  1. Pick two or three of those focal lengths and buy quality lenses instead of trying to buy 9 cheap and poor quality ones. Then go film something. Even better yet, buy one really nice lens, then go film things and never look back and never take it off your camera.

  2. The new Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro has this feature builtin You can stream live your production, but also record to USB a copy of the production. Could be handy to stream one to Facebook immediately, and then upload straight after a better copy to YouTube

  3. I remember him from Reduser back in the day. He didn't so much drink the RED Koolaid as got a franchise for his own bottling plant. I'm presuming he's going to shoot his latest film at his "Tree Of Life" campus...

  4. I am sure as technology advances it will all come together ...just might take a while. I have one of those old Sigma auto focus adapters for MD/MC lenses on A mount cameras. I tried putting it on a LA-EA4 and mountng it on my A7s but alas (aside from the large lumps on the adapters), I could not get it to work. If I ever get back to it, I would not mind finding a cheap A mount camera to try it on but I think it might only work on a couple of very early A mount DSLRs and my only remaining MD mount lens is a 50 f2 so probably not worth trying now (I just like playing around with gadgets),

  5. That's it. Start with one standard lens. 35mm for an APSC sensor or 50mm for a Full frame sensor.

  6. Yeah those bad boys eat through batteries, also heavy AF. Tempting though. I am considering the Arri Amira though. Saw one for 10k recently. Its a bit lighter, 4k (sorta), internal ND's and um thats it.

  8. They state that is PDAF only but it does actually work on CDAF but work is very relative term as its slow and doesn't alway lock. So I'd call it shit and miss rather than hit and miss ! Fotodiox did their own "version" of it which was so, erm, similar to the TechArt one that you could use the same firmware on it..... So with the release of this new L mount adapter its clear they've got the camera end of the puzzle as well so it may well be that they can produce an L mount version. Incidentally, I now have a suspicion about how they might have (sneakily) achieved this feat of getting around Leica's outright rejection of the MC21 and it has tempered my optimism of Sigma releasing a firmware update to make my MC21 do similarly.

  9. I would wager that the original Mini will hold on to its value slightly longer due to its form factor. I think the reason that people are offloading Alexa Classics for cheap is because of the size/weight and the fact they don't fit into the new paradigm of flexible rigging, gimbal use etc. Whereas with the Mini, the image will be good enough and the camera small enough. So I'd say 5+ years. The market would first have to saturate with the new S35 Mini first and that might take some time especially with the global slowdown we're heading towards.

  10. Nikon Series E lenses are great. Lightweight, compact, but they feel quite robust (it's not like all those cheapo Yongnuo lenses nowadays). Superb optics, nice handling. https://matthewdurrphotography.com/2012/07/20/nikons-series-e-primes-compared/ Right now I own 100/2.8 and I wish I could find some more use for it.

  11. I would think any camera lens is not going to do well after falling from a height onto the ground, not just edmika's Is the edmika a mount or rehoused lens ? cant say i know much about them Not sure i'd give up on the fd glass so soon, Maybe search around for another edmika, but that may take awhile to find. Or maybe go to another 2nd hand camera body that easily adapts to fd glass. There's always the chance that another edmika mount may be tighter or looser. Depending on how keen you are maybe get a new part machined depending on whats broken but machining is generally not cheap

  12. I like my Vivitar 28-90mm as a dirt cheap mid zoom lens Technically it isn't constant F Stop, as it is 2.8 to 3.5 But just set it to 3.5 and then it is a constant F stop zoom ;-)

  13. I'd think Canon would want it out as soon as possible. RF glass sales are dependent upon of sales of R series cameras and with couple RF models in the pipeline, I'd think summer release as long as COVID-19 allows it. Also Canon Rumors is saying Canon supposedly has plans for an RF mount cinema camera .

  14. Most likely end of this year as Canon just released their flagship dslr 1DX Mark iii and they about to introduce C300mii i think.

  15. The TechArt PRO E mount AF adapter will give you the same thing without optics and although its meant for smaller lenses, with a larger lens, like your Sigma, which has a tripod collar it still works very well. Here it is with a bit of an extreme example ! If TechArt could make this in L mount (2mm less to play with) then they would get a lot of sales off Leica owners wanting AF of their M mount lenses.

  16. That's happened. But it is rare. If you had to buy an Alexa Classic today you'd be paying closer to $10K But I expect by the end of the year $5K USD Arri Alexa Classics would be When will a Mini cost sub $10K? Look at how long it took for an Alexa Classic to drop to that price! And I think the Arri Mini with its industry standard S35 sensor and (upscaled) 4K will stay at least semi relevant for a fair few more years. People are not going to just suddenly start hating and ditching the Mini within the next two or three years. Nope, won't happen! Which is what you basically need for a Mini to drop well below $10K. Thus I voted for 5+ years (although I wouldn't be surprised if before then a few rare bargains pop up slightly under $10K, but they'd be the exception and very rare) Didn't the Classic start at a bit higher price than the Mini? I think also the desire to use cameras that can be more compact, is a factor which lead to the Classic dropping in price, while the Mini is very popular. Personally I'm curious as well about what will happen to AMIRA prices, they're already really close to dropping into sub $10K prices, only a few thousand off!

  17. @Mark Romero 2 Can't blame them. They do have excellent nutritional and medicinal qualities. Or wait... instead of toiletpapering homes, we're resorting to nettling homes? I bet that tickles someone's fancy. Scientist did btw have a breakthrough. I know GMO is being frowned upon, but early trials look promising:

  18. I'm a big advocate of faking it. Get a spare samyang set and install fakes on all the lenses. Done, focus super quick, big aperture, sharp images. Works fine with gimbals. Boom. Another option is to get the Sirui 50/1.8 and be creative about simulating other focal lengths with it. I have a video about the subject coming up in a few weeks.

  20. Just seeing this now; my work happened to have both a 16gb SxS and an SD SxS adapter for use in the EX1. So a year back, I did test them out, and found it did not work. I had assumed my Sandisk Extremes would be better than the SxS, but the Arri is very picky; everything is very locked down. For example, I wanted to look into Arriraw and thought maybe a Shogun might do. But with the Classic, only the Odyssey 7Q with raw license would do (because of the proprietary T-Link standard)

  21. Franz Kraus addressed at Conference of the International Association of Film and Television Schools (CILECT) in Munich on Nov 27th, that a s16 Amira prototype has been tested. They are apparently in progress to a feasibility study with an aim to supply film schools/educational market, as many schools still having lenses left over from the SR/ST days. Simplified s16 Amira (true S16 Sensor not a crop) sounds very much in the feasibility stage for now, but could end up being an interesting little camera if produced and made available outside the educational market. http://if.com.au/2015/11/26/article/Arri-reveals-prototype-educational-camera/IQUTSYTINV.html

  22. This isn't Coronavirus related, but happened just before in the months previous, but it does make the situation for even more grim for DIY indie filmmakers: Tugg / Distribber / GoDigital all have shut down. https://variety.com/2020/film/news/do-it-yourself-releasing-platform-tugg-1203503740/
