It's time to take a stand. DPReview for the umpteenth time refuse to lift the blanket ban on EOSHD URLs on the forum, so I am going to do the same. No DPReview links are welcome on this forum and they'll be deactivated automatically. Of course you are still free to discuss their articles, but I don't see why I should drive their traffic while they do their best to shut me out and censor their own forum users. To be honest it'll be no great loss if you didn't discuss their articles, in my opinion. Now the same goes with Cinema5D because I disagree fundamentally with the ethics of those who run the site. They have been absolute horrors towards EOSHD and never supported my presence as a rival from day one. They deleted their user's DSLR community, tossed an entire forum in the trash. Remember this and please don't draw attention to their articles which are in my opinion, blatantly misleading biased reviews, like with the 1D X Mark III rolling shutter situation and the hatchet job on the GH5 when that came out. You can get your info directly from me here instead so you don't need them anyway. Nofilmschool are banned for same reasons due to my view of their editorial and business ethics. With Nofilmschool this is also a zero loss. I don't think there's been a mention of them for years. Who reads that exercise in SEO any more? Please appreciate, that my appeal to all of you in this forum is....Choose your sources with thought and care!! This forum should be good quality info. I don't want it to become an aggregate of misinformation and a place to bookmark YouTube clickbait, page after page. Best of all, let's create our own content. We all have a camera. Let's test it, shoot with it, compare it. And lenses too, and software, and computers! There are so many good people out there doing superb cinematic work and camera reviews. Let's draw attention to them instead.3 points -
Google's YouTube monopoly
majoraxis and 2 others reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
I will have to push on with my YouTube channel double-quick pace. Really enjoyed doing the first video. However, I fear the written word is dead and here's why. Look how much space YouTube takes up on a typical Google search and how far it pushes the first result down the page for EOSHD. The first result for "Iscorama GH5" is this forum. But it's barely noticeable with all the YouTube videos. YouTube is a Google service and this is an abuse of a monopoly plain and simple and they should be taken to court.3 points -
Google's YouTube monopoly
Marcio Kabke Pinheiro and 2 others reacted to heart0less for a topic
And here I am, in my early twenties - so I'm technically a millennial / Generation Y - with my my strong preference towards written word. I deeply hate the fact that people nowadays tend to turn their blogs into vlogs, etc. For me, having to go to YouTube for a piece of information that could be put clearly in two or three sentences is one of the plagues of 21st century. I understand that our hobby - cameras and stuff related to them - is a visual hobby and words can't always be used to show what we mean or to share what we managed to create using our babies. Nonetheless, I think that over 30% of YouTube content could easily be transcribed and deprived of audio-visual stimuli and we, as viewers, would only gain from it. It's just terribly tiring, how much shit, unneeded clutter there is to almost everything. You could say that you save your time, because there are no ads per se, but the amount of in-video marketing and advertising, etc. is terrifying. But still, not every channel is like this and, surely, there are some that are really worth being subscribed to. The amount of knowledge that can be found on YT (if you know what you're looking for) is invaluable and often can't be put into words that easily. It's a tough nut to crack.3 points -

On tracking/panning fast object at 1/50 24fps you will not see rolling shutter because the motion blur will hide the RS issue. I track mtb at (200-400 +1.4) 560mm and I have zero problem with RS. Is really unstable platform or back and forth movements that shows up. I have more problem on a horse show jumping parkour as you move back and forth and the obstacles as they are vertical they tend to be bended.... Btw I did cover the 24h of Nürburgring for teams multiple years so I'm familiar with motorsport.3 points

Canon 1D X Mark III Review // Filmmaking, video and cinema camera. Get the Fuji X-T4 instead?
Yurolov and one other reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
So the X-T4 has DIS as well. DIS has been around since the NX1 in quite an effective form, but it actually tends to impact on the image more than IBIS in terms of the artificial look and warping. The only thing that needs updating with IBIS on the X-T4 is the addition of some kind of artificial intelligence that recognises human camera work and tells the system not to fight against it. As it stands, the IBIS will occasionally prevent smooth intentional pans and tilts. So in that case, you can turn it off and use a tripod or an OIS lens. A lot of people's results are impacted from having IS Mode Boost enabled as well, and expecting a virtual gimbal. Actually, the boost mode is meant for completely locked down shots, not movement. The autofocus is very reliable indeed in my experience so far. A big step forward from the X-T3. I noticed plenty of occasions testing it vs the 1D X Mark III where it actually outperformed it. The 1D X Mark III would actually miss. The real choice when the R5 comes out will be the R5 or A7S III? I think Sony is waiting to top it in a big way. By then there may also be a GH6 and X-H2. So let's not put all our camera potatoes in one Canon shaped basket.2 points -
I am having problems with the jog wheel on my 1D X Mark III popping every full 360 degree rotation, so there is a mechanical problem there and my body will be returned for a refund and so this is only a short review. This review also marks a milestone for EOSHD! After 10 years of blog posts, I am going to be doing YouTube now as well! Looking forward to doing MANY a video and growing the channel in a big way. If you'd like to be interviewed, or featured on the channel, do let me know. So the 1D X Mark III then... https://www.eoshd.com/review/canon-1d-x-mark-iii-review-filmmaking-video-and-cinema-camera-get-the-fuji-x-t4-instead/1 point

The low light and DR looks good to me. The last global shutter cinema camera I used was Digital Bolex and BM Production Camera 4K. Both not exactly known for their low light performance past ISO 200 The Komodo and Z-CAM both look like interesting cameras for the price to me. Z-CAM prices especially would have been unthinkable only 2 years ago.1 point -
Problem is that on youtube in theory is easy to monetize the content so everybody has or is switching from text/blog to yt...... where the first to put out the content normally wins..... so the name of the game is get hw from manufacturer early than the release, do a quick review mentioning is the greatest thing on earth (so you get device again) and post it 1ms after ND is lifted. Me personally I hate video review especially the ones reading the spec sheet and some even without having the hw yet. For the same item there are gazillions of review so is super hard to find a quality one. And for camera judging quality on a yt video is just impossible. On the other side of the spectrum some athlete for example, in way less known sports, they can make good money by creating compelling content based on great athletic performances. Same for some musician and so on.... there is really some great made compelling content but in a jungle of total c...p. Bandwidth and storage are soo expensive that nobody can really compete with these giants and once the service is free or you get even some money to post why using something else..... I wish there would be at least 1 competitor in this area......1 point

Yes and No. Currently I shoot Zcam, majority fast action sports, I've never once had an issue with rolling shutter artefacts in my shots. It's a nice feature but with fast rolling shuuter speed not an important aspect at all for me. I'd rather better DR than global shutter.1 point

1D X III vs EOS R5 and R6
Vintage Jimothy reacted to Django for a topic
Personally, my interest for 1DX3 completely died down after R5 was rumoured shortly after. As for GFX100 vs 1DX3 vs XT4.. well 3 different sensor size cameras at 3 completely different budgets. Again personally, above the $6K line I'd rather be looking at dedicated cine cams.. especially if RS, NDs, XLR etc are of importance to you. XT4 definitely seems like best bang for buck at the moment, kinda like the new GH5. But if you're into FF (even if just for stills) you still may wanna invest in another hybrid system.1 point -

On 6/6/2020 at 12:00 AM, heart0less said: Dear lens enthusiasts, I plan on doing a showoff of my adapted projection lenses with a little comparison to 'normal' consumer glass. Initial plan was to put the camera on a tripod, put a tiny something around 70 cm in front of it, then have a human subject (most likely me) sit around ~ 2m in front of the camera and, finally, some deep background with just a bit bokeh in it. Rack focus between those three. Time and place of shoot: golden hour, somewhere outside, non-controlled environment. No color charts (I don't have any), no corner-to-corner sharpness tests. Maybe I'll manage to put an anamorphic adapter in there, too. A visualization of what I have in mind (apart from the color chart): Examples taken from this test. i'm thinking out aloud, if a few people could do something similar with their lenses, that would be quite a treasure trove of information.1 point -

Yeah, those Atlas lenses look very solid. One of my favorite anamorphics, to be honest. It's a great idea, but I'm afraid Christmas lights would be way too dim outside during a sunny day. Instead, I could try attaching some tiny marbles of aluminum foil to a string and use this as a 'bokeh prop'. I'll try my best to convince someone to act as a model. It'd save me tons of unneeded frustrations. kye, that's actually a brilliant thing to do! Not only would it liven up the background a little, but also add some color patches. Thanks!1 point -
Sigma Fp review and interview / Cinema DNG RAW
Simon Young reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
The Sigma Fp videos above are not really examples of it, don't really show it. You can only see if it you try and make a flat profile, dial standard down -5 and raise the bottom of the custom curve up to reveal more shadow detail. Then shoot a scene inside with a lot of dark objects like camera bodies in it and you can see it. When you push the shadows down only slightly, adding more contrast, it disappears. Probably why it is more noticeable in N-LOG than with a flat profile on Z6.1 point -

Reality check on hybrid FF camera RS that can do at least 10bit: 1Dx III 5.5k and 4k 50-60fps, 16ms SH1 4k, 24.2ms GFX100, 28ms SH1 6k, 29.7ms 1Dx III 5.5k and 4k , 32ms I'm I missing other 10bit hybrid cameras? Bottom-line currently on FF you get a bad rolling shutter with any 10bit camera..... The only frustration is why if you put in MF the sensor cannot switch to 16ms as in 60fps......1 point

If someone wanted something smaller than an Alexa, cheap enough to crash and better image quality than a gopro then they could have just bought a BMPCC or BMMCC. Man, yeah. Lots of complex emotion on this for me over the last week. I’m a white Minnesotan, working 6 days a week even during COVID-19... I thought about photographing/video documenting, and I agree it is incredibly important work and that things must be seen. But my heart is broken. Just straight ripped apart. I just got home from two days In Minneapolis/St. Paul, and I’m glad I didn’t bring a camera, and I left my phone in my bag. There’s a LOT of I guess I’d call it “social justice tourism” going on, and that just sits uneasy with me. Like, people were posing with their friends and signs for selfies, and then leaving the sit-in at the capitol before it was done... even more selfies with the George Floyd mural at Cup Foods. Don’t get me wrong, it is good that those people are at least engaging on some level, but social media is already drowning in this stuff at the moment, that isn’t necessarily an efficient vehicle for change. I don’t need pictures to communicate what I’ve seen with my own eyes. I saw the entire capitol lawn filled to bursting with beautiful peaceful people all afternoon, championing full institutional overhaul of the oppressive system... which by the way was organized and led by FREAKING HIGHSCHOOL STUDENTS, who were all more articulate than yours truly. I worked alongside hundreds of my fellow Minnesotans ALL DAY yesterday as we packed food and household supplies for our neighbors in need. We were tired. We were drenched in sweat. It was beautiful. Emotions, events, words and actions are in the highest contrast in this moment. Sometimes you’ve gotta leave the camera behind and commit your full self to being present. And I must say this: while the news has been reporting both the peaceful protests and the unrest, the time devoted to each is woefully disproportionate to the time Minnesotans have been devoting to each. Yes there has been some destruction and some violence. But there is an immeasurably larger effort of peaceful demand for justice. Heres the only picture from today, snapped by a construction worker on an adjacent building and texted to one of the church food drive organizers. All of those bags of groceries were gone within half an hour. The need is real, but Minnesotans are rising to the occasion, government or no government.1 point
