    Sirui anamorphic

Here are a couple of grabs from me in the house. The grab in the dark is from a scene out of the documentary Marcy Made, which is on Vimeo On Demand. I used a JVC GYLS300 and the Sirui 50mm.

  7. Now the reasons for the original EOS R's weird ergonomics become clear. They wanted to save the best for the expensive model. Proper click wheel, joystick instead of THAT bar, and deeper 5D-style grip. The screen seems larger except it doesn't. Why such a thick bezel? I am positively surprised about the size BTW... Barely any larger than the EOS RP and much smaller than the Panasonic S1.

  9. So does that work out to about 43-44mm on full frame? Not bad! 35mm projector lenses generally let you go a wider than 16mm lenses. I've read that big 35mm scopes (Bausch & Lomb, e.g) can go as wide as a 35mm taking lens w/o vignetting (I haven't tested this myself). In this Vimeo below someone followed the 'cooking anamorphic' tutorial (a video which I can no longer find... seems to have disappeared from Vimeo) to achieve a 24mm taking lens on an m43 sensor. Granted there's a LOT of barrel distortion (see the pillars at the 0:45 mark) and edge aberration. My uneducated, wild-ass guess is that unaltered, the 335b might allow for 28-30mm with little or no vignetting, as the the glass is almost 20% bigger in diameter. Using the cooking anamorphic technique of shortening the distance between the front & rear elements would definitely allow for 24mm, in theory with less barrel distortion than the B&L. Of course this would mean it would no longer be 2x anamorphic. But if I could achieve 1.8x it's still enough to produce pronounced oval bokeh. Shooting with M43 in 4:3 at 2x produces a 2.66:1 aspect ratio. If my math is right, shooting with m43 in 4:3 mode at 1.8x would produce an aspect ratio of 2.40:1 Again, this is all compeletely hypothetical, based on my incredibly limited (and probably flawed) understanding of lens optics 🙂

    Cool ads...

I really like this ad: I'm so in love with the location, the music, the model... Old school technique: no gimbal, no drone, no digital cinema camera. Just a steady, an helicopter, an Arri and Emily Didonato.

    Canon EOS R6

Not good. So similar to the A7III. But slightly better than the EOS R and 1DX III’s awful 30ms. I think 20ms is the upper limit at which one wouldn’t notice it too much. The pocket 6K was generally fine. 16ms seems like the standard number at which rolling shutter is fairly controlled. But most of those cameras at that number are not full frame and obviously not 8K. I hope the R6 does better.

  12. I'd say yes - go for it, if you can. You won't be disappointed with his services. If you manage to pull it off, you'll be the first one to do it. ( : Nonetheless, I wish you luck! So far, the widest setup I've heard of was: Sony A7III + Helios 58mm F2 + Kowa 16-H + Century .75x WA converter that acted as both single focus and wide-angle converter (the huge one with the 3 elements, rehoused in a Pooli Century .75x helicoid).

If the 4K120p is 3/4 of what the C300M3 does then it will be good enough.

  14. Isn’t looking very compelling anymore, if it was at all. Wonder what Panasonic will do? They are being pushed right out of the market because Canon just neutralized their strength (specs).

  15. Maybe a good reason for Canon not to cripple their products to “save” the higher end. I say give the people what they want and that is a Canon camera with no-crop 4K60p+ with DPAF and 10-but clog. The sports photographer will buy the 1DXM3, the wedding and event and landscape people will buy the R5, the vast majority of YouTube crowd will buy the R6, and the serious video production rental companies will buy the C300s and C500s and maybe R5s. It’s pretty simple.

    "Non-cropped internal recording 4K video capture – up to 119.88fps in 4:2:2 10-bit in Canon Log (H.265) or 4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265)" So technically not quite 120fps? 😉

    Canon EOS R6

Maybe, but what kind of rolling shutter will we be seeing in 4K 24/25p? That’s more important to most of us, I believe. I was really disappointed with the 1dx III in 4K and 5,5k at 24p. It’s worse than the Sony A*000. And I’m m certain the R6 with the 20mpx sensor won’t Be any better than the 1dxIII in that regard.

  18. Holy... Cant believe it worked. Camera: Canon eos-m Lens: ef-m 22mm f/2 Filter: Ulanzi 1.33x anamorphic Settings: 1:1 Full sensor readout at 1736x1158, mcm rewire 1080p, upscaled First shot was stretched using 1.33x, second shot was stretched using 1.5x Upscaled final footage to 4k Still playing around with recording and export settings and this is new to me. The filter is tapped onto my lens so not everything is aligned at the moment. Some issues with focusing to infinity

  19. One of their resellers here in Los Angeles whispered to me that their next release will probably be the Nova (in May) and the 600D is looking more like early fall (maybe late August/September). Dang. Not as excited about another panel light on the market. There seems to be enough of those out there. I wish the 600D was the first on the list. I really think that light will become the industry standard for low to mid-range productions. They’re gonna sell like crazy. Pair two of them together and you almost have an M18, which is crazy.

Hey, no excuses... dig out a halogen work light, put up the xmas lights in the bg, switch to 60/120/240p, get a family member to dance (some only require wine and a little encouragement) and LET US SEE THE FOOTAGE!!!!

  24. It's already been done quite a few times and looks quite good, actually! Don't worry about the distance between your lens and the anamorphic adapter - as long as it's not some crazy 2 /3 cm, it won't really matter. Step up rings are your friends! Here are some videos:

  25. there was another similar topic a little while ago. Someone was looking at using the camera phone anamorphics in front of their lens no idea how it went. i have the letus anamorphic for gopro. It screws to the gopro 4 housing. Whoever made the post thought the letus had the widest opening amongst the camera phone anamorphics if i remember correctly. If i can find my digital calipers i will measure it up i might even find the tv remote if i'm really lucky 🙄. At the moment if i run a tape across the top i measure a 22mm opening. how that would vignette i am not really sure. for posterity, i could cobble something together but that wont happen today.
