  1. It’s arrived. Just charging batteries but first impressions of the body... - Great form factor, makes total sense although could be nice to have a compact EVF somewhere. - It’s much more lightweight than I thought. Doesn’t feel that much heavier than the A7SIII. - Body is solid, but the material is definitely a bit more budget than other C-series. - LCD is larger than I thought, although it’s on the flimsy side. - Button layout is great. Everything is there although the “media” button is almost impossible to press with your right hand on the grip. - The top handle is neat however the texture feels weird. Others might not mind, but I think I’ll have to wrap some extra material round it, haha. In conclusion, Canon have stripped back the premium feel a little to give us a camera with great features at a great price point. The form factor makes sense and they’ve done a great job of fusing these bodies together. Now, let’s see how it does on the field.

  2. I’ve had nearly every single BM camera to date and I’ve never had 1 issue. Ive left them in storage for months, and they revive like Lazarus. I once thought I was having sensor issues on a UMP Pro. Sent it in and they quickly calibrated sensor. It was already good but I guess they tightened it up. BM cams sometimes have quirks upon first release, but those quirks get fixed and generally they release updates that add more features than when they were first released. I absolutely love BM. I do wish that they’d do some things a bit different here and there, but there is not another manufacturer who is so interested in delighting their customers. Panny would be a close 2nd IMO.

  3. I can speak on BM Pocket cameras reliability! ive had two 4Ks and two 6Ks. my first unit of both had to be replaced (4K for power issues) (6K for dead pixels on monitor). Both the replacement units however have been rock solid, never had an issue with them. I think its more of a case that some units are bad but when you get a good one it's reliable. I would buy from a reputable reseller and open a ticket with BM if you have any issues with your unit. I may be outspoken but I don't think the camera doesn't really need to be rigged. Ive shot documentary style films just using LPE6 and Cfast cards. You will need a fair few batteries though. Braw Q5 is surprising efficient on card space btw. Ive been considering the battery grip for when I need longer than 45m continuous. If you are using the 4k I would skip the speed booster and just use native lenses.

  5. Be cool, if the P6K can handle a whole feature film -- shot in Japan, co-produced by me: Be ready for what that baby can give to you if well handled by you ;- )

  6. The first sentence doesn't seem quite right, ARM designs chips, they don't produce them. Apple license one (or more likely several) designs from ARM and combine them with their own designs and possible also others into the M1 chip. IMO, integrated graphics is the way to go for laptops, but not desktop computers. One of Apple's problems has been that they went with Radeon and Intel Iris GPUs. Both nVidia and standard Intel GPUs are much better supported than Radeon and Iris. Going for ARM processors they might use something like the Mali GPU. It will be crucial that whatever GPU they uses works well with Adobe Premiere Pro/Resolve, but it's hard to predict how it will go as neither of those currently run on the iPad Pro as far as I know.

  7. First P4K lasted a year but became unreliable after a firmware update. Returned and got a replacement free of charge and its been great. I would say given the abuse I put mine through, it's done better than some of my GH Panasonic cameras I've owned on the score of reliability. I'd say take a chance and put the camera through its paces when you get yours. I put mine through a Wedding 2 weeks after getting it and it worked very well and rarely let me down. There are plenty of people out there relying on P4K or P6K for paid work and I think that speaks for itself.

  10. Here is a new series on EOSHD... It's a podcast. The aim is to put out long 1-2 hour conversations, in the style of Joe Rogen - touching on subjects others dare not, sort of. Oh and some camera nerd talk as well... https://www.eoshd.com/news/the-eoshd-podcast-episode-1-british-filmmaker-jg-harding/ Hope you enjoy it, and thanks to JG for taking part in this episode.

  11. I was not considering a Mac before but I am considering now. Its all about the performance in Resolve for me. I am waiting for the real benchmarks. Wonder how H265 4k clips will perform.

  12. The current M1 only top 16gb ram, I think there there will be M1X with more core and expandable Ram slot for 16inch Mbp/mac pro/imac pro

  13. I've gotten used to the focus peaking on the S1 but I find it not as good as the GH5. Color options seem more limited and it doesn't feel as precise.

  14. That thing could have run and run. It is a shame it was a one off. Maybe we should organise our own!! After the global plague that is.

  15. Yes, this has been sorted - in fact there are a bewildering array of options as to how to name files.....

    New: the EOSHD Podcast

Enjoyed that. How many more of us on here were at that Converge conference ? We should have a 10 year reunion next year. Not that I actually spoke to any one at the first one obviously.

  17. I said a few years ago my “perfect camera” for video would be an XC15 style camera with at least S35 and up to 4k120 10bit. Then they released it. I also have the A7SIII and looking forward to comparing. I predict I’ll keep hold of both. The A7SIII is a triumph.

  19. This is what I have started to tell myself too. It may come down to me owning two cameras, One for still and the other for video or just as back up. That is my hope too. This camera to me will give me a clear path in terms of gear purchase for a while. I am hoping that Sony give it 24mp, 10 bit color, and 4k 60p full frame or slide crop. I will be happy with that.

  21. I think they are all decent. In fact, more than that, they are all exceptional as in capable of delivering exceptional results. But no single camera (yet) at everything and that is the part I struggle with. Some are so close, but... Unless of course the 'perfect' camera does now exist for anyone and probably in a lot of cases, especially non-professional, many are probably being too picky. Some of what is perceived as camera companies 'holding back' is in some ways understandable. Take Canon for instance, - the R5 deliberately has overheating issue in order to protect the C70 which does not have IBIS so it steals less sales of the R5. Sony have presumably kept the A7Siii at 12mp because when the A7iv comes out... But why Nikon haven't gone 10 bit internal and Panny have not gone phase AF are mysteries to me. And then there are all these little niggles such as why can't the Canon's write to two card slots when others can and similar small but fundamental things. The bottom line is I could make any of them work but it's somewhat frustrating that there seems to be 1 thing each fail at for no reason that makes sense to us, the purchasers. Anyway, I have made my Panasonic bed. I'm going to go and lie in it 😬
