Do you think there is any chance 4K60 will be with no crop? Cause I couldn’t care less about 8K, much more interested in 4k60p or better 4K120p. 8K will be nice to have in 3 years, I which point I’ll have another camera anyway.3 points

Hey guys, I wanted to let everyone know my experience so far after upgrading to a Sony FS5 in 2020. With all the camera options out there is the FS5 and FS5ii still worth it in 2020? With all the options out there is the FS5 right for you? Comes down to your needs but for me it checked all my boxes. FS5 is light and portable and can be rigged.up to fly on modern gimbals easily. It also can be shoulder mounted with help of 3rd party accessories, I recommend smallrig bc of versatility and build quality, and price. Coming from A7riii the learning curve and all the buttons on side looked daunting. But I suggest getting Doug Jensens course masterclass FS5 off vimeo which took me through step by step to learn camera inside out. Plus also get his vortex media PP for straight out of camera shots. Sooc. After learning the camera and the PP and slog2, you shoot over exposed in slog so you set your zebras and your good to go. What unleashes the power of this camera is the RAW sdi output. The FS5 has 3x firmware paid upgrades. 1. Raw, 2. HFR 3. MPEG codec. Each are $500. With these upgrades installed the FS5 becomes a FS5ii, minus PP1. Which on m2 has different color science on pp1, but when you shoot slog 2 and raw or any other PP above 7, then the RAW out thru SDI is all the same. To unleash this power you must purchase the atomos shogun inferno which I did. This gives you ability to do prores raw 12 bit to an ssd. The cost of ssd have come down and 500gb cost $65. Spots as affordable medium. The reason I chose the FS5 vs a BMPCC 4k or 6k , or canon c200. Or eva1 or ursa cane down to a few reasons. 1. Price - most bang for your buck 2. Auto ND filter - is a game changer. Best thing ever. 3. IQ - with external recorder 12 bit prores raw is powerful 4. Versatility , I can go from tripod, to shoulder mount, to monopod, to gimbal 5. Battery Life, I can use BPU60 batteries to power both the FS5 and Shogun 7in at the same time and get about 2 hrs of juice. 6. E mount - I am already invested heavily in E mount glass so that played a role. 7. Speedbooster to get FF look. I can use a speedbooster to get that FF dof with any EF glass. 8. Centerscan - allows the use of my vtg som. Berthiot and bell and howell vtg lenses for video with no vignette. Also use clear image zoom in 4k mode to 1.5 zoom. No vignettes. 9. Slow motion - 2k 240fps continuous prores raw. HFR - 4k 120p 7 sec burst. 10. Professional and Outputs. XLR audio inputs and SDI outputs are professional grade. Multiple inputs for professional sound. And professional SDI output which is night and day better vs consumer HDMI.. For my situation and needs, the auto ND is only offered through Sony. The auto ND has changed everything. It allows you to shoot w an extra parameter that auto adjusts on fly realtime. No other camera offers Auto ND. Its amazing.. truly amazing.. As for anyone who says sony color science is awful. Blah blah blah.. yes if you shoot naked in pp1 or pp2 default. But you can make changes in paint menu and use Eos HD pp or Vortex media pp if you need a baked in shot. But if you got an atomos your gonna be shooting slog2 or slog2 and sony has technical luts to get the images right there w lil work in post. If you are efficient and just have a little knowledge in resolve you can make your image quality match any other camera on list above. If you are looking to buy Sony FS7 or FS5 now is the time with finding amazing deals online. Remember FS5 is same as FS5ii if it has the upgrades. Minus pp1. Which m2 has a better color science baked in for just pp1. But slog2 and slog2 and raw out all have same look. After all it's the same sensor. My experience has been pretty amazing so far. With release of fx9 and soon to be fx6. Prices will drop even farther. If your invested in sonys eco system maybe it's right for you. if your invested in Canon EF glass the fs5 allows you to use a speedbooster to turn camera into FF and gain an extra stop if light. Pretty kool. What this camera is NOT... 1. It's not the low light king. If u want low light use a A7sii or A7riii w BSI sensors or use new FX9 or FX6 when it drops. 2. Real cinema cameras dont have AF. But that's about to change. Get FX9 for eye AF if invested in E mount glass. If you got EF glass the c200 has Dual pixel AF and so does the C100 new. Version though no 4k in the c100. Also I'm told the c200 build quality is very thin cheap plastic, though I have no experience. Ultimately at the end of the day, the Atomos Shogun unlocks full potential of the FS5 and delivers prores raw to the masses in 4k DCI 12 bit raw. The newest $11k at the moment can only do UHD. As for prores raw workflows, at this time Mar 2020. Prores raw is on FCPx on mac. Windows users will need assimilate scratch 9.1 to be able to transcode on windows. Avid media composer and premiere pro both stated in Sept 2019 they will build in natively prores raw support. I know Adobe is still working on it and not available yet as if March 2020, and avid media composer I do not know if its available yet. I can confirm 100% assimilate scratch9.1 works with prores raw on windows and you can transcode from there. Da Vinci resolve does not allow prores raw but they may allow prores? I dont know I will have to 2x check that or have some1 more knowledge comment. Once its released thru adobe pp and avid that will cement prores raw for years to come as a raw format . I have only had my new camera for a few weeks but I have been tickled pink with the IQ and looks I'm getting not to mention the price I was able to get it for. The camera is a workhorse so far. Its gone above and beyond my expectations. I will continue to update my experiences but dont think bc its 5 yrs old it's not able to get the job done. With the prores raw 12bit sdi out, I would put that IQ against anything out there. If u need FF get a speedbooster and use EF glass. The prices have dropped on FS5 and FS7 but these guys hold their own even to the newest latest and greatest.2 points

One Single Room | Film Challenge

Dear filmmakers of EOSHD! Since many of us are advised to #staythefuckhome and, thanks to that, we found ourselves having plenty of free time, I humbly announce a new film challenge, as proposed by @sanveer and @BTM_Pix: One Single Room In Your House | Film Challenge. I, personally, find the rules suggested by @sanveer very applicable, would you agree with me? Here they are: The only thing I'd add (and take it more as advice, not a rule per se) is: KEEP IT (SHORT AND) SIMPLE aka KISS 😘 Can we count on your support, @Andrew Reid? A blog post of some sort? Who's in?2 points -

He is a piece of work. But as a word of advice. There is a tone, not specifically directed at you, but there is a tone in the left-leaning media reporting and in statements from the anti-Trump crowd that they'd like to see him fail on some level. For instance, the media was more interested in his impeachment trial than covering the early spread of Covid-19. And as soon as that exercise in futility ended, the media moved onto how the Trump Administration failed with their early response to the Covid-19 outbreak.2 points

I live in Eastern France. The hospital covering our area of 225,000 people has 14 ventilators. About 79,000 people will be infected over the next few weeks. About 800 will need the 14 ventilators. It's just math at this point. Old people are in the "sink or swim" situation. The younger ones will get them... The end. I imagine it'll be the same situation all over the USA. Just do the math. Don't tell me the Americans have such a better health system- they don't because I know both of them. The US system is only better when money is no object. As people go into gradual lockdown over the next weeks, I encourage them to seriously think about how their leadership handled the situation and how they could have led better. Vote appropriately. This is potentially one of the biggest events of this new decade.2 points -
100% Australia (and NZ) won't have a surplus at the end of this current budget cycle. The whole world is going to go into a recession. #EndTheFed Without The Fed artificially pumping up the economy then the USA wouldn't need to go through the double pain of the coronavirus and the bubble bursting at the same time. You also have many many more multi generational homes in Italy than in the USA, which could contribute to a higher death toll. However, I personally still believe that in the long run the USA will have a higher death toll than Italy, simply because USA's population is so so much bigger. However which will have the higher number of deaths per capita? I really do not know. Clinton didn't win the election. The election wasn't a popularity contest. (and if it was, then both candidates and both parties would have run their campaigns completely differently, it is almost impossible to predict what would the result have been if it has been a contest on the basis of the popular vote instead) And those predictions based on polling (such as The New York Times saying Clinton had an over 90% chance of winning, or The Princeton Election Consortium gave Clinton a 99 percent chance of winning. Or The Huffington Post’s forecast giving Clinton 98 percent, or how PredictWise gave her 89 percent etc etc) was all based on the fact it is a federal election with an electoral college. (in other words, their predictions were not about her "winning" the popular vote, they were very very very confident about her winning the electoral college. What the actual contest was about)2 points

Heh. We kinda sort of had this just happen in New Zealand. For ages NZ did next to nothing, had a pretty minimal approach. Our Prime Minister said we didn't need to. And then BOOM, almost overnight we've basically kinda closed our borders off (NOBODY can come, not unless they want to get themselves live two weeks in isolation once they arrive) and any gathering over 500 people is banned. Either that, or a world wide macro lens test, as everybody uses the only actors they can find while under house arrest quarantine:2 points

Same situation here in Madrid. Both my wife and I are freelancers and everything has just stopped, no work at all for the foreseeable future (I reckon late April/early May at the earliest). Trying to get a few clients who haven't paid recent jobs to cough up what they can. My wife is thinking she my have to lay off her employee. Grim. It's a total lock down, a very weird situation. You get up in the morning, it's a lovely spring day and think, "A walk in the park would be nice"...and then you remember! We are lucky as we live on the top floor of our building with a 15m2 terrace with plants, bbq etc. I'd hate to imagine what it's be like cooped up in a little flat for 15 days. Having a nine month old baby keeps us occupied mind! Other activities we have to keep us occupied are set up the Ikea hydroponics system we have lying around and try to grow some lettuce, learn how to ferment vegetables and make bread on Youtube, a bit more gardening, try to watch a film, repeat...we are already on day 4 here (only went out for some food and medicines)...tick tock2 points

My municipality is now in lockdown with travel restricted in and out and all bars, cafes, restaurants and leisure facilities closed. I'm pretty sure that it will last much longer than the 14 days currently decreed by the regional President and that we won't be fully back to normal for many months. Being confined to the house isn't too much of an issue for us work wise as we both work from here anyway (though boy did I get out of being a professional sports photographer at the right time as I would be fucked) but it does mean needing something else to fill up the non-working hours to stop us getting cabin fever. I'm guessing that a lot of people on here might well be about to experience similar confinement if they aren't already, so, trying to make lemonade out of lemons, what long put off projects will you be doing ? For me, aside from finishing a couple of the latter Final Fantasy games to get me sharp for the release of the VII remake next month , I think I might look at : Making a start on learning some Unreal Engine stuff Re-wiring/configuring my music studio Having a couple of lens world cup shootouts to try and thin the collection Developing a wireless interface for BM ATEM switchers Advanced urban combat tactics for hand sanitiser purchasing Be interesting to see what people are planning and seeing how those plans progress here to keep our spirits up ? Might even be a good time to have a "One Single Room In Your House Film Challenge"1 point

No. Didn't say that nor hope for any of that. Qualified my definition of what I meant by "Failure". Do you really think I'm some sort of cartoon over here? C'mon now. I don't have a wax mustache and I'm not twirling it with a damsel tied to the railroad tracks. Okay. Okay. Maybe you got me. It's not really a damsel on the railroad tracks, it's an unborn fetus under the heel of my Birkenstock sandals. I am twirling my mustache, but only because I'm proud of it and my new arm pit hair. I was born a woman and have recently transitioned to my true orientation. The hormones are awesome and I can afford them because even though I'm of sound mind and body I'm on unemployment, disability, and food stamps. I threw away my bootstraps while on an Antifa march in Portland during Pride Week. Took me a while to make the decision to accept my real identity, but after numerous trips to my school's gender neutral bathroom and meditating to the Flying Spaghetti Monster I've come to realize that with unprotected premarital sex and a vegan diet I'm ready to take away everyone's guns and jobs. Oh, and then I'll do genocide because bad man in President chair makes me sad. That too. Oh boy. Too much? Was that too much? Curse you internet! You did it to me again!! Speaking of tracks, I've gone off the rails. Sorry about that. I better get outta here. Love you all, seriously.1 point -
I like you, Glenn, and respect you. If I appreciate to be polite with everyone here, imagine with you! Because there are so many Europes... and a free healthcare system won't handle a gross amount of infected people, so doctors will decide who live and let die. This is a terrible tragedy! Two commercial airplanes per day crash in Italy these days. If one would already be a great disaster per se... A considerable percentage will require mechanical ventilation (stats confirm it) and there's not even enough number of ventilators for everyone. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/what-if-two-covid-19-victims-need-ventilators-and-just-one-is-available/1 point

I was thinking of starting a PhD later this year, so I guess when I'm not editing I'll be doing groundwork and putting together a proper proposal on that. Fortunately, I managed to go into my former university's library and photocopy just about every textbook related to the subject area, which should keep me occupied for a good while. But if it drags on then I might have to, shock horror, actually buy some textbooks! If nothing else, I'm actually weirdly glad that the Z6 I purchased last month exploded less than an hour after I first turned it on, and Amazon refused to exchange it, offering me only a refund. Would have been annoying having a nice new mirrorless and being all but unable to actually make use of it. Plus now I'll be able to see if the Canon R6 might be a better buy after all.1 point -

Really great work!!! As a fellow S1 owner, I find it really inspiring, too. For what it is worth... to anyone interested, Cine D on the S1 is the OLD Cine D, while on the S1H there is a new version of Cine D called Cine D2. Not sure what difference it makes. From what I have read... Cine D is supposed to be better for low light than VLOG. I actually tried to do some tests comparing nighttime vlog with HLG and Cine D (I think) but then I had to get a new graphics card, and new power supply, and my computer has been crashing, so I haven't had as much chance to work with it as I would have liked. Maybe by this weekend I can FINALLY get around to making a comparison of the low light footage. Fingers crossed.1 point -

I have to say this is an interesting discussion. I've actually been shopping for one of the knockoff Easyrig's after working with a few crews that used them extensively. The production houses I work with are all smaller shops or in-house teams for ad agencies, but they're pretty commonplace here in Florida. All of the recent VISIT FLORIDA ads were shot with Red's floating on Easyrigs, or Red's mounted on Ronin's floating on Easyrigs - because its hot as balls with lots of humidity and carrying around a 30-pound setup all day is an exercise in torture. I like the look you can get from one too, more natural handheld with smaller cameras instead of that floaty gimbal look (I also shoot a lot with a gimbal, not knocking it at all). Its another tool in the toolbox. I have not shot any series/film stuff, strictly commercials and promo videos for the web/social. As to the new cinema camera, anyone think Canon is going to go IBIS or RF mount? Chris1 point -

If you haven't already, I'd offer a nudge towards investing some of that research time into NDI. Although its core use is to simplify video connections into a hardware or software switcher via a LAN (there are hardware adapters and apps to bring in regular cameras, PTZ cameras, phones and computers) with low latency, it also means that the sources and the switcher can be in entirely different locations using an NDI cloud service. As PTZ is part of the protocol this means you can do full remote production without requiring operators at the event. A lot of information is generally skewed towards Newtek switchers (as they invented the protocol) but there are much more affordable software options such as vMix that integrate it. https://www.ndi.cloud/secure.html https://www.vmix.com/ndi/1 point

I'm still waiting for you to answer my question, which I've asked twice, about what cameras and types of sets you're witnessing in New York. All you've done is post a whole lot of images you found on the web of people not in New York not using easy rigs. It's not exactly hard for me to do the same and post pictures of people who are using them. As I already said, my observations are from a 1AC perspective shooting commercials and some drama in Australia. For more context, these are not Hollywood shoots. These are ads, content, short films and sometimes a series. These are sets where the DP and the operator are the same person. They're usually 'modern' sets in the sense that most of the crew are under 40 and have only ever worked with digital. They're also sets where every minute counts (usually as a result of ever decreasing budgets) and so the director often opts for a handheld aesthetic because it is currently popular and allows more shots per day with fewer crew. And in those situations, Easyrig is the tool of choice most of the time. Yep, that's pretty much my experience. Careful what you say though, you might get accused of spreading horseshit and misinformation by someone who refuses to back up their own comments!1 point -

I can't help noticing people talking about the financial impact from all of this. Yes, it sucks, but there are financial lessons to be learnt about how to run your business. 1) Credit for new gear shouldn't be the norm. 2) A healthy 3-6 months of expenses would certainly help you weather the storm. 3) If you take on employees, you've also got to think about them. 4) Diversify. Arguably not helpful in a pandemic, but good advice when business turns south. Any other ideas? Remember the world continues to turn with or without money.1 point -
