  2. I would go with Canon's RF system strictly for the C70 and the awesome RF lenses dropping. That will be an amazing camera for everything you can do for the next 3-years. Also, I don't like Sony's image out of camera and it takes a lot of work to make it look as good as Canon's right out of the gate color and IQ - the FX9 image looks better, but everything else has an image that isn't nearly as good as Canon or Panasonic. The Panasonic S5 and a couple of their f1.8 lenses coming out would also be a great, more affordable option.

    Fuji X-S10

This looks like it could be a sweet little camera, possibly a mini X-H1. Rumors point to a deep grip, IBIS, same screen and sensor as X-T4, old battery unfortunately, and priced at $999. If fuji gets aggressive with this thing and gives us 4K60, we could have the budget king. I just wish fuji could get rid of recording limits on their cameras. And with the 10-24 mk2 lens supposedly coming this month, we will see if fuji has fixed all the auto focus and noise issues with their lenses.

  4. Thanks, yeah I love that 35. The crash zoom has become part of our visual vocabulary on a mockumentary we’re developing so I think we’ll need to carry one of these heavy zooms. Would try the Tamron first, as that looks to perform better, but the Sigma will pair well with the 18-35 we’ll also be using - so I may buy and try the Sigma first, and return if it’s just too heavy and the stabilisation doesn’t work as I hope it does. I worry about that zoom ring placement too - so need to get a feel of it. Will let you know my thoughts.

  7. Yes, back to heel-kicking 🤪 I am currently flipping between strimming in my garden between rain showers, finishing the painting of my office finally after a year of just not looking at it and browsing rubbish on-line. And Winter is coming as Ned Bean once said...

  8. Thanks Mercer, that’s a good looking picture. I used f/4 for a while but kept finding a needed more light.

  9. Well so far, the Panasonic lenses have been pretty stellar in their performance and even though these are designed to be a more compact and cheaper option, I am pretty sure they are going to so much more than great value for money. I'm pretty happy at 600 euros and mid 300 grams considering the new Sigma f1.4 version is about double the price and weight (albeit f1.4 vs f1.8). And f1.4 anyway (never mind f1.0 etc), - increasing focus difficulties and there is not that much real world difference in DOF or light gathering between f1.4 and f1.8. I've been used to shooting Fuji f2's which have a DOF equivalent wide open of more like f3, so am looking forward to the full-frame combo of sensor and f1.8 for both lower light capability and shallower DOF. Hopefully some of these new 85's will have been out for review these last few weeks and the announcement on the 5th won't be just that, but some actual third party reviews etc. Pity I can't get out and shoot anything though right now as my next 3 jobs have been put on ice due to lockdown here in France. Just as I was getting going again. Can you just fuck off Covid 🤬

  10. True they do not have a dedicated video camera, though they do offer dedicated video lenses, but based on the OP's original question and further responses, this is someone looking to get into photography/video on a relatively low budget rather than expecting to shoot even an indie movie. The Fuji XT3 produces excellent 4k, 10 bit internal video, full-frame quality matching stills and the XT4 ups the game further with IBIS and back up insurance of being able to write to both cards which few can do. As a starting out system or moving up from 4/3rds, it's excellent. Weak point is the lack of video-orientated lenses with AF though several of them are more than good enough in this department, particularly the; 18-55, 16-55, 50-140, 23 f2 and 50 f2. It's the system I have been used for 50+ jobs since the XT3 came out (and XH1 previously) but have just moved the Lumix S5 for a number of reasons that are not critical of the Fuji system. There really is not a bad system though, whether it be Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panny or Fuji as each have strengths and weaknesses and will suit certain users better than others.

  11. I'd be very surprised if a camera this popular will get a big price discount on sale so early on. Wait until 2021, at least.

  12. I use FastStone for batch operations, it can extract the JPG file from the RAW file, but I'm not sure if it can actually convert the RAW file to a JPG (there is a difference). Also, there is a new version of codecs for Windows 10, you have to get it from the Windows Store, after installing this codec I am able to view 5DIV, T6S, and S5 RAW files in Windows Explorer: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/raw-image-extension/9nctdw2w1bh8?activetab=pivot:overviewtab Also, not sure if you are aware...but just straight RAW to JPG conversion will usually not yield the greatest results since RAW files are usually generated to be further manually processed. Personally if I wanted the flexibility of processing the RAW files but also wanted the full resolution JPGs I would just set the camera to save each image as RAW+JPG....that will save you processing time later and will probably yield the best results if you don't plan on further processing the RAW files.

  13. So I don't know if this has been posted yet in this thread but here are some files from the C70 to play with : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5wrkdi1w5flb94w/AADlSb_ODzKnOO7f2gBTJ_9Ma?dl=0 I don't know for you but I hear people complain about the difficult Canon codecs and files to edit compared to say those of the Sony A7sIII but I have no problem editing in real time those files on my computer. Speaking about IQ, it's quite good, the amount of noise in the shadows is minimal, it's a pleasure to grade those files.

    RIP Mr. Forever Bond

Yep, should have switched roles with Christopher Lambert in Highlander 😉 He will always be best known and remembered as Bond, but of course was in so many other movies.

  15. At 3k, I think you are going to struggle to get 2 cameras such as an A7iii and a Black Magic and lenses etc, so why not just consider one single hybrid and one decent zoom? At 3k, my pick right now would be Fuji XT4 with battery grip + 16-55mm f2.8 and you'd have some change left over. Right there you have got shoot all day capability due to the already good in body battery and with added grip power...which nicely balance out the 16-55mm f2.8...which has a FF focal range of 24-83mm...produces excellent stills and exceedingly high video quality straight out of the box. I honestly think it is the least compromised hybrid available right now, all factors considered including price. My other pick would be the Lumix S5 which is what I have chosen as my hybrid, but for me, I'd prefer to shoot this as a pair with some fast primes...which are coming shortly, but a pair of anything (except maybe XT3's) will bust your budget. My third and final option would be a pair of XT3's, with the 23mm f2, 50mm and 90mm f2 which would just sneak into your budget if you bought nearly new with the only real caveat being no IBIS or OIS with any of that so maybe less useable on the video side without mono or tripod.

  16. I'm an owner of an EM10III and 3 lenses, but typically only use one (manual prime) ...and I make films all the time, so my perspective is that almost all this gear on the market pretty much works great if you know what you want and how to get it.

  17. I use the entire Flashpoint system, and they really do work great! I use the Flashpoint XPLOR 600 and the Zoom LiOn.

  18. I did it guys. I went back to the Sony F3! Finally found a descent deal on it. 2.1k for all this. Since I don't need the 4k I was between this, a canon c300, c100, Sony fs5 and fs700. The F3 with 444 has 850hrs and the pix e5 came with 960gbs of storage.

  19. The sensor on the Micro Studio 4k is not very good, especially compared with that on the Micro Cinema Camera.

  20. Yes, but it is less light on a proportionally smaller area. So, cropping-in on an image circle doesn't change the exposure.

  21. 4K high framerates and auto-focus aside, the S1H objectively delivers a better image on the whole. A7SIII still suffers from substandard color fidelity and baked in noise reduction that wrecks detail. The way i look at it is that the S1H excels at the minimum specs that i consider essential, while the A7SIII excels at some specialty operations, but doesn't meet important specs I consider essential. I was hopeful that the A7SIII would surpass the S1H but there are base operations that have to be met before I can get excited about 4k 120p (which is overkill for most situations, anyway. I find b-roll captured at 48-72fps more useful in the edit). I usually have to speed up 120fps for pacing.

  22. How is the s1h outdated?? Last I looked, movies were shot at 24fps, tv at 25 or 30 depending on region, and in most cases still delivered interlaced. If theater quality still means something, it’s still finished as 2k. If on Netflix, Amazon or similar, I’ll concede the bump to 4k is a “given” but it’s still 24p, 25 or 30. How any of that is outdating the s1h?

    Fuji X-S10

I still may come back to Fuji... Right now, my only camera and lens is the S5 and 20-60mm. It’s a brilliant combo for most of my needs but came up against 2 needs in the last week and that is the need for a pair of fast(ish) primes and the 35 & 85 f1.8’s should take care of that, plus a ‘long’ landscape lens and a 70-300 is due sometime soon. But it’s weddings that are my primary income so will need to test one of the above primes in some kind of social environment to just confirm to myself the whole system/combo is good enough for my needs... ...or it’s a pair of XT4’s, Smallrig grips and set of f2 primes. Unless an XH2 appeared by next Spring and that would be more likely. I do like the new Fuji but I’d be kidding myself it was suitable for my needs.

    Fuji X-S10

Recently most of the forum topics have been about new FF cameras for $3-5 thousand, but I bet 90% of views on this forum are from people looking to spend $1000 or less. Even in the USA the average family savings account is only about the price of a new car, and for age under 35 the average is $10,000. If you do mostly hand held shooting and don't care about 4k60p, the X-S10 is the obvious choice for the IBIS. I compared the After Effects stabilizer (same as Premier?) doing walking/running torture tests, and the Final Cut Pro InertiaCam stabilizer was much better. I haven't tried Resolve.

Even though I had one, I always seem to forget that the 16-80 exists. OK, changing my 'one and done' to X-S10 + 16-80. Also it's a constant aperture. And the lens is WR. Personally, for me, I'd still go XT3 + Smallrig grip because; it's cheaper, better video, prefer the screen type and weather sealed. But both I think are equally valid options.

    Fuji X-S10

Yeah, this one with the 18-55 or the 16-80 probably will be my start (always liked the 18-55 but I've got use to the 24mm eq. in my trips. XT-3: yeah, could be another option. But it have two usability-ish issues: no IBIS (I know that the 18-55 OIS is very good, but IBIS stills works better in video) and go back and forth between stills and video (I remember that it was one of your complaints about it). And for hybrid use, PASM dials are better than the usual Fujifilm dials (terrific for stills, not so much for video). The XS-10 even have separated meus for still and video. Grip: yeah, I'm used with external grips (always attached in my E-M10 and GX9), but a grip with a shutter button usually works better than a external grip with the shutter in the original position. Liked the S5 a lot, but FF is a distant options especially now (live in a country that, with all the taxes, photographic material have a 100% increase over US prices, with average income about 50% of US...is like cameras as 4x more expensive here). And I like to shoot a lot in concerts (er, before the pandemic and a small daughter 🙂 ), and crop factors are beneficial in this scenario. Got some amazing shots from far with m43 cameras with the amazing 135mm f/2.8 Contax Zeiss.

according to this interview (https://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2020/09/04/fujifilm-interview-covid-gfx-strategy-shrinking-ibis-300K-cycle-shutter) X-H2 will come with "some sort of breakthrough", "something more revolutionary". Possibly global shutter? oversampled 6K60? AI boosted AF? Since they appear to be very ambitious for the X-H2, I am willing to wait. X-T3 is still all I need now.

  28. AngloSaxonic?! That's a new one. Actually, I'm Anglo Norman... A history joke for all you fans of William the Conqueror out there. I live in the Pacific Northwest of 'Merica, land of the (nothing is for) free, home of the brave (shopper who goes to the store on Black Friday). In America, anything you can think of is for sale on Black Friday. People have literally gotten killed in stampedes to get into stores the second they open. It's insanity. Of course, I wouldn't think of going into a store on that day. But everything is for sale online anyway. I think I found the tripod at B&H.

  29. That seems kind of strange... On the S1, if you put an EF-S lens on the MC-21, the camera will automatically default to APS-C mode, both for stills and for video. In fact, you can't get out of APS-C mode. The exception to the above is something like Tamron EF-S lenses since I guess even their crop lenses had the EF mount.
