    Doesn't always look good. I spent £6000 on a 1DX3 remember and got 32ms rolling shutter, worse than the 8 years old 1D C (24ms) in 4K 24p

People in the Red forum are raving about the colour science and dynamic range, are they seeing something i'm not?

I thought the comparing to Sony bodies was an exaggeration, but WOW does that look like something shot on a Sony A7III that wasn't graded.

  6. Z-CAM also evolved from action cameras. The company was founded on Go Pro type cameras. How many here actually own a Komodo? I say give it a chance before talking it down.

  7. On tracking/panning fast object at 1/50 24fps you will not see rolling shutter because the motion blur will hide the RS issue. I track mtb at (200-400 +1.4) 560mm and I have zero problem with RS. Is really unstable platform or back and forth movements that shows up. I have more problem on a horse show jumping parkour as you move back and forth and the obstacles as they are vertical they tend to be bended.... Btw I did cover the 24h of Nürburgring for teams multiple years so I'm familiar with motorsport.

  8. It's time to take a stand. DPReview for the umpteenth time refuse to lift the blanket ban on EOSHD URLs on the forum, so I am going to do the same. No DPReview links are welcome on this forum and they'll be deactivated automatically. Of course you are still free to discuss their articles, but I don't see why I should drive their traffic while they do their best to shut me out and censor their own forum users. To be honest it'll be no great loss if you didn't discuss their articles, in my opinion. Now the same goes with Cinema5D because I disagree fundamentally with the ethics of those who run the site. They have been absolute horrors towards EOSHD and never supported my presence as a rival from day one. They deleted their user's DSLR community, tossed an entire forum in the trash. Remember this and please don't draw attention to their articles which are in my opinion, blatantly misleading biased reviews, like with the 1D X Mark III rolling shutter situation and the hatchet job on the GH5 when that came out. You can get your info directly from me here instead so you don't need them anyway. Nofilmschool are banned for same reasons due to my view of their editorial and business ethics. With Nofilmschool this is also a zero loss. I don't think there's been a mention of them for years. Who reads that exercise in SEO any more? Please appreciate, that my appeal to all of you in this forum is....Choose your sources with thought and care!! This forum should be good quality info. I don't want it to become an aggregate of misinformation and a place to bookmark YouTube clickbait, page after page. Best of all, let's create our own content. We all have a camera. Let's test it, shoot with it, compare it. And lenses too, and software, and computers! There are so many good people out there doing superb cinematic work and camera reviews. Let's draw attention to them instead.

  9. Yes ... gotta say that if it is hot enough to shut down the camera ... I would have gone home well before. Honestly ... new battery ... more efficient sensor and processor ... seems to work ... yes PP will hopefully arrive in the A7SIII(?) Or I will add a cinecam ....

Things tend to look good when you’ve dropped 10s of thousands of dollars on equipment? I think the GH5S is the best MFT camera because I own it 😁🤣

  14. Do you blame them? Best thing to do is not use google services. It hurts their bottom line in more than one way. I’m afraid video is very much part of the future of the Internet even though it is a terribly inefficient way to transmit information. Google already has a monopoly with video on the internet because: 1) It is extremely capital intensive to store, process, and deliver video to millions sometimes billions of watchers. So newcomers to the video delivery service are chocked out fast. 2) They have smartly integrated google search and YouTube search. 3) They dangled the carrot of monetization to content creators initially and then use any opportunity to optimize their revenue, including just optimizing away your entire channel. You have no control or levers to pull to improve your channel except spending cash for ads. Or resorting to shitty clickbait bullshit soul sucking crap. 4) They negotiated with copyright and license holders to create a de-facto shadow copyright system in an attempt to fix the actually broken copyright system (at least in the US). I think for people that care, it is important if you have a YouTube channel to also take the time and energy to turn your videos into blog posts with links to resources and to your videos on YouTube. This has many benefits such as improved content quality over time and extended SEO to and from your video a and website.

  16. I have been using the A9ii for a number of months ... filming a podcast, and services for my local church while in lockdown. Multihour sessions without any heat issues just works ... record to a Video Devices PIX-E5 with a PIX-LR to get around the 4:2:0 internal spec ... but the times I have used the internal 100MB/S codec it has looked good enough. Color is very good, skin tones accurate and DR acceptable. I rarely use AF ... mostly use Zeiss Loxia lenses but for stills outdoors it is perfect and video with the 70-200 GM is very good. Here is a booring look at the garden ... lockdown not rigorous in Texas but too hot to do a lot of outdoor filming after 800AM. Watch in 4K .... It looks like the AF speed is a bit faster here than necessary ... and I will use a slower setting in the future. This camera makes me want Sony to give us the specs for the A7SIII and the FX-6 ... 10bit more robust codec and I would have nothing to complain about ... the new Venice colors work for me.

Those aren’t bad specs if they are official. Mainly, REDCODE RAW, 6K, PDAF, and a R mount if it’s closer to $6K price range.

I don't think it'll be anything magic but if it can offer clean high iso's, global shutter, high dynamic range, high resolution............ what's not to like? Not sure what people are expecting from some random videos of people at a beach.

  20. I know I will get flamed 😂 But to be fair he is pointing out that they will get a camera to test the RS and DR as they do with many cameras. Until it is done and published is just a fate thing but at least it seems there is the intention. It could be that without you this would not have happened so you have a point, although the RS was not measured by you but by slashcam. You also mention that you don't see a RS issue with the GFX 100 and yet it seems to have a RS of 28ms (all to be validate by multiple source ideally)...... somebody could argue the same no? You did not measure RS on the GFX 100, he did not on the 1Dx III. Other have done it, you trust some others trust others etc.. There are not many site left that really test RS and DR and yes we can argue for hours that the tests are not perfect but as they have some consistency is better than nothing. We should glad that there is some kind of "conflict/competition" between you guys as it pushes you to really check all the details..... 😉

    Google's YouTube monopoly

The other thing about the written word is you can’t tell which way round I am wearing my baseball cap or if I am even wearing underpants. I think there’s a place for both but too many people on MeTube spend far too much time talking about their lives when the reality is, we don’t know you and don’t give a shit. But what do I know being of 1970 vintage and moving into the miserable old git category...

  22. Crap specs but interesting they put a 2.7K mode in there. Is this the DJI influence?! There is zero reason to buy a H6D for video now GFX 100 exists. Ditto X1D II, when you can buy a GFX 50R. No point. Hasselblad need to completely rethink their entire product line.

    Google's YouTube monopoly

Problem is that on youtube in theory is easy to monetize the content so everybody has or is switching from text/blog to yt...... where the first to put out the content normally wins..... so the name of the game is get hw from manufacturer early than the release, do a quick review mentioning is the greatest thing on earth (so you get device again) and post it 1ms after ND is lifted. Me personally I hate video review especially the ones reading the spec sheet and some even without having the hw yet. For the same item there are gazillions of review so is super hard to find a quality one. And for camera judging quality on a yt video is just impossible. On the other side of the spectrum some athlete for example, in way less known sports, they can make good money by creating compelling content based on great athletic performances. Same for some musician and so on.... there is really some great made compelling content but in a jungle of total c...p. Bandwidth and storage are soo expensive that nobody can really compete with these giants and once the service is free or you get even some money to post why using something else..... I wish there would be at least 1 competitor in this area......

  24. And here I am, in my early twenties - so I'm technically a millennial / Generation Y - with my my strong preference towards written word. I deeply hate the fact that people nowadays tend to turn their blogs into vlogs, etc. For me, having to go to YouTube for a piece of information that could be put clearly in two or three sentences is one of the plagues of 21st century. I understand that our hobby - cameras and stuff related to them - is a visual hobby and words can't always be used to show what we mean or to share what we managed to create using our babies. Nonetheless, I think that over 30% of YouTube content could easily be transcribed and deprived of audio-visual stimuli and we, as viewers, would only gain from it. It's just terribly tiring, how much shit, unneeded clutter there is to almost everything. You could say that you save your time, because there are no ads per se, but the amount of in-video marketing and advertising, etc. is terrifying. But still, not every channel is like this and, surely, there are some that are really worth being subscribed to. The amount of knowledge that can be found on YT (if you know what you're looking for) is invaluable and often can't be put into words that easily. It's a tough nut to crack.

  26. If someone wanted something smaller than an Alexa, cheap enough to crash and better image quality than a gopro then they could have just bought a BMPCC or BMMCC. Sounds like they set out to build a camera for a specific task without first phoning up the camera store to see if one existed already.

  28. I never thought of CA as "magical," although I could imagine that SPHERICAL aberrations could give a "magical" look. Maybe she misspoke??? Yeah, I am not super familiar with mainland Chinese cinema. But what I do remember from some 80's mainland moviews was that the lighting was a bit harsher. Just looking at the Mulan trailer makes me think the lighting is too soft to replicate the vintage look. But again, I might be ignorant of lots of Chinese movies with soft lighting.

Hahahaha, you really seem to be all over it. XD Though I have to admit, I'm in love with those stills, too. Simply wonderful. A dolly? Come on, man - how will I find one in the middle of nowhere? I'll be lucky enough if my sister decides to help me. And as much as I love and trust her, no 'tracking tripod shots' made with her clumsy hands for me.

  30. I have shot this video using GFX100. Autofocus in video and lack of slowmotion in 4k are drawbacks. but image and handling are better in GFX100 than Xt-3. I wish they really add better Phase-detecting system and add full frame 4k 60fps.

  31. Isn't internal/external recording more an issue with Prores Raw licensing than with the camera's ability to do so or not? Not sure if this has been officially stated anywhere but I highly suspect the reason Panasonic made a partnership with Atomos was because the latter carries the license burden. So I would imaging Fujifilm taking a similar approach or else it might have to be a paid upgrade to offset the cost of licensing. Canon, on the other hand, is able to offer internal raw on the R5 so matter-of-factly because they have their own Cinema Raw codecs.
