it was to leave the UK out of the travel ban.

Yeah, once organizations start counting numbers, the numbers increase. A lot of that is simply them just paying close attention. Also, it's easy to double numbers when you start with a low number to begin with, so that sort of rhetoric and headlines regarding "Numbers Double!" of the whole thing is to be expected. Still, there's no confidence here in the States that we'll ever have an accurate estimation regarding confirmed cases. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under orders from the executive branch stopped publicly disclosing the number of Americans who have been tested, so our government is once again in "cover-our-asses" mode rather than trying to legitimately help. i.e.: https://youtu.be/x_UuV5v34x0 My understanding is that the various shut downs for COVID are basically an attempt to slow the inevitable spread so that hospitals do not get overwhelmed treating the frail and infirm that get hit with the virus. They're trying to avoid triage.

    ...your LUTs?

I made one myself so that I can properly monitor what I'm recording and see if I set my WB correctly. It's meant for X-T3 HLG profile and is based on simple Resolve adjustments: some contrast tweaks and a couple of Color Space Transforms. Nothing groundbreaking, but can be used as a simple, non-technical input LUT. Here it is, if anyone wants to take a look at it: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hdFQBsLDf3Fxb50o8qxyyrUd24IDWvzt

I lost a well-paying gig that required travelling within the region (Southeast Asia) as early as late January/early February as the virus situation had already started developing in Asia by then. But there've been other smaller local jobs coming in that have at least covered 1/3 of what I lost.

I've done this before and have tried to send along a shot sheet/brief that would help folks get better shots. For some people it works, for others it doesn't. Don't get upset about this. Again, it's out of your control.

  48. Well, I didn't have to wait long - there is a case of COVID-19 in the hospital where I'm having my classes right now. He's on a proper isolation ward, but still. We, students, are to avoid any contact with all the patients, since we're almost perfect vectors for the virus, but are still obliged to attend our courses, even though all we do is having countless seminars. Plain stupid, if you ask me.
