Panasonic S5 User Experience

I've been working with the GH5 for the past few years and the fastest lenses I could get were F0.95 MFT which translates into F2.8, so these lenses look great to me. I do wish they had a 14mm or 16mm prime on the way for real estate work, but other than that, the 24mm for video and the 50mm for portraits might pull me further into the "alliance". If the 24mm outperforms my current Canon EF 24mm for sharpness and usability then I may go for it. I tested the Canon EF-S 10-22mm; and holy sh*t I stand corrected @Lux Shots, the Sigma 18-35mm EF-S lens does work on the S5, but not the Canon EF-S 10-22mm. I also tested the Canon EF-S 18-135 F3.5-F5.6 and it worked also. Maybe the EF-S 10-22mm does not report that it is a crop sensor lens and the rest of them do which is a real bummer because that 10-22mm would have become my real estate video lens. I'm still not sure why manually selecting APS-C mode does not make the EF-S 10-22mm work unless its a crop factor thing that gets adjusted when the lens reports its crop factor to the Sigma EF adapter. This little camera just never ceases to amaze me; Panasonic has got to be the best kept secret out there. All YouTubbers will ever talk about is the AF, there's so many more important things to a camera system than just AF.3 points -

Id rent first before splashing 10k on equipment! Try both systems out for week or two and then make move!2 points -

I did the same thing, I got the Sigma adapter and can now use all of my EF mount FF lenses with no problem on the S5 and out of all of my lenses including APS-C lenses only the EF-S 10-22mm does not work. The focus peaking kind of sucks, very hard to see and for me a lot of the time its just not visible at all and combine that with the fact you can't zoom in to check focus while recording and the focusing situation when using EF lenses in general isn't that great; I am sure the native lens experience is better. As long as you aren't filming with a razor thin depth of field and not filming anything fast paced its workable but definitely not great.1 point -

I went a7siii + a7rii for photos ( and B-cam if necessary), the only thing missing thing on the a7siii is internal NDs, but then I got two variable NDs that live on the lenses I use the most, so that not really an issue. I also got a couple of NanLite PavoTube , the form factor is great and they can run on internal batteries. I m very happy that the all my gear can fit in a backpack + 1 large tripod bag. If you are going to do a lot of weddings, low light is going to be important , very often you won t be able to control the lighting.1 point

I honestly would go Canon with EF glass. Still performs amazing on new EOS R5/R6/R with native adapter. Can use the ND adapter as a bonus. Can adapt the EF to BMPCC4K can use natively on a BMPCC6K, ZCAM, or Kinefinity MAVO. Can use the EF glass + speedbooster on C70 or future CXX camera’s... That or go Sony as they are the only other company with competent AF, tons of lenses, and mirrorless and cinema cameras...you just are more locked into their E-mount.1 point -
I've heard great things about the IQ of the Sigma, and I'd probably choose that over the Tamron, unless you are looking for primes to pair with it... the Tamron 35mm and 45mm get pretty good reviews. Good luck.1 point

Don’t waste it on a system. You’ll only be mad with yourself later on for choosing that system. Buy a body with 1 native lens (that way when it is time to ditch and move on to another system it isn’t hard to let go...) Invest in PL lenses and learn to manual focus. You won’t regret it!!! Trust me. My current suggestions: Either get two Panasonic S5s or two Fuji X-T4s. With a workhorse lens for both cameras. Go for the Ironglass 3 lens set. Bonus: Get a Blackmagic 2.5K camera with mft mount from EBay. Also, buy a bunch of LED lights. Six 900 LED would be pretty decent. You might want to get cages, matte box, external monitor, tripods, slider, gimbal.... anything I’m missing?1 point

C70 + Speedbooster: $6k 24-70mm IS or 24-105mm f4 IS (f2.8 with booster): $800-900 canon 35mm f2: $600 or so canon 50mm f1.4: $450 or so 70-200mm f4 is: $1000 (or 16-35mm if you need wide). — still have some moola left over for some mics, extra battery, accessories. That’s what I would do with $10k starting fresh.1 point -

I would go with Canon's RF system strictly for the C70 and the awesome RF lenses dropping. That will be an amazing camera for everything you can do for the next 3-years. Also, I don't like Sony's image out of camera and it takes a lot of work to make it look as good as Canon's right out of the gate color and IQ - the FX9 image looks better, but everything else has an image that isn't nearly as good as Canon or Panasonic. The Panasonic S5 and a couple of their f1.8 lenses coming out would also be a great, more affordable option.1 point -
Who was it who asked about 0.58x BMPCC Speed Booster on the GH5S? Well....
Video Hummus reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Holy s***! First let's just say my BMPCC Speed Boosters were, erm, disassembled and rattling around in a box. Had completely abandoned them - since I stopped using the Pocket Cinema Camera - then, Metabones updated the firmware to kill the BMPCC 0.58x on the GH4 (the only camera it fits). They did this for a very good reason - it could damage the shutter, goes very deep. My EF version does not fit the GH5S at all. You can screw the glass out away from the sensor and it will mount but then no infinity and after 1 second the screen goes blank and camera says 'lens not connected'. Boo. The NIKON version on the other hand... It's pant wetting good. Not only does it fit... FULL FRAME field of view in Cinema 4K. It clears the sensor housing. Infinity focus. Actually, allows you to fine tune to infinity as it even goes past infinity!! By the way, with this camera, the GH5S 4096 x 2160 mode is wider than 3840 x 2160 - uses more width on the sensor (mutli-aspect sensor) - full 19mm of sensor BEFORE speed booster applied!! Apply the BMPCC 0.58x Speed Booster factor to that and you get... 1.07x crop on full frame - i.e., basically nothing. Naaathing. It's full frame.. LOL. Here's the calculations just for fun: 1.86 * 0.58 focal reducer = 1.07x crop Or you can do the 1.86x crop diagonal, that is 1.07x Even more fun are the pictures. Oh my god. Inky blacks in 10bit F0.75 Clean ISO 12,800 in hybrid LOG gamma At least 13 stops dynamic range like raw Blackmagic No IBIS, so no shifting vignette (Although don't expect corner sharpness to be all that) Sharp image wide open at F1.4 on my Nikon 58mm AF-S Will shoot some footage with it and put it on the blog. So we can finally say... out loud... Panasonic GH5S, full frame 10bit camera GH5S owners... Get those Nikon Metabones SB 0.58x out immediately!!1 point
