EOSHD on The Golden Hour podcast with Dave Maze / In-depth interview
Dave Maze reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
I sat down with my friend Dave Maze for a podcast recently. We talk about the origin of EOSHD 10 years ago, and the start of the DSLR video revolution, my filmmaking adventure in Berlin, recent controversies and edgy camera opinions. Big thanks to Dave for taking the time to let me ramble and for listing to my waffling! https://www.eoshd.com/news/eoshd-on-the-golden-hour-podcast-with-dave-maze-in-depth-interview/1 point -

Any chance you'll upgrade firmware to work without motor with the Sigma FP with L lenses or MC21 adapter? I just pledged on Indiegogo for my BMPCC 4K. Can't wait!1 point -
@Emanuel Thank you! I'll take a close look. Up next, I intend to do some side experiments that I've been waiting forever to try out : )1 point
-
Its a fixed internal rechargeable. It can be powered and simultaneously charged through USB.1 point

Amazing! Congrats @BTM_Pix - If Viltrox ever get their adapters working correctly on the BMPCCs I'll definitely pick one of these up.1 point

EVO PRO II feedback

DJI software drives me crazy sometimes. There have been times where I check ahead of time to make sure that no Unlocking is needed in the location I am going to shoot. Then when I show up, the app is telling me I need to unlock that location. Of course, it is out in the boondocks and I don't have cell service, so I can't unlock the location by phone. Then when I get home I look again and confirm that NO UNLOCK is needed for that location. The other issues I have is where the "checkbox warnings" (I don't know what they are called, but they ask you to confirm that you are authorized to fly in that area and that you accept the responsibility to fly there), will pop up NUMEROUS times during the course of a flight. Literally, they will pop up 20 times during the course of one battery when i am flying in an area less than 100 meters square. Constantly having to consent to their requirements when trying to film drives me crazy.1 point -
The 40mm and 28mm along with the 20mm 3.5 and 90mm 3.5 is my favorite set of lenses. Great separation, smooth rendering, and extremely light. Highly recommend them. With low light performance getting better and better I think they will become more and more useful.1 point

The sensor on the Micro Studio 4k is not very good, especially compared with that on the Micro Cinema Camera.1 point
-
Yes, but it is less light on a proportionally smaller area. So, cropping-in on an image circle doesn't change the exposure.1 point

Panasonic EVA-2 Wish List
Zak Forsman reacted to TomTheDP for a topic
I'd agree. Color is defiantly better than Sony however after using Z-cam I find the Panny colors a bit subpar as well. I know the S1/S1H sensor is capable of 4K 60p 422 as well as 4k 120p. Z-cam is doing it. The S1H body is plenty big with fans, so I wouldn't think cooling would be the issue. Of course they are still great cameras I just don't understand the limitations.1 point -

I think Panasonic will jump straight into LiDAR in combination with their existing DFD technology, and I wouldn’t be surprised this is going to be introduced next year. LiDAR is free from nasty Sony patents and I have seen really impressive results utilizing this technology so far. DFD will remain really important for ‘understanding’ the image; LiDAR is just ‘depth information’ so they’ll work together to provide (continuous) focus.1 point

I appreciated your(@Andrew Reid & @Dave Maze) insight on Olympus and their opportunities. Just a few months ago, almost everyone was saying they're over without giving the slightest chance to the new ownership... seems unfair. They have a unique opportunity for becoming competitive in video due to not a having high-end video market to protect, especially if any sort of raw or 10 bit is included on the camera. Add waveforms and a few other significant features in firmware and they could be golden, given there are so many lenses are out there (new and used). Forget the FF stuff, just sit back and watch other commit suicide in that market. So much of the focus is on the cameras- not enough on lens selection (with AF). MFT and Olympus in particular could have amazing possibilities here with their phase detect AF. If done right, they could eat up significant market share. Sure, it probably will never be the dominant player, but it will attract hobbyists and pros alike (as they often just rent high-end gear that matches customer needs). A question to both of you: Do you think Panasonic will ever have PDAF? I've heard many people say this won't happen because Sony owns the tech when it come to their sensors and won't "allow" Panasonic to have it. Personally, I think it's BS, but have you heard similar notions? Without PDAF on MFT, their future's very limited IMO for video.1 point -
Really enjoyed this, from the nostalgic storytimes at the beginning, through the gear talk, to the little grilling Dave gave you. It felt candid and effortless, and it left me entertained. Thanks. I’d sub to your podcasts.1 point

Twice the price then? I'd be happy with something between €100 and €150 as less as possible. Is it doable?1 point -
