Depending on what happens in the next month, the price point in the UK will either be around £3.5K or two tins of soup, 20 sheets of toilet paper and two squirts of hand sanitiser. Plus VAT in both cases obviously.6 points -

We shot this over a few days in Canada on the Panasonic S1 and Mavic pro 2. Honestly I can't be happier with the S1. Having shot on the A7iii and the A7sii for the past years the S1 is quite an advance in image quality. There is so much latitude in post and the dynamic range is really great in comparison.5 points

Don't worry, not all of us 'mericans are drinking the oddly orange colored Kool Aid currently being served up by the Cheeto in Chief, along with his usual sides of confusion, baseless self-aggrandizement, ruthless politicizing and swindling the gullible. But those who are drinking it... well you've read the results of that right here.4 points

On the plus side, some short films I'm involved in are getting moved up to shoot in the next couple weeks because shooting locations are now easy to get. Gonna spend most of the "break" finishing some editing projects and probably making a reel for myself.3 points

I have a look if I can find some dngs as i mostly shot prores. I am rocking the mini 4K since 3 years now, also got it because the 4.6 was way out of my reach. I was skeptical at first as well mainly about DR and the never ending rumors about the necessity to rig it up.Well, slap a small v-mount battery on it put in a cfast card and you are good to go; no cables no flimsy stuff. About DR, yes...there isn't much headroom in the highlights in prores (even in 444). You just wont be able to hold the sun if it's in your background and you try to expose for the skin even a little bit; small sony or canon apsc cameras do have more highlight retention and more DR on first sight for sure. What i fell in love with is the color information in the given DR. There is just so much more color information and fine gradation in the mids and shadows. Also the global shutter is just magic for everything that moves...no matter if the subject moves or the camera. If you shoot fashion shows with lots of flash light..you just cant beat the look of global shutter here. It's bad in lowlight, as are my eyes. So i never cared about it. thats my very first test shot with the ursa, shot in prores 422 hq in hd only, its a noobish clip for sure but I got quite a bit better with handling that camera since then. As you can see if you are not careful the highlights clip away easily in a sunny day.3 points

Does This count as a selfie??? I was on a job (real estate photography) and I had climbed to the top of the backyard to photograph the view. Unfortunately, it had rained earlier in the morning and when coming back down I slipped and fell on my keister. My new(ish) Panasonic S1 - which I was holding - fired off a shot at the moment of impact with the ground. I do NOT recommend doing this.3 points -

No need to apologise.. unless you represent the sun, that is It's a strange thing, but the sun here in WA is stronger than on the east coast, and the Aussie sun is stronger than elsewhere, like Europe or Asia. My skin is fair, but I could go out in the sun for an hour or so when I was in Italy and not get burnt, but here it's like 10 minutes. I've gotten burnt wearing a wide-brimmed hat sitting in a chair on the side of a grass sports field, which is completely ridiculous. Anyway, isn't it your turn to post a selfie? I have a vague recollection you might have posted one before at some point...? Great pic. Nothing broken in your lighting or composition skills!2 points

Easy. Just pick the one that looks most like you playing the lead in an Indy film called Modern Ninja where you are John Normal, a man who achieves invisibility through being unremarkable and where special skills are centred around his ability to talk about local sporting events, a passionate love but mediocre understanding of politics and global affairs, and traditional and slightly close-minded values.2 points

As much as I don't want to discuss Covid-19 on a video site, I would like to ask my fellow forum members to not horde every single bit of soap and antibacterial hand sanitizer... Antibacterial soaps/hand sanitizer gel will not kill Covid-19 because it is a virus and not a bacteria. Hand washing with regular soap will have a more beneficial effect. With that said, when soap isn't available, hand sanitizer is an acceptable alternative but it will only have a lasting effect if everyone has access to it. So please don't be one of the assholes that are stocking up for the End of Days.2 points

Another tip is to tell people to hold the camera really still for 10s. I once gave a camera to some friends during an event to film and when I looked at the footage afterwards I realised that everyone waved it around like they were watering the lawn - I ended up pulling stills from it as the camera only settled onto anything for 3-4 frames. I was mad until I remembered that I did that the first few times I filmed anything. It seems to be a common thing when people hold a camera for the first time. If you do get vertical video then you can use several shots side-by-side in a Sliding Doors kind of way, and I've deliberately shot vertically on my phone on a travel day for the express purpose of using this layout. I used it to show the same location over time so showed the shots simultaneously instead of via jump-cuts, and I also did a bunch of shots out of the window of the moving train to show the diversity of the landscape. This works for fancy b-roll, but if you get a speaking part then maybe put that one centre and use the audio from that one and have the ones on the sides as b-roll. Definitely get people good mics. I've used the Rode ones that plug into the microphone port on a smartphone and they're pretty good, but IIRC the cheap knock-offs are almost as good and much cheaper. You can use the opportunity to get creative shots too.. The trick to take-away from this video (which is a bit of a one-trick video) is that the camera was mounted to something stable and had the subject in a consistent location in the frame without much movement. I think you're in danger of each person taking footage that is all the same - one person might only take landscape shots from far away or another might only take close-ups. Some advice about trying to get lots of different shots (far away, close up, from above, from down low, etc) and to make them interesting. I suspect that people will want to shoot good footage but won't know how. Think of how many beginners say things like "I would never have thought of doing that". It's also dangerous to give people too many instructions, so I'd suggest only giving them the top ones. Maybe something like: hold your phone horizontally / point the microphone at the person talking / hold it steady and count to 5 before hitting stop / get lots of different shots / make them interesting. Good luck! If you're given enough footage you can make something useful, shooting ratios are a thing and b-roll doesn't have to be super related.2 points

Seriously, ha ha. Even the tone of their press release seemed so “mavericky” and un-Canon like ha ha. Wondering about price point. With the language about “every photographer – not just professionals” seems they’ve gone out of their way to say this will be much more affordable than the 1Dx Mark iii.1 point -

Is it this one ? http://www.ggsfoto.com/en/products/OCULAR.html Looks very smart with the Hasselblad 500CM styling ! I bought a (very) cheapo rubber collapsible loupe which was 3.2 inch and works well on the FP but I need to sort out a mount for it. Based on that, the Nikon D5 version of the Ocular would be the one to get as its the same screen size and the frame looks to be equal thickness on each edge. This is a UK dealer/distributor for it https://www.cameraclean.co.uk/products.php?cat=Ocular+Folding+Viewfinder+-+Black I've bought quite a few bits off them at the Photo/Video show at the NEC over the years and they were set to be there for this year's one until the cancellation which would have been an ideal time to have a hands on look at the Ocular. The stuff they pick up distribution for has always been decent quality though so, for me personally, that would maybe less of a risk of the unknown as a blind purchase if they are selling them.1 point -

If it can match the a9 and shoot 20fps with the electronic shutter, sensor readout speed should be pretty good. I bet its better than the 4k on Sony's various a6x00 models. With a CFExpress card 10-bit and even raw internal should be a breeze. Found a great deal on a used EOS R and EF adapter and I'm slowly selling off my Sony gear to move to the R system. Despite the goofy touch bar and lackluster specs, its a great camera in use - and the AF improvements Canon has made put it on par with the newer Sony's. For now I'll use the XT3 for action since the R is kind of lethargic with its (non) high speed bursts. With adapters adapter I can be system polyamorous and use EF glass between Sony, Fuji and the R. I can wait out Covid-19, but the R5/R6 is giving me a serious case of G.A.S. For me this just keeps getting better, DPAF, IBIS, 4k120p, 40-something mp, its shaping up to be the hybrid I've been waiting for. Good times. Chris1 point -
Post photos of your anamorphic rig!
leslie reacted to heart0less for a topic
Bringing the topic back from the dead. This is what you get, if you are advised to stay home and have some time at your hands. Some people fix broken cabinets, some paint walls, I opted for completing the rig and making it more handy. X-T3, Helios 44-4 via dumb adapter, Tiffen Variable ND, Isco Ultra Star (1st Gen), myFM from Eugene Myreev. And at the back: 10,000mAh power bank plus NP-F750 battery, both acting as a counterweight and supplying power to the camera and external monitor (Fotga A50TL). The coiled cable is responsible for triggering recording remotely, so that I don't have to touch the camera buttons, at all. I was lucky enough to get the majority of parts from SmallRig, and at discounted prices (I paid 8$ for the cage, 15$ for the baseplate, 10$ for the top handle). The strap acts like a cheap-o alternative to easyRig, I just hang it off my neck. And it fits into my backpack!1 point -
Governments are too slow to react. Chinese were only one of the few to succeed to control it. Later but succeeded it. As Japanese too. For some reason cameras are usually made there, we can understand now why. The rest of the world should be ashamed, especially Europe. As European citizen, I am. We have no rulers, but a bunch of clowns.1 point

A very low budget one made by interns though ! They are stills but its not exactly full moot but certainly moot-ish when it comes to this camera because not only are the CinemaDNG files very much in the same ballpark quality wise but its 440Mbps ALL-I mov mode is pretty malleable as well. This is not exactly a great content example at all and is far from being a deliberate A/B test (it happened because I accidentally had it in Movie mode when I was meant to to take a still ) and it has different framing and in motion etc but hopefully offers some sort of illustration. The top frame is a DNG still and the bottom one is sourced from a screenshot JPEG of the UHD mov file in VLC and then they're coloured to sort of match. I'm taking my time with it before I come to any sort of conclusion and will likely do a review thread when I have. My time with it has been complicated/compromised by the circumstances in Japan as the whole permanent facemask thing is, whilst absolutely necessary, a real pain in the arse when it comes to operating a camera. Particularly one with no EVF as I'm having to hold it at arms length which means I have to put my glasses on which means they are prone to steaming up in the damp weather we had with the breath from the mask etc etc. So now I'm back home I'll be able to look at it in more depth. The initial impression is that the quality is certainly there and that my original view of it when it was first announced as it being the spiritual full frame successor to the original BMPCC has been borne out. But of course, that succession also comes with the same sort of quirks and caveats so its not all golden !1 point

Canon EOS 1D MKIII specs revealed
independent reacted to gt3rs for a topic
Got the 1Dx III yesterday and I did play around a bit here some first observations: The good: Camera is really fast in everything, scrolling to images, menu etc.. is faster than the 1Dx II 20 fps silent shooting is really good and there is no slideshow effect is more like looking at video at 20fps. Normal OVF seems to be improved and with the people/face priority seems to do a good job, test with 50mm at 1.2 in af-servo with my kid and was quite impressive. In LV with eye tracking is almost perfect. The new AF touch joystick seem useful, need to get used a bit more but is already working out well for me. FF 5.5k and 4k the image quality is really good. 4k crop it is similar to the 1Dx II but with the benefit of 10bit and log. 120fps FHD seems the same as the 1Dx II but would need to test more (also here benefits is 10bit log and also EIS works at 120fps too) Video AF is a big improvements over the 1Dx II, face / eye tracking works really well. Also tracking objects seems better than the 1Dx II. For manual AF peeking and the arrows are quite useful. EIS work surprisingly well at least from my first test especially up to 50mm, above is not that effective (at 200mm is not that great) but this is known. With a 24 1.4 seems gopro 7 style stabilization that is quite cool but need to test it out more. All files types are now natively supported in Resolve so CRM, 10bit h265 and 8bit h264. The not so good: You can record RAW on one card and 4k proxy on another but you cannot record a 4k on both card at the same time. I knew it before but just doublechecked. The video format menu is a mess, would be cool to be able to disable modes that I never use like all the HD ones and the IPB ones. With the USB-C cable you can mount the camera as storage but strangely enough you can copy any file but not the CRM, you need to open the canon tool to copy. Of course with the card reader it works for all files. Still no histogram while recording video, also no zoom in while recording. On my machine with Resolve (Nvidia 1070) the h265 10 bit files are not HW decoded so they are very slow much slower that the RAW. H264 are fine. Apparently 1070 can only do h265 4:2:0 10bit HW decoding. 2070 can do also 4:4:4 but could not find if it can do 4:2:2. As the LV AF is so good they could have offered an EVF as addon a la M6 so you can have both OVF and EVF. Tomorrow I will have my first ice hockey match with it so I can test the AF for photo, I will try a bit with OVF and a bit in LV, maybe if I have time I will try to record some video too.1 point
