  1. Here are some frame grabs from my first feature length film Bad Decisions. I started on the GH4, then shot some scenes on the GH5. I will finish this next year with the S5 and S1H if COVID-19 doesn't turn into COVID-20. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I'm probably going to go straight to Amazon Prime. My budget thus far has been $10K and I have another $3K or so for the last two scenes. As so many of you know, no ifs, ands or buts about it; filmmaking is fucking hard! This is probably why this is my last one. I've been discouraged so many times that I had pretty much decided to delete the whole film and just quit altogether. But looking at these grabs, and knowing that I lit that, I blocked that, I wrote that, I shot that and I directed that gives me the courage to complete what I've started. It would be nice if I break even, but even if I don't, I can say that "Hey, I did that!" And boy I didn't do that alone! I had so much help from friends, family and complete strangers that it's too much to even count! They were angels, there just when I needed them, and for not a moment longer, There was one scene, that I was shooting straight guerrilla style. I needed to shoot on three city blocks at night, and I had to light it, and there was a gun scene that kinda made me nervous for the safety of the cast and crew. We have no permit process in my city, so I went to the police department, and explained what I was doing that night, and they were like "Ok". As soon as it got dark around cast and crew call time was at 6pm. We went to the neighbors houses and let them know what we were doing. We started blocking, and laying down markers for lights tripods and actors. It got dark at 9pm, and we started shooting. We were shooting in moving cars, had special effects, and every scene was lit. We even faked a window getting shot out. We wrapped that scene at 5am the next day, right before the sun came up. Do you know for the entire time we were shooting, not a single car drove up any block visible? It's like we rented 100 homes, paid everyone to stay inside and blocked off the area for a 1/4 mile radius! God was most definitely on my side that day, and it was one of the best scenes in the entire film!

  2. External RAW is nice to have if you need it, but having to send your camera in is ridiculous. 10 bit is much more useful for 99% of the work most of us do... Give us that, internally, please. I want Nikon to succeed, it's better for everyone, but c'mon.

  3. I use the entire Flashpoint system, and they really do work great! I use the Flashpoint XPLOR 600 and the Zoom LiOn.

  4. Iโ€™m not sure which did it, but I did calibration as well as firmware update, and the noise has disappeared. Iโ€™m pretty impressed so far, especially for photos, I never would have imagined using the pocket for photography, other than maybe panos. Look at the crop of this 64MP photo, blown out sky, yes I know, but the detail is pretty great-

  6. What were the lenses you used? What made ya go with the GH4/5? Did you find shooting in low light to be a problem? What would you say was the most difficult thing? BTW! It looks good! Please let us know when it's available!

  8. We can help you better if you let us know WHAT you want to photograph and what you want to film. For example, if you will be shooting sports (both photos and video) you will probably want a camera with really good autofocus and a high fps. If you are shooting travel videos, then a video camera with a really wide dynamic range, good low light and more color depth, yet somewhat portable might be a good idea. If you are shooting documentaries, maybe a camera that would be a more streamlined "run and gun" camera might be be better. If you plan to shoot photos and videos of weddings, you might have a different need than other areas. Also, if you are going to shoot with two (or more) cameras at the same time, it might be best to get two of the same cameras so that it is easier to match the footage (make the colors look the same) from both cameras. It looks like in the past you MIGHT have owned a GH4 and / or a GX85, right? (I just looked at your content history and it looks like you brought up some topics related to those cameras). If so, do you have a collection of M43 lenses???

  9. There is a switchable preference for out of range detection in AF-C which is to hold at current position or move to your calibrated infinity point.

  10. Looks good! It's very hard work working on any low or no budget project especially one that takes months/years to complete.

  11. Congrats. If one doesn't have a very effective team, filmmaking is usually a very difficult job. Especially for Independent Filmmakers, on much smaller budgets. Congrats on making it this far.

  12. Same. It's incredibly frustrating, because I'm in a state that actually did well (Vermont) but I can't go to any of the neighboring states for work without having to quarantine because they didn't do so well. And even if I could, it's not worth the risk to myself or my loved ones.

  13. It is pretty strange, I didn't pre-order anything, I just went to a very large retailer's site here in the USA called BestBuy and ordered it...got it within 3 days. I was actually surprised because the two main online camera stores in the USA; Adorama and BH did not have it in stock.

    RIP Mr. Forever Bond

Emanuel, clearly you fell in love with the dasssshhing Sean๐Ÿ˜œ As a Scot I'll say we will miss having a real A star like him. He was a great Bond but The Hill was his best film for me. Only actor who got away with never losing his accent!

    Apple TV?

Unbiased. And, I've used a few different media boxes. Sony, IPTV box, even the Samsung TVs internally built system - they even have apple TV built into the TV (but I still resort to the standalone box). Now.... I've used Sony before moving to Apple TV Box - its just easy to use, hassle free - intuitive. Funny thing is, even if the apple TV is built into the Samsung TVs that I have.... I don't use it simply because the remote (Samsung Remote vs. Apple TV remote) isn't there.... The whole experience of it being so simple - idiot proofing - is what draws me in... Only complaints I have about the Apple remote - sometimes its overly sensitive (the touch portion of it) and its so small.... you can lose it often... Editted to add: I have a lot of non-tech savvy people in my household - I can take the time to learn a system, but I don't have patience to baby and/or teach every single person that is in my household nor those that visits my household and starts asking me how do you use this thing....

  16. thinking way... outside the box but can you control two motors ? Like if i had a taking lens and anamorphic lens would it be possible to calibrate both lenses then not have to worry about a single focus solution ?

  17. I watched this video just for the comedy factor. Just watching the video started giving me a headache. The Panasonic S5 is such a joy to shoot with compared to the R6. It's like Canon is selling a sports car but puts a limiter on it, rations the amount of horsepower it can put to the wheels at random times, then expects you to thank them those few times you can actually drive it like their marketing material said it could be driven.

Had this happen in town on the showgrounds in the middle of an oval. My third or fourth flight, nobody around except a few blokes from the mens shed who wanted a demo. i had an all clear ready to take off, sent it up about ten meters, then the warning box popped up scared the crap out of me. Cant doing nothing till you click ok. I was in beginner mode which limits you to about thirty meters. So i wasn't doing anything to ambitious, Very annoying. Probably wont send it up anywhere near town in future lol. Don't need the aviation authority bashing down any doors ๐Ÿ™„

  19. Here in the USA it is getting bad again as well but I don't think they will go into lockdown again. Even without a forced lockdown, I'm starting to decline more jobs as this thing worsens. I would love for the S5 to be the one body to rule them all as you say, but I just can't get around the lens situation and AF. I have so many EF lenses and they work great on the S5 except for continuous AF which I use for photography; I shoot a lot of runway fashion shows and it is critical for that type of shoot. I do still love my 5DIV so for now I'm just going to stick with that for photography and use the S5 to replace my GH5 kit. That will let me reduce my kit since I won't need to carry MFT lenses. I'll probably never buy any L mount lenses, unless their AF improves to the point to where I think it would be worth it for gimbal work. Instead of buying all of the bodies for that test wedding, I don't know about in France...but here in the USA I would just rent all of the extra equipment I would need and add that cost to the client's invoice. That would let you see it all work together without actually buying any of it. I rent all the time when I need a lens that I don't have or the client wants additional camera angles. On hand I typically only have 1 body for photography, 1 for time lapses, 1 for small videos / B roll (S5), and one for higher end commercial video work (C200). Anything beyond that and I rent whatever is needed and charge the client the rental fee.

  21. That sounds like a good decision. I'm so impressed with the S5 I'm thinking about picking up a used S1R for photography.

  22. I haven't used the S5 yet, but I do own and have used the S1H for the last year. I love the camera. For me, the biggest advantages are timecode (a must for my doc work when I have external audio), the All-I 400Mbps (sometimes required), and the unlimited record times. The ProRes Raw is great, but the S5 will be getting that soon. Otherwise, I think the S5's more compact size, better AF (though the S1H is confirmed to get it), and the already amazing 10-bit 422 150Mbps codec that I most often use on the S1H anyway, make it a pretty compelling option.
