I tried to download it. It lets you download 8K of it but then you have to wait an hour. Or you can continue to download 4K at a time every 10 minutes for two hours. If you are downloading to an external drive though you can carry on downloading as much of it as you want.6 points

This seems like a strong release by Panasonic. I am not sure if this has been posted already with the (almost) full specs http://thenewcamera.com/tag/panasonic-s5/ AF is going to be THE issue, price rumored to be 1800$ which is close to 2000€, not that cheap but very capable it seems. It is not just the poor relative of the S series, there are significant characteristics to make it appealing to a lot of customers. I am not sure why Panasonic sticks to this AF technology and even if they change, how much time they will need to catch up.. I still have to see the "new" GH to have a complete knowledge of the market and choose accordingly. I was quite "shocked" when I saw the sales percentages and Panasonic is at just 4.7% with Fuji. I was expecting a bit more from Pana and their more diverse line up.3 points

I bought a Canon EOS R5 - potential overheating solutions
Emanuel and one other reacted to mechanicalEYE for a topic
How can the camera build up heat to throw the overheat warning sitting in the menus at idle but run for extended times externally without getting a warning? Firmware cripple?? How can one shoot in 102 degrees externally for an hour with a camera that is said to overheat without even a overheat warning, but overheat internally indoors in cool air? Firmware cripple?? How can one get exif data that says the camera had a temp of 65 C / 149 degrees in 100 + degrees operate without an overheat warning but another user saw overheat warning at 46 C?? Firmware bugged the F out?? Doesn't really matter if it was intentional or accidental, it doesn't make sense and should be corrected.2 points -

Lighting is pretty much the most important thing for what we do. It’s what makes your images sing. Here’s a bunch of lights I highly recommend: 1. Falcon Eyes F7 Ridiculously awesome light for the price. Everyone should have at least one. Super bright for a small light. Very useful. Essential. Possibly my favourite right now. 2. Falcon Eyes 24TDX II Flex lights are expensive. Not this. Build quality is great. Super useful. Waterproof. Put anywhere! 3. Luxli Taiko In my opinion, better than the Arri Skypanel which is 3-4 times the price. Best colour accuracy I’ve ever seen and very easy to use. Only downside is the power unit. Feels a bit cheap and not long enough. 4. Godox S30 I think this makes the $3k Dedolight equivalent almost obsolete. For 10% of the price? Super optics for the projection attachment. Downsides are the power goes down to 10w from 30w when using batteries. 5. Colorspike The light pattern customisation is immense and looks way more organic than preset effects from other lights. An incredible tool. Only downsides is the carry case is a bit “meh” and diffuser is fiddly. 6. Astera Titan Tubes These are way more expensive than other mentioned lights. They share some ideas with the Colorspike’s but on a much higher level. These things are insane and worth every penny. I don’t own them but what they can do.... wow!! Downsides... 8 tube case is very very heavy. They are expensive. What are your current favourite lights?1 point -

Found somebody who needs a good dose of truth. Let's set the record straight with this Canon rep as customers. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1327837727266187/permalink/3065603700156239/?hc_location=ufi The post permalink is only visible once you join the group. Please be polite. I was a bit edgy and they banned me immediately. The Canon rep who needs convincing is Charles Zablan in reply to the Torsten Christensen comment on the link to the EOSHD blog post. I don't see much humility from him given that I just paid 4380 euros for a duffer. I've put the screen grab below so you can find it in case permalink doesn't work properly.1 point -

I found that you can set the encoding profile to Main10 or Main10 444, which encodes 10 bit in 420 or 444. No 422 afaik. I only tried H.265, and this was on Windows using Resolve studio.1 point -

Whatever works! On last weeks music video - I had practical house lamps and wanted to dim and make them flash. I picked up some very cheap smart LED bulbs, and they did the job! (So cheap that “strobe” was called “fade”). 😂 I once had to resort to using a torchlight light reflected against tin foil / foil wrap. Worked ok! If you like the M9 check out the Falcon Eyes F7! That light is insane for the money.1 point -
Well, supposely the specs are real, the S5 is better regarding codecs and VLog profile out of the box. Firmware update for S1 or information about it would be very appreciated. Would be a bummer to buy the VLog update right before a free one. Would be wasted 200 squids! My work with the S1 is 90% video. So S5 looks more promising to me at the moment than S1, if usuability is similar to the S1 regarding video.1 point

2011 just or near the peak of cameras market. People were buying cheap Rebel cameras with a kit lens, took 980 pictures on Auto and then they put their dSLRs on their closets, for ever. Just compare data from now and then and you will see the trend. How many kids you know buying an R5 with the Holy Trinity at RF these days? 5?! Kids now are just fine with an Osmo or a 360 or just their phone. We are talking Canon has sold more than 140.000.000 and I believe that doesn't include other manufacturers. How many years will take RF to reach even half of it? It may never will..1 point

Sorry about that. The description of it was a bit misleading what with metioning Konica AR just the five times and all that! "Fotasy Konica AR Lens to Leica L Adapter, Konica AR Leica T Adapter, Konica AR Leica SL Adapter, Konica AR Panasonic S, Konica AR Sigma L, fit Leica SL TL2 TL T & Panasonic Lumix S1 S1H S1R Sigma fp" There are plenty of AR to M adapters around so combined with an M to L adapter that would do the trick. The M to L adapter very rarely leaves my Leica SL or T or Sigma fp bodies as I'm either using M lenses on them or using it as an intermediary to C/Y or R so it is very useful, particularly as prior to Panasonic and Sigma making L mount bodies there wasn't such a comprehensive range of adapters and those that were available tended to be expensive. So now that there is a much bigger market has meant manufacturers have started to make low cost direct to L mount adapters I will probably pick a few more up. But for holdouts like the AR mount then the M to L as an intermediary is still an option.1 point

A guy shot 8K video in Paris and was surprised it overheated on a day shoot as he was filming only short clips. He had to leave it overnight to cool down. It wasn't a review, just a report on real world use. For short, personal work and work where line skipped 4K is fine, the R5 will be okay. I wouldn't pay £4k for a smoking gun for a camera and rely on it for Professional work. Regardless of any reports from those who have managed to grab some footage from it. Something which I never doubted. Even Canon wouldn't dare release a camera you couldnt film anything at all.1 point

Panasonic S5 Entry Level Full Frame seems to be real...
Geoff CB reacted to herein2020 for a topic
I have a GH5 and have always manually focused but there is one simple scenario where I would definitely use AF...on a gimbal. I don't trust AF in 95% of the situations I encounter yet I will not replace my GH5 with a camera that does not have a better AF system. I am typically a one man band run and gun shooter shooting everything from music videos to interviews, the main time I would like AF is in certain situations when doing gimbal work. My GH5 is good enough for most of the situations that I encounter that I don't see a reason to replace it if I cannot use the replacement for both photography as well as video and if the AF is no better than what is in the GH5. If I had a focus puller or had any way to manually pull focus while the camera is on a gimbal it would not be that important to me. It is pretty funny though, just the other day I was shooting a music video and I had just filled the room with smoke and set the lighting and was shooting on the C200; I decided for one of the takes to use AF.....well guess what, the C200 could not focus at all on any of the talent due to the smoke, so back to MF I went. But back to the topic of the S5...it is DOA for me, if this camera is why there is no GH6 then I will be sorely disappointed. I have all the MFT glass I want and my GH5 already has no recording time limits, never overheats, does dual card slot recording, etc. I have a feeling the S5 will have a recording time limit like the S1, may not work with the XLR audio module, and will require me to invest in L mount lenses. It also does not do 4K120FPS, and I still would prefer my Canon 5DIV for photography.1 point -
Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place
Daai reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
R6 is only 20 megapixel, no excuses really. What is it doing differently to a 20 megapixel GH5 in 10bit 4K? to create so much extra "heat"? And that camera is 3 years older. Full frame sensor doesn't create a lot of extra heat. What's it doing differently to an S1?! Another example of the new-for-2020 style cripple hammer.1 point -

My favourite is the Aputure 120D II and a few modifiers. Although I mainly do event works so don’t always have the luxury of setting up lights, I use this light whenever I can. It is light and portable, but gives more than enough light unless you need to film in a very big room or have to simulate or fight against the sun. But nowadays there are many competitively priced lights as well. So my favourite may change.1 point -

I like the GVM lights for video, and Godox everything for photography. All of my studio strobes and speedlights are Godox. For video I use the GVM LED panels and my new favorite lights are the GVM 150W RGB lights. No more gels and they are reasonably bright when set to white. I also have a whole kit of Yongnuo YN360s that I like to stick in odd places to add fill to a scene. They are also RGB and work great in music videos. I use the GVM LED panels for interview type setups and the GVM 150W RGB lights for everything from music videos to commercial work. They are reasonably priced especially since you don't have to buy gels and the quality is about right for what you pay for.1 point -
I'm not sure about the C500 II, but it sure would put a damper on these plans: https://www.canonrumors.com/canon-to-introduce-two-8k-cinema-eos-cameras-in-2021-cr2/ One of these Cinema EOS cameras will no doubt be on the level of the C700, as they speculate, but the other one will likely be a cheaper and more compact variant that could be severely undermined by a fully-functioning 8K RAW camera for $4K.1 point

Yea mavo lf certainly looks like it has a much better skintones and iq out of the box. More than all the reds... even the monstro. I put in a preorder for the mavo edge, which seems to iron out some things in the mavo lf. Hopefully sensor is still good in low light and dynamic range is still good. and yea thats funny about vincent laforet being treated so poorly. He really help put red on the map. whats next? EOSHD testing finds Canon EOS R5 overheating to be fake

Very interesting stuff! I'm a hobbyist Canon shooter myself, but I'm still on the EOS 6D since until now I couldn't find anything that really pushes me towards a new camera. The R5/R6 might be the one that actually catch me. However, after reading all of this, I get doubtful. Besides that I'm an engineer for embedded software / electronics (in automotive) and I would like to share some of my knowledge here. 1. As horshack already pointed out the temperature written in the EXIF might not be the temperature of the main controller, but the one of another chip that's supposed to be a "good"/"reasonable" representation for the inner camera temperature. 2. From our electronics I know that we usually measure 4-5 temperatures from different chips and the differences are quite astonishing sometimes. While the main chip under "heavy duty" might be at around 90°C within a few minutes, peripheral chips show the temperature increase with a (for me) surprisingly high delay of a few minutes. This is partly due to the fact that thermal operations take quite some time, especially if the heat distribution medium is air. This depends on the placing of the chips of course. 3. The issue might not be overheating of the main controller, but of another chip, e.g. of the sensor read out circuit 4. There has been some discussion about maximum temperatures of electronic chips. It is correct that 90°C is still in the comfort zone of most electronic chips. However, you have to take into account that there is a maximum allowed temperature for surfaces is 65°C (Metal) and 85°C (Plastic) due to safety reasons (Source, as an alternative google "safety standard maximum heat surface", Alternative Source). The second source even limits to 55°C for prolonged usage and 60°C for "Short periods only". I saw some videos in which they managed to shoot 4k HQ continuously for hours, by removing the cards from the camera. If I combine the "safety" stuff with this I get to the conclusion that the issue might be the memory card getting too hot in terms of safety regulations. Here's my scenario: I record for let's say 45 minutes, before my CFexpress card is full. I want to switch cards quickly -> I directly open the card slot and pull out a card that has a temperature of ~80-90°C. This is not acceptable by means of safety. The only thing that bothers me then is that the temperature should go down much much faster than what's seen here. Especially, if you look at the "tests" that Jordan from dpreview did, in which he removed cards and battery completely. After that the temperature should go down much faster. Something I can imagine here is that they cannot directly measure the temperature of the memory cards. Due to this they use a formula for calculating cool down times. This formula does not take opening the card slot or changing the card into account. I hope Canon will release detailed information about this. Because even though I'm a stills shooter only, I don't want to be tricked. And I must admit I'm on the edge to switching to Sony, anyway.1 point

in post I still want 422, I agree the image from canon is great, but you have to expose properly and make no mistakes, if you have a better codec you will be able to recover from some mistakes during the shooting process, I have been working with Canon C100 for a few years and the ninja star is already part of the hardware.1 point

in 2020 I want 10bit codec. I am not going to have this discussion again, but if you do not need "broadcast ready codecs", then everything if fine, skip this comment. I am not going to spend 8000 euros, or more for another personal camera - because that is how 6500$ translates to Europe - and then I have to rent for broadcasted, or better projects, thank you very much, I stay with GH5 and Pocket cameras for lesser projects and rent when I want to go higher. If you are a youtuber, then even your 4 years old phone has enough specs and there are multiple solutions under 500$ to better those specs. I rarely need raw, or any raw, but 8bit was alright 10 years ago.. I am still waiting for a C100mkII replacement, this is one of the most populat Canon cameras ever, where is the next one? R200 certainly is not. Sony and Panasonic offer XLR thingies that give their video centric mirrorless exactly the same sound options as a video camera (Sony records 4ch and can take the Sony wireless natively) and the only difference is the internal ND, if you get IBIS, better or similar sensor, much better codecs, smaller price tag and you miss only the internal ND, then most people will go with the better everything and they will stick one of the many vND we all have. As simple as that, there is a limit when a video camera is better than a mirrorless and in Europe you will have probably to go above 8000euros for a Canon one.1 point

Speaking of Voigtlander, I'm (finally) editing the trip we took to India in late 2018 and pulled out a few hero shots and did a basic grade to get a feel for the project and to get some inspiration. That was the first trip I took with the GH5 and Voigtlander 17.5mm and one of the concerns that I had was low light performance as the GH5 isn't known for it, but it wasn't until I got back to the hotel and looked at this footage that I realised how good the combination really is. Here's a sample grab of the tour guide when we went to Varanasi to watch the nightly religious celebrations and see the cremations on the shore. No idea if it was wide-open or not, but this is a basic grade, some NR, and some film grain over the top, no sharpening applied, and it's even got a small negative amount of mid-tone detail. GH5 was in 150Mbps 4K IPB and HLG. I can't recommend these lenses enough.1 point -
