Kaboom, it's arrived! Sorry, no YouTube unboxing video or reading of spec list, just an initial impression whilst the battery is charging. I've come from 8-9 years of Fuji as my main cameras with some dabbling in 1" Sony and M4/3 Panasonic but have otherwise never owned a full frame mirrorless before. I had Nikon DSLR prior to Fuji for stills with a D7000 for filming...but things have moved on since 2010! First of all, it feels superb in the hand. In terms of size for handling and my use, just about perfect. Weight, perfect and I currently have the 20-60mm 'kit' lens attached I bought it with which will become my personal travel lens and my stills work wide angle. Build quality. Well all my old gear has now been sold but I'd say it's all a step up from Fuji and I had no complaints about that, but the build and finish are superb and the way the dials click and operate etc. Next up, some stills and video tests to get a feel for how it all works etc and that all important AF test..., but so far, it's all looking good!8 points

I used to have a 55mm Canon FD f1.2 on a speed booster for my M43 cams... I mean, that's kinda in the ball park. On M43 that would render DOF shallowness like a f1.8 on FF. So that narrow focal plane capability was there if I wanted it. (turns out I really didn't that much) Also had the Voight 42.5mm f.095. Which is a 85mm f1.9 FF equivalent on M43. All decent lens stuff and kinda neat to own. And I'll be honest, having the extra bit of "oomph" that FF gives is nice sometimes, not going to deny it. (I mean, I still have a 5D) But, in my world it's not worth the trade off of exceptional IBIS and some really crazy compact gear...and the shooting flexibility that offers. That small gear flexibility is often overlooked by a lot of videographers, I think. I love going on shoots with modest stuff; a single small satchel camera bag and a tiny camera --then knocking out ridiculous handheld shots that look like they rolled off a jib or camera dolly tracks. I'll take that capability as long as it's available. Other people like piling on a bunch of outboard stuff so much that even a modest DSLR ends up looking like some Panavision rig on a major studio movie production set. That's fine if that's what you want, just not my tempo.2 points -
Panasonic S5 Entry Level Full Frame seems to be real...
Lux Shots and one other reacted to Trankilstef for a topic
Same for me it has arrived today. Tomorrow i'll make some tests to see what this little beast can output but so far first impressions are extremely good. Seems as well built as my S1H. Very comfortable in hand and so happy about the weight and size. I'ts going to be my daily camera, as well as my b-cam for shoots. I have a shooting on Wednesday (a small narrative web ad for an app) that I planned to shoot on one camera but I'm tempted to throw the S5 on set to take some additional coverage... Just to see how well it matches with its big brother.2 points -

The megapixel race has come to cinema. $10,000 with an 80 megapixel Super 35mm sensor, the new URSA Mini Pro shoots 12K BRAW. The technology in this camera is practically unheard of.1 point -

I ordered mine today, and they already charged my card, so I expect it to arrive this week. I don't have any video shoots planned, but I do have a wedding photo shoot on Oct. 3, so this will probably be a great time to put this on my adapted Canon 80-200 f/2.8 along with my S1H and 24-105 f/4. I may set up a cheap model session just to put these duo to a good video test!1 point -
Great lens. I've seen them go in the range of 50-100 euros. When in good condition with box and all, I would certainly bet on the higher end of that. The non-E pancake is more or less the same, is said to have better coating and fetches a somewhat higher price.1 point

In addition, the few DOF scenarios we are not able to achieve on M43 are generally setups I wouldn't want to use for video anyway. I can't match a 85mm full frame f/1.2, but at the same time I want BOTH the eye and the eyelashes in focus at the same time in my videos.1 point -
That is INCREDIBLE. For 99% of us we don't need global shutter.1 point

Which is the exact reason I’m on M43. M43 video IQ, IBIS and compactness in tandem are a great combo for my work. I also know what I want in FOV’s so I do the math when I mount a lens. No biggie.1 point -
Using the .13 crop factor would actually mean it IS very doable to "match" (enough to satisfy me anyway) with a 600mm f9 (or even f8) 8x10 lens to M43. Using .13 instead of .15 as the crop factor, you would need about a 39mm f1.2 lens for the f9 or an f1 lens for the f8. (again though, we do not know what it actually was). A 40mm 1.2 would give a close enough photo. but you could even use an existing Kipon 40mm f0.85 (a lens for both M43 and APSC formats) and keep the change! Just found that interesting and I would love to see someone do a direct comparison (between an 8x10 camera anyone got a digital back that size with a 600mm f8 lens who also has M43 with a Kipon 40 f0.85? Great! I look forward to the tests).1 point

Firmware 2.10 available. https://fujifilm-x.com/global/support/download/firmware/cameras/x-h1/ Auto exposure stepping issue fixed. (Auto ISO video mode). I can definitely see an improvement on ibis stepping issue too. Well done!1 point

I'd agree - if you want to stay with m43, the G9 is the way to go, it's a great hybrid stills/video camera with superb quality 1080p and no-sensor-crop 4k up to 60p, plus outstanding IBIS/EIS.1 point

I have consistently failed to make my own footage as good as I was hoping for, so have decided to try my hand at grading the best footage available, the sample shots from the manufacturers themselves. I've done this in the past but got sidetracked, but am now back on it. I figure that until I can make ARRI or RED footage look good, there's no point criticising my own footage - maybe the footage is fine and it's my grading skills that are solely to blame. My previous attempts, however short, made me realise a few things: flat ungraded footage from any camera looks dull there was a lot more noise in the RED and ARRI footage than I was expecting - ie, A LOT more Overall, the biggest surprise was how average the footage looked. Since then I've learned a bunch and hopefully will have more success. Anyone want to join me? Arri footage is here: https://www.arri.com/en/learn-help/learn-help-camera-system/camera-sample-footage RED footage is here: https://www.red.com/sample-r3d-files Komodo footage from Seth Dunlap is here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cfxdizrgt3aa4ml/AADPxF6XZIs2_uB7Xt_piHUya?dl=0 BM UMP 12K footage is here (underneath the "Generation 5 colour science" heading): https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicursaminipro BM Pocket camera footage is here: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicpocketcinemacamera/gallery Sony Venice frames here: http://www.xdcam-user.com/tag/footage/ but I couldn't find any official footage for download I've downloaded footage from https://raw.film before too, so that might be worth checking out. As a reality check, I'm also pulling in the ML footage I've shot back when I was playing with it on my Canon 700D, and also the test shots I've been shooting with the BM Micro Cinema Camera. I suspect that the footage I shoot is much better than I think, and that I'm much worse at colour grading than I think. If anyone is interested in joining me that would be fun, and if there are other places to download well shot sample footage that would also be very interesting.1 point

In my opinion, here is what GoPro needs to make next year to truly stand out and offer a worthwhile upgrade: - GoPro X. Bigger sensor than the 9 and 4K120p along with 10 bits recording. - Gopro Max 2. Dual 8K30P sensor that gives a 4K image when you use it in Hero mode. It's like having a normal GoPro in every direction, no need to frame. And a mode that gives 2.7K60P when in hero mode (unlike FHD today). Same sensor size as today to make all that possible.1 point

IronFilm reacted to MicahMahaffey for a topic
Now you're getting aesthetic confused with aspect ratio. On 70mm light is drawn across the frame differently. There's a larger than life feel to it. Something about having the compression of a 50mm focal length while maintaining a wider image closer to 35mm gives a feeling, a look. Same goes for animorphic, it has it's own "look". It produces a bigger image, even when viewed on a small screen. I could tell Joker was shot on the Alexa 65 after seeing the trailer. It just had that feeling. It had that big image look. It's hard to describe, but I remember having conversations in another forum a few years back and someone was telling me about how human eyes can't see more than 24fps and 4k isnt something humans can resolve. Which we all know is 1000% false. I guess the point is, just because you cant see the "look" doesnt mean it's not there. Cinematography is subjective enough without telling people they're wrong for liking something. You could go grab two different films, one shot on 35mm and another on 16mm and theres a good chance I'd be able to immediately tell which is which. Yes, its hard to tell when different sensor sizes are cut together. MFT is good enough for any professional/narrative work. In a lot of cases full frame might even be overkill. I just like the look of full frame. It's as simple as that. You dont have to notice the look I'm speaking of, but I do.1 point -
Exactly, fullframe is needed for photography. The future is a funny thing and frankly I don't need to buy a 2025 camera now. I can buy one easily enough in 2025. I got a GH5 in 2017 and now seldom use it. Instead a Pocket 4K from 2018 became my main choice, swiftly followed by a Pocket 6K from 2019. I live in the here and now and don't worry about the future for video. Maybe in 5 years, 3D will be back in fashion. Maybe 10k is what everyone is shooting. Who knows. I never buy gear for the future, just for what I need now, and should it serve me well in the future, all the better. The only gear I invest in for the future is lenses. Camera technology just changes too much over such a short period of time to consider it for future needs.1 point

From my understanding 8k and 4k are not cropped but scaled at least from the product page. So you should get 4k, 8k and 12k all raw and the same field of view that makes it much more practical.1 point

Hey y'all! Sorry I wasn't able to get footage up sooner. I've been feeling under the weather this week, which has been understandably stressful given COVID. Still waiting for my test results, but I'm improving steadily, so hopefully everything comes back negative. But enough about me--let's get to the fun part. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nYFylo03zFn2W-P5OtZ08xvZEuQrscGh?usp=sharing These shots are just casual off-the-cuff clips taken around my apartment complex, but hopefully they still prove useful to those interested in how the F3 grades. I tried to get a variety of lighting scenarios, shot sizes, and color temps. The cookbook shot is ISO 1600, and the one under the bed is maxed out at 6400. Everything else is at the F3's base ISO of 800. At @mercer's request, I've included some cats this time. 😁 Keep in mind that I sometimes adjusted/bracketed focus or exposure during shots, so be sure and scrub through to find the most useful frames. Let me know if y'all have any other questions!1 point -
Here you go, the film has a grand total of 8 views, go make it be 9! Forgot that Jackson was there for of the days! He's "Grip" in the credits, but that I feel is totally inaccurate. General lighting (holding a flecky) / camera assistant is more accurate.1 point
